Contacts on my Mac won't sync via iTunes or iCloud onto my 4

Hi, writting this for my Dad. He's recently brought a mac and an iphone 4 for use in his business. He's uploaded all his contact information on contacts on the mac from a Yahoo email account and also off old phones ect...
iCloud settings are set to share contacts etc... but only a handful of the contacts are actually on the iphone. When you look in the contacts settings it seems that the iCloud option isn't showing. I've tried to go down the route of logging out of iCloud etc... but as it starts to threaten to delete data from the mac we're not inclidned to go down this route.
After buying a mac to make working life easier, it's been nothing but a pain so hopefully someone can help him out before he bins it and turns windows back on...

Contacts 'On My Mac' are (as the name suggests), On your Mac, not on iCloud. Move them to the iCloud account and they will then be on iCloud (and thus on the iPhone 4)

  • Notes & Reminders Sync via iTunes ( no iCloud )

    Hello!
So, i have limited access to internet, therefore i can't use iCloud on daily bases. Actually I barely use it. Im looking out for a way to sync the apps Reminders and Notes (in my iPhone with iOS 8) to my Mac using just iTunes, no iCloud. Is there a way to do this?
    Thanks in advance

It sounds like Notes may be easier than reminders ...
Here's the pertinent section of the iPhone iOS 6 User Guide discussing Notes.  I included the iCloud section FYI, but the section below it pertains to your situation:
Use iCloud to keep your notes up to date on your iOS devices and Mac computers:
If you use a me.com or mac.com email address for iCloud: Go to Settings > iCloud and turn on Notes.
If you use a Gmail or other IMAP account for iCloud: Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and turn on Notes for the account. Choose the default account for new notes: Go to Settings > Notes.
Create a note in a specific account: Tap Accounts and select the account, then tap to create
the note. If you don’t see the Accounts button, tap the Notes button first.
See only notes in a specific account: Tap Accounts and choose the account. If you don’t see the Accounts button, tap Notes first.
Delete a note while viewing the list of notes: Swipe left or right across the note in the list.
Here's the analogous section from the Reminders chapter:
Keep your reminders up to date on other devices: Go to Settings > iCloud, then turn on Reminders. To keep up to date with Reminders on OS X Mountain Lion, turn on iCloud on your Mac, too. Some other types of accounts, such as Exchange, also support Reminders. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and turn on Reminders for the accounts you want to use.
So the bottom line is you should be able to synch your notes and reminders when you do an iTunes sync with your iPhone and/or iPad.  But if you haven't done so already, you'll have to set up notes as well as reminders in one of your non-iCloud accounts and make sure all your three devices look to the same account for its information.  Of course, you won't get instantaneous updating as you would with iCloud, but I think you're not seeking that anyway.
    I hope this helps.

  • All my contacts are gone and won't sync up with cloud

After I installed mountain lion on my Mac book pro . My contacts have disappeared and won't sync up from iCloud .
They are on my other devices and on the c.loud

I am having the exact same problem.  Not only will the contacts not sync, but when contacts is open, it slows down the ENTIRE computer.  I installed Mountain Lion last night and the contacts list is the only thing that I have spotted that is having a problem.  I even tried exporting the vCards from the iCloud website and contacts still won't accept it.  I hope they come out with something to fix this quick.

  • Contacts won't sync between iTunes 8.0.1 and iPhone

Having had a few issues with syncing contact over the air and then they disappear I have decided to sync via iTunes.
I first sync'd to a factory reset iPhone which worked fine. However all subsequant syncs where I have Sync Contacts turned on results in the sync process going on for hours until I quit the sync.
If I do not select Contacts to sync the sync process for music etc works fine. As soon as I turn Sync Contacts on then the status window just shows 'syncing contacts with iphone' but nothing seems to be happening.
Any ideas what is going on and how to sort it?

    Hi Dewi,
Make sure your iPhone is directly connected to your Mac and not plugged into a hub.
Try Resetting the Sync History in the iSync applications preferences.

If the issue persists try removing and re-creating the Sync Services folder after stopping the service as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627

    Hi vichochile,
If you are having an issue with syncing your new iPhone with the information that is in iCloiud (and on your other devices) we should make sure that iCloud is set up correctly on the iPhone. See this page for directions -

My contacts on my iPhone won't sync to iCloud. Any suggestions??

  • My ipod classic 120GB won't sync to itunes

I have updated itunes and un-installed and re-installed it multiple times but I've had no luck. I have deleted all the content off of my ipod but it still won't sync to itunes, any help please? I have spent hours trying to find a solution but I feel as if I should give up now, has anyone got any advice?

You iPod looks ok, except for the Pending Sector of 8,  and the high Start Stop numbers.
What is the iPod Software as shown in the Itunes summary page in your Mac?
    My Suggestions
Try the Hard Reset first, it worked for some people,
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Disconnect the iPod from the Mac
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
Then try to connect and see it iTunes recognised it.
Also note that when you sync an iPod, do connect it directly to the body of the Mac, and not via any USB Hub or the keyboard USB hub. Also do not use any other USB devices.
    Good Luck!

  • My iPhone 4 won't sync with iTunes.

My iPhone 4 won't sync with iTunes
I am running iTunes 11.1.5.5, and my phone is using iOS 7.1
Windows 8 recognizes that the phone is connected, and even asks if I would like to download pictures, however iTunes will not.
So far, I have stopped and restarted AMDS, iTunes, my laptop, and the iphone. None of these have had any success. I've tried using a different cable, but the results were the same. The phone can download songs via its own iTunes app, but cannot sync with iTunes on the laptop.
How can I get my phone to start syncing with iTunes again? This problem occurs sparatically, sometimes syncing and sometimes ignoring the phone altogether, like it is now.

Does your Mac meet the requirements for the latest version of iTunes?
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor and 512MB of RAM
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    Safari 4.0.3 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
In the future, you're more likely to get faster, more appropriate responses by posting to the correct forum.  The iPhone Hardware forum is not the correct place to be posting issues regarding iTunes on your Mac.

  • IPod won't sync to iTunes - Please help! Tried everything

My iPod won't sync to iTunes. I pug it into the computer, the computer recognizes the device. It automatically opens iTunes once it's plugged in. I was able to system restore via iTunes when the iPod was connected and it wiped the iPod. But when I hit sync it doesn't sync. When I hit the sync button for about 5 seconds the wheel will rotate on the iPod screen and say "syncing" but nothing happens on the iTunes side, (you know normally when your iPod is syncing at the top of the iTunes window it will say "syncing" and you can see the process happening as it quickly runs through the new music it is uploading, this doesn't happen.) I tried restarting the iPod and the computer, system reset, I checked in the control panel to make sure the apple device was started, (which it was,) and even bought a new sync cord to be sure. Nothing. Any ideas?

I was running into the same/similar problem. Is this a new computer but old ipod?  In other words, does your ipod contain music from a previous pc?  If so, that might be the problem.  I bought a new pc and adequately transferred my music from old pc to new pc.  My itunes library on new pc was where I wanted it to be.  But when I tried to sync my ipod later, it wouldn't sync.  Would stop at first step like yours was doing.
If this is the case with you, open your ipod information on itunes.  It will automatically be on "Summary".  Click on "Music".  You will see a box labeled "Sync Music".  Click on that box.  Then you have the option of checking "Entire Music Library" or "Selected playlists.....".  I chose entire library.  When you sync, it will warn you that you will be erasing contents of ipod and replacing with contents of this itunes library.  Like I said, my library was good.  So I chose ok.  It synced fine after that.

  • PLEASE APPLE, GIVE US SYNCING VIA ITUNES BACK!!!!!! Why take away one of the most valuable features of iTunes???? Why take away our choice of syncing via the Cloud or locally with iTunes????

DO NOT UPGRADE TO MAVERICK UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE DEPENDED ON APPLE’S CLOUD. It removes the ability to sync Calendar, Notepad, and Contacts between your apple devices. You then can only sync them via Apple’s Cloud. For those of you like me, that do not want to be depended on an external data base accessible via the Internet or Cel Phone (with data charges).
Why do I not want to use the Cloud to sync and backup?
    1. I found I only have one device with me at a time or am sitting at a computer when I add to my calendar, make a note, or add/change a Contact. Syncing with iTunes while upgrading apps and doing a back up to two external hard drives worked great and met my needs.
    2. I use WiFi and pay for the minimum data plan with my Cel provider (AT&T). I do not want to pay higher monthly data fees.
    3. I do not like a central data base (that will be hacked someday) having the personal info I have in my Notes, Schedule, and Contacts.
    4. I like the security of my most important data being on my own hard drives and written off to Data DVD’s, not subject to even rare central system outages/failures.
    5. I do not like the prospect of becoming dependent on a Cloud in which the provider could decide at any time to either start selling information or charging monthly fees to recover the costs of providing the cloud.
I am reluctant to go to the trouble to go back to 10.8 because Apple will eventual stop providing updates to 10.8 and 10.8 compatible applications.
PLEASE APPLE, GIVE US SYNCING VIA ITUNES BACK!!!!!! Why take away one of the most valuable features of iTunes???? Why take away our choice of syncing via the Cloud or locally with iTunes????

You will need to contact Apple through their feedfack channel. These are user to user forums, sorry.

  • I have an iPod Touch 3rd gen and while it is recognized by my laptop with Win 8.1, it won't sync with iTunes.

I have an iPod Touch 3rd gen and while it is recognized by my laptop with Win 8.1, it won't sync with iTunes.  It worked fine while my laptop had Win 8 but after the update, it quit syncing.  Strange though, I downloaded an app directly to my iPod and when I connected it to my laptop again (for recharging if nothing else), iTunes updated itself by including the new app.  I also tried syncing wirelessly.  Also unsuccessful.  I'm about ready to change to an alternate to iTunes if I can't get this situation fixed.  Anyone else have this problem and/or a solution?

  • IPhone won't sync with iTunes.  Help?

iPhone won't sync with iTunes. It just says, "waiting for sync to start." But no matter how long I leave it like that, it never syncs.  Wirelessly or via USB.  I have restarted both my computer and my phone.  I have deleted and reinstalled iTunes. I have installed the latest version of iTunes and the software on my phone is up to date.  Nothing seems to work.
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

I found this on another thread --
Keep your iphone connected. Quit iTunes. Reopen iTunes. Sync begins automatically. It worked for me and several others who had already followed the advice.
    So easy.
