Contacts fail to sync

The iPhone help manual states: If you’ve set up iTunes to sync contacts automatically, iTunes keeps your contacts up-to-date—whether you make changes on your computer or on iPhone. This is not working. I have a contact (in sync) in both my PC (Vista) and iPhone. I then change the phone number of the contact on my iPhone and go to iTunes to sync, but the contact info on the PC remains the old phone number. It doesn't sync. What am I doing wrong? When they are not the same, which one is considered 'master?'

The master is the one most recently updated. What you are seeing is not normal behavior. If you change contact info on one side it should sync to the other. The usual cause of contacts not syncing is bad data in the PC contact list, and not necessarily the contact that isn't syncing correctly.

  • Contacts Edited on MacBook Fail to sync to iPod

I edited a contact on my MacBook, synced my iPod via the cable, and the contact remained unchanged on my iPod.
I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to fix this problem.

The following Apple article did fix my Mac Address Book not syncing to my iPod Contacts:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481
The article also suggests first resetting SyncServices, but that did NOT work for me.
But then  doing the next 28 steps suggested in the article (after resetting sync services) did solve my problem of changes in my Mac Address Book failing to sync to my iPod. Because I had some 30 Address Book Groups and thousands of contacts, this was a tedious process, but it did work.
For some reason, this article failed to display when I searched for Apple.com for Address Book sync issues. But thankfully I found the link  in someone's discussion  on MacRumors.com. So I thought I'd post it here in case it might help others also.

  • Failed to sync up contacts to iphone5s

I have my contacts list on both itunes and icloud.
When I sync up the iphone with itunes I can see all my contacts when I eject the iphone all contacts are gone.
I see my contacts in icloud but I have failed to sync them up through the iphone's settings.
Even a new contact list I created on the iphone5s disappeared. At the moment the only contact I have is my mobile number.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Login to http://www.icloud.com and click on the contacts application.
If your contacts are there, all you have to do is go to settings > icloud on your ios device and turn contacts to "on". Make sure you always "Merge".

It may be a bit late for your needs, but there's a sync product for Outlook (an add-in) that will sync public and private folders/calendars.  Once you have your items in a mailbox folder, the regular ios sync will bring it to your device.  It's called Add2Outlook, it's made by DidItBetter.com Software.
It syncs private and public, mailboxes and folders in any direction.  One-way, two-way, read-only or writable.  It also works with Office 365 and hosted exchange providers, if that's your situation.  It works for calendars, contacts, tasks, email, whatever.  It can even sync to PST or between two different Exchange servers.
It installs on your workstation, not on the Exchange server.
Check it out here: Outlook Contact and Calendar Sync for Office 365

  • Errors when saving contacts locally and syncing them between MacBook and iCloud

Last night I detected that the synchronisation of contacts between my MacBookPro (Yosemite, 13" Retina, late 2013) and iCloud is no longer working. Sync between iCloud and iOS devices (with iOS 8.1) works fine.
The problem effects the exchange of information from MBP to iCloud as well as the other way around. However, the issues are slightly different.
No matter what changes (changing existing contacts, creating new ones or creating/changing groups) I do directly in iCloud (which I usually don't do – I was just testing), none of them get synced to my MBP (though they do sync to all iOS devices).
If I do work on my MBP the situation is a bit different:
If I change any existing contact, those changes are not synced.
If I create a new contact in the "all contacts" group, it syncs to iCloud. If I make changes to that newly created contact, they are again not synced.
If I create a new contact in any other group, the contact does not sync.
If I create a new group, that group is displayed in iCloud as "new group", i.e. the name I gave it is lost on the way... If I add contacts to this group (again on the MPB), they do not sync.
If I create a new group using the option "create group from selected contacts" those contacts are synced to iCloud but the name of the group is again only "new group". Contacts added later to that group also don't sync.
Worst of all, everything that does not sync to iCloud, is lost once I close the Contacts app, meaning this information is not even stored on my MPB. OS X does not display any error messages. However, looking into the console, I found this message repeatedly whenever I was making changes to contacts etc (not only upon closing the app):

I have tried the troubleshooting listed here: Get help using iCloud Contacts (i.e. disabled and reenabled the sycn through iCloud in Preferences > iCloud and checked the login information etc)
And I also do not exceed any of the limits for contacts listed here: iCloud: Limits for Contacts, Calendars, Reminders, and Bookmarks
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

I don't know if this is applicable for you, but this solved it for me.
My initial situation was the following, Ipad, Iphone and iMac where syncing well. But not my Macbook Pro. So I did this Get help using iCloud Contacts - Apple Support and this Sync Services: Advanced troubleshooting for contact and calendar syncing - Apple Support . As result all my contacts, even the view I had where gone on my macbook. I tried rebooting and restartting but nothing helped.
Then I did the following. I backuped all the cards from contacts on my imac (by moving them into a folder) and backuped them by export as archive.
Afterwards I disconnected from icloud on my imac, then reconected and deleted all contacts from the addressbook. I double checked if they where gone on icloud.com too. Afterwards I just moved them back from the folder to the address book. again double checked on icloud.com and the my macbook started syncing properly.
Which of the things I finally solved it, I don't know for sure. But I assume it was the one with deleting and restoring everything on another machine.

  • Centro Calendar and Contacts do not sync

I have had a problem syncing my contacts an calendar entries for several weeks. I use a Palm Centro.  I have tested with both Desktop and Outlook 2003.  Both have the same symptoms.  I am intrigued by other users problems that have been resolved by removing an Exchange account in Versamail.  While I do not have an Exchange account that I can determine and only have one account in versamail, I'd like to eliminate any possible Versamail conflict.  Is it possible to totally disable or delete versamail to test for a versamail conflict?   I assume I can always reset up Versamail.
More info:  I have the same problem with both Palm Desktop and Outlook 2003.  Contacts and Calender entries do not sync.  Tasks and memos sync just fine.  After scanning the many postings on this site many centro users have the same problem.  I received a replacement Centro in December and calendar and contacts have not sync'd since then.  It sounds like I have a different version of hotsync on the new centro that does not work the same.  Is that possible?  I have Hotsync 5.4.0 on my Centro and Hotsync 7.0.2 on my desktop running XP professional.
During hotsync and in the log file there is no evidence that hotsync is attempting to sync calendar and contacts.  I receive no errors in the log file.  Calendar and contacts are both checked on the desktop version of hotsync with the option to synchronize the files.  On the Centro under conduit setup calendar and contacts are both checked.

  • Sync server failed to sync the iphone

    Good Day!
Everytime I try and sync my contacts I get this error message "Itunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone".
What do I need to do?

  • Sync failure because itunes sync server failed to sync the iPhone

I have an iPhone sync problem that started when I updated to iTunes 7.4.2. One person's solution of removing the "MobileSync" folder did not work for me. (Note that my MobileSync Folder is in my Library/Application Support Folder.) So, I am still searching for the fix. Here is the exact error message that I have been getting for about a month now, "iTunes could not sync contacts to the iPhone "My iPhone" because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone." I already tried re-installing iTunes and restarting the iPhone, both to no avail. PLEASE HELP!

I am running Mac OS 10.4.10 and with it, now, the Syncing is performed with the .Mac System Preference, not with iSync.
    For a .Mac account only.
FYI, If you press the "Advanced" Button within the .Mac System Preference, there is a "Reset Sync Data..." Button available that basically does something similar.
This is not similar and is for a .Mac account only - this feature provides for resetting synced data on your computer from the .Mac servers or resetting synced data on the .Mac servers from your Mac.
iSync is the conduit for syncing cell phones other than the iPhone or another device such as a Palm Pilot and using Reset Sync History clears the sync history for such devices including the iPhone.

  • Itunes could not sync calenders to the iphone because the sync server failed to sync the iphone. Why not??

This is the message I get when trying to sync.
"itunes could not sync calenders to the iphone because the sync server failed to sync with the iphone."
    WHY NOT?

I'm having exactly the same probs with iphone and ipad, synching to Outlook.
Both used to work fine, and now getting the same message, with conflicts in Contacts and Calendar - it's sending me round the bend.
Did you ever get an answer from anybody - don't seem to be able to find one, even though clearly we're not alone with the problem!?

  • ITunes could not sync calendars to ---'s iPhone because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone

iTunes could not sync calendars to ---'s iPhone because the sync server failed to sync the iPhone. How can this be resolved? I can figure out if the sync server failed to sync then iTunes would not sync the calendars.  Everything syncs on my iPad mini 3 wifi and my iphone syncs my contacts but not the calendars. So what gives?

    Brenden,
thanks for the reply, but the troubleshooting tips seemed to concentrate on 'Lion"," Snow Leopard" and the like, I haven't a clue what any of that is. I am using Windows 7 Pro with Service Pack 1 on my desktop and my iPhone is using iOS 8.1.2, as is my iPad mini.  As I said on my previous post, syncing on my iPad mini works fine, It is just the iPhone that fails to sync the calendars. Hopefully a solution can be found as it is difficult to keep things synced on my iPad  and then have to add everything manually onto my iPhone.
