Contacts google broken

Contacts unable to sync with Google account. Mail and ical work. Known problem, Apple support was unable to resolve it. Rumor is that it has something to do with a very recent change at Google.

Google have completely changed how their Contacts system works, it is now a Dav system rather than a local sync.
Here are Googles directions.
Use CardDAV to sync your Google Contacts with your Mac. Note: We support CardDAV on Mac OS X 10.7 and above.
On your Mac, go to Applications > Contacts.
In the Contacts application, go to Contacts > Preferences > Accounts > +
In the window that pops up, enter the following:
Account type: CardDAV
Username: <Your username at your domain, for example: [email protected]>
Password: <Your password>
Server address: google.com
You contacts will now start syncing from your Google account with your Mac. Any new contacts you make on your Mac will sync with your Google account, and any new contacts in your Google account will sync with your Mac.

My Droid 2 contact came from several sources. Verizon downloaded by Motorola E815 phone contacts and my contact information from an old HTC XV6800. I downloaded other contacts from Outlook and from my HP Palmtop 200LX. All of this made for a pretty awful database since some of the databases only had a single name field. As I tried to correct many of the entries, I got a ton of "Forced closed" messages which was quite annoying, but I quickly learned that it was my contact database which was the culprit. The contact and phone databases have requirements for the type of characters that are allowed in the fields. If the import file has the wrong type of characters in the fields into which the data are imported, you get a "forced closed" error. After cleaning up all the fields, the "forced closed" problem went away.
In the process of cleaning up my contacts, I also noticed at the bottom of each listing there is an entry called 'Linked Profile' with a number in parenthesis following. The number 1 means that this is the only profile for this person. The number 2 would mean a second profile exists. This second profile could be within your contacts database or your phone contact data base. If you had a higher number there, there could be additional entries within the same database - say one entry of First Name, Last Name and another of Last Name, First Name. I had some with 7 entries and believed that these also contributed to my 'forced closed' messages. I decided to unlink each one and found that many of them had only names and phone numbers. These, I believe, came from the import of my old phone database that had been backed up to Verizon's Backup Assistant. There were a few entries which consisted of a name and email address or two. Some with just an email address.
After cleaning up the database and trying to learn about other features on the Droid 2, I decided to ensure my data was being backed up in my Gmail contacts as well as Verizon's Backup Assistant. When I logged into the latter site, I found over 500 deleted addresses. It seems that all those entries which contained only phone numbers that I deleted from my Droid2 were really phone contacts and were deleted from the Backup Assistant database (they were not totally deleted and I could undelete them if I wanted.) I would have thought though that the remaining entries in my contacts are much more complete with complete home and work addresses , phone numbers, email address, IM address, company names, titles, nicknames, Websites, ringtones and whether to send the call straight to voicemail. However, none of these contacts were backed up the Verizon Backup Assistant. They were backed up to my Gmail contacts. I have my Droid 2 scheduled to sync with Google's gmail, gmail contacts and calendar, as well as the Verizon Backup Assistant. My first question is why doesn't the Verizon Backup Assistant back up ALL contacts?
With the Droid 2, if you select the Dialer icon from the full list of programs, it brings up a keypad with a search bar above and 4 Icons on the top - Dialer, Recent calls, Contacts and Favorites. By the way, clicking on the Favorites icon allows you to select your favorites. After clicking the Contacts or Favorites icon, If you long press the menu icon on the bottom left, you then have the option searching your contacts, clearing the frequently called list or setting up your speed dial. It appears to be the only ways to set up the speed dial. Once set up, you can see the assigned speed dial numbers in the entries for those people in your Favorite list. To dial them just click the dialer icon and long press the speed dial number for the contact you want to call. If you remember the numbers by heart, just go right to the dialer and long press the correct number. My next question is at first I had no trouble in setting up the Favorites or the Speed dial, but lately, when I long press the menu icon, it brings up the electronic keyboard. The only way to bring up any options is to open the sliding keyboard, shifting the screen to landscape mode. Pressing the menu icon will then bring up the choices mentioned above. I noticed this occurring within other applications so I believe it is a software problem cause by interactions with other software or a recent update. It seems to be intermittant, corrected momentarily by opening the sliding keyboard, but after a couple of minutes reverts back to the problem mode.
Getting back to the contacts issue, if you select the Contact icon when the Dialer is opened, while many of the contacts that come up are from the Phone Contact database AND are not VIEWABLE when you select the Contact icon on the Home Page. In fact, I have two entries for myself, one with nickname and last name; the other full legal name (first middle and last). Only the one with the nickname shows up in viewing my contacts in the Verizon Backup Assistant. This entry is also found in my main Contacts database on the Droid 2. The entry with my full legal name is not in the Verizon Backup Assistant database. This entry is only viewable from my phone contacts on the Droid2. It does not show up as a Gmail contact and is not viewable on my main contact database. It is also not the first time that my own entry has disappeared. Can anyone explain this?
I have been reading the forum entries on various subjects regarding contacts with most folks focusing on Google's lack of design. However, my wife has an HTC Incredible which also runs Android 2.2. However, its contact system is totally different from Motorola's, as is LG's and Samsung. These systems have the ability to enter data into either the phone database or the contacts database starting from scratch. With Motorola's system the only way to enter a new entry into the phone database is start by keying in a phone number first. This is confusing to the average user who is typically shown by Verizon people how to add entries to the main contact database. All these systems allow for the entry to be displayed either the last name, first name mode or in the first name, last name mode. Take aim at Motorola, not Google. There may be some aspects of the contact system that are controlled by Android, but the sorting of the database and the ease of making entries is not an Android-specific problem.
Next question, with my Bluetooth earphone paired and connected, it takes almost 30 seconds between the pushing of the center button on the Bluetooth for the Droid2's voice command to say "Say a command", to which I respond, "Call Joe Smith mobile" or some other command. It was instantaneous with my old Motorola E815. This kind of delay is totally unacceptable. Does anyone have a clue about why it takes so long?

Address Book/Contacts/Google/iPhone Sync = Tons of Duplicates?

Hi, folks - I'm syncing my contacts with Google, using the following:
1. iPhone: Google Sync for Calendars & Contacts using Microsoft Exchange
2. Macbook: Address Book also syncing to Google under Preferences.
This setup is creating tons of duplicate contacts each day. It's usually the same handful of contacts that get duplicated dozens and dozens of times throughout the day, bloating my few hundred contacts into thousands of entries.
I'm guessing that the set-up below is creating some kind of infinite loop for certain items, and doubles them every time it tries to sync. But I can't find any common characteristics for the items that keep duplicating.
I'm sure the easiest fix would be to turn off option 2, and stop trying to keep my Macbook's local contact list in sync. But that's my way of "backing up" incase my Google account ever gets hosed for any reason.
Does anybody know:
1. How I can fix my set-up above to stop the dupe-loop, OR
2. How to troubleshoot each contact that's duping, fix fields/data etc OR
3. A better way to auto-backup Google so I don't have to use Option 2 at all?

Have the same problem.
Today, as usual did a sync and was very pleased to find that almost all my contacts on IPhone were duplicated. Weird, not all of them.
The problem is that I have to double check every contact, because the duplication was a bit...weird also. Not all duplicates are the same. One might contain all info about a contact and another one might have only one phone number.
So, this is a BIG problem.
I tried deleting all contacts from my Outlook database and sync.
Oh, the joy of having all your IPhone contacts DELETED without even a warning.
Restored a backup and got all my Contacts back, duplicated of course.
Believe me, I am DEAD AFRAID of using ITunes again. Maybe for the ones that did the programing of it might have some logic, but for me, as well as for many Apple customers with the same problem (and more) I think NOT.
This piece of software must have been written on some crazy after party weekend, because I cannot understand how such a big name like Apple can release such a badly written application.
Do we have an alternative to ITunes?

I would use it for purchasing some interesting software from the store, but, most of the software I like...are not in my country's store :)) (Google Earth, The Discovery software, etc). Way to go!

Is there ANY WAY to contact Google/Gmail directly?

I'm having a problem with my account (gaining access to it) and I really need to speak to someone at Google about it but I can't seem to find a contact email address for them anywhere. A company that is so into web searches can't seem to find the time to put contact information on their site...does anyone here have a email addy for them?
Also while I'm at it, is there any kind of adapter I can buy to that I can use my headphones with my iPhone? The hole is recessed to far in and most headphone connectors won't fit-why did Apple make it like this???

Google don't seem to provide much in the way of email support apart from this page http://mail.google.com/support/bin/request.py?contacttype=contactpolicy which "helpfully" doesn't actually give you an email address to contact them.

Contacts not moving from phonebook in my blackberry after removing from my contacts google contacts

contacts in my addressbook in my blackberry are not getting updated properly via automatic sync by gmail.
contacts are not getting deleted from phonebook when they are removed from "my contacts" in Google contacts, but new additions and deletions are getting synced.
when i tried to delete the contacts from my handheld after they have been moved from "my contacts", they got deleted all together. please help.

I've spent the better part of an afternooon trying to get my Outlook contacts transfered to my E5 phone. After several attempts I was able to get the OVI software to install (Windows Vista OS). I Now when I go th sync my Outlook contacts, the "sync now" button is greyed out. Any suggestions?

How to add company/online contacts (Google) on LG Spectrum 2?

I have latest OS version 4.1.2. On other phones such as Droid Razr M, Bionic, Galaxy Nexus, they have the standard People app which connects to my company's business Gmail account and I can easily search for an employee who is currently not in my local contacts and easily add them. With LG Spectrum 2, it was possible to do this (even though this phone does not have the blue People app), with the older OS version. There was an option that you checkmark to enable Online Search for contacts. With this new OS, after enabling this feature, it takes you to a Microsoft Exchange page where you enter username and password. Our company does not have Exchange accounts, we login through Google. Only way I can do it now is to add a contact on my laptop and let it sync over to the phone, this is very annoying. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I can imagine how frustrating it is to try to use your phone as you're supposed to be able to; however, it shuts down instead. Let's get your new Spectrum 2 working how its supposed to be!
When did this start happening? Do you notice any pattern, such as, when you're using another app, or you're on a call, or listening to music, etc.? For now, please try clearing memory: http://vz.to/15zpYyL Once this is completed, please remove SIM card and battery for 30 seconds, then put back together and power back on. Let's see if this helps at all.
Clearing memory is like clearing cache on your PC; therefore, your apps won't be deleted and the phone will still be set up as you have it.

After updating cannot contact Google, Mozilla, and other addresses

I have a Macintosh using a Lion Mac OS X, version 10.7.3, with a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5.
Since I have updated Firefox When I try to use www.google.com to contact any company I receive a window stating:
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.com.
How do I reestablish the connection?

How to sync Address Book with google contacts (google apps)

Hi everybody
With Leopard and Snow Leopard I could sync my Address Book with Google Contacts (in google apps). Now with Lion I can't find a way to sync those contacts. I have an iCloud acount for my personal contacst but our company uses Google Apps for sharing the contacts, and I would like to know how can fix that.

Hi,
Google uses Google Sync to synchronize your contacts with your iOS and OS X. But this, from Jan 30, 2013, is only available to the paid versions of Google Apps (read more on http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2716936).
You can continue to sync on both iOS and OS X using the CardDAV protocol, which, IMHO, is even better.

Mountain Lion Contacts also supports CardDAV accounts. All you need to do is add the CardDAV account with your account credentials and it will synchronize again.

Can't search contacts + Google synch does not work

(1) The search field in contacts does not work. I have to go the phone app, find the person in there, then open up the contact from the phone app.(2) I have synched Google contacts with the phone's contacts. Updates to the phone's contacts transfer across sometimes immediately, but sometimes the phone goes for one month without synching. No manual sync is possible. Basically every time I want to sync a single contact for sure onto Google and onto other devices I have delete the account and reload it. Are there solutions to either of these problems?

Droid x2: how to access contacts with broken screen

My droid X2 screen doesn't work and it doesn't answer phone calls, so it's partly broken, but it does produce the 'Droid' sound when I get an email, so it's not totally dead. Is there any way I can get access to my contacts info so I can input them to my new phone? I don't care if it's a text file or xml or anything...

If you had your contacts synced/saved to your Gmail account just setup the same Gmail account on your new phone & your contacts will appear on your new phone. If you had contacts saved via Backup Assistant, just run Backup Assistant http://vz.to/ISRJSK on your new phone and your contact will appear. Keep us posted.

Search contacts: Google App is a teaser. Any other that works?

I'm searching for a way to search Contacts beyond first and last name. Google App had a teaser that it would search contacts, but indeed it is untrue and doesn't search any fields other than first and last name, just like the 2.0 software update.
Anyone finding another app that performs better? I need to be able to search all fields, especially the notes field, but heck! I'm willing to take any incremental improvement at this point.

I am now seeing this same IP address resolution problem slowly (but surely) populate into other browsers (firefox and internet explorer) in windows. The only way I can rationalize this is there is some kind of address resolution problem with one (or more) of ICANN's DNS servers.

Address book sync with Google broken?

I've been having a hard time getting the address book to sync cleanly with my Gmail account. I'm using a standard Gmail account (not Google Apps), which seems to be supported. I set this up by going into the address book preferences, checking the box for "Synchronize with Google" and putting in my username/password. It seems to accept the login information.
At first, I wasn't able to get it to sync at all, even when I manually clicked the sync button on the menu bar. Sometimes, when I would go back into preferences, the "Synchronize with Google" box would be unchecked. So I'd check it again, then a few minutes later it would be unchecked again.
Somebody suggested also setting it up to sync with a Yahoo! account, so I tried that and it worked. Once I configured it to sync with a Yahoo! account, it successfully sync'd to my Gmail account.
However, it still doesn't work a lot of the time. Sometimes it syncs, sometimes it doesn't. I don't get any error messages, it just doesn't do anything. And sometimes I still go back into preferences and find the box unchecked again.
I've also found a problem where after my initial sync with Gmail, it detected two conflicts, but I can't seem to resolve them. When I click "Review conflicts now" nothing happens. Then when I sync again, I'm told there are two conflicts. But I'm never shown what those conflicts are, and the "Review conflicts now" option never seems to work.
Gmail syncing works perfectly on my iPhone using Activesync, but it hardly works at all on OSX which is really strange and frustrating.

Contact sorting broken in "Lists" print option?

Wanted to print a simple contact list out of Address Book / er um... "Contacts".
If i select "Mailing Lables", "Envelopes", or "Pocket Address Book" everything seems to work as it should.
However, if i select "Lists" the sort-order of list is completely messed-up. I can't even make a guess at what criteria it might be trying to sort by, but it certianly isn't the names.
Replicated the issue on my iMac running Mountain Lion as well.
Anybody else seeing the same thing?
ML bug or just something whacked w/ my contacts?

Contacts application broken, how to reinstall it

I can create contacts in the Contact application, but it doesn't save it. when I restart the applicatio everything disappeared.
I tried to import contacts but it doen't create anything neither.

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
