Contacts sync from phone to icloud

I have a iphone 4 and I'm updating my contacts when I switch the contacts button on it asks contacts "contacts previously merged will be synced with icloud." Is it going to undue all the work I just did fixing my contacts ie I have 4 contacts for one and am consolidating them, and want them transferred to my ipad the correct way.
Thanks

It will do exactly what it says it will. It will merge your contacts with what's on iCloud.
By the way, it appears the "." and "," keys on your keyboard are not working properly.

  • Contacts sync from phone

I had to replace my hard drive and lost everything so now I only have my contacts in my iphone. When I sync my iphone will it delete my contacts and sync with my empty address book or will it sync my address book from the iphone and add all the entries?

Enter at least one contact in the Address Book on your Mac before syncing.
Pay close attention to any message and options provided before syncing. You should be provided a merge selection which you want to select.
If you are unsure about any message and options provided, cancel the sync until you are sure.
Now is a good time to start maintaining a regular backup of all your important data - stored on an external drive used for backup purposes only. Or if you already do so, include a backup of your Address Book. The Address Book includes a simple and quick backup option.

  • Why is contact sync from iphone or ipad to local iMac address book gone?

An option for syncing contacts from iphone or ipad to iMac seems to be gone.  From searching other posts on this topic, I see where contact sync is now "through iCloud" but is this the EXCLUSIVE choice for syncing contacts?  In other words, there is no longer any sync of contacts NOT through iCloud; I cannot sync contacts from my iPhone to my iMac without it all being stored in the cloud.
This is absurd.  My iCloud was hacked (not a password issue on my iMac or any local trojan/etc there are support threads about this) and tons of spam sent to my contacts when I used to sync through the cloud.  I turned off iCloud sync for contacts and opted instead to sync from phone to mac and from iPad to mac and this was working just fine, keeping me nice and updated every day no matter where I modified any contacts.
Now it seems that is no longer possible.  Is this by design?  Why on earth was this removed?  Is it a "feature" of these new products to remove working sync methods and force everything through the cloud??

The ability to sync contacts, calendar and browser bookmarks directly from a Mac running Mavericks to an IOS device via USB or WiFi has indeed been removed. Synching through iCloud, Exchange, WebDAV or a similar cloud service is the only option now. You can comment to Apple in this issue via their feedback page, if you wish:

When syncing Contacts or Calendars between an iPhone, iPad, or an iPod touch and Outlook 2003, Outlook 2007, or Outlook 2010, changes that you synced to your computer may not appear in Outlook even after the sync has been completed.Try this article to see if it works for you

  • Desktop Manager - contacts sync from Entourage but...

Desktop Manager - contacts sync from Entourage but when I add a new contact, it won't sync the other way.  I have all teh Sync options set in Entourage as per the instructions.
    what am I doing wrong?

I have the same problem with getting new calendar appointments from my 8530 Curve into Entourage (on Mac OS x v. 10.6.3). They go into iCal. I have Entourage sync preferences set to sync with iCal, and I have Desktop Manager advanced sync options set for events created on the device to go to Entourage - but they don't. I have "merge data" and two-way syncing set.   It works fine syncing from Entourage to my BB.
How can I get data added on my BB to go directly into Entourage?
    Thanks.

    Yes. Try this.
Open the Facebook app and go to your Friends section.
At the top right, tap the arrow button then select "sync contacts".
This will upload iphone contacts to facebook and download facebook contacts on to the iphone.
Here is a link for more info (although the facebook app in that link is an older version)

  • Where oh where is direct Contact sync?  NO to iCloud.

WHY did Apple remove direct Contacts sync from iTunes for iPhone/iPad?  There is no way the "cloud" is trustworthly enough to have what might be in there.
Please tell me this will be put back?  Any ideas when?

  • Sync Contacts from Phone to icloud

I have about 3000 contacts from my old Microsoft Exchange server that are in my phone but I'm unable to get them from my phone to iCloud. Any idea how I can salvage these contacts? I don't want to lose them when I upgrade my phone. Thanks.

To copy the exchange account contacts to iCloud, do the following:
Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (any iCloud contacts will still be in iCloud).
Download the app My Contacts Backup.  (Since you have more than 500 contacts to transfer you will need the “Pro” version.)  Use the app to back up the remaining contacts on your phone (from the exchange account) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section) and set this to iCloud.
Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from the other accounts back to your device, and to iCloud.
Open the Contacts app, tap Groups, then tap the exchange account so it is unchecked and tap Done.  Confirm that the contacts are now all in the iCloud account on your phone, as well as on icloud.com.
Assuming they are, you can either leave things this way (with the duplicate exchange account contacts hidden from view), or to eliminate the duplicate contacts on your phone, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars…tap the exchange account and turn off contacts syncing with the exchange account.

  • How can I back up Contacts synced from an Exchange server into iCloud?

Hi everybody. I would like to back up into iCloud my Contact (and Calendars too) which I have  previously synced to the device ( that is an iPad air running iOS 8.2.1) from an Exchange server. The green flags in Settings / ICloud are duly switched on but no contact will appear under Groups/all iCloud. Is this feature feasible at all or is there something missing in the procedure I follow ? I'll appreciate any clues. Piero

Hi Brendan. Thanks for your clue but unfortunately that did not solve the problem. Prior to posting my query I had already checked out the article you're referring me to (whose URL is http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3605). It may well be that I'm not being crystal clear owing to my far from perfect English but the whole point is precisely that I'm not able to import contacts  which ALREADY appear on my iPad - being the outcome of syncing my remote MS Exchange account with the device - into iCloud. The procedure described in the quoted article simply doesn't work (for that matter, no such Setting sign pops up under ICloud contacts). In fact, it appears that the only contacts which I'm able to keep under iCloud are those which I directly create from scratch within iCloud Group itself. Since I'm likely to have my MS outlook account  ( which is mirrored into a MS Exchange one for remote usage) forcibly deleted in one month time or so, I started  worrying about how to keep my contacts alive/ intact after that deletion. Hope the issue got clearer now ... Cheers, Piero.

  • Updated contacts do not sync from Mac to iCloud

Updating or adding contacts in my Mac addressbook are not synced to the cloud. But if I make changes in my contacts on my iPhone or iPad, sync works perfectly and updates are reflected in my Mac addressbook. I'm running Lions on a MBP.
    Any hints much appreciated.
    THX
    Daniel

First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • Contacts cannot be synced from iPhone to iCloud

Some existing and newly created contacts on the iPhone do not sync to iCloud but at the same time contacts created from iPad will appear quickly on the iPhone.
Why and how to fix it?

Thanks Randers4.  You guess is right!  The Default Account was set to On My iPhone.  I'm sure I set it to iCloud and have no idea why and when it was changed to "On My iPhone".
Now, how can I identify all those contacts stored On My iPhone and move them to the Account iCloud?

*Sync Your iPhone With Your Outlook Calendar Using iTunes*
1.Open iTunes and check to make sure that you have the most recent version. Do this by clicking on "Help" and then clicking on "Check for Updates."
2.Use the cable that came with your iPhone to connect it directly to your computer. This will automatically launch iTunes. Select "iPhone" from the iTunes source list. Click on the "Info" tab in iTunes.
3.Click on the "Sync Outlook calendars" option. Click on "Apply" in the lower-right corner of your screen. Your computer will now sync with your iPhone based on your settings.

    Hi duham,
Yes, you can go to Settings>iCloud and turn off the Contacts button. When it asks if you want to keep the Contacts on the phone, say yes. Then turn Contacts back on, and it should ask you if you want to Merge them.
