Contacts deleting by themselves and iPhone needs a full backup restore after refusing to sync with iTunes. - Pls Help!

I have had my new iPhone 5s since the middle of December 2013 and I really enjoy it, however, I'm finding the iOS a little unstable.
I backup often - whether to iCloud or to my iMac at my office or to my Acer Windows 7 based Notebook at home, and I have had to do a full backup restore of my phone software after it suddenly refused to sync with iTunes. The only option open to me was "Restore iPhone" which also is a nuisance and takes a little while if you have a lot of content on your phone. I've had to do this 3 times now and it's getting on my nerves!
Also, as I type this, my contacts are suddenly removing themselves from my phone book. I discovered this as I was going through my Whatsapp messages when I noticed a few numbers in my recent chats that didn't have names or contact pictures. When I scrolled to the top of the message, I noticed that the "add contact" detail was suddenly available. I immediately checked my phone book and noticed that those contacts are no longer available. A lot of my numbers are suddenly showing up like this within the last hour and I haven't changed any settings at all. I back up to my notebook and iCloud once a week. This problem is a first for me  as well.
I must point out that I never had these issues with my iPhone 3GS which was only becoming cumbersome due to its outdated OS and because of its processing speed.
Will I need to wait for the next IOS Update to solve this problem, or will I have to find an alternative solution?
Any advice you have to offer would be most welcome.

Simplify your question, will you? I have trouble in reading such a long English article.

  • My iPhone refuses to sync with iTunes, please help?

I think I've done everything I've seen online so far. That is to say, I've uninstalled iTunes, downloaded the newest version, switched up USB ports, restarted iPhone and computer... I really don't know what else to do. I'm new to the apple world and loving it aside from this issue. I have Windows Vista, I hope that isn't a problem for the software. I can't upgrade that, unfortunately.
My dad says I need to back my phone up but I can't, of course... so I would really appreciate some tips! It's making me nervous about the backing up thing and anxious what with the dangerous lack of music on my phone!

It's not that I'm nervous /to/ back my phone up, I'm just nervous that if I don't, something bad may happen to it. lol
And iTunes isn't giving me any error code, it's just not responding to the iPhone 4 at all. it doesn't detect it and so I can't sync :/

It could be that the existing wire in your appartment is not clean enough to provision DSL only. When combined with the phone possibly it has a higher line voltage and worked before. Now that the line is to be provisioned without phone service it may be giving them trouble that did not show before they came out and ran the new line test. So a new jack dedecated for your DSL line may require a new wire be run to your appartment. Also the account for internet only used to require direct billing to a credit card or something else. This was a number of years ago. Most accounts are linked to a phone number, and without a voice number it adds to the confusion.
If you are getting the voice and everything turned on as before, then I am at a loss for words.

if you see the option to restore in itunes, click it.  Your phone will give you the option to restore as new, or restore from backup.

The above article walks you through it, and has pictures. As for your contacts, if you had them saved to Outlook (windows contacts?) you can follow this other article for getting them back. I know it says ipod, but it will work the same.

If you have forgotten your Restrictions code, then follow the instructions

simply be restoring the old Restrictions code you have forgotten. This
same warning applies if you need to restore a clean system.
A Complete Guide to Restore or Recover Your iDevice (if You Forget Your Passcode)
If you need to restore your device or ff you cannot remember the passcode, then you will need to restore your device using the computer with which you last synced it. This allows you to reset your passcode and re-sync the data from the device (or restore from a backup). If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present. Refer to Updating and restoring iPhone, iPad and iPod touch software.
Try restoring the iOS device if backing up and erasing all content and settings doesn't resolve the issue. Using iTunes to restore iOS devices is part of standard isolation troubleshooting. Restoring your device will delete all data and content, including songs, videos, contacts, photos, and calendar information, and will restore all settings to their factory condition.
Before restoring your iOS device, Apple recommends that you either sync with iTunes to transfer any purchases you have made, or back up new data (data acquired after your last sync). If you have movie rentals on the device, see iTunes Store movie rental usage rights in the United States before restoring.
Follow these steps to restore your device:
         1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
         2. Connect your device to your computer.
         3. Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
         4. Select the Summary tab.
         5. Select the Restore option.
         6. When prompted to back up your settings before restoring, select the Back Up
option (see in the image below). If you have just backed up the device, it is not
             necessary to create another.
         7. Select the Restore option when iTunes prompts you (as long as you've backed up,
you should not have to worry about restoring your iOS device).
         8. When the restore process has completed, the device restarts and displays the Apple
             logo while starting up:
After a restore, the iOS device displays the "Connect to iTunes" screen. For updating
to iOS 5 or later, follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. For earlier versions of
iOS, keep your device connected until the "Connect to iTunes" screen goes away or
              you see "iPhone is activated."
         9. The final step is to restore your device from a previous backup. If you do not have a
backup to restore, then restore as New.

  • IPhone 5 will not be recognized by iTunes or charge while on but when turned off the iPhone will charge just fine but still won't sync with iTunes what should I do?

Was charging my iphone 5 for about an hour or so after charging unplugged and went to playing games phone was at 5% so I grabbed my cable and plugged it into the wall nothing happened tried three different chords and blocks and sockets afterwards I plugged my phone into the computer and it wouldn't charge or sync with iTunes it acted as if it wasn't even plugged in so I shut the phone off and though I'd give It a break and try again later. As I got ready to go to bed I though I'd try to plug it back in and see if anything happened nothing did so I just left it I went to mess with it this morning and come to find out it was at 100% I continued to mess with it and i came to the conclusion that it only charges when turned off. I can't get the phone to reset and would love to restore with iTunes if it would sync with iTunes I don't know what I need to do but really need my problem resolved since its a hassle to have to turn off my iphone in order to get it to charge

Is that a new iPhone? Bring it in to Apple for a replacement.
    But do this first:
hold the Home Button and the Power Button at the same time, keep holding, ignore everything on the screen, keep holding until you see the white Apple logo appear, then let go and let it start up.
It should charge both when on and off, unless you connect throug a hub and there are current eaters also on the hub: connect directly to the usb port.

  • IPhone won't sync with iTunes.  Help?

iPhone won't sync with iTunes. It just says, "waiting for sync to start." But no matter how long I leave it like that, it never syncs.  Wirelessly or via USB.  I have restarted both my computer and my phone.  I have deleted and reinstalled iTunes. I have installed the latest version of iTunes and the software on my phone is up to date.  Nothing seems to work.
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

I found this on another thread --
Keep your iphone connected. Quit iTunes. Reopen iTunes. Sync begins automatically. It worked for me and several others who had already followed the advice.
    So easy.

My ipad is locked and I have forgotton my passcode. I have never synced to itunes. Do I lose all purchases and photos? Many thanks

Removing Disabled erases the contents of the iPad. You can redownload your apps, but the pics will be gone. If you have important files on your iPad, you should always backup frequently.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.

  • How do I get it so that when I delete a song from my phone it doesn't come back when I sync with iTunes?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to deselect a song from my iTunes account automatically when I delete the song from my phone so that I don't have to go through my iTunes account and deselect everything I had deleted before I sync? I'm really big on putting everything I have from several different artists onto my phone and just deleting the songs I don't like as I hear them (very rairly do I actually remember what the song was called let along who the artist was) and often don't have the time/inclnation to go through each song on both my phone and iTunes account to find which ones sould not be checked (seriously who has the time to do this, and even if you do wouldn't you rather spend it doing something else).
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you from the girl who just inadvertently synced back over 2,000 songs to her phone.

    BC
My understanding is that music syncing is a one way process from computer iTunes to your iPhone.  I think what you are asking is to have IOS synching back to an OSX or PC system.  The software doesn't work that way.
You either have to uncheck the songs to be synced or create a separate playlist for "BC Canada iPhone" and only sync that playlist.
As well any purchases you made on your iPhone need to be transferred to your iTunes so they can come back to your phone when you re-sync.
Hope this helps, even though it's not the answer you might have wanted.
    Cheers

  • My iPhone 4s will not sync with iTunes. Help?

I'm trying to sync my iPhone 4s with iTunes but keep being told that I have to install a later version of iTunes. I've done this several times installing 10.6.3 through www.itunes.com as well as through iTunes - Check for Updates but have had no luck. What do I do?

I believe so for your mac, or it may have to be a disk, but click on the apple logo, if it says your up to date then it will be a disk you have to order by online or call apple and order it. Also itunes  you just need to go to apple.com/itunes after you have upgraded your mac and download the 10.7 version of itunes.

  • My iPod Touch (5th gen) is deleting a GREAT amount of music upon syncing with iTunes. HELP

It all started on Saturday (February 22), as per usual, I connected my Ipod touch to my pc and I have it connected so that it syncs automatically. I was going to do my daily workout and I had a song playing on repeat. It could be possible that I started playing the song while it was syncing, but I'm not too sure. When the song had repeated two or three times, my iPod stopped playing music. When I looked at my iPod, it had the "play" symbol, but the song was not playing at all. I looked at my iTunes and it showed that my song was missing even though it was clearly playing moments ago. This has happened to me a couple of times before and all I did to fix it back when it had happened was just to disconnect and reconnect my iPod.  Then the "!" marks would disappear, but that didn't happen this time around. I should also mention that I have the 64gb iPod Touch with only 6gb free (at the time when the iPod failed) and I had around 6,000 songs. Maybe 5,000 (I don't remember). So when I reconnected my iPod, It showed that there was around 20gb free and there was around 4,000 songs in my iPod (so it seemed that I lost around 2,000 songs). At this point I started to panic and I did not know what to do. When I tried to play my music on my iPod, it just kept skipping songs until it found one that it can play. But when I skipped more songs and tried to go back to the song that was able to find to play, that song was just skipped. I should also mention that I DO NOT keep a backup of any of my music. I then decided to use a program that I have that can export my music from my ipod to my pc. When it finished exporting, I noticed that It only saved around 3,000 songs (so I lost half of my music). Then I looked at my iTunes, it said that there was 4.000 songs in my iPod. I looked through the music that my iTunes detected on my iPod and found songs there that were not shown to be exported, but they were unplayable. When I looked through my ipod for those songs, they were not there. I disconnected my iPod, reconnected it, but the songs were still missing. I then decided to sync it (up until this point, I had Auto-sync disabled) and the 20gb of free space turned into 50gb of free space. I had no clue what was going on and was afraid that I had to restore it. I looked for solutions online and could not find anything. I restarted my iPod in hopes that something would happen, but all that happened was the 50gb of free space turned back to 20gb of free space. Nothing was working so I had no choice but to restore it.
Also, I had a manga app and the chapters I had downloaded there were also deleted (meaning that music was not the only thing that was deleted). And in case you were wondering, both my iTunes and iPod were up-to-date at the time.
It is now Thursday (February 27, midnight, with around 4,000 songs) and I was adding some lyrics to a specific song. When I tried to play this song on itunes, it gave me the "!" mark. Then I noticed that my iTunes was syncing with my iPod, but it was stuck at "Step 4" of synchronization. Growing impatient, I decided to take my chances and disconnected my iPod. I searched my iPod for the song that was missing and when I found it, I was able to play it with no problems. I restarted my iPod and reconnected it again and it started syncing (even though I have auto-sync disabled) and was stuck at "Step 4" again. I disconnected it, restarted my iPod again, and searched for some answers online. I then found out that there was an update for iTunes (11.1.5). When it was finished, I reconnected my iPod and the synchronization problem was fixed, but then it showed me that my iPod had 51.47gb of free space and more than half of my music was gone. My iTunes CURRENTLY shows that I have 2,544 songs in my iPod, but when I shuffled all my songs in my iPod,  it showed that I had only 327 songs. I learned my lesson from last Saturday and now have all my songs saved so getting back my music (right now) is no problem. However, I'll probably have to restore my iPod just to be safe.
Any ideas of what might be causing this? I do not want to keep repeating this process. I'm a big music person and losing thousands upon thousands of songs pains me greatly. I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I like to listen to my iPod when I sleep; so basically my iPod is playing for 6-8 hours every day (while charging). I've been doing this for 4+ years and it never really caused me any problems. Also, I keep my music very organized with labels and tags in almost every song along with a lot of playlists. Before this whole incident happened, I had over 200 playlists. I don't know if that might have.. "overloaded" my iPod? but yeah. Thank you for your time. Please Reply.

I would either say that the iOS is correpted due to a software glitch or y have have a hardware problem like bad memory locations that are corrupting the iOS.
    - Restore from backup via iTunes. This will install a fresh copy of the iOS. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.   This will elimate corruptin in the backup causing the problem.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • IPhone 3GS is hanging each time I try to sync with iTunes

We're running the latest version of iTunes and the iPhone software is up to date.
I have an iMac and my son wanted his own "library" of music, so under his user name, we've loaded new music into iTunes.  Plugged his phone in to sync to the new music and can't get past "Transferring Purchases from ...... phone" or if we do get past it, we can only get to Step 2 and it hangs there.
So, it's really hanging in two different places.
I've tried a hard restart on my Mac and that did nothing.
I've tried a force quit on iTunes numerous times.
    Nothing appears to work.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Well reading some other discussions i have found to try deauthirizing and reauthorizing, that didn't work. I guess i could remove iTunes and reinstall, but i hate to do that. Maybe I should take all the music off and sync and then try putting  it back on? Worked before i put music on there, but then there wasn't much to sync at that time. Anyone know of other possible causes that would make iTunes stop working?

  • Iphone 5 sync with itunes problems HELP!

This is the first ever Apple product I have owned so I am use to just dragging songs over to my blackberry file and it would send them to my phone straight away nice and easy. I have the latest itunes and iphone5 software.
I am finding it difficult to understand and Im guessing I will need a step by step guide to the problems because I havent got a clue how to do the following:
When I connect my iphone5 to my laptop and open up itunes, it auto syncs all my music to my iphone unless I click the stop button, I dont want this because there's only certain songs I want on my iphone, How do I stop it auto syncing (step by step guide would be helpful).
Also now on my iphone I click on songs every song is in a grey colour and cannot be played because I deleted all music so I could sync only certain songs, how do I get rid of that?
One more question. All my music files are on my itunes, but how do I set it up so I can create a playlist or manually select songs to sync to my iphone (again step by step clicking guide would be perfect because I am not use to any of this at all). Thanks
Its probably so easy but because Ive never done it before my heads battered and all over the place with it.

You have to configure the sync settings by accessing the summary page when you connect your iphone to your computer using iTunes on your computer. If you haven't installed itunes go to apple.com/itunes to DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL iTunes.
