Contacts were deleted by an activesync device, but why?

Hi,
our CEO has an exchange account where he adds all his contacts. Now there are 2778 contacts.
For some reason, sometimes his contacts gets deleted and I guess, that it depends on one of his mobile devices. He has his Samsung S5  and Apple iPad mini which he uses all day long. And he has a S4 mini which is only a backup phone.
Is there something like a conflict rule on the exchange server which said: If here is a conflict, use the content on the mobile device to synchronize?
Or is there an option on the exchange server, which doesnt allow the mobile devices to delete all contacts or mails at the same time?
Thanks for your help.

Hi ,
Based on my knowledge if we delete the contacts from outlook it will get deleted in active sync device and reversal. But it won't get deleted automatically.
Is there something like a conflict rule on the exchange server which said: If here is a conflict, use the
content on the mobile device to synchronize?
None of the contacts will be deleted due to multiple devices configured for a single account.
Or is there an option on the exchange server, which doesn't allow the mobile devices to delete all contacts or mails at the same time?
Based on my knowledge there is no such kind of option.
In exchange you can enable the mailbox auditing for the critical mailboxes to avoid such kind of issues and with the help of the audit logs you can able to find out who has deleted the mailbox items even you can track mailbox owner activities also.
Thanks & Regards S.Nithyanandham

Contact List Problem.   I have duplicates on my iPhone.  I turned off my Contact and selected "Delete Contacts"  Most of the contacts were deleted but about 120 were left on my phone.   I've tried selecting individual contacts and deleting them, No Go.
Can anyone help?   How do I get rid of these contacts so I can re-synch my iPhone.

I have exactly the same problem on my ipad. It is happening on only some contacts but, as with you, when I delete one of the contacts on the ipad, the second ipad contact and the contact on the imac are also deleted. This is even the case when I have differentiated the two contacts on the ipad and can see the one I have deleted on the ipad is not the same one as is then deleted on the imac.

    Hi bmfowler,
bookmarks are linked to your profile (irrespective of what FF version you are currently on) this profile should be left intact by an upgrade/downgrade.
First thing I would do would to be run -> %appdata%/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/ (standard profile location) to figure out whether the old profile (with the bookmarks) is still available. If so proceed with the

You could try the approach outlined here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4841.

i updated my iphone and all my contacts were deleted, how can i get them back?

like roaminggnome said you should see your contacts again once you sync with iTunes. if you used iCloud before, make sure contact sync is turned on and your contacts should be back.

  • Some of my contacts were deleted upon setting up iCloud

set it up on my Macbook first, then my phone. When I went back into my phone just a bit later, some of my contacts were deleted, alot of them only have a Facebook email, birthday and Facebook IM left, no phone #'s or any other info I might have had. Again, if they weren't Facebook friends, they didn't get altered. Just seeing if there is a way to get all my #'s back? Thanks

Check under Settings > iCloud to see if the Contacts switch is ON (green side showing). If it's already on, switch it off for 30-60 seconds, then back on again. Your contacts should start showing up shortly.

  • I changed my ID and all my contacts were deleted

I changed my ID and all my contacts were deleted?

Change your appleID back to the previous ID you used, and they should come back.  If you want to remove that ID and switch back, make sure you choose the option to "Keep the contacts on the iPhone/iPad/iPod".

  • Half of my contacts were deleted when I updated to 5.1

When I updated my phone (1st gen moto x) nearly half of my contacts got deleted. I don't know how to get them back. I know I either saved my contacts to my gmail or at&t address book. I tried to find them on either of those accounts but I found nothing. I contacted motorola and they told me to delete my gmail account from my phone and clear my cache partition, but that didn't help. I also went to the at&t store but they were no help. How can I get my contacts back?

Not only did I lose my contacts, I now can no longer text pictures. There are only instructional "how-tos" in the Repair and Resolve tool here. i have tried clearing the cache with no resolution. Any help would be appreciated.

  • My contacts were deleted? help

does anyone know how to retrieve lost contacts? i backed them up on my computer then did a software upgrade and when i finsihed the update all of my contacts were erased and cannot be found on my computer, but my email and text messages were kept.  Any Ideas?

contacts are not part of the iPhone backup.  Contacts are meant to be synched with a computer application like Outlook or Address Book, or with a cloud service for safekeeping.  If you've been using your computer as recommended, your contacts are safe in one of those applications.  Simply synch them back to your phone.
If you've not been using the phone as intended, and leaving your precious contacts without backup only on a phone--which can be lost, stolen, damaged, etc, then your contacts are gone and you've learned a very tough lesson.

  • After I installed the new OS, all of my contacts were deleted!

All of my contacts were gone.
    All of my stored texts.
All of my stored voice mails.
And my phone was updated to 4G from 3G.
There was no warning that this would happen.  Can anyone help?
Retrieving my contacts is the most troublesome part of this!  I went into the AT/T store, and they said that Icloud was turned off on my phone, and I would need to call Apple directly.  HELP!
    Thanks.

Again, we took it to an AT/T store...which means that they checked our backup/ICloud...they said it had been turned off.  This is so frustrating.
    Any advice besides calling Apple?

  • All of my contacts were deleted for no reason. Is there any way to restore them?

I powered down my iPhone 4S because an app was bugging out. When I powered it back up, all of my contacts had been deleted. When I tried to see my contact list it told me there were "No Contacts" on this phone. In the "messages" app, each conversation is now paired with a phone-number and not each contact's name.
I did not have my contacts sync'd to my iTunes, or iCloud, or any other storage system.
Interestingly, when I do a "left-swipe search", and type in a contact's name e.g. Joe Smith, my phone is able to show me which text-message conversations were with Joe Smith, and other information about this contact. But that's the only memory my phone has of its lost contacts.
Is there any way to restore lost contacts without external storage / syncing ??
    Thanks

I think those contacts still in iphone database. So you can back up you iphone with itunes to get iphone database off your iphone. Then access the SQLite batabse.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766
All data included with the backup is stored in a SQLite database format with the data within various folders not easily accessible. There are some 3rd party utilities that provide for extracting select data from an iPhone's backup and iphone database such as this one.

  • I have two iphones and the two got sync'd contacts were deleted from 1 phone and now were deleted from other via wireless on icloud the last back up was 2 months ago how do i retrieve and reinstall that backup? or can I do this from an old icloud back up

Hi this is my first time using this service and I am having a huge problem with two of my iphones. I have two phones that were sync'd accidently on itunes and both were sync'd to icloud too apparently. The one phone then deleted some of the contacts - now both phones have lost those contacts. What would be the steps to get the phone contacts (not from the computer) back on one of the iphones. it does show the phone was backed up over two months ago - can I restore to that back up and how? Any help would be very appreciated <")))><

Please read before going through with this procedure.
If you really want your contact back and you did not do another iCloud backap since you deleted some of your contacts, you can do a hard reboot on both devices with iClouded contacts by holding down the home and lock buttons on each of them for 10 seconds ignoring the slide to turn off thing. Make sure you have iCloud contact services off before doing so. You can then go through the whole set up process until you get up to the backup part. You then press to restore from an iCloud backup (make sure you choose the right backup for the right phone). If you didn't make an iCloud backup before the contact incident, you will have to use your two-month-old iTunes backups. Each phone should have their contacts the way they were from your last backup. You then go into Settings>iCloud>and turn off contacts. You then can choose if you want to keep your current contacts or not. Turn this off on both phones just incase you add another iCloud device to the mix later on. Now your contact lists are no longer linked (Caution: side effect may include lack of edit button). You may now add and delete contacts as you please without it happening on your other phone.
    Thank you for choosing Apple.

  • I just looked at my phone and ALL of my contacts were deleted?

  • What happens to the apps' data, if they were restored to a new device, but apps never get installed?

This is a super easy scanario.
Say in my old phone I have totally 50 apps, 30 purchased under Appel ID (A), and another 20 purchased under a different Apple ID, (B).
The old device is iOS5 and I turned on iCloud backup and back up everything (data of all apps).
I get a new device, restore from iCloud, wait until everything (photo, messages, settings, most importantly, data of all 50 apps) are restoed to the new phone.
The first thing happen after the first reboot, and it will prompt me to log on my Apple ID, to install apps.
What if, at this moment I decied to only sign on with Apple ID (A), and just don't want to use all 20 apps that I purchased under Apple ID (B) anymore?
Is the data of those 20 apps become leftover /  orphane on my new phone, and just no way to clean them up?  Please notice again, that I did not say "install app and then delete", I know that will clean up the data as well. I mean when data is copied over but app never get installed.

Game settings and other data is part of the backup:
    iTunes: About iOS backups
A manual backup before you sync for the first time will save your content to the new PC.
