Contacts Groups Duplicates

I would like to know if anyone can help me deletng the "On my Mac" group from my iPhone Contacts,
Since I would only would like to have the iCloud contacts.
If anyone could help me with this,
Thanks!

Turning off syncing contacts direct with a supported application in your computer via the iTunes sync process followed by selecting Apply does not remove the contacts from your iPhone that were synced direct via the iTunes sync process.
To remove these contacts, do the following.
Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Select your Exchange Account.
Turn Contacts off for over the air syncing. A warning message will be provided indicating this will erase the contacts on your iPhone synced with the Exchange Server. Select OK. If you are provided a prompt to save these contacts locally on your iPhone, decline.
Follow this by turning Contacts back on for over the air syncing. You will be provided a merge prompt, which you want to select. Since these are duplicates, nothing should be changed with your Exchange contacts.
This will eliminate the duplicates.
The ability to sync contacts and calendar events direct via the iTunes sync process along with syncing Exchange business contacts and calendar events over the air is for those who want to have personal contacts and calendar events synced with a supported application on their personal computer at home along with their business contacts and calendar events, which are kept separate on the iPhone. You can view business and personal contacts and calendar events combined or separately on your iPhone.

  • Duplicate contact groups

I have duplicate contact groups in itunes for windows. These duplicates do not exist in outlook. When syncing these duplicate groups our put on my iphone.

I had this happen.  I deleted the groups on my Mac in the CONTACTS.  That cleared it up.

  • Deleting Duplicate Contact Group

So... I sync'd my contacts "from my mac" while I was already syncing with MobileMe, and now I have duplicates of all my contacts, and as such I would like to delete the "All from My Mac" group.
In searching for a solution, I found various older posts all of which basically said that you cannot delete an entire contact group on an iPhone. But as the most recent post I found was 6 months old, I am wondering if anybody out there has any new insight they can provide to solve this mildly annoying situation?
    Lance.

To get rid of the duplicate contacts caused by syncing with both MobileMe and your computer:
    1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > MobileMe account > Contacts > "OFF"
    2. You will be asked what you want to do with previously synced contacts - select "Delete from my iPhone".
    3. Connect your phone to iTunes, go to device page, info tab and disable sync contacts.
    4. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > MobileMe acct > Contacts > "ON"
    5. You will then get message: "There are existing contacts synced with your Mac. Would you like to merge them with your MobileMe account?" Choose "Do not merge."
    6. You will then be asked: "What would you like to do with the existing contacts on your iPhone?" Choose "Delete."
    7. In a couple of minutes your phone will sync back your contacts from MobliMe, without the duplicate copy from your computer.
If you also have duplicate Calendar entries, do the same process with calendars - can be done at the same time.

  • HT4897 Icloud email alias apparently causing duplicate notes and contact groups

I seem to be getting duplicate notes and nearly duplicate contact groups as a result of my alias email account.  This coincided with the upgrade of my iphone, but the problem is on my iMac running Mountain Lion OS.
When I open preferences for Mail, Contacts, & Calendars,  I see one iCloud icon with a cloud and another with an @ sign.  The one with the @ sign is associated with my alias email account.  I still use that account.
Any idea how to correct this?

  • Remove duplicate contact groups

I have hundreds of duplicate contact groups in my icloud contacts and on my macbook pro. I cannot find help with this.  I am using Mavericks.

I found a solutiuon that worked for me from a different thread posted below.  The only thing I did differently was I moved the whole directory /AddressBook to my desktop.  When I launched Contacts after that, I saw that OS X created a new AddressBook directory.  I then went to iCloud and switched Contacts back on and boom I had all my updated contacts from iCloud WITHOUT duplicate groups!
    Back up all data.
Quit Contacts or Address Book if it’s running. If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contacts in the iCloud  preference pane.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return.
A Finder window will open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
Relaunch the application and test. If there’s no improvement, quit and put back the item you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the item.

My iPhone has two contact groups of the same name. One of the duplicate group's is empty. One has appropriate contacts. My computer's address book does not have the same duplication. Yet, when I sync through iTunes the duplicate group still remains on the iPhone. How do I remove this duplication?

    Hello Joannah,
Thank you for details of the issue you are experiencing with duplicates in Contacts after upgrading to OS X Mavericks.  I would be frustrated by this too.
If you have enabled iCloud Contacts, I recommend following the steps in the article below:

If you’re not using iCloud, I recommend this article instead:

  • How to export an Mac Mail/Contact Group directly to a Google group

Hi, for my new blog, I would like to use Google Group to distribute it, but would like to avoid retyping each address into the Google group list. Is there a simple way to export the group I have already set up in my Apple contacts list directly to the Google Group? There are several hundred names.

    Hi,
Export from the first machine running outlook 2010
Open Outlook on the computer containing the desired contacts and click the "File" tab.
Click "Options" then click "Advanced" to display advanced Outlook options.
Click the "Export" button, then select "Export to a file" and click "Next."
Select "CommaSeparatedValues (Windows)" as the file type and click "Next."
Select the Contacts folder when prompted, then click "Next." This will export all individual contacts and contact groups within the folder.
Click "Browse" and select where to save the export file. The destination location should be on a removable storage device such as a USB flash drive to allow you to import the file on the other computer.
Type a name for the file in the file name box and click "OK."
Click "Next" when prompted and then click "Finish."
    Import to the second machine
Open Outlook on the computer you want to import the contacts to and click the "File" tab.
    Click "Open" and then "Import."
Select "Import from another program or file" and then click "Next."
Select "CommaSeparatedValues (Windows)" when prompted to select the file type to import and then click "Next."
Select "Browse" to locate and choose the export file and then click "OK."
Select the desired import options and click "Next." The first option, "Replace Duplicates with Items Imported," allows the import process to overwrite existing contact information to prevent duplicate contact creation. The second option, "Allow Duplicates
to be Created," retains existing contact information and creates duplicate contact entries with the imported data. The third option, "Do Not Import Duplicate Items," retains existing contact information. These options only are relevant if duplicate contacts
already exist in Outlook on the computer running the import.
Click the Contacts folder when prompted to select the destination folder. Click "Next," followed by "Finish."
    Hope that helps.

  • Sync iPhone Contacts Group to Outlook

I have a iPhone that was sync with other mailing system. Now I want sync those contact to my companys outlook and it's sync succssfully. But I find that was miss the contact groups information and cannot edit it in the outlook. It's strange that the iTurn can display the contact group information but it's cannot be found in the outlook.
    What is the problem?
    Thanks!

i have a new iphone as of last week -- had all my contacts in outlook 2007 in one group and synced them. then i figured out I could create groups in folders-- which would make searching easier on the iphone. i did that and they show up in itunes and sync perfectly.
fyi -- (i couldn't get "contact groups" to work -- i had to create new folders in outlook contacts instead of groups. that may help the problems listed in this thread.)
now, i'm trying to figure out how to "delete" the initial contacts (that are all of my contacts in one group) from the iphone and leave them on outlook.
i'm working with outlook 2007 and a pc. the initial sync in essence duplicates all of my contacts and is unnecessarily taking up space on the iphone.
    any ideas?

  • Import Outlook contact groups into OSX Mail

Is there any way to automatically import a contact group from Mac Outlook Express5 to Mail? An AppleScript possibly?
The only alternative that I have seen is to copy/paste each individual email address from Outlook to a new group in Mail; one-at-a-time, extremely time consuming for large newsletter lists.
I'm trying to help a friend who has an iBook with OS9 and OS10.3.9.

You can't transfer the groups, you'll need to do it the hard way.
As for the duplicates, how many accounts do you have in your Address Book?

  • Contact groups in iSync

    Hello,
the contact groups I see in iSync do not match with my addressbook! How can i get this information in sync?
    Thanks
    Stephan O.

    Hi Stephan.
I found that iSync had errors when syncing that was stopping it refreshing the groups successfully.
    1. Open Applications > Utilities > Console.
    2. Open iSync and try and sync
Look in the console log and see if it comes up with any entries with error or failure in them. In my case I had an error that a directory did not exist and this was causing iSync to lock up when it came to refreshing groups from Addressbook. My error is reproduced below.
2006-05-30 12:19:26.124 AddressBookSync[324] SyncServices assertion failure ([[NSFileManager defaultManager] fileExistsAtPath:directory]) in [ISDRecordStore initWithDatabaseInDirectory:], /SourceCache/SyncServices2/SyncServices2-188/SyncServices/ISDRecordStore.m:32 directory does not exist: /Users/xxx/Library/Application Support/SyncServices/Local/clientdata/0063006f006d002e006100700070006c0065002e0 0410064006400720065007300730042006f006f006b
In my case, I created the directory mentioned which stopped the error occurring. For some other reason when I sync'd next I had duplicate contact groups - but one of the duplicates was empty. I was then able to delete the duplicates in AddressBook and sync my desired group to my phone.
If iSync works correctly, you should only receive one line in the log after syncing if there are no changes e.g.
2006-05-30 12:38:37.709 iSync[339] we receive the end of our sync plan
This may or may not help in your situation.
    Cheers Gav

  • Syncing Contact Groups

Afternoon all, wonder if anyone can help me with something. Not sure if this is going to be possible but no harm in asking eh?
Basically, at our company we have 3 senior managers all using iPhone3G. They have their Exchange mailboxes syncing mail, contacts and calanders to their iPhones. They can access our company golbal address book fine in the Groups section of contacts.
Is it possible to sync another address book to their iPhones as well as the global company address list? E.G. in contact groups on the iPhone, they will see Global Contacts as a group and also this other group of contacts.
    Hope this makes sense?!?
    Cheers

  • N95 Contact Groups with iSync

    Hi there,
I have done some searching around and can only find old posts on this and was wondering if this had been sorted since.
I have a Macbook and I use contact groups in my Address Book. I would like those contact groups to be created on my n95 address book when I use iSync.
Can this be done? Also, if it can be done with a special program please tell me as I will happily install something to get this to work.
    Thanks,
    Mike
