Contacts Suddenly Refusing To Sync

I've had a virtually flawless iPhone experience until now. My phone syncs everything but my contacts. An error box comes up telling me "contacts could not sync due to iPhone being disconnected". This is of course not true and I did check connections and have tried several times. It will sync my photos, music, podcasts, etc. It just refuses my contacts.
I'm kind of at a loss.
Thanks for your help.
Steve

This article (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305845) was very helpful. I did all the things it said including the Terminal command (ouch, very scary) but it didn't quite work. I then called Apple Care and fortunately got someone very good. He had me do the very same thing except go to the Advanced area of the iPhone Sync Updater (or whatever that thing is called in iTunes when the phone is hooked up) and override the calendars on my phone with the ones from the Address Book on my iMac. This did the trick and I can now update my contacts again.
Now, if you manually put many contacts on your phone and want to get them back to Address Book then this will not help. Fortunately i go to the computer first with my contacts.
As an aside, after the Terminal command everything was unchecked in the iPhone Updater in iTunes. I had to re-enable everything and I also noticed my email accounts are no longer listed in the box. It is just blank. I have two accounts through the Mail Application of which I use only one to go to the iPhone. Now I'm wondering how I would add an account if I wanted to.

  • Contacts suddenly won't sync

I've been happily syncing my Linkedin account to Outlook, and then syncing Outlook to my iPhone. This worked beautifully until yesterday. Suddenly the iPhone has only two contacts called "Linkedin Test Contact". All my original contacts are still available in Outlook, but syncing doesn't seem to work.
The iTunes Outlook Addin is still active, so I'm not sure what's going on.
    Any advice?

    Hello nurikabe,
There are several ways to troubleshoot the data in your Outlook profile.
Before troubleshooting your Outlook data, you'll want to back up the Outlook data. A web search for "backup Outlook" will yield various means to do so, including links to Micrsoft articles.
The data or .pst file Outlook is accessing in your original user may not be in a format iTunes can sync:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1324
You can try setting up a "group" subfolder in Outlook and dragging contacts into it in small batches and syncing that one group to the iPhone. You can find some info about groups and Outlook in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1658010
You can try exporting your Outlook data and then importing it into a new Outlook profile:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918
    Hope that helps,
    Charles H.

  • Contacts will refuse to sync to iPod

For some unknown reason I am unable to sync my contacts from Outlook 2000 to the contacts on my iPod Video. When I try to check sync contacts, iTunes crashes. However, when I check the option for calenders, it says that it cannot sync. Is Outlook 2000 too old for it to sync? I would change it back to the standard Address Book program but I am not allowed to because the only way to change the option is by checking the box to sync which I obviously cannot. Help would be appreciated.

Im having the same problem here on my Dads PC running Windows XP (poor guy...)
When I try to get his machine to synch to the iPod Nano I just gave him iTunes crashes when I try to get it to synch to his Contacts.
    What's the dillyo?

  • Contacts deleting by themselves and iPhone needs a full backup restore after refusing to sync with iTunes. - Pls Help!

I have had my new iPhone 5s since the middle of December 2013 and I really enjoy it, however, I'm finding the iOS a little unstable.
I backup often - whether to iCloud or to my iMac at my office or to my Acer Windows 7 based Notebook at home, and I have had to do a full backup restore of my phone software after it suddenly refused to sync with iTunes. The only option open to me was "Restore iPhone" which also is a nuisance and takes a little while if you have a lot of content on your phone. I've had to do this 3 times now and it's getting on my nerves!
Also, as I type this, my contacts are suddenly removing themselves from my phone book. I discovered this as I was going through my Whatsapp messages when I noticed a few numbers in my recent chats that didn't have names or contact pictures. When I scrolled to the top of the message, I noticed that the "add contact" detail was suddenly available. I immediately checked my phone book and noticed that those contacts are no longer available. A lot of my numbers are suddenly showing up like this within the last hour and I haven't changed any settings at all. I back up to my notebook and iCloud once a week. This problem is a first for me  as well.
I must point out that I never had these issues with my iPhone 3GS which was only becoming cumbersome due to its outdated OS and because of its processing speed.
Will I need to wait for the next IOS Update to solve this problem, or will I have to find an alternative solution?
Any advice you have to offer would be most welcome.

Simplify your question, will you? I have trouble in reading such a long English article.

  • Anybody knows why my iPod 160 GB suddenly won't sync my Contacts anymore?

It was working alright before I "upgraded" to Snow Leopard and iTunes 9... suddenly I cannot sync my contacts into my iPod (a VERY valuable feature!)... I have been to MacStores and they have no idea... any solutions out there?
    Thanks!

    Hi
I have a similar problem. Everything went fine, but after installing Snow and Itunes 9.1 My ipod classic 80 GB did not sync Contacts and Calendars anymore. There is also a problem with the battery suddenly.
After having fully charged and I open music after 2 minutes it completely goes blank telling me there is a very low battery status. I do not know if this is by accident or it also hve to do with all the hardware problems people encounter with the iTunes 9.0
Does anybody have the same problem with battery?
    thks

    Hey Oynkus,
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
You state you updated your iMac to OS X 10.8.5.  Did you update iTunes as well?
If so, you may find the calendar sync options under Info.
Sync contacts, calendars, and other info with iPod, iPhone, or iPad - iTunes Help
Sync contacts and other info with iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad
Connect your device to your computer.
Click the device button, then click Info.
Select the items you want to sync.
    Click Apply.
    Take care,
    Nubz

  • ITunes refusing to sync more than one podcast

I'm having a bit of trouble syncing desired podcasts to my new Nano. I'm using manual sync, and if I attempt to add more than one different podcast by dragging, as suggested by iTunes help, the program is nonresponsive and refuses to sync. It's necessary for me to use manual sync, as I need to pick and choose the exact episodes I want. I've found nothing anywhere in help referring to this, anything anyone has to offer would be appreciated.
    Will

i have exactly the same problem with my iphone 4. if i create a new ringtone, it will synch temporarily. It gives me enough time to fool me into thinking i've managed to fix it and even allows me to assign the new tones to contacts. I can even synch several times without issue. But give it 24hours and good ole marimba is the default, and all but one ringtone remain.
If it makes any difference, these ringtones are self created using a CD i own and have ripped into itunes, then converted using the itunes method (resize to less than 30s, export to aac, then change the postfix to .m4r and reload).
Also worth noting is that they show up and can be played in the itunes>library>ringtones.
Any help would be oh so appreciated (before i pull any more hair out).

  • IPad 2 repeatedly refusing to sync photos

My iPad 2, which has 1.32Gb of free space left, has suddenly started refusing to sync the relatively modest selection of photos I have until recently been sync'ing over without any problems, claiming that there is insufficient space available. If I switch off podcast or movie sync'ing and free up space, the photos sync over again, but as soon as I re-add the podcasts or movies, I get the same error - even the photos are already on the device and I haven't added any new ones!! I have tried restoring my iPad from backup but this has made no difference. This happens every single time now and it is driving me mad. The key point being that this error did not occur before.
What's going on? Is it some kind of file corruption?

I occasionally have the same problem, but my approach is to cull those other sections (and the photos), especially the podcasts which may be downloading several chapters that I have not viewed/heard and so filling up much space quite easily.  There is a limited space on an iPhone or iPad and we need to manage it ourselves.  If there is not enough room for all the photos selected, none are transferred.
The key point being that this error did not occur before.  Before what?
And how much capacity does the iPad have: 32G, 64G?

  • ITunes for Windows 7 64 bit, Windows Live Mail Contacts not (all?) syncing

I have researched this as much as I can but cannot find a solution.
I had my iPhone 4 synced to my Window Vista Home Premium PC using iTunes just fine until January when the PC motherboard crashed. No data was lost and all contacts have been restored to my new PC with is Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). My contacts are in Windows Live Mail (Windows Contacts) and I'm syncing via iTunes with "Sync Contacts with: Windows Contacts" selected.
However, not all contacts are syncing with my iPhone. In fact, I'm not sure they are syncing at all, although the sync function goes through. It may be that the only ones that sync are those that existed before the new PC (i.e., the Windows Vista contacts which were in Windows Mail). I have created new contacts on both the PC using the new version Windows Live Mail and on the iPhone since the crash, and would like to get them synced up.
    Symptoms:
    1) Some specific contacts on PC are not on the iPhone after multiple sync attempts.
I have so far positively identified one contact that did not sync. It shows in Windows Live Mail under Contacts, however it does NOT show up in my Windows username/Contacts folder!
    2) One Contacts group on PC is not on the iPhone, although two others are (they probably were from before the crash).
I have so far positively identified one group that did not sync. It shows in Windows Live Mail under Contacts groups, however it does NOT show up in my Contacts folder as a .group file!
    3) The same group as #2 also does NOT show up in the iTunes group list under "Selected Groups" on iTunes, but the other two groups do. (I do not use "selected groups" because that disables "all contacts" syncing, but the groups are visible grayed out on the list.)
    4) As a test, I created a new contact on my iPhone, synced, and it shows up now in Windows Live Mail Contacts; it also shows up in my Windows username/Contacts folder.
    5) As a test, I created a new contact in Windows Live Mail and it does NOT show up in my username/Contacts folder. I synced the iPhone again and it does NOT show up on my iPhone contacts.
OK folks, where are these missing contacts going and how can I get them synced??  Thanks!
PS: I have the latest iTunes 10.5.3.3, no updates are available. However, Apple Support/iTunes seems to suggest Windows 7 64 bit either "does not use Windows Contacts" (which seemed quite wrong until I ran the tests above), and also that Windows 7 64 requires iTunes 10.4.1, which I cannot install because I have a later version installed. I would have assumed the correct version installed for my OS when I installed iTunes on the new PC. iTunes runs fine by itself and in coordination with my iPhone other than the above issue.
PPS: This site seems potentially relevant, however is highly technical: http://liveunplugged.wordpress.com/2011/02/04/windows-live-mail-contacts-databas e/
but doesn't help with this problem.

I didn't get any help on this from the forum, but from studying around and experimenting with different approaches, I have come up with the following conclusions:
Under Windows Vista, Windows Mail synced its contacts with Windows Contacts [which are in c:\users\username\contacts]. iPhone via iTunes synced with Windows Contacts. Changes to either Windows Mail Contacts or iPhone contacts would always update each other. Life was good.
Under Windows 7, Windows LIVE Mail (WLM) does NOT sync its contacts with Windows Contacts. It puts them into a hidden database. If you have prior Windows Contacts and brought them along for the ride, they are still there in the folder but they are not connected to the WLM contacts database
When you first set up Windows Live Mail, you can import your Windows Contacts and they appear to be synced. (In fact, they are, but only at that single point in time.)
If you change any Windows Live Mail contact or add a new one, it does NOT change in Windows Contacts. It only changes in the WLM contacts database. It therefore does NOT sync to your iPhone.
Similarly, if you change a contact on iPhone or add a new one, it will sync with Windows Contacts. However, this does NOT update your Windows Live Contacts.
So, from what I can tell, here is what this means: to maintain a steady state, you have two choices:
Whenever you update or add a contact, add it in either iPhone or Windows Contacts [the Windows Contacts folder has a "New Contact" button], and they will stay in sync with each other. Then manually update or add it in Windows Live Contacts to keep those up to date so you can use them for e-mail.  OR
Whenever you update or add a contact, add it in either iPhone or Windows Contacts, and they will stay in sync with each other. DO NOT manually update Windows Live Contacts, but realize they are not always up to date. If an address needed for an e-mail is not in there, manually retrieve it from your Windows Contacts or your iPhone and insert it into the e-mail. [Having done that, you can right click on the address in the e-mail and add it to your WLM contacts if you want.] Periodically, manually delete all of your Windows Live Mail Contacts and then re-import your Windows Contacts into Windows Live Mail and, voila, your contacts are in sync again! (Isn't that great, I mean really awful??)
NOTE: If you follow course #2, DO NOT import your Windows Contacts into Windows Live Mail contacts without deleting your existing Windows Live Mail contacts, or you will end up with a double set plus the new ones.
FURTHER NOTE: I obviously can't make any guarantee you won't lose data if you follow course #2. Be sure you have a complete backup before deleting your WLM contacts. However, I will say that after experiencing a double set of WLM contacts (by failing to understand the first NOTE above), it was impossible to pick out the new items [WLM will now show you the date of entry or modification of the contact, so you can't sort by date], so I deleted all of them and re-imported my Windows Contacts and had a complete set again.
AND ONE FINAL NOTE: I have not tested how any of this affects Windows Live Contacts used online outside of Windows Live Mail, because I do not use Windows Live online.
Please post further comments if you have any more information on this topic.

My Apple TV all of a sudden refuses to show the movies from my MacBook and says it needs to set time network. What is that?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV should set it's time automatically from the network time server, if it isn't doing this try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds, if this fails try resetting or restoring it.

How do I get my old contacts that were last synced on my ITunes account through my laptop (USB) to my new iPad ? I no longer have a laptop just my iPad mini.

So the contacts were synced to the computer you no longer have?  You could use a free app like MCBackup and email the contacts from the ipad to yourself and open the email on your  phone and then import the contacts from the email to the phone

My contacts on my old Iphone I gave a family member were deleted then synced to icloud.  My current iphone lost all its contacts when it next synced.  I retreived a 6mth old backup to get my contacts, but I want my recent messages back, any help?

The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts.  Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone.

  • Address Book Contact Photos will not sync over to iPhone 2G

So here is the deal. I just bought a new 21.5" iMac w/ Snow Leopard. I had a iMac G5 with Leopard previously and rather than using migration assistant, i just copied over the applicable folders and files (per my research) so that my contacts would be present on the new computer. Everything seems fine except the contact photos will not sync over to my iPhone. Has anyone run across this? Help is greatly appreciated!
