Contacts not two way syncing?

I seem to be having some trouble with my iPhone's contact list.... contacts made on the phone do not sync back to my macbook. Now I have done considerable searching on this and nothing seems to help. I have already tried unchecking the 'sync contacts' option in iTunes and rechecking it to no avail. I have the new iPhone 3G S and its only about a month old. any ideas?

Before a fellow user here offers you a suggestion that you have already tried without success, what does nothing seems to help include?

  • HT1386 Is there any way to do a two way sync between iphone contacts & outlook on a pc?

I have contacts on my iphone which i keep updated. However, i need these changes to be applicable on outlook as well. I prefer updating contacts on outlook when i have to do it on large scale. I have over 1000 contacts in my iphone. Is there any way by which i can do a two way sync between iphone and outlook on a pc.

Take a look at this article:
iOS: How to transfer or sync content to your computer
    Contacts, Calendars, Bookmarks, and Notes
You can sync contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and notes with other applications on your computer. This allows you keep all your information in sync across multiple computers and iOS devices. The settings for these items are all in the Info tab for your iOS device in iTunes. With your iOS device connected to the computer, select your iOS device. Then click the Info tab.
For details on syncing content on your iOS device with your computer, click the sections below.
    Contacts
To sync contacts with your computer, choose "Sync Contacts with" within iTunes for Windows, or "Sync Address Book Contacts" on your Mac.
You can sync your contacts with:
Microsoft Outlook 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Microsoft Outlook 2010 (Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7)
    Windows Address Book (Windows XP)
Windows Contacts (Windows Vista / Windows 7)
    Address Book (Mac OS X)
Microsoft Entourage 2004, Microsoft Entourage 2008, or Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac
Note: If using Microsoft Entourage, use Microsoft Entourage 2008 12.1.2 or later if syncing with Mac OS X v10.6 or later. If you would like to sync data on your Mac with Entourage, enable syncing between Entourage and Address Book.
    Notes:
When syncing contacts, you can choose to sync all of your contacts or only selected groups. The option to sync selected items may not show up until after the first sync.
You can select a group of contacts to which all new contacts created on your iOS device will be added.
Additional options for syncing include syncing your contacts with Yahoo or Gmail/Google Mail. You will need to configure it with the user name and password for your Yahoo or Google account.

  • How do I set up itunes sync with outlook to "replace information on this iphone" only? I do not want to do a two way sync.

I am tired of fighting sync incompatibilities between Outlook 2007 and I Tunes, and no longer want to do a two-way sync.
I still want my Outlook contacts and calendar on my iPhone and use advanced setup in iTunes to "replace information on this iPhone" only.
iTunes only offers the ability to do this on "the next sync only". Is there a way to set up iTunes to "replace information on this iPhone" every time I connect my phone?

    Hi there Greg,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you want to always replace content on your iPhone 5S with content from Outlook on your PC, to do this you’ll just have to Reset the Sync History in iTunes as shown below.
Troubleshooting Sync Services on Windows with Microsoft Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2010 - Apple Support
    To reset sync history:
    Open iTunes.
From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
    Click the Devices tab.
Click the Reset Sync History button.
If the issue continues and you know all of the data is on the computer:
Reset the Sync History again using the steps above.
Select the device in iTunes and click the Info tab.
Scroll down to the Advanced section, and under "Replace information on this iPhone/iPad/iPod touch" select Contacts or Calendars.
    Click Apply.
    Cheers,
    -Jason

  • IPod Touch "Two-Way Sync"

I am pleased to report that I just returned from a month-long trip throughout Europe and my iPod touch worked like a charm. I bought it prior to departing to use it for mobile internet access as I new I would find WiFi-enabled places everywhere. It enabled me to stay in contact with with friends and family via .Mac e-mail, book guest-houses on-line, share photos with travel companions, not to mention having access to music on the long train rides. In short, a great digital travel tool.
    But here is the question:
I came home and found that while the e-mails that were sent to me (and read on the road on my iPod) were available to read on my MacBook, I was not able to find the e-mails in my Desktops's Send Box that I originally sent from my iPod Touch. I am not sure if I need to set this "two-way" sync up via the iPod touch when I hook it up to my computer via iTunes or is it something I need to arrange on my computer via Systems Preferences?
    Thanks kindly in advance,
    john

    Hi John,
Nope. Messages sent from my iPod Touch do not appear in the Sent folder either on the desktop or the .mac web mail. I am wondering, how do you have System Preferences- .Mac under Sync set up? I just noticed that "Synchronize with .Mac" for me is set on Manually. Perhaps you have it on Automatic? Also, on the iPod itself, I now find that there is a section to set up Sent Messages to be placed in Sent messages on the Server. And you didn't have to do any of this? Seems the Sync was set up for you more readily. Let's see if these adjustments do it for me too.

  • Two Way Syncing - Iphone & Laptop

I am trying to set up a two way sync of my contacts between my Laptop (Microsoft Outllok 2010) and my IPhone 5.
I have very few contacts on my laptop but a lot on my phone
I have got the sync working one way from my laptop to the phone but cannot get it working both ways
    How do i do this?

Success! I think I have gotten to the bottom of this now. With the latest version of Jeffrey Friedl's Flickr plugin you can indeed populate both the sets and groups.
The link provided by Victoria to Jeffrey's blog allows you only to populate the "photostream" collection in the publish services of Lightroom.
However further down in the settings of the jf Flickr plugin there is a part entitled:
"Sync set/group membership for photos already part of this publish service".
It gives a warning about this being beta and undocumented, so to backup catalog before trying.
I did this and synced nearly 7000 photos in Flickr in a lot of sets that it automatically added and located the vast majority of them in my Lightroom library, which contains about 45,000 images. It all took maybe half an hour to run, so it was slow (even with a fast internet connection) but worked! I am a happy camper!
A bonus that I was not looking for but discovered is that this plugin will also sync with Flickr groups.
The version I used is http://regex.info/LightroomPlugins2/releases/flickr-20130324.298.zip
Thanks Victoria and Paige for all of your help

  • TWO WAY Sync is grayed out. Cannot two way synchronize BB.

    Outlook. BB.
When attempting to Configure Synchronization Settings for ASC II importer/exporter, the only options given are ONE WAY Synchronization either to or from the device. The one I want to pick:
TWO WAY Sync is grayed out.
How can I ungray the two way sync to be able to sync my outlook/tasks/address/tasks.
I will synchronization with a USB port, not through a wireless connection.
    Thanks for any help.

Hi, When using software Desktop manager to do a backup and/or restore, I have to disable the wireless syncrhonisation in the blackberry first to enable the 2 ways sync.   Usualy, you can not use wireless  and usb cable sync., so as an example, let`s say you want to sync the adress book. go into your blackberry and into your adress book application and press the "application" button, go into "Options" and change Wireless synchronisation to "No"
After that you should see the 2 ways sync.
When completed, do not forget to put back the wireless synchronisation to "Yes" to enable it back.
    hope that helps.

  • Calender two-way sync

    Hi,
Do we not have two-way sync for ical? Appointments made on the iphone are not x-fered to the computer and then erased from iphone. Anybody have a different outcome??

They are transferred to iCal on your computer when you sync the iPhone - there is a setting as to which calendar unassigned appointments should be put into.
Why would you want the appointments to be deleted from your iPhone once they have been synced with your computer? I think the purpose it to have your calendar on your phone and on your computer. It doesn't take up a whole lot of space on the phone, so you shouldn't have a lot to worry about.
I really don't know how you would be able to sync the calendar without keeping the appointments on your phone. One possibility - don't categorize any appointments if you enter them onto your calendar via your iPhone. Then, when you set the sync settings, do not sync whatever calendar uncategorized appointments are placed into.

  • ICal two way sync by CALDEV?

Hi I've set my google account up to sync with my iCal but I can't see that it is syncing with google calendar, but google calendar is syncing with it. If that makes sense. It's really important that I get the two way sync so I can get my calendar on my phone!
    Help!!!!!

    Hi,
In iCal's Preferences, Accounts tab, when you select the account. What does it say for the 'Refresh calendars:' option?
    Best wishes

  • No Two Way Sync For Notes?

3Gs, latest iTunes and I got a sync message as to a conflict between Mail and the iPhone. One note did indeed have different text than the other but I wanted to keep both...no option and the tool doesn't merge the records. Is this normal? Do the notes only sync one-way and/or can the sync feature not merge two notes that started similarly?

The first line of a note seems to be treated as a file name. You can have multiple notes with the same first line on the iPhone, and it will treat them as separate notes, but telling which is which in the list of notes is difficult. iTunes will sync notes both ways with Mail, but if Mail and the iPhone each have a note with the same first line, but different otherwise, I can see where it might not know what to do. Should it treat them as one note that has been modified, and update the older note, or as two different notes, and copy each to the other device, so you have two notes on each? To be safe, use different first lines.

To make it clear.  My hand held is fine -- I can navigate from CONTACTS to Expenses easily.  BUT My PC screen always showed CONTACTS -- and nothing but.  Now the PC Screen is showing EXPENSES -- and I cannot see a way to get the PC Screen back to show CONTACTS.  Any ideas anyone??

    Hi Prof,
    Thanks for your reply.
I checked that my new phone had the latest software - it does.
I have also had a look at the correspondence in link you suggested. The problem appears to be identical to the one I have. I do use Outlook 2003 on my computer but do not want to sync with my 6500c as I have many Outlook contacts which I do not require on my phone.
BTW My wife also got a new w6500c and she has the same problem - only one contact displays on the Nokia Suite. We have two computers and both have the same problem with both phones.
So it sounds as if there is a flaw in the Nokia Suite.
    Please any further suggestions.

  • Razr and Google calendar not 2-way syncing

    The background...
Just bought the Motorola Razr.  Use Outlook 2007 as my primary calendar, gmail as my primary email.  I interfaced my Outlook calendar with Google Calendar using the free Google Calendar Sync download. Verizon set up the phone when I purchased it and I have my suspicions on it being done correctly.  I have the Google Calendar sync set up to do 2-way syncing.  The initial interface between Outlook, Google Calendar and the Razr seemed to go very well.
    The problem:
When I input into Google calendar or into the Outlook Calendar, it puts works perfectly. When I input into the Razr, nothing goes to either Google Calendar or Outlook.
    My settings:
Accounts: Gmail and Google.  The Google account has books, contacts, gmail, and calendar data and sync all checked.
The calendars I have synced and visible are my Google gmail calendar, US Holidays and Weather.  My Phone calendar is NOT synced, visible.  I had it where the Phone was synced, visible with no difference (I changed it based on other forum suggestions).
The question: What do I have to do to get the phone to sync with Google Calendar?  It should do it automatically.

You need to install Google Calendar sync. Set it up for two way and you will be fine.

  • ITunes for Windows 7 64 bit, Windows Live Mail Contacts not (all?) syncing

I have researched this as much as I can but cannot find a solution.
I had my iPhone 4 synced to my Window Vista Home Premium PC using iTunes just fine until January when the PC motherboard crashed. No data was lost and all contacts have been restored to my new PC with is Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). My contacts are in Windows Live Mail (Windows Contacts) and I'm syncing via iTunes with "Sync Contacts with: Windows Contacts" selected.
However, not all contacts are syncing with my iPhone. In fact, I'm not sure they are syncing at all, although the sync function goes through. It may be that the only ones that sync are those that existed before the new PC (i.e., the Windows Vista contacts which were in Windows Mail). I have created new contacts on both the PC using the new version Windows Live Mail and on the iPhone since the crash, and would like to get them synced up.
    Symptoms:
    1) Some specific contacts on PC are not on the iPhone after multiple sync attempts.
I have so far positively identified one contact that did not sync. It shows in Windows Live Mail under Contacts, however it does NOT show up in my Windows username/Contacts folder!
    2) One Contacts group on PC is not on the iPhone, although two others are (they probably were from before the crash).
I have so far positively identified one group that did not sync. It shows in Windows Live Mail under Contacts groups, however it does NOT show up in my Contacts folder as a .group file!
    3) The same group as #2 also does NOT show up in the iTunes group list under "Selected Groups" on iTunes, but the other two groups do. (I do not use "selected groups" because that disables "all contacts" syncing, but the groups are visible grayed out on the list.)
    4) As a test, I created a new contact on my iPhone, synced, and it shows up now in Windows Live Mail Contacts; it also shows up in my Windows username/Contacts folder.
    5) As a test, I created a new contact in Windows Live Mail and it does NOT show up in my username/Contacts folder. I synced the iPhone again and it does NOT show up on my iPhone contacts.
OK folks, where are these missing contacts going and how can I get them synced??  Thanks!
PS: I have the latest iTunes 10.5.3.3, no updates are available. However, Apple Support/iTunes seems to suggest Windows 7 64 bit either "does not use Windows Contacts" (which seemed quite wrong until I ran the tests above), and also that Windows 7 64 requires iTunes 10.4.1, which I cannot install because I have a later version installed. I would have assumed the correct version installed for my OS when I installed iTunes on the new PC. iTunes runs fine by itself and in coordination with my iPhone other than the above issue.
PPS: This site seems potentially relevant, however is highly technical: http://liveunplugged.wordpress.com/2011/02/04/windows-live-mail-contacts-databas e/
but doesn't help with this problem.

I didn't get any help on this from the forum, but from studying around and experimenting with different approaches, I have come up with the following conclusions:
Under Windows Vista, Windows Mail synced its contacts with Windows Contacts [which are in c:\users\username\contacts]. iPhone via iTunes synced with Windows Contacts. Changes to either Windows Mail Contacts or iPhone contacts would always update each other. Life was good.
Under Windows 7, Windows LIVE Mail (WLM) does NOT sync its contacts with Windows Contacts. It puts them into a hidden database. If you have prior Windows Contacts and brought them along for the ride, they are still there in the folder but they are not connected to the WLM contacts database
When you first set up Windows Live Mail, you can import your Windows Contacts and they appear to be synced. (In fact, they are, but only at that single point in time.)
If you change any Windows Live Mail contact or add a new one, it does NOT change in Windows Contacts. It only changes in the WLM contacts database. It therefore does NOT sync to your iPhone.
Similarly, if you change a contact on iPhone or add a new one, it will sync with Windows Contacts. However, this does NOT update your Windows Live Contacts.
So, from what I can tell, here is what this means: to maintain a steady state, you have two choices:
Whenever you update or add a contact, add it in either iPhone or Windows Contacts [the Windows Contacts folder has a "New Contact" button], and they will stay in sync with each other. Then manually update or add it in Windows Live Contacts to keep those up to date so you can use them for e-mail.  OR
Whenever you update or add a contact, add it in either iPhone or Windows Contacts, and they will stay in sync with each other. DO NOT manually update Windows Live Contacts, but realize they are not always up to date. If an address needed for an e-mail is not in there, manually retrieve it from your Windows Contacts or your iPhone and insert it into the e-mail. [Having done that, you can right click on the address in the e-mail and add it to your WLM contacts if you want.] Periodically, manually delete all of your Windows Live Mail Contacts and then re-import your Windows Contacts into Windows Live Mail and, voila, your contacts are in sync again! (Isn't that great, I mean really awful??)
NOTE: If you follow course #2, DO NOT import your Windows Contacts into Windows Live Mail contacts without deleting your existing Windows Live Mail contacts, or you will end up with a double set plus the new ones.
FURTHER NOTE: I obviously can't make any guarantee you won't lose data if you follow course #2. Be sure you have a complete backup before deleting your WLM contacts. However, I will say that after experiencing a double set of WLM contacts (by failing to understand the first NOTE above), it was impossible to pick out the new items [WLM will now show you the date of entry or modification of the contact, so you can't sort by date], so I deleted all of them and re-imported my Windows Contacts and had a complete set again.
AND ONE FINAL NOTE: I have not tested how any of this affects Windows Live Contacts used online outside of Windows Live Mail, because I do not use Windows Live online.
Please post further comments if you have any more information on this topic.

  • Two way sync

I just got an iphone 5, i successfully sync'ed my address book from my Mac book pro but when i am on the road adding numbers, contacts or just updating contact info to the iphone they do not get updated on my mac book when i get home... what to i need to do to get both apple products to perform a 2 way sync ?
    Thanks for the help

    Hi Yakman,
As long as you are running iTunes 11, you should be able to set up OTA syncing with your iPhone 5. You have to hook you iPhone up to your computer initially to set it up, but once set up, you can sync whenever you like via Settings>General>iTunes Wifi Sync.
Just make sure you have checked all of your settings for the Device sync in iTunes, then set it up to do a Wifi Sync (you do this in iTunes under the Device when it is hooked up to the computer).
Here is a link to a support article with instructions on how to set up the Wifi sync:

  • Two-way syncing of Lightroom with Flickr?

I've been using Lightroom with Flickr for a long time. Some degree of two-way synchronization between the Flickr plugin (the Adobe one that comes with Lightroom) and Lightroom is possible. For instance coomments are downloaded to Flickr. However there are some strong limitations on this plugin:
    (1) Problems arise if you have a lot of Flickr photo sets then you may not want to keep all of them listed in Lightroom but you may want to update them after you post them to Flickr. For instance if you discover an error in a name or want to retouch a photo. This is especially the case if you move to a new computer or do a major upgrade and lose the photo sets listed in the plug in.
    (2) If you import photos from another library where you have set up a Flickr album then that album does not get imported to Lightroom in the Flickr publish module. The connection to Flckr is lost!
I'm in no way suggesting using Flickr as a backup but it would be useful to be able to link to existing albums in Lightroom and to locate existing files in the current library or list them as missing so that republishing is then possible. If anybody knows a way of doing this then please reply.
Currently I'm using Lightroom 4.3 on a Windows 7 PC.
    Thanks
    Marcel

  • IOS5 Reminders not 2-way syncing back to Outlook

I've got IOS5 on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. I have Outlook connected to Exchange on the PC. The iPhone and iPad are working great talking to the Exchange server. The new reminders flow down from the Outlook Tasks to the Reminders on the iPad and the iPhone.
However, the problem is that reminders created on the iPhone and the iPad DON'T flow / sync up to Outlook.
So, it's a one-way sync down from Exchange to the IOS5 devices and no sync back up to Exchange/Outlook.
    Ideas? What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    David

Sue, thank you for your response. I think I’ll have to give up on this as I can’t find any reference to syncing Reminders in iTunes, on my iPhone 4 (running iOS6.0.1) or on my PC (running Outlook 2007).
Just to clarify, on my iPhone, when I select/expand a Reminder, the option of “Show More”, just above the bottom “Delete” option, only changes to “Notes”.
I think the key here is that I don't use Exchange... it's only a simple home system at present. I'll look into it further. Again, thanks for your reply.
    Cheers.
