Contacts showing as offline when they're online.

Title says it all but today I was chatting with a friend and bam all my contacts go offline some say away but the majority says offline I tried uninstalling and re installing. Tried changing status everything. Is anyone else having this problem? And how do I fix it?

Nothing works anymore as it should with contact status.

IChat shows me offline when I am online?

I hope someone can help me. I am running Lion with latest combo update. I used to log in as a .mac address to iChat but friends of mine are saying that the last week or so I have been showing as offline. I can still talk to them on iChat though. I today tried the same name with the .me extension and I show as online. The buddies obvioulsy have to be re added.
A freind of mine has the same issue with his AOL account. I was wondering if this is a Lion update issue? I have deleted the .plist files and such that have been suggested in other posts. It has run on this macbook for years with no issues until the last week or so, not sure exaclty when I was starting to show as offline.

This can depend on where your and the name you have are in relation to each other and the end cycle of MobileMe.
I will try to make this clear.
Any @mac.com name will work in iChat as a Valid AIM Screen Name (Original Trial account, Paid for account or Lasped account)
AT the launch of MobileMe any @mac.com could be linked to the new @me.com name that you were given if you had a Paid for account.
For Mail Purposes the names were/are interchangeable but for Logging into AIM they are two different names.
(they were/are linked for Apple ID purposes using the same Password and being able to acces the same Apple areas (iTunes, Apple Discussions etc.) )
Since June 2011 MobileMe has been in a sort of run-down mode.
Some of the services have already disappeared but the final Paid For accounts will run out in June this year (2012 for late readers)
People are being encouraged to set up iCloud Names (which also end @me.com)
These can be linking other Apple IDs (non @mac.com and @me.com names) to the new iCloud Issued @me.com name.
So...
Adding an @me.com name to iChat is in fact adding new Screen Name (it will have no Buddies until you add them)
I have noticed myself that older @mac.com names I have (I have set up trial accounts in the past) show up in iChat as MobileMe IDs.
It is the same in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calendars

The Orange arrow and text shows wrong icon for an @mac.com account
The Red shows a Jabber account identified as a MobileMe account.
For some reason the Green has a misnamed account (it read @me.com in the details when it is in fac an @mac.com name)
Deleting the com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist should get ichat to refresh the Login to AIM when you restart iChat (it is this action that recreeates the .plist).
This in turn shoould change the Status setting as iChat then defaults to being "Available".
One reason that this might not happen is s second Login.
Second computer, same iChat/AIM details.
Different Mac User account on your Computer using the same AIM/iChat Account details.
Different App on your computer.
Logging in via AIM Express or AIM AV on line in any browser on Computer or phone.
(once this is done, leaving the page will not log you out and a default Login period takes over - it is 2 weeks !!)

GW V2.0.4 shows user offline when they are really online?

I have just upgraded our GW messenger from V1 to V2.0.4. I have just one issue with one user(A). user(A) has user(B) added to her contact list but user(B) shows offline even when user(B) is online. I have no problems talking to user(B) nor does anyone else. User(B) also shows that user(A) is online but not vice versa. User(A) always has to wait for user(B) to start a conversation. I have tried deleting, adding user(B) for user(A), i've uninstalled/reinstalled the client and have had no luck. I know something like this was posted a while back but I was wondering if anyone has any ideas/suggestions or even the answer for the fix?

HP AIO Remote shows wireless printer offline when it is online and can print to it.

HP AIO Remote installed on my Windows 8.1 Yoga 2 shows my wireless printer is offline, when it is online and I can print to it wirelessly. How can I get it to recognize my wireless printer is online wirelessly? AIO Remote will only recognize the printer is online when the USB in connected to the Yoga 2.

Thank you for the additional information. I apologize for misunderstanding. I just want to confirm that the HP AiO app that you downloaded onto your Windows 8.1 computer is showing your printer as offline when you are able to print wirelessly to the printer.
I have two different documents for you. The first one is How to Use the HP AiO Remote App for Windows 8. It has a FAQ section at the bottom of the document with trouble shooting steps. I have also included the Supported Printers for the HP Scan and Capture App.
If the above documents don’t assist you, would you please let me know which make/model/product number of HP printer that you have? How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

WOT and Webutation is showing as disabled when they are not

WOT and Webutation is showing as disabled when they are not .The icons show,but no color on icons. Says WOT is disabled when its not. Also the same on Webutation. Tried uninstalling then reinstalled both and the same thing happened. Tried Wot on another users account and theirs work. Can someone help me on these issues?

ED is generally considered to be 576p or 480p, but this is not universally accepted and these resolutions are often accepted as HD also. Additionally an ED signal uses non square pixels just as SD does so the horizontal pixel dimensions should be no more than 720. Exactly how the tv would treat these resolutions I don't know (yet).
If you have a copy of the source code for the function that displays the HD icon, please post it so I can take a look at it.
Why should I have such a copy and why is it relevant. The issue here is that the OP believes his video is incorrectly labelled HD which is not the case. There may or may not be anomalies in the way the tv attributes the HD label to some files (although it isn't the case for me), however the OP has incorrectly converted his source video and they are no longer SD, they are also not ED by whichever definition you wish to apply and any such anomalies should they exist are not responsible for the OP's files being labelled HD.

Try to restore your iphone via iTunes or update to ios6.1.2.
If itunes gives an error with restoring (DFU/Recovery or just normal)
try this:
open your computer and search on windows; C://windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
open up the hosts file in note pad you will see IP adresses and more add another line and put in this:
#74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
this is a by-pass to the cydia/saurik restore server, it has nothing to do with jailbreaking over voiding apple's warranty

I located some suggestions for flushing the cache.
There are really three ways you can flush the DNS cache on your iPad.
1) Simply turn the iPad off and on again using the power button. A simple reboot will go a long way.
2) Turning on Airplane mode and then turning it off again will also clear the DNS cache and should be enough to fix the problem. Tap on your Settings icon, then swipe Airplane mode to On and then back off. Since Airplane mode disables the wireless features of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to comply with airline regulations, this will generally do the trick.
The third method would reset all your network settings and I'm pretty sure you don't want to do that right now.

How do you get a contact's photo to show full-screen when they call?

A friend sees a large full-screen photo of some of his contacts when they call. I only see a small round circle with the name next to it? Is there a setting that makes this happen? Both of us on 5c iPhones with OS 8.

I've just solved it through Apple, but want to share the answer for others. Even with ALL of the near-seamless syncing between my Mac, iPad and iPhone, the only way you get a full screen photo of the person calling your iPhone is if you've assigned a photo ON YOUR PHONE to that contact in your iPhone's contacts app. Doesn't matter that Mac's "contacts" already has a photo that you assigned there before. That photo will only show up as the small round mugshot next to the caller ID UNLESS you duplicate the action of assigning the contact with another photo that's in your phone's collection of shots to the contact's listing in iPhone's "Contacts" app.

On OS 5, the contacts with international format do not show the names when they call me. any idea why?

I have updated my Iphone 4 software to OS5, and since then the names of the people who call me stopped to appear and only their number is showing. after checking, i found out that the contatcs whom local phone number is saved in an international format are affected by this problem. if i save them without the country code, then their names appear.
Also, some non local numbers that are saved in the format of 00966--------- instead of +966 ------- are also not showing the name of my contact when they call me.
any idea about this knowing that the older OS version didn't have an issue with this?

This is the same problem I have. I thought it was my phone only, but now I realize it is a common thing. I hope they release a fix to this, as they did in 2007 & 2007 when 3G was released. Will be waiting and good luck to us all.

Images showing offline when they are not - sequence plays fine

I'm using FCE 4.0 and when I open a project that I've been working on for weeks, some of the pictures in one of my directories are showing as offline.
When I go into that bin and click on an offline photo, it shows me the thumbnail and I some of the other pictures which are offline are now visible and other previously visible pictures are now showing offline.
I can play the entire sequence and everything is available and plays fine. I just can't see the photos to add them to my project.
any thoughts?

Maybe I am stupid but if you delete the imagefolder, it will be gone. You can set your default imagefolder: goto Media-> Camera-> Settings-> Use Memory-> Card. You can also backup your card to PC, reformat the card in your phone, because it makes default maps for images, video, audio,.........and then copy your images back to the specific folder.

PS 10 flagged my photos offline when they haven't moved

Photoshop 10 suddenly has flagged all of my photos as "offline". They have not moved from my J drive. Catalog manager shows the catalog as being on the J drive. However, individual photo properties now show them on the F drive. I have not moved anything. I don't even have an F drive. How do I get Photoshop to understand that the photos are still on the J drive?

Before jumping to a conclusion, let's see your questions:
Why are there 3 records in the Volume table? All of my photos are under a single directory in Windows.
Each time you 'enter' media files in a catalog, the organizer reads the info in Windows explorer to find and record - the drive identification - the full path on that drive - the type of the drive. An internal identifier in the database is created if that drive is not already known. All recorded drives stay in the table, even if the media files are deleted from catalog. By default, the organizer creates two entries in the table even if you don't enter any media. One is of the type database_relative_drive; if no media is present, there is a 'dummy' entry type no_drive.
If you have two drives with the same letter and different serial number or type, they will have separate entries... and the organizer won't know how to interpret the data. That may happen in various situations : you know that if you have a F: external drive and you plug-in other thumb drives before, the Explorer will assign it another letter; or you may have a 'cloned' drive from a drive previously in your computer with another serial number. So, in your case, I can't know why there are 3 records. A screenshot of your volume_table might help.
Is the catalog db fully normalized? That is, is the entry in the Volume table the only place that has metadata about the physical device used for the storage of the photos?
Yes. The record in the volume table is identified by its internal 'id' field.
You can verify that in the media_table : each record (for each media file) show the field 'volume_id' which corresponds with the abobe 'id'. There is no other place to see a drive letter or drive serial number.
What steps do I take to get the PSE Catalog Manager to recognize an existing catalog file? I do not understand the difference between “new” and “convert”.
In your volume_able you should have a record in which:
- the 'id' is the internal drive identifier (the one present in each record of the media_table, as indicated above)
- the drive letter used by the explorer
- the serial number of the drive you have found via the DOS vol command in decimal.
- the type 'built-in drive'
Of course, you should not have twice the same letter or serial, you should delete unwanted duplicated records. All this can be made from the sqlite manager.
The button 'new' creates an empty catalog
The button 'convert' is used if your files and catalogs have not been moved, but you have installed a newer Elements version. The old catalog is read and a converted copy is created.
You are now able to correct the catalog (rather a copy of the catalog not to run any risk) to reflect the present situation. I would not bother now to move the media files or change the drive letter, I would create a working catalog; the rest can be done afterwards when everything is working and you are able to create a backup from the catalog manager.
Modify the last record in the Volume Table:
ID same as existing to maintain referential integrity with other tables.
Description: I will enter “C:”
Serial: the VOL gives the serial as “BAAC-DC6B”. I should enter “47788-56427”. (Should I enter without the hyphen? That is, enter “4778856427”?)
Drive-path-if-built-in: I will enter “C:”
Type: I will enter “builtin-drive”
Use Catalog Manager to point PSE to the catalog now on the C drive. Should I move the catalog to the “default” location? Where is that?
Hopefully by moving to a more traditional configuration I will minimize the potential for confusing PSE (not to mention myself).

You must keep only one good record and delete the wrong duplicates.

- to open the organizer with the new catalog on C, simply double click the catalog.pse10db file. The catalog manager will remember the location.
- A catalog (or catalog copy) will work independently from the location of its folder. You can move the folder as you wish. If you want it to be on the default location, simply use the 'move' button in the catalog manager and choose 'accessible to all users' instead of 'custom'.
Once again, you don't run risks in working with a catalog copy. And even if we don't know the reason of the database corruption, the important thing is to get the catalog working.

since i have started using lightrtoom cc with photoshop 2014 my photo seems to loose colour quality when they are posted online. they look good on my mac but not online. this is an issue i've been having since stared using the new lightroom. help please

i normally edit my photos in photoshop only but now i've stared using the lightroom cc. I start editing in lightroom then carry on in photoshop. after that i save as a JPEG file. when i look at the photo on the Mac it looks great but when it's on the online portal it looks like the colours faded. For some copyright issues i won't be able to post any photos as they are for clients

Imacs go offline when they sleep

Hi,
I have 11 intel imacs and use ARD to admin them but when they sleep they seem to sever the network connection resulting in a communication error when I try to remotely wake them. Also I wanted to look into the use of them as Logic Pro nodes for our main studio G5 but as they sleep the nodes get disconnected.
Anyone know how to disable the network sleep?

As mentioned, your network connection will be dropped when your Macs sleep. There are utilities out there like Wake550 that will allow you to wake your Macs over the network. I have never used it, but have heard good things about it.
