Contacts ok on mac & iphone, but missing in icloud

Something strange happened. My contacts on Mac and iPhone are the same but on the icloud website some are missing. I think the most recent added after I updated to Mountain Lion are missing. But I am not 100 percent if this did not already happen before.
So contacts created on the mac show up on the iphone but NOT on the icloud site
Contactes created on the iphone show up on my mac but not on the iphone website
And groups to which I added contacts on the mac show up twice on my iphone, one old group with the contact not added and one new group with the contact added. On my mac I have only one version of that group.
On the iphone website the group is the old one with no added contacts.
Any idea what to do except back up frequently and archive my contacts every day?

I'd wait. iCloud (or parts of it) seems to be down today (check the other icloud forums for more posts on email problems). Perhaps your problem is due to the down servers. The day may come back - check for posts that claim iCloud is back up.

But if that person did not set up an iMessage account on their iPhone, then they cannot receive any iMessages at all, only SMS text messages.
Both the sender and the recipient must have an iOS device with an active iMessage account.
There is nothing you can do about it, other than ask them to set up iMessage on their device (which if they don't want to, is their choice).

Only contacts added to the iCloud group will sync with iCloud. To make this your default, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...scroll down to the Contacts section and tap Default Account. Here, choose iCloud as your default. After doing so, new contacts will be added to iCloud and sync with your iCloud account.

Contacts appearing twice on iPhone but not on iMac

When I update my contacts on my iPhone 4S (with iCloud), the contacts appear twice (the same doesn't happen on my iMac). If I try to delete one contacts, it deletes both... The same happens also to the groups.
Can anyone help? I guess it must be something to do with syncing, but I don't know how to sort it.

Go to Settings>Mail, etc>iCloud>Delete account. It'll ask you if you want to keep Contacts, stored on your iPhone. Say no, then reinstate your iCloud account.
That should sort it out.

In iTunes, did you click your iPhone under "devices" then go through the tabs to set things up? There's one setting that you need to check to sync contacts.

Contacts are not on my iPhone but are on iCloud?

So my dad and I switched iTunes accounts earlier this year and he is gearing up to buy a new phone. Well low and behold we cannot find his contacts on his actual phone but we can on his iCloud... the problem is it still thinks it is my iCloud, so if we try and change it, the contacts will disappear. how do I go about putting a hard copy of his contacts on his phone instead of the cloud for his phone switch? Please help!

I suspect you are syncing to both itunes and icloud. With the right settings you will get duplicates.

Maiden name field in contacts not showing on iPhone or iPad or iCloud

I've changed my contacts template, on my iMac, to include the "maiden name" field, years ago... And to this date that field STILL does not show on my other Apple devices; iPhone or iPad or iCloud. Am I missing something or does Apple continue to not include some of THEIR "Std" fields on the ios devices or on iCloud?

I just talked to Apple Support, after upgrading to ios7...and testing more with the maiden name field...
There reply was that the "Mainden Name" field is unique to OS X Contacts, and is no plans to bring it forward. I also just noticed that if a edit a contact that has this field on ios7 (the field doesn't show) and it syncs back via iCloud to my iMac...it wipes out the maiden name info!!!
I did notice that the new ios7/iCloud have several new/additional "relationship" fields, ie Spouse (which has been there) but now Mother, Father, etc....
Sooo... I guess I'll use the Father field to hold the maiden name info... works for me... :-)

Why are the contacts on my MAC not shown in the icloud contacts?

I have some 100 + contacts on my Mac Book Pro application and am 'connected' to icloud but I do not see any of the contacts? equally the Calendar application in icloud does not show all my clendars that I hve on the Mac Book Pro.

Open System Preferences. Then access the iCloud tab. Make sure you are signed in with the correct account and have Contacts and Calendars checked.

Shared calendars are showing up on iPad and iPhone but not on iCloud or her new MacbookAir, any suggestions?

iCloud doesn't backup email accounts.
iCloud provides an optional email account that syncs between all your devices.
iCloud does nothing at all for external non-iCloud email accounts.

Missing Contacts and Calendar on iPhone - but still in MobileMe

Hi all
Hopefully some one can help me, I just restored my phone and signed into MobileMe in the settings, but the phone refuses to Sync my contacts and calendar, Ive manually synced them from Itunes, but its really annoying that its not syncing from the cloud, anyone else had this problem and know a fix ?
Ive tried formatting and restoring again, but still no joy, Ive installed the latest update and still no joy ?
Help me obi'wan iPhone community your my only hope ?

and sync the data from my Mac TO MobileMe. This overrides the data on the server with the data on the Mac. Now the iPhone syncs fine.

I have all of my contacts on my new iPhone, but none in my address book on my mac, and I can't get them to sync. Can someone help?

I had a bunch of junk entries in the address book on the mac, so I never synced the 2 when I had an iPhone 3GS. I got an iPhone 4 and even after deleting everything in the bunk address book, wasn't able to sync the iPhone 3GS's contacts (it had them all under a group for my my expired MobileMe account). So I got the iDrive Contacts app and back them up out there then ported them down to the new iPhone 4.
Confusing yet?
So now I have all of my contacts on the new phone (whew!) but I still can't get them into my address book on the mac. What in the world am I doing wrong?

Connect your iPhone 4 to your Mac. iTunes should open. Look on the left, you should see "Kim's iPhone" or something similar. Click on it. Then look at the top of the iTunes window, click on "Info". You can tick the box to sync your contacts from here. There are also options to sync with the cloud, with MobileMe, Google, Yahoo, etc, which allow automatic wireless syncing. Be careful here though, it's very easy to accidentally duplicate your contacts!

TS4147 My contacts show on my iphone but not in my outlook.

Last week i noticed that I had mistakenly activated my icloud and realized no contact information was physically on my iphone. Looking at the information on the icloud showed that all my information resided there in full. I wanted to have my icloud shut off and to backup on my computer. The contacts were manually pushed to my phone while the problem was investigated. I was called back the next day and walked through the steps necessary to allow my computer to be the source of backing up my data. I noticed, several days later, that I had duplicates of all my contacts. I manually deleted each duplicate entry on my I phone. In addition, I updated information on 8 entries. Now, only the eight entries that I updated show in my Outlook. However all contacts are correct on my iphone.
I have tried to turn on the icloud to allow my contacts to be synced. I even went into my icloud account to update the contact information was correct. My itunes states my contacts are synced via the icloud but the information is not populating the Outlook. I want to make sure this information shows so I can finally shut down my contacts via icloud and use just my computer.

I have lots of iPhone contacts but only have one contact that when I send them an iMessage it sends as a text message instead how do I fix or is it on there end?

You both have to have iMessages turned on, you both have to be on iOS 5.0 or higher and you both have to be on an official carrier
oh and you both have to be on 3G or wifi
if one of you doesnt have 3G or wifi at the time then it will send as a text message
I don't have a 3G data plan so my iMessages only send over wifi, and when an iphone is asleep the wifi turns off so I receive iMessages as text messages, but when my wifi is connected it works perfectly

Gmail Mail/Contacts/Calendar Functioning with iPhone But Not iPad

I recently purchased an iPad Mini and input my "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" settings the same exact way as they are in my iPhone...
o Exchange account
o E-mail address is "[X]@gmail.com"
o Server is "m.google.com"
o Domain is left blank
o Username is "[X]@gmail.com"
o Password is correct
o Use SSL is turned on
o S/MIME is turned off
Nevertheless, when I launch the Mail app in my iPad Mini, I get the message "Cannot Get Mail: The connection to the server failed". Similarly, my contacts and calendar data haven't synced at all. I'm not having this issue on my iPhone so am a bit bewildered as to why I'm encountering it on the iPad.
Anyone know what's going on here? Thanks in advance!

Google discontinued Exchange support for free Gmail accounts as of 30 January 2013. Devices that were already set up wiht it will continue to work. However, as you've discovered, attempts to set it up on a new device will not. You will need to set up the account as a regular Gmail account.
To sync your contacts, you need to add a CardDAV account as well:
