Contacts don't show up

Hey,
Since a few days (maybe since I installed the iChat update?) my contacts won't show up in my list when they are online! And I also appear offline in their lists!
So basicly we can't use iChat.
What could be wrong?

First try this log on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443.
Log back in again.

after update to 5.0.1 my contacts' names don't show up in text or phone call views so when i get a text it just looks like a number i don't have saved. Any ideas? FYI I updated via wifi for the first time

Contacts from gmail don't show up on iCloud contacts or mail accounts or contacts on ipad. How do you set this up to make these sync?
Any ideas greatly appreciated.

How do you have your gmail account set up? If you want your contacts synced you have to set it up as an Exchange account. Google for the proper instructions.

My contacts don't show up when people call

I reset the settings on my iPhone 4s and now my contact names don't show up when people call. It only shows the number, but they are still listed in the contact list. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Which phone do you have ?
This happens when there are multiple entries with the same phone no.
Also if the same contacts are stored on SIM and in Phone memory also and you have selected to show contacts from both these destinations..
In contacts-->Options-->settings.. contacts to display.. select preferably the Phone memory only.. Also save the contacts to Phone memory to get better functionality of the phone book.. There are many limitations of storing contacts on SIM.. Periodically take back-up on PC to avoid unforeseen problems with your device..

E72-1 Some Phone book Contacts don't show up while...

Hello users,
So i came along with a very odd kind of error while using my E72-1 .Since I am a new user of this phone, do tell me if am wrong somewhere.
So the problem is like when i try to forward some message to multiple recipients i type the first few letters of their name in the phone book search box. SO i found out that there are some contacts that don't show up in the list if u don't add their name at the first place in the recipients list. To add them as recipient i have to go back to the message and again select add recipient and then type their name to search. And this time the contact can be seen. this going back and forth for adding contacts is annoying. Instead i wanted to select the recipients in one go by checking the boxes beside the contacts in the list.
Please help me with this bug..and if i'am missing out on something do point me out.

Contacts don't show up in the Cloud

I can't save my contacts in the cloud, i have the cloud turned on and when i set up a reminder on my iphone 5 it shows up in the cloud but contacts do not. They only show up if i manually add new ones to the phone. I had a blackberry prior to the iphone, i saved the contacts to my computer as a "windows contact" i don't use outlook or anything else. I then added them to iphone. I wanted to update, edit and delete certain contacts and it would be easier do it from a computer. Oddly enough the contacts I saved on my computer as indivual files are being updated as i change them on the phone fyi.
I'm getting increasing annoyed by not having them in the cloud so I could really use some direction here please.

CONTACTS DON'T SHOW WHEN THEY CALL

Okk.,. My contacts are there. But when a person calls there name does not show up there number just show. Then once im done with the call there name shows in the call log. please Helpp!

There could be any one of three solutions... Try these:
1. Make sure you set your own country code at Phone dialer Screen > Options > Smart dialing.
Set your Country Code in this format: "+xx" where xx = your country code. Some countries have two or three digit Country Codes. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
* In the US, set this Country Code as "+1", and place your local area code in the proper box (this normally the default setting in a new BB).
2. At the same location, change the National Number Length to the number of digits for your country (since some countries will have less than 10 as set as the default in the BB). Find out the total digits, minus the country code. Do not place the '+' in your contact's entry.
* For example, some countries have a total number to 8 (plus 3 for country code). You would enter "8".
3. You may have "Content Protection" set on your Address Book.
Look at Options > Security > General Settings. Scroll down to Content Protection > Include Address Book = NO.
*If you don't see this here, your device operating system handles this differently. Look at Options > Security > Encryption.

HotSync works for backup, but addresses/contacts don't show on Desktop Palm

Hey Folks,
I have recently moved over to the Mac platform (love it, btw) from a PC (Windows XP). I have spent a while scouring over the forum notes and have not found an answer to my problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Here it is: I have a Tungsten E, and use Docs to Go as the only 3rd party app. I installed the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 for Mac. I performed a Hotsync sucessfully, as well as, had the Docs to Go install an expense XLS and sync that perfectly. The problem is when I go to view the contacts and addresses that have been backed up to the Mac from the Palm Tungsten - they are not there. I have checked the Users. I have changed the users. I have created a new user, and deleted the old - then I re-sync-d the palm again and had the Desktop software re-create my username. When I pull up a Finder window and I see the information that is backed up. I cannot get the Desktop software to "see" my contact/address information. All settings and paths are set for the default. I am getting really frustrated at this point, as this is the only reason that I have to mess the PC world anymore. Is there something that I am just being stupid about? Shouldn't I just be able to move the data in the Palm from one desktop to another ?

As a long-time Palm and PC user who recently switched to Mac, I can relate to your frustration. I'm sorry to tell you that many of the capabilities we took for granted on the PC desktop are broken or changed on the Mac. A partial list:
Records don't sync (as you describe). I found that if I open an individual address record that has, for example, a phone number in the email field, the opened data entry box has the correct information in the correct field.
There is no password security on the desktop. On the handheld, you can choose to show, mask, or hide records that are marked private, and you can assign and require a password to unhide those records. There is no password capability on the desktop. You can "hide" private records, but it's like a kid covering his eyes with his hands and thinking no one sees him.
The Help feature doesn't work. You get a glimpse of a help page but then it disappears and you're left with a page that says "Internet connection required."
And, my favorite: The Note that is part of a Contacts record has been disassociated. Those Notes are now stored as Memos. On the desktop you can find the Note by clicking on the paperclip icon. But if you create the Address record and a Note on the desktop, they won't retain their relationship on the handheld. I.e., you can't get to the Note from the Contact record on the handheld. You can do a linear search through the Memos to find it.
There are many more such annoyances. I imagine that when faced with all the possibilities that Unix/Leopard permitted, it was hard for the designers and developers not to take advantage of them. I appreciate that there are more possibilities with the new desktop environment, but they should have been left to another release, with an upgrade path spelled out. As it is, the Palm desktop on the Mac is useless. I'm now trying to figure out if I can get my Palm handheld contacts, including Notes, into the Apple Address Book.
If anyone has solutions that I've missed, I'd be happy to retract my expression of disappointment. And, G-Manmac, I wish you the best of luck.

TS4036 I have backed up my phone to icloud, photos, music, contacts, but now most of my contacts don't show up on my actual phone, and all I have on the text is a phone number instead of the person's name. What happened?

I am new to the icloud, and I have a question. I have backed my phone up to icloud, with photos, music, contacts, etc. but now most of my contacts have disappeared on my actual phone, and when someone sends me a text, just a phone number shows up instead of their names. What happened? How do I get all of my contacts back on my phone?

Contacts don't show after firmware update (V05.23)...

After a firmware update I can't restore my contacts.
If I tried to enter them manually, I have the message "Contact saved to phone memory" but my contact list stayed empty.
Apparently they are really saved somewhere in the phone, since I can see them if I synchronize my phone with my PC. Bt there is no way to access them from the phone.
Anyone had a similar issue before ?

Very same problem with my 6730c. Updated firmware from Menu > Settings > SW Update. Now I fully cannot access my contact book (all contacts are stored to SIM card). These can be used from any other phone. When a person from contact book calls me it shows name. I can only call people who called me and so saved to Logs. Please update firmware as soon as possible, I wish to use my phone

PLEASE HELP!!! Contacts don't show up!

So after updating today, there are no contacts on my contact list. However my recent conversations are still there, and i am still a part of the groups im in. I have asked my contacts if I still show up in their contact list, and i do. But they dont show up in mine. I get the option to add them to my contacts, and when i click that nothing happens, it just dissapears. Then if i click off that specific chat and go back into the options reappears. Ive tried restarting Skype multiple times, and have logged in and out multiple times.
Please help me ASAP!

N97 contacts don't show up

Okay, to cut a long story short... I tried to install an app on my phone and the installation failed. After that I started to get a "system error" message every few minutes on my phone. I decided to do a soft reset on the phone. This sorted out the error message..... BUT all my contacts seemed to have been deleted from the phone book! and all of my photos are no longer in the default photo album on the phone, but seem to be present in the downloaded "photo browser" from nokia!
the strangest thing is this though... when one of my friends calls me... their contact details (i.e their name) shows up on my phone! but they are not there in the phone book! what's going on?
i thought a soft reset just deleted user settings, not the contents of the mem card.
anyway, can someone figure out how to restore my contacts to my phone book. they have GOT to be there somewhere, because they show up when someone calls me!

Just upgraded to 10.8.5 and contacts don't show up.

I just upgraded to OS 10.8.5 everything looks good except my contacts are blank. Help!

Note: These instructions are for OS X 10.8 or later. In OS X 10.7, the procedure is the same, but the application is named "Address Book" instead of "Contacts."
Step 1
Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBookSourceSync
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash.
Log out, log back in, and test. If there's no change, go to the next step.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Step 2
A. If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contacts in the iCloud preference pane. Press return to confirm, or click Keep on Mac in the dialog that opens.
B. From the list of groups on the left side of the Contacts window, select All On My Mac. If that group doesn't exist or is empty, skip this step. Otherwise, from the menu bar, select
File ▹ Export ▹ Export vCard
Save the exported contacts to the Desktop.
C. Quit Contacts. Triple-click the text on the line below on this page to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return.
A Finder window will open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
D. Launch Contacts. Your contacts will be gone. If you took Step 2, then double-click the file you created in that step and confirm that you want to import from it. Your contacts will reappear.
E. Re-enable Contacts in the iCloud preference pane, if you disabled it. Test. If the issue is resolved, delete the AddressBook folder and the vCard file on the Desktop and close the open folder window.
Otherwise, quit Contacts again and put the AddressBook folder back where it was, overwriting the newer one that will have been created in its place. Post your results.

TS3899 yahoo contacts don't show up

I have set up yahoo mail on my iphone 5c and I can get/receive emails but no contacts have synced over. I do have the contacts button turned on. Any ideas?

Open your Address Book.... Click the Menu key > Filters. If any filters are checked, UNcheck them and save.
Now, do your contacts appear?

Email contacts don't show up when composing email

Hi,
I recently got an iPad2 and added a couple of email accounts including gmail and yahoo mail. However, i noticed a key difference when composing email from an iPad rather than on an Iphone.
On my iPhone4 when I compose an email and in the 'To:' address field I start typing the name of my contact iphone is able to search from my contact list from my gmail account, however this does not happen on the Ipad.
Any idea how to fix this?
I have set-up my email accounts in the same way as I did on my phone.

It also work on the iPad, so try to turn off/on your iPad or a reset, keep the On/off button and the Home button pressed at the same time till you see the Apple logo in your screen.
