Contacts no longer syncing from iphone to imac

If I create a new contact, or change an existing one, on my iPhone, it does not show up in Contacts on my iMac. Have I missed some critical iCloud setting?

Check that your phone and your imac are both signed into the same iCloud account. Check that Contacts are switched on, check that you are entering new contacts into the iCloud account (on your phone)
Go to www.icloud.com and enter a new contact, check that the new contact appears on your phone.

  • My iMac calendar and contacts no longer sync on iPhone and iPad?

I updated iTunes on my iMac a few months ago. Since then my calendar and my contacts on the iMac have not been syncing on my iPhone and my iPad. My memory says there used to be an "Info" button at the top of the iTunes interface when I had my iPhone or iPad connected to the iMac for syncing. Do not see that button any more? Have been looking and looking for some new way to sync my calendar and my contacts, but have not found anything. This is one of several disappointments with the new iTunes. How do I get my iMac, iPhone, iPad calendars and contacts to sync??
It's been a real pain to have to enter calendar and contact information into all three! My iMac runs on Maverick, my iTunes is 11.1.3, and the iPhone and iPad run on iOS 7.0.4

    Hello Bev76,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like contacts and calendars on your iPad are not being synced to your iPhone 5, but the data syncs from iPhone to iPad.
If you are using iCloud for your contacts and calendars, start with the troubleshooting steps in the "iOS" or "Troubleshooting on iOS devices" sections of these articles:

  • Contacts won't sync from iPhone to Mac Air

I have had an iPhone 5C for the past year with iOS 7.1.2 (the most recent iOS).
I recently purchased a MacBook Air with OS X version 10.9.4.
My issue is that none of my newly created contacts will sync with my Mac's contacts. Every time I go to iTunes to sync my contacts it says my contacts are automatically synced over iCloud, which isn't a problem for me, except it doesn't work... I've checked my iCloud settings. My contacts from all my accounts are supposed to be synced, and yet I am missing about 70 contacts from my Mac contacts. I also tried to turn off Contact sync, and then see no way to manually sync my contacts.
I use both my mac and phone to message people frequently, and its irritating and confusing when I have no idea who I am messaging on my Mac. Does anyone know where I need to start to fix this problem?

    Hello samaras,
if you turned on iCloud Contacts Sync, then you shouldn't use iTunes for syncing your contacts between your devices.
Please make sure that your (the same) iCloud account is set up on all your devices:
iOS: Settings > iCloud > Contacts has to be turned on
Mac: System Preferences > iCloud > Contacts has to be turned on
BTW: Make sure that you saved your contacts in the iCloud section of your address book and not only locally.
For more information regarding setting up iCloud on your devices please see also the following website: https://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/

  • Applications no-longer syncing from iPhone to iTunes

I've had an iPhone 4 since December 2010. Up until a couple of weeks ago it was syncing happily with iTunes and apps purchased/downloaded on the iPhone were transferring over to iTunes every time the phone was connected and a sync initiated. (although, sometimes multiple syncs would be required to make sure all apps transferred; but 'new' apps would appear in the library)
A couple of weeks ago this stopped. I plug the phone in, select "sync" or "transfer purchases from iPhone" -- the progress bar at the top shows "copying [app name]" and goes through the process for all my new apps. It tends to hang on the last one for 20-30 seconds, before moving onto the rest of the sync process.
After the "sync complete" message comes up, I check the library (and the file system) and none of the apps it said it was copying have been transferred. A re-sync or re-transfer of purchases shows it copying the same apps over again -- with the same result; nothing appearing in the library.
I have, therefore, taken to duplicating my downloads in iTunes; if an app is downloaded in iTunes it seems happy syncing that back to the phone (and recognising that the app on the phone is the same as the one in the library).
However, I'm now in a situation where a bunch of apps will not let me download them without re-purchasing. (i.e. I click on them in iTunes and get the "You WILL be charged for this purchase" message rather than the "you've already bought this, download it free")
Apps previously downloaded and in the library transfer back to the phone without problem. It's just that apps downloaded on the phone will not transfer.
I have de-authorised and re-authorised the computer. I have upgraded to the latest versions of the iOS and iTunes (at time of writing that's 4.3.1 and 10.2.1.1). I have cleared sync history. I've deleted and recreated backups. I've turned auto syncing off and on.
I have not tried the following:
    1)uninstalling iTunes and re-installing it
2)syncing the phone with iTunes on a different computer
3)restoring factory settings on the iPhone (surely this would lose me all the applications, including the ones I'm being told I have to re-pay for)
4)deleting my iTunes library (I do have a backup, but, would it let me delete all the apps and then re-import them from my backup? That said, the backup is missing the apps that won't transfer)
With most of these, I've not tried it because "I fear I will lose everything"
As far as I can tell, these problems started occurring when I moved my iTunes library to a removable drive (I have a 180Gb hard drive on my laptop, and coming up to 60Gb of it was being used by iTunes - so I transferred this to a 500Gb removable drive that I make sure I plug in (and has the correct drive letter) prior to starting iTunes or any syncing process)
I've tried resetting the library location to the default -- it made no difference.
While I'm "okay with" buying apps on the computer and then transferring them, it isn't ideal -- or the easiest solution; plus it doesn't sort out the apps that are currently refusing to transfer and are prompting for a re-purchase.
My system is Windows Vista 32bit, 4Gb memory; 500Gb removable drive, 180Gb local hard-drive.
Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

As no-one has anything to add (yet); I'll add that this morning I've updated the iOS version to 4.3.2 (which appeared as available over the weekend); currently I'm still unable to transfer purchases (this includes things that I'd previously purchased, transfered to the phone and updated). Additionally, the first few attempts to sync following the update gave me the "not enought space to sync apps" message -- this is dispite itunes reporting around 0.30GB to 0.70GB prior to the sync attempt, and around 1.5 GB following the failed "not enough space" sync. (Right now I'm running a sync again and it looks like iTunes is reporting a correct/realistic amount of space)
I've not heard anything back from anyone at apple (I flagged the stalling apps in the iTunes app store, which seemed to be the recommended thing to do for apps that were "previously purchased but not available freely to download"); and by the lack of responses here I'm getting the feeling I'm the only one with this problem.
If something simple like deauthorizing iTunes, uninstalling iTunes, rebooting, re-installing and reauthorizing iTunes would fix it (and wouldn't lose any of my music, apps or videos) then I'd be happy to do that. Again, if I could do a factory settings restore on the phone and have it fixed (and I could get apps and in-app content back without a re-purchase) - then I'd be happy to do that too.
If the solution would be to use a new install of iTunes on a different computer (authorized as myself, auto-syncing of devices turned off); and then use a "transfer purchases" to copy all the apps (including the problem ones) to the new library -- then using removable media, transfer them back into my library proper -- well -- I'd do that too (I'm sure I can borrow a work PC for a couple of hours to install/transfer)
My big problem is that I've had no feedback as to whether anything like this would help; whether my purchases would be okay -- and so on. I also don't know why this problem is occuring; is it tied to the problem apps -- if I simply delete them, will the iPhone suddenly start syncing like it used to; or is there someother problem there that I'm not seeing? (As it's now the case that NO apps purchased on the iPhone will transfer, will it simply be the case that all I'll have done is removed a bunch of apps that I can't get back and have the problem still exist?)
    Once again, any ideas?

  • Contacts no longer syncing with iPhone

I am using an iphone and syncing with my macbook laptop with OS 10.6.2. I have it set up to automatically sync my contacts, calendar, notes, and bookmarks when i connect it to the laptop. I have itunes set to manually sync music.
About a week ago, my contacts stopped syncing up. I have not changed any of the settings. Now, if i edit or add a contact to my macbook, it does not show up on my iPhone, and the same thing vice versa. All of the other functions (calendar, notes, etc) are syncing just fine. I tried changing the settings in itunes to not sync the contacts in address book and then changing it back, but no help.
When i plug in the iphone it appears to sync normally but contacts don't sync.
This is driving me crazy. Any help much appreciated.

Can you restore the phone without erasing all the contacts? If so i will do it but I have stuff on there that is not nacked up, ie contacts.

iphoto starts only on background when i want to charge and sync my iphone to the imac and if you click f3 it appears but if you click import al iphoto disappears again to the background so i can't upload fotos

Yes, I'm running ESET NOD32. I've disabled NOD temporarily but it still hangs on Calanders when syncing! Any ideas?
Many thanks. There's a couple of alternatives.
Either try the procedure in Samoreen's post:
Re: iTunes 11.1.4.62 freezes while syncing with Outlook
Or, see if you can get hold of the Eset beta addressing the problem. As Samoreen notes in another post:
ESET have a workaround for this issue. They gave me access to a test version of the HIPS module and this fixed the problem. So I could re-enable the ESET_OPTIONS environment variable (although I still consider that it's a questionable idea). I upgraded to iTunes 11.1.5.5 and there was no problem.
So maybe you should get in touch with ESET support and request the new module ? Just send a message to Marcos in the ESET forum.

  • Contacts wont sync from iphone to imac

    iPhone 4/os5 , imac/OS10.6.8, itunes10.5.1
I am not using mobile me, but prefer to sync manually over the hard wire. Calendars, music and mail are fine. (Mail is over 3G) Data and contacts added on phone do not appear on iMac/main computer. This has not always been aproblem, but has been for past 6- 12 months. I am not really willing to wipe out all contacts on eithe computer, as I update both ways-- I just want the most recent changes to win, no matter where they were added. Isn't this the point of synced devices?
iMac is the 'mother' computer in a house full of networked devices, but won't take new information in from contacts. I know this issue has been bouncing around, but haven't seen aclear answer to my version of it. any tips ?

  • Contacts no longer Sync to iPhone

Until yesterday I never had any problems syncing contacts with my iPhone. Now it doesn't matter what I do, I can't get my contacts to Sync. This problem started after I signed up for .Mac and did my first Sync using .Mac.
I can Sync changes from my iPhone to my AddressBook but not from AddressBook to iPhone. Changes made in AddressBook do not sync to .Mac either.
I have reset Sync data in iSync and tried a number of things that are mentioned here, yet nothing works. I have also reset my phone.
If I delete the AddressBook folder in ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (so that I end up with the default 2 entries), those will Sync to the iPhone. However, restoring from the backup to AddressBook (which does load all my contacts back) will not Sync to the iPhone.
In the log I get the following:
Nov 1 11:43:09 nicolas-cianca AppleMobileDeviceHelper[1360]: exception while performing selector allClients on server: NSInvalidSendPortException [NSMachPort sendBeforeDate:] destination port invalid

Obviously there is an entry in my AddressBook that is causing iSync/.Mac/iTunes syncing to choke, but there is no way to figure out which one. I have 4300+ contacts.

I was able to fix this but only because I have been in the habit of making a regular backup from AddressBook using the File->Export->AddressBook Archive. I got burned by a bug in Mail that would cause Addressbook to wipe out it's database. I reported that bug to Apple and they confirmed it and let me know that they fixed it in Leopard (which they did).
The problem here is that a record is corrupted, but unfortunately there isn't an easy way to determine which record that is. The log only provides the ID (look like this: 50D3999F-489C-4116-8AD2-60109DC8A8D3) which doesn't identify the actual corrupted record and I have too many dirty records to try to isolate the bad one. In my case going to back an older copy was able to solve the problem.
Assuming that this was recently working correctly and you haven't made many changes to existing records, you can try this:
Create a Smart Group and and select "Card" "has changed in" X "day". X would be the number of days you want to display.
Then click on the group and the cards that you have recently entered will appear. This may help you isolate the one that is corrupted. It would be helpful if AddressBook had a means to locate records by ID or at least provide the name of the contact in the logs.
This is a very annoying issue because iSync will fail silently and unless you look at the Console it will appear to be syncing for .Mac and the iPhone (or any other device that uses iSync). I went for 2 days before I realized that my contacts in Addressbook where NOT syncing with my iPhone but those that I entered on the iPhone did sync.

  • Contacts cannot be synced from iPhone to iCloud

Some existing and newly created contacts on the iPhone do not sync to iCloud but at the same time contacts created from iPad will appear quickly on the iPhone.
Why and how to fix it?

Thanks Randers4.  You guess is right!  The Default Account was set to On My iPhone.  I'm sure I set it to iCloud and have no idea why and when it was changed to "On My iPhone".
Now, how can I identify all those contacts stored On My iPhone and move them to the Account iCloud?

    Hi ellie,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  If your iPhone's calendar events are one day behind when synced to your iMac, check the date and time settings on both devices.  Here's how:

Ensure that the version of iOS on your device is up to date.
If the option to enable date and time automatically is available, turn it on. Tap Settings > General > Date & Time.
Ensure that your time zone is set up correctly. Tap Settings > General > Date & Time > Time Zone.
If the incorrect date, time, or time zone is being set up automatically on the device, please notify your cellular provider. In the meantime, tap General > Date & Time and turn off Set Automatically. Then set the appropriate time and time zone manually.
