Contacts  - Formatting Phone Numbers

Can I turn off the automatic "formatting" of phone numbers in Contacts?
Many of my contacts are in other countries and I would like to use the format
that is common to each country. Easier to remember, etc!

Try adding a + in front of the country code.

That is correct is doesn't. Standardized formatting of phone numbers in the iOS app is more important because it supports contact from a variety of locations (gmail, hotmail, etc.). iCloud doesn't (not directly).

  • How can I print all my contacts including phone numbers from iCloud

I used to be able to print all of my contacts including phone numbers etc from iCloud.  Since all the upgrades I can not do this.  I used to be able to change the display by clicking on a ribbon at the top then clicking the gear to have it print.  No ribbon any more and no way to change the display.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Thanks again Ferd. I looked up equivalent of command key on Dell keybrd. It is Windows insignia, however that didn't work. I selected all with the pop up menu by right clicking, which accomplished the same thing, however when I tried to print, it would only print out a couple of names per page and no add'l info. I stopped the printer and tried manually highlighting and selecting all with the same printing result. I finally gave in and called Apple support. After explaining my problem, while I was on hold, I thought I would try the process using Google browser instead of I.E. Guess what, IT WORKED!! All that hassle because of Internet Explorer.  I now can print (or print to .pdf file to save) any time. I do appreciate your input that would have worked with the interpretation of the command key had I not used IE. live and learn. :-)

  • TS3398 I have lost my contacts that were entered into my iphone in addition to those that are synced from my exchange account. Iphone is only showing email addresses, no contacts with phone numbers.

Two days ago my phone locked up and when I could access again, my contact list was only a few names and email addresses.  ALL phone numbers wiped from the phone.  I have been using google sync for three years to sync contact and calendar to gmail and then sync gmail to iphone, and it has been seemless.  I would think this was the problem, however the contacts and phone numbers that were added directly the phone are no longer on the phone either....which point to a phone problem.
I went home, to update but ended up having to "restore" from backup, which I did.  The contacts were visible for less than 24 hours, but then disappeared again the next day.  I have tried forums for google sync as that would solve a large amount of the contacts, but I still can't seem to find a solution for the other contacts added directly to the phone.
are there any new glitches/issues with the iOS 6 that cause this problem?
    phone is 3GS.
    thanks.

Do the numbers still exist in your google contacts?
Google recently terminated support for new configurations of gmail using Exchange Active Sync for unpaid accounts. In theory, existing configurations will continue to work, but there have been some problem reports.
I've seen several mentions of the problem you describe in the last few days and so far, they've gone unresolved as far as I can tell. The root cause may be in google's termination of AES support.
Facebook contact sync may also be a suspect.

  • How does one format "phone numbers" using "Numbers"?

Want all phone numbers to format as (555) 555 5555
    How is this done?

    Hi Thomas,
The old Numbers will be on your computer unless you deleted it. Look in a folder called iWork '09 inside your Applications folder. Launch Numbers 2 (Numbers '09) and do what you used to do to create a Custom Cell Format. For example, you might want a nine-digit phone number to appear as (123) 456 789.
Save that document. To protect it from Numbers 3.0, make a copy of that document with a different name. Ensure that both your original Phone Number documents are closed (to protect them from that bully Numbers 3.0). Then Open the copy in Numbers 3.0. The custom format will be listed in Format Inspector > Cell > Data Format
Type a nine-digit number into any cell and format the cell with Format Inspector > Cell > Data Format > Phone Numbers.
Note: copying a cell with Custom Format in Numbers 2 and then pasting into Numbers 3 does not work. The pasted cell ends up as Text, and the Custom Format is not added to the Data Format list.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Are phone contacts with phone numbers automatically backed up

Are phone contacts including phone numbers automatically backed up in icloud?

Yes, but restoring them from a backup can be difficult and isn't officially supported by Apple.  To make sure you have them backed up, use an app like My Contacts Backup on your phone to back them up as a vCard attachment to an email.  Send the email to yourself an save the attachment.  If you ever need to restore them you can email the attachment back to your phone and tap the attachment to restore them to your phone.

Hopefully you backed up that info on your Mac or PC. Do a restore and they should all come back. If you have an iCloud account you can recover them from there as well.

  • Format phone numbers

I upgraded my 3G to a 4S. When all my contacts were imported into my new phone, I noticed that the phone numbers were not formatted properly, they looked like one big number, eg. "1231234567".  Is there a way to format all of my numbers properly (eg. 1 (123) 123-4567) without having to type them in again? Is this a bug?

You can try regular expressions if you have Oracle 10
    SQL> l
      1   with t as (
2     select 1234567890 as pnum from dual)
      3  select pnum,
      4     regexp_replace(pnum, '^\(?([[:digit:]]{3})\)?[- .]?([[:digit:]]{3})[- .]?([[:digit:]]{4})$', '(\1) \2-\3') "w digit",
      5     regexp_replace(pnum, '^\(?(\d{3})\)?[- .]?(\d{3})[- .]?(\d{4})$', '(\1) \2-\3') "with \d"
      6* from t
    10.2.0.2
    SQL> /
          PNUM
    w digit
    with \d
    1234567890
    (123) 456-7890
    (123) 456-7890
    1 row selected.

  • Does not format phone numbers

The phone numbers look fine with my Outlook. After syncing contacts using Itunes 12, the phone number format changed (without syncing the spaces and dashes). Anyone has clues to this? It works fine before I updated my Itunes.

I think you will have to build a custom format. In the prefs, click the disclosure triangle button, pick a starting point, and add all the formats you want.
I have a couple of British phone numbers in my book, rest US, and any item I pick does not affect them as they have +44. So...
You need to make a custom list of formats based on the country code and number of digits. I think your list might be long. Ex:
    (+32) ### ### ###
    (+32) #### ### ###
    (+44) ##### ### ###
    (+1) ### ###-####

  • VCF contacts dropping phone numbers

    N95 8G
    PC Suite 7
I've had no luck importing .CSV files into the contacts so have resorted to .vCF files.
I've got all the .vCF files in a folder on the desktop and when I open sample ones all the info is there.
When I import into the contact manager they all go in and virtually all the informaiton is there except for phone contact numbers - office, home, mobile - all gone.
The numbers are definitely there in the original .vCF files - this appears to be an odd case of the contact manager failing to read/import any .vCF phone numbers.
    Any thoughts ?
Is there an option that I'm not checking ?

Anybody any ideas on how to get some contacts into the N95 8G ?
Contacts are currently stored in a Yahoo address book - my export options are .csv and .vcf.
Despite the promises, the contact manager doesn't like the .csv format and drops the phone information off .vcf.
    Any thoughts ?

  • Limit contacts to phone numbers only

Is there a way to limit the contacts list to phone numbers only instead of having it list people by phone and all of the email addresses that aren't associated with email addresses?

Try adding a + in front of the country code.

  • Retrieving contacts and phone numbers

The screen on my phone is broken so I can't access any of the information on my phone. I need the phone numbers for work and its very important that I can get them back. The lady at the phone store wasn't able to retrieve the numbers, but told me to get on here and it would work if I hook a cord up to the phone. I never updated my account or had an email account associated with my phone and updates on this site. How can I get the numbers back?

    Hello E_J,
    Welcome to the community,
If you had earlier copied the contacts to Sim card then can get as much contact you had saved from Sim card,
You are saying that you can't access it cause of broken screen but if you can Turn On the device then I think you will
be able to get your contacts by mean of Blackberry desktop software but of course you need a usb cord.
You can download the latest desktop software for windows from here how to download latest desktop software for windows
And for mac computer hereInstalling the latest desktop software for Mac computer
So with the help of desktop software you can get your contacts back.
    Good Luck.

  • Formatting Phone Numbers

I'm using Numbers for a basic database and need to add phone numbers in a column.  Is there a way I can just type in the numbers and format the column to either add brackets () around the area code or at least hyphens or spaces where they should be.  eg. (123) 456-7890 or 123-456-7890.  I tried using "Create Custom Cell Format" but that doesn't seem to work for this.

you can create a custom formatter by selecting the cell(s) then opening the Cell Inspector and selecting "Custom" from the "cell Format" menu.
This allows you to create a new, named formatter (I suggest Phone Number):
    I hope this helps

  • My contact's phone numbers have all gone, but their email addresses are still in my contact list. How do I get all those phone numbers back?

I am needing help with my iphone contacts..
When I look into my contacts, everyone's email addresses are there, but all the phone numbers I had are completely gone. Does anyone know how this could have happened, and what I do to get them back?

There's a list of things to check here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3792.

  • If I delete phone numbers and contacts from my phone, and I go synch up and back up my phone to computer, will I get the contacts and phone numbers put back on my phone again

If I delet contact/phone numbers from my iPhone and then go to back up my iPhone in iTunes, will it put them back in my phone>  if so, how do I get rid of those contacs.number out of the stored info on the computer?
    Kris

it depends on whether or not the contacts are in a contacts program on your computer and where they are on your phone. if they're on your phone in icloud, then no. if they're on your phone from an email account, then no. if they're on your phone in a group called 'from my pc' or 'outlook' or something like that, then yes, by default, they'll most likely come back to your phone from your computer
