Contacts mobileme sync (mac) issue, sync removed contact numbers!

Hi.
I have a iphone 3G and sync it with my mobileme account and back to my osx10.5.4 mac. Problem is that last night the Iphone mysteriously lost all fields of informations for all of my contacts leaving only behind obsecure fields and the notes fields on the iphone.
Upon investigation the mobileme account had all the contact details but somehow they have been removed from the phone... Is there a sync issue???
I fixed by going into mobileme settings on the mac and resetting all data on the mobileme account. This then after a couple of mins updated the iphone with all the contact information again.
If it wasnt a mobileme issue then my iphone was hacked, anyone had any suspicions/experience with this?

Hi everyone,
My problem is a little different. I don't have a MobileME mail account. Here's how I lost all my contacts: My work uses an Exchange server, and I went in, put all the settings in, once I had it all set up and going, my contacts instantly disappeared. I just had a few in my work / Exchange account, and those are now on the phone, but ALL the contacts I had on there before are now gone!
I've tried removing the Exchange account, and even removed my personal GMail account, and still, nothing. Anyone have any ideas before I have to spend hours, if not days, searching for and adding all my contacts again???
I'm (obviously) quite frustrated by this. I have tried just about every solution - syncing with my computer again, turning the phone off for a few minutes, then back on, I looked all over for the addressbook.data file, but can't seem to locate that anywhere, so that's a no go.
Any input / suggestions would be very much appreciated... I'm hoping to resolve this without having to manually put everything back in, but I'm afraid that may not be possible.

  • How can sync Contacts on My Mac with my Icloud Contacts?

Does anyone know how can set up a sync between "Contacts on My Mac" and my "Icloud Contacts"?  I am looking to get a complete copy in both locations.  Is there a way to do it in the OS or any reliable third party software?  Any help is much appreciated... thanks!

Outlook for Mac is not compatible with iCloud. The only people who can fix this are Microsoft, who, so far, refuse to support the industry standard CalDAV and CardDAV protocols iCloud uses in their Mac products.
Microsoft would prefer you use their own proprietary syncing solution - Exchange - to sync with Outlook.
Although Microsoft don't support open sync protocols, Apple do support both open and closed protocols so Macs, iPhones and iPads all support syncing with Microsoft Exchange, as well as with iCloud, Google Sync and others.
If you insist on using Outlook for Mac, you'll have to switch over to a Microsoft Exchange based system to sync with your iOS devices.

  • Syncing Mac Address Book with iCloud

Hello, I am trying to sync my Mac Address Book with iCloud. All contacts that are created under iCloud on Mac Addess Book are immediately synced. But if I create a contact on the Mac book exclusively, that contact will not get synced with iCloud.
Does it mean that if we want to sync Mac address book contacts with iCloud, they should always be created under the iCloud category on the Mac? Can someone help me with this. I have checked all sync options are switched "on" and sync is working fine across all other apps.
    Thanks,
    Farhan

I believe the duplicate address books stems from the move from MobileMe to iCloud.
In system preferences I found an iCloud icon and also a MobileMe icon. I was logged in under both.
    1)  In the Address Book preferences I selected iCloud and unchecked Enable this account.
    2)  In the Address Book I selected iCloud and clicked on the minus “-” to remove that account – leaving only the local Mac address book.
    3)  I went into system preferences and logged out of MobileMe
    4)  In system preferences I opened iCloud and the “Contacts” was not selected (from above) and I selected it.
I got a dialog box asking if I wanted to merge the iCloud contact with the local contacts – clicked YES.
… spinning wheel for a minute … voila – only one address book account – iCloud with syncing to iCloud and my iPhone.

  • Having problem with iCloud contact on my mac

I'm having problem with my iCloud contact on my mac. My iCloud contact doesn't appear on my Mac.
I already backup my iPhone contacts to my iCloud account today and I also already follow any instruction on iCloud Apple Support. But my problem still exist.
For the information, i'm using the 10.9 OSX and 7.0.2 IOS. I believe there's no problem with my browser. I already try with Safari, Firefox and Chrome.
    Thanks for your kindly attention.

It's very funny, guys. Right after I post this question, my iCloud contacts succesfully appear on my Mac. LOL.

  • Sync issues with Contacts for BB Mac Desktop

Since the BB Uprade Install for the Bold I have not been able to properly sync my device with the Mac.  New contacts and edits don't syc at all and notes on any contacts don't update or synce.
Very frusting but I am sure there is a fix.  PLEASE ADVISE!!!
    Thanks.

I have a Pearl 3G and have had similar problems each time there is an update/upgrade. The one I downloaded and installed this week took a long time, but then the first synchronization would not stop. I eventually had to force it to stop, generating errors. I've had this before.
What I've done previously is cumbersome.
I start with turning off automatic sync.
I turn off sync for most items (contacts, tasks, etc.) and leave only calendars.
I generally have to over-write all the calendar entries on the device or the sync appears to go on forever (hours, even overnight).
I generally start with over-writing only future events, then check the box to include some new and old, increase the new and old range, then eventually sync everything in the calendar. --- Each step requires an additional manual sync.
I then start to sync Contacts, Notes, etc.
BUT ... and this is the very frustrating part ... I have to address up to hundreds of conflicts. This is the part that makes no sense.
I'd like some help and answers on this topic too.

  • Can't sync contacts anywhere from mac.

    Mac OSX 10.6.5, iOS 4.3
My wife's MacBook Pro syncs to MobileMe and with iTunes, syncs to her iPod Touch and new iPad 2. We discovered yesterday that the MBP was not syncing contacts correctly to MM, so I deleted all contacts on MM after archiving the MBP's contacts. Then I followed a number of suggestions for getting MBP to sync contacts to MM (e.g. logging off MM and then unregistering/re-registering the mac and syncing from mac to MM), but I was unsuccessful every time.
In the meantime, her Touch and iPad lost their contacts since they sync with MM as well. Contacts on the mac are still there, I've turned off syncing (down) from MM in MobileMe's system preferences.
Today, I decided to give up on MM for the time being, since a lot of users in the MM forum are having similar problems. I then went into iTunes, checked the box to sync all contacts from MBP to Touch. The sync did not copy the data. At this point I began suspecting the MBP had a problem and not MM.
I "reset Sync Services" in iSync, rebooted the mac, and tried to sync via iTunes to the Touch again. The sync went through all the motions, but when done, the Touch still had no contacts. I turned off cloud syncing to MM on the Touch and did another sync in iTunes. The tab for contacts on MM went away as expected and no contacts came in from the mac. I also tried syncing with iTunes to the iPad, same result.
Here's one strange thing - on some help web page for fixing non-syncs using contacts, it mentions that after dong a sync reset and going into the iTunes tab for the iPad/Touch, when I turn on syncing of the address book, I should be able to choose All contacts or only certain groups. However, I am unable to choose the latter; I can only sync all contacts. (Only the All Contacts radio button works, the other is grayed out.)
An apple help page on resetting the SyncServices folder mentions issuing a command in Terminal, if the iSync "reset Sync Services" doesn't work:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl
    reset
That didn't work either. As a test of syncing to the iPad/Touch, I added an event in iCal and turned on Calendar syncing in iTunes for each device. That event did sync. It appears it's only the contacts that don't seem to sync anywhere - not to other devices and not MobileMe.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

You'd be better off asking in the dedicated MobileMe forums starting here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=116
iSync itself plays no part in syncing iOS devices or with MobileMe. iSync is for syncing third-party mobile phones via a USB or Bluetooth connected.
iSync shares use of the same SyncServices framework as iTunes and MobileMe, and provides one method for resetting it, but that's the only connection.
Here's a couple of MobileMe Support articles that may help:

  • I can't sync my contacts to my mac (BB 9900, OSX Lion, Latest desktop software for mac installed)

Hi, I have a new blackberry bold 9900, the latest operating system for Apple (OSX Lion), the latest update on my desktop software and the latest update on my BB. However, I am only able to sync 37 of my contacts to Address Book on my mac, and I want to sync all 250+. I am not sure why this is.
Also for some reason, my new contacts are being saved to my googlemail contact list, although i have never specified this. Is there a way to stop this, and is there a way to change the contacts that are already saved on my googlemail list to my Desktop list?
thank you for your help in advance....

    Hey All,
DBJohnson - The Forget Device option removes all the synchronization history that is associated with that BlackBerry so if there was a corruption in the synchronization folder it would be cleared and fixed.
rubenmarcano - How many contacts are setup on the Mac Address Book?  Do you 2 different Address Books on the BlackBerry?  To find this information, go into Contacts on the BlackBerry and press the menu key and select Options and it will list 2 Contact lists.  IF there is 2, that can cause the problem since BlackBerry Desktop Software will only synchronize with 1 contact list.  I look forward to your reply.
Joycetz - Did you sync not work from BlackBerry to Mac or vice versa?  Also are you using Outlook or Mac Address Book or Entourage?

  • .mac iCloud address causing 'contacts' syncing problems

    Hello,
This may have already been addressed here, but if not hopefully this may be helpful.  I have been having many issues syncing contacts to my iPad Air.  The correct contacts are on my Macbook, my iCloud account, and on my iPhone, however they were not syncing correctly to my iPad.  I tried all the usual fixes, i.e. turning iCloud off on my iPad, signing out of iCloud on my iPad and singing back in, etc... to no avail.  Everything BUT contacts was syncing between all my devices.
That is when I noticed that all my devices under settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars->Accounts listed an 'iCloud' account for mail, contacts, calendars, Safari.  However, my iPad Air listed a .MAC address for these.  If I tried to add an iCloud account, it would say that an iCloud account has already been added to your iPad.  Once I deleted the .Mac account and choose to erase all the information on my iPad, I was able to add a iCloud account back to my iPad.  The account now shows up as an 'iCloud' account and not a '.Mac' account.  Problem solved.  Hope this helps anyone having this issue.
    Billy

Did you change it on both phones?  If you are syncing contacts with separate iCloud accounts on both phones, then the only way I can think of that your contacts would be linked is by syncing them both with another external sources, such as an exchange account.  Setting iCloud as the default account for contacts on both phones would cause new contacts to be created in iCloud, and since your iCloud accounts are different on each phone, I don't see how contacts added to the iCloud account on one phone would be seen on the other.
You may need to go to icloud.com and confirm that new contacts added to each phone are added to your separate iCloud accounts, just to confirm that the change to settings is working properly.

  • ICloud Contacts on mac not syncing to iCloud

    Hello,
I have an issue syncing all my icloud contacts. When I open the "Contacts" app on my mac and click on the filter "All iCloud", it displays numerous contacts. But then when i go and look on icloud.com, it displays only half of them. I first though it just needed some time to sync all of my contacts on the cloud, but after a day, the issue is obviously something else.
On my iPhone, half of the contacts are missing too.
It is not an icloud storage space problem (i have 4.5gb free on 5gb). Contacts synchronisation in iCloud have indeed been activated (on my mac and on my iphone). And the contacts that are missing are contradictorily indeed present in the Contacts mac app and as icloud contacts.
To explain the issue a bit further, it all started when i gave my old iphone to a friend and forgot to unconnect my icloud account on it. She then deleted all of my contacts, calendars and reminders which caused them to be deleted from all of my devices. After asking her to disconnect my account and to sign hers in, i went into my time machine to fetch my previous contacts and calendars. My icloud calendars and reminders are now synched and back in order. But for my icloud contacts, only half of them synched.
    Thank you for your help,
    Pierrick Allan

I have a Google account linked to my contacts too. But there is no contacts attached to my google account. I do not have any contact on my mac either.
Here's a screenshot that shows the problem well. Notice the contact "Edwin Allan": he's listed in my "all icloud" contacts nevertheless he is not on icloud.com, neither on my iphone.

  • ISync / MobileMe Sync added 18.000 blank contacts in Contacts app !

... and this keeps syncing with all my computers. This becomes a **** and I disabled the synchronization of course, but how can I solve this ? Where does this bug come from ? Anyone else with the same problem out here ? Many thanks for your help !

If you are syncing between computers, then it wasn't iSync.
iSync is only for syncing contacts and calendars to non-Apple mobile phones via a local USB or Bluetooth connection. It does not sync anything between computers.
The *MobileMe Sync* forums start here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=116
Incidentally, your signature say's you are running Mac OS X 10.3.x - the minimum requirements for MobileMe are Mac OS X 10.5.8

  • Contacts - "On My Mac" and "iCloud" possible to sync?

Trying to sync contacts with my mac and my iOS devices through iCloud. It took me awhile to figure out what is actually happening here, even though it seems obvious now. Unfortunately I can find no way to do what I need.
Set up iCloud on iPad, iPhone, Safari on MacBook Pro, using fine. Noticed not all contacts syncing. Preferences on all devices say use iCloud, and use Mail and Contacts on all devices.
Finally noticed that on MacBook Pro Contacts, over on left page, at top left it says "All Contacts", under that "On my Mac", under that ""iCloud". Finally figured out that "On My Mac" contacts are separate from "iCloud" contacts (seems obvious). The contacts in "iCloud" are the only ones which sync with your iOS devices, and the MacBook Pro Mail program only adds contacts to "On My Mac" set. Yuck!
I can find no way to have contacts from Mail automatically add to the "iCloud" set of contacts instead of the "On My Mac" set. I cannot figure out how to get these contacts in the "On My Mac" set to sync to iCloud without some very fancy and complicated exporting, deleting, importing ALL contacts, and it is a lot easier just to type the contact info into a new card in the "iCloud" contact set, but I wish I could get iCloud to work automatically with Mail and "On My Mac" contacts, or find some setting or workaround so that I just don't even use or have the "On My Mac" contacts.
Does anyone know of some setting to allow me to use iCloud exclusively? That's why I want iCloud and Mac, to work together.
The way I often add contacts is:
In Safari, click an email link
In mail, a new email opens so I can send
click the triangle on the right end of the address in the "To" line
    a box appears
scroll down to the bottom, "Show Contact Card" (this used to automatically open the address book, but Mountain Lion unfortunately added a step here)
    A box appears
click upper right hand corner, "Open with Contacts"
    Edit card as needed
Note: this card appears with the "All Contacts" line highlighted on the left hand side of left page
It is also in "On My Mac" set
It is NOT in "iCloud" set, therefore will not sync with iOS devices
Anyone know how to get Mail to put its created contacts into iCloud to start with?

    Hi Virginia,
Try setting up your iCloud account in the Contacts preferences. Contacts>Preferences>Accounts:
Click the "+" to add your iCloud account, and when you get to this screen:
In the "Account Type" field, use the dropdown to select iCloud, then add your iCloud sign-on info.
Don't know if this will work, but my Contacts book only has "All Contacts" listed on the left-hand page - there is no "On My Mac" or "On iCloud" listed at all....
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
    GB

  • How can I sync my iPhone contacts to my Mac and vice-versa, without losing them? Can i do it with iCloud?

I always add new phone numbers on my iPhone Contacts, while new email addresses are always added on my Mac Contacts. The result is that I dont have my recent email contacts on my phone, while on the Mac I dont have the recent phones.
I would like to have ONE common list of contacts (same for iPhone & Mac) which will be AUTOMATICALLY updated for both, once I add a new entry.
I am not sure how to do this with syncing, I am afraid I wll lose my old contacts. Can I do this with iCloud?

    Hello there, Seta.
You are correct that this can be done with iCloud. The following Knowledge Base article provides some great instruction for syncing contacts:
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1296
    Particularly:
    Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, and Notes
You can sync contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and notes with other applications on your computer. This allows you to keep all your information in sync across multiple computers and iOS devices. The settings for these items are all in the Info tab for your iOS device in iTunes. With your iOS device connected to the computer, select your iOS device. Then click the Info tab.
For details on syncing content on your iOS device with your computer, click the sections below.
    Contacts
To sync contacts with your computer, choose "Sync Contacts with" within iTunes for Windows, or "Sync Contacts" in OS X v10.8, or "Sync Address Book Contacts" in OS X v10.7 and earlier.
You can sync your contacts with:
Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Outlook 2010 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
    Windows Address Book (Windows XP)
Windows Contacts (Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8)
Address Book (Mac OS X v10.7 and earlier)
    Contacts (Mac OS X v10.8)
Microsoft Entourage 2004, Microsoft Entourage 2008, or Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
    Notes:
When syncing contacts, you can choose to sync all of your contacts or only selected groups. The option to sync selected items may not show up until after the first sync.
You can select a group of contacts to which all new contacts created on your iOS device will be added.
Additional options for syncing include syncing your contacts with Yahoo or Gmail/Google Mail. You will need to configure it with the user name and password for your Yahoo or Google account.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Iphone Sync deleted all contacts on google, Mac Address Book and Itunes

I have my phone synced to my google contacts. I did a sync trying to sync itunes, google and my address book and now everything has been deleted. I created a back up a month ago but when I do a restore from back up, it still does not give me my contacts, some how it is still syncing to google which is now blank. It's weird because the restore even gives me texts and photos I had on the back up date but it won't give me the contacts. I have tried changing the settings on the phone so it won't sync to google, I even changed my password on google hoping this would stop teh sync & allow the backup to show my contacts. I have tried using an iphoen extractor as well but since my phone is not jailbroken I am unable to use the file. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Sorry, should have given more info-I have an iphone 3G, MacBook Pro, operating system is MAC OS X.
Iphone syncs to google contacts but last sync deleted all of them (google & address book). I do have a back up which I know has all the contacts but when I do the restore, it still is syncing to google so I still don't have any contacts. How do I get my contacts from the backup & prevent the iphone from over riding the back up & syncing to google?
