Contacts Lost on iPod 4 Running 5.1.1 - Cannot Fully Restore

Hello and thanks in advance for anyone who might be able to help me resolve this frustrating issue.
I am using an iPhone 4 Model MD146LL with OS 5.1.1. My carrier is Sprint.
Several days ago I attempted to make a call by using the Phone icon.
The call dialog window opened for a split second, then closed and left me back at the desktop. This happened the same way on the three subsequent tries to make a call.
I then tried Voice Control, and again the VC screen appeared for a split second and disappeared.
I performed a soft restart using the power button on the top.
When the phone came back up in a few seconds, every one of my contacts was gone.
All phone numbers were still visible in the call and messaging logs.
Everything else about the phone appeared fine except for the missing contacts.
I did a little research and saw that the most common resolution was to do a restore from a backup.
Now as to my situation with iCloud. I had never had occasion to use iCloud until four or five days prior to this happening when I wanted to transfer several images from my PC to the iPhone. I installed the app on my PC and it worked fine. The images synched to my phone and I was all set. I never opened the iCloud app on my phone during this process, nor had I ever opened it prior to looking to resolve the contact issue.Part of the suggested method of restoring was to go into iCloud and verify the backup and sync settings. To my great surprise every backup setting was turned off (I assume by default as I had never even been in iCloud settings before) except for Docs & Data and Find My iPhone. In the Storage & Backup section iCloud Backup was turned on.
I then preceded to follow the instructions I located on several sites including this one to Reset the phone, and restore from an earlier backup.
This seemed to work fine and the phone went through all the steps of a reset, prompting me to restore from an iCloud backup which I found dated two days prior to the first problem. I selected it and the restore continued with the expected duration showing along with a progress bar. After about 20 minutes I swiped the unlock to check the progress and the desktop was now showing along with a message telling me to continue my backup with WiFi which I did.
Then nothing else would happen.
I now had a phone with all my contacts still missing, although the logs were still there, and dated to the restore date.
Additionally, every single app I had downloaded or purchased was missing, along with all my photos. The photos showed the correct number in each folder, and even had gray box icons where the images should have been.
After researching a little more, I checked the iCloud settings under Storage & Backup and the message Stop Restoring iPhone is there and the message says it is currently being restored. I left it overnight but the next morning nothing had changed.
At this point I was leery of doing more harm than good on my own and visited an Apple store. The rep I spoke to was less than enthusiastic and in so many words told me it was a known issue on OS 5 and that I could restore it. I retold my story in case he missed the whole point of my already trying the steps he was proposing. He then suggested that it might be due to the phone losing WiFi and that I should try again and then proceeded to try to sell me a new phone.
I decided to try to work the problem again again and have followed the same procedure several times, using all three backup dates available all ending with the same result described above.
I had thought that the 3G network might be taking over and bumping the WiFi as a couple times I noticed a quick service indicator switch between the two when I unlocked my phone. So I took the phone to a location where there is no 3G access ( we live in a rural area) and performed the restore again. The only difference now is I can't activate my phone with Sprint. So I have a brick at this point.
One last thing to note: I checked if I had ever backed up via iTunes and I had not either by iCloud or onto the PC. (I know shame on me but when we got the phone we were told about the wonderful iCloud service taking care of all that for me.)
I believe that about covers the problem and my steps to remedy. I again thank anyone who might suggest a solution. Please let me know if there's more information I might need to provide or anything that might need to be clarified.

That is exactly what I have been doing. Which is what the rep at the Apple Store suggested I do as well.
However, I end up at the same place where the phone stops restoring, but there is a button in iCloud under Storage & Backup that says Stop Restoring iPhone - This iPhone is currently being restored and will automatically back up when it is done.
So the restore never fully finishes - that was the point I was making when the rep suggested a drop in WiFi due to 3G taking over or another issue. The entire time I have tried the latest restore the phone had been within 10 feet of my wireless router and there has been no downtime.

Sorry to hear about your missing iPod Touch, but unfortunately if you didn't install a tracking app on it I will be very difficult to find.  You should go into your iTunes account and change your password as soon as possible.

  • I recently lost all of my contacts on my iPod touch 4g.  If I sync my iPod with my backups on my PC,will the contacts come back or will they be deleted also?

I recently lost all of my contacts on my iPod touch 4g.  If I sync my iPod with my backups on my PC, will the contacts come back to my iPod or will the sync delete the contacts from my backup file?

The contacts are part of the backup. So restoring from a backup that has the contacts should have the contacts. Make sure that you have autosyncing turned off, otherwise when you connect the iPod to the computer iTunes may overwrite the old backup with the new contents of the iPod that does not contain the contacts. To turn off go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says Prevent iPods...

    Not really
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

There is little chance of recovering your iPod. The police will do little. It it is turned then they can contact you.

  • Contacts created on iPod do not sync to Exchange server. Outlook created Contacts sync to iPod correctly.

I have an iPod Touch 4th gen (model MC544LL), running iOS 5.1.1
My Contacts and email synchronize with the corporate Exchange server of my employer.
I use Outlook 2007 (Windows) on my Desktop.
If I create a contact in Outlook 2007, it synchs to the iPod.
If I modify that contact on the iPod, it synchs back to the Exchange server.
    All that works great.
    However!
If I create a Contact on the iPod, it never syncs to the exchange server. It is only available on my iPod.
I do not see contacts in Outlook, that were created on the iPod.
I only discovered this today. I'm not sure how many contacts I created on the iPod that do not exist in Outlook. (I have hundreds of contacts).
It is a most vexing problem. I hope that someone may have a solution.

Searching the site more, I found this link to be very helpful.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2047996?start=0&tstart=0
I did not find a way to move the contact to the Exchange server directly, but I found out how to find the locally created contacts and then I could email the contacts one by one, to my Outlook email, then add them to the Exchange server contacts.

  • Lost my iPod and don't know how to get back my photos

I lost my iPod touch 5th generation and don't know how to get back my photos.  It is running iOS 8.1.
    Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Get them back from where?
They will only be where you put them.
If you used photo stream, then look for them there.
If you imported them to your computer, then they will be there.
If you did not put them anywhere but your iPhone, then they are gone.
    Sorry

  • I have lost my IPOD Toch. What can I do?

I have lost my ipod touch. what can i do to get it back?

Did you set up iCloud on this iPod?
Find my iPod - https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/find-my-iphone/id376101648?mt=8.  This works with any iOS devices running iOS 6 or later.
If not, see the following links -

  • Lost my ipod touch can i find it if someone uses it

I lost my ipod touch can i find it if someone uses it

If you set up the Find My iPod service prior to the iPod going missing, then there is a chance that can be tracked, though it depends on a number of factors (the iPod is turned on, connected to a WiFi network, and has not had the Find My iPod service disabled or the iPod been completely restored).
If you did not set up Find My iPod, then there is no way to track it. Contact the police and change any passwords for any online accounts you may have used from your iPod (the iTunes Store, for instance).
    Regards.

  • Finding My Lost Treasured Ipod Touch

I have lost my ipod touch 3rd Gen 32gb on a holiday flight from Newcastle on 4/7/2011 to Turkey I have made enquires at both Newcastle and Antalya (Turkey) Airports "Lost Property Depts" with no success.
My last resort is with itunes and wonder if it is possible to find if the Ipod has been re-registered in a new name the serial no of the Ipod is 1C9449LC6K2 any information would be gratefully received as it is my most treasured possession and contains many photographic memories and songs.
Thanks Hopefully Miss Toni Michelle Smith   ([email protected])

If your iPod Touch was registered with Find My iPhone (free on some newer models but comes included in MobileMe) then you can use that to find it. However, if you not then your best bet would be to contact Apple directly. I would recommend going into an Apple Store and visiting the Genius Bar (hopefully they can help you out). If you don't have an Apple Store close to you then I would recommend calling Apple Support.
    Hope this helps! Good luck!

  • I lost my ipod at the arena todat and I need to know how to find it ! thanks .

I lost my ipod touch today at the arena and i need to know how to find it ! thanks

    Keep looking.
Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod.  If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number).  If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief.  All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself.  Something as small as an iPod should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

  • Lost my iPod, remotely locked it through iCloud. What happens when the battery goes out?

    Hello!
I lost my Ipod, but managed to locate and lock it remotely through Find my iPod and iCloud. It was located once, but hasn't been located again in the last four days. I think the battery may have run out. What happens when the battery is charged and the iPod turned back on? Does the lock and everything else that can be controlled with Find my iPod still apply?
    Thank you!

Yes, because when you remotely lock the iPod via Find my iPod, the lock code is set as the lock code that you would use to unlock the iPod if you used a passcode normally. As long as the iPod is still connected to your Apple ID, Find my iPod should work as log as the iPod is connected to wifi.

  • I lost my ipod i bought i new one...i just wanna know if i can still recover all the songs i bought and downloaded from my lost ipod to the new one..if i can how will i do that since i downloaded everything and bought in my ipod not in my computer

i lost my ipod and i just bought a new one...i just wanna know if i can still recover my downloads from my lost one to the new one since i bought and downloaded all the songs through my ipod and not through computer..if i can, how can i do that?

    Nope.
Apple recomends after each purchase to BACKUP your purchases. If purchased on a mobile device (iPhone, iTouch, iPod, etc) you should transfer your purchases to a computer running iTunes as soon as possible to back them up.
If you don't have your items in your library, I'm afraid there is little recourse.
Hope you did not loose too much.
