Contacts modified on iPhone - changes disappear

Question

I have had the opportunity to make changes to a contact record on the iPhone but when I return to my desk and plug the phone the changes are gone!
Thank God I've been able to remember what updates I made, otherwise it's a royal pain in the rear and totally unproductive. I feel like I cannot trust the phone.
For example: A call comes in, it's a client's Cell Phone. I select to add the recent call record phone number to the existing contact's record as a mobile. It seems to work fine, but when I plug in, nothing.
Now, once at my desk, I can uncradle the phone, make the same exact change and it's respected this time.

Had you made any more recent changes to the record on your computer?
In addition, you can set the sync process to warn you, and give you options anytime it will make a change to either the computer or the iPhone.
You can do this by opening iSync, going to preferences and set it to warn you whenever there is any change.
The percent option is based on the number of entries. 5000 contacts, you could have about 250 contacts changed before hitting the 5% mark.
