Container and codec for images

hello guys
my question is
has images container and codec like videos?
can you give m some example of images container and codec?
another question
png, jpeg, gif etc are codec or container?
i have a lot of confusion in my head U_U

Well, if one wants to get highly technical, those Still Images do contain CODEC's, or sorts. Most are compressed formats, and Encoding was required to write them. Then, one does Decode the information via the file's header, but with Stills, it differs from Video (and most Audio), in that the information to Decode is constant, and is not anywhere near as variable, as with Video. For instance, if one does not have the capability to Decode JPEG2000 (usually via a plug-in), they cannot Open one on that system. Same with writing the file - if they do not have the JPEG2000 capability, that option will not be listed. So yes, one could extend the term CODEC to cover the Still Image formats, but that is an uncommon application of the term CODEC. Here, it really gets down to semantics and common usage.
For Audio, which is not muxed, things are still pretty simple. WAV (the format), will most likely have PCM, or LPCM (similar, but with some differences), and the file will be Uncompressed. MP3, will only have the MPEG, with certain, limited parameters. AC3 (a form of MPEG), can have some variations, but the most common is the Dolby Digital MPEG CODEC, and is often referred to as DD AC3. That can be a 2-channel (most often seen as stereo, but not always), or 6-channel (most often seen as 5.1 SS, but not always).
When one muxes the Audio & Video Streams into one "wrapper," or format, things can get a bit more involved, though the Audion Stream is usually much more limited.
Some Video CODEC's can appear in different wrappers, but when the standards are broken, many programs can experience issues, as they are hard-coded to look for a particular set of Video CODEC's, in particular formats. Recently, some camera mfgrs. have decided to wrap the H.264 CODEC into an AVI wrapper. Programs, like Premiere Pro are not used to looking for H.264 in the AVI wrapper. It looks for H.264 in MOV, MTS, MP4, and a few more, wrappers.
Then, one gets to AVCHD, with IS a sub-set of H.264, but all H.264 material is NOT AVCHD. It is particular.
To confuse things, even more, some camera mfgrs. have gone back to an older CODEC, MJPEG (Motion JPEG), but have tweaked that for their specific uses. That means that one might have an MJPEG CODEC installed on the system, but it will not work in their editng program, as camera mfgr. ____ tweaked the CODEC, that they use. In that case, it is best to install the camera mfgr's. specific version of MJPEG.
Keeping 100% current on Video CODEC's is an impossible task, as new ones, or tweaked versions of older ones, are introduced about every six mos, and some of those are NOT placed into the common wrappers. Knowing the general concepts, and a few of the most common Video CODEC's, is as good as it gets.
Hope that helps,
Hunt

What is the sample rate and codec for iTunes Radio? Is it lossless encoded?

I have to agree with you.  There are several forum discussions on bit rate being as high as 256 kbps but I don't see how it could be more than 96 kbps based on the poor sound quality I'm hearing.  I'm comparing it to an internet radio station that is 128 kbps and sounds much better.

  • Best Quicktime resolution and codec for downloading a 1hr, 15 minute video

    Hello All;
I have to create a video that can be downloaded and played via. the web. Looking at most downloadable content, I see Quicktime is used most often.
My original fcp project is 1920 X 1080, 1 hr, and 15 minutes long.
Would would you say is the best resolution and codec to use for the highest quality at the lowest total file size ? What do you use that offers you the results you like ?
I've heard that MPEG 4 is used for web delivery and I've tried this at 720 X 480 but some of the images in the video like a american flag show a strange shimmering effect. I'm not sure what causes that as most of the video looks fine, only a few objects in the scene at various times.
I have also heard H.264 is good for web delivery and am trying that now but it will take 15 more hours to finish the export. Not sure if I'll see the strange shimmering effect as I did with MPEG 4. Hope not but if I do, is there anything I can do to eliminate this ?
    Thank you very much.
    Tim

An hour and 15 minute video is going to be huge. The smallest file size that's going to be adequate quality is probably in 800MB or better range. That's a big download for most punters.

  • One chapter for video and another for images on same DVD?

    Hello,
I don't yet have a Mac, but am very close to buying a MacBook. I do have a question about iDvd. Is it possible to create a theme or template or to even do this. I want to on a regular basis have a short 5-7 tops 10 minute video and 100-200 pictures. I'd like it so the user has the option to click one chapter and watch the video. Click the other and view the images with an option to browse the disc and save the images for uploading to their target of choice such as FB. Is this possible with iDvd?
    Thanks,
    BK

Hello and Welcome to the discussions!
Congratulations on being an 'almost' Mac purchaser!
Yes, you can do what you want in iDVD.
You will have theme templates that come with iDVD to use to make a nice theme for your projects.
You will have the options to have the videos play individually by placing them on the menu one at a time, or to put them in iDVD the way you place a slideshow and have them play consecutively. Here is a link to a visual from Old Toad showing just that. Remember to look at this again when you get to this point:
    http://homepage.mac.com/toad.hall/.Pictures/Forum/iDVD8movieSS.png
Another option for videos is to put them all into one iMovie and make chapters for each video. However, the chapters will not appear on the main menu, but in a separate submenu.
You can then put the photos in iDVD as their own separate slideshow.
When your DVD is viewed, the options will be to select to play the video slideshow or play the photo slideshow. You can rename these titles whatever you wish.
If you make an iMovie, the options for it will be 'Play Movie' and 'Scene Selection' ( to link to the submenu with the iMovie chapter choices) and the same photo slideshow.
In additiion, you can utilize the DVD-ROM option to have the photos and videos available for downloading to computer. This option will not be seen when the DVD disk is viewed on a set-top DVD player. iDVD's Help File says:
+In iDVD, you can easily make it possible for viewers to download the photos and movies that appear in your slideshows. This is a nice feature for viewers who may, for example, want to print the photos for permanent display.+
+The photos and movies are added to the DVD-ROM portion of your DVD, and viewers can access them when they insert the DVD into the drive on a computer. (The files are not accessible from a TV.)+
Get the MacBook! Good luck with your projects. Take the time to do all the tutorials Apple offers for its iLife applications. Spend time here in the discussions for the apps you are using. Utilize the Search function to see if someone else has asked and received answers to a problem similar to yours. You will learn a lot and find answers that even the Apple Genius bar people do not have!

  • 24f ...what setup and codec for Canon XHA1

There is an HDV easy setup. Is this the correct way to go?
What about the apple hdv intermediate codec that I see people suggesting? It doesn't show a setting for 1080p 24f though.
Also when editing this footage, can I just work with it the way it is captured or should it be converted with compressor to something more manageable?
    G5 Dual Core 2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2.5 g ram, 2 internal sata 2 250gb

So the big advantage of using a capture card is that you can capture in a different codec, like DVCPRO HD. It's easier to edit with?
Yes. That and you can monitor your footage in real time on an HD, or even SD monitor, although you'd need an HD monitor for color correcting. And you can also output to tape to a variety of decks.
What about real time play back? I can see that now on another monitor. What advantage is a capture card?
YOu cannot monitor HDV in real time thru an HDV camera or deck like you do DV. The format will not allow it. You can monitor DVCPRO HD thru a deck, but the decks cost $25,000. The capture card is cheaper. The capture card can send a true HD signal to an HD monitor. Without it, anything you monitor will be a proxy. Even if you have two Apple 23" displays and you use Digital Cinema Display on one...you are not seeing a tru HD image.
If you had a Matrox MXO and an Apple Cinema Display, you could monitor a true HD signal...and they both will cost you $999 each. Otherwise you would have to get an HD CRT or HD LCD monitor, and they go for between $4000 and $35,000. The drawback with this is that with HDV, you still have conform times when outputting. But you can use this card to output to D5 or HDCAM or DVCPRO HD, or downconvert to digitbeta...whathaveyou. It is OUTPUT ONLY...it does not capture, so you'll be stuck working with HDV.
HD is an expensive venture my man....

  • Drag-and-drop for image stacks

I'd like to be able to drag and drop image stacks from one folder to the next. Currently, when I drag and drop it just grabs one of the images from the stack and leaves the others behind.
I can expand the stack and then drag and drop all of them, but the stack itself is lost--I have to go to the destination directory and re-stack the images.
    Bart

I've discovered (and its nowhere in the documentation as far as I can see) that if you select the bottom slide in a stack .. ie the bottom left hand corner of the "reperesenation of the lower slides" you can drag and drop the stack(s) in to another folder.
Unfortunately they don't remain stacked ..Here's another vote for persistent stacks.

  • Copy and Paste for Images won't work on windows 8

Copy and paste function on my windows 8 laptop is not working. For texts and links it would work when I copy it from a website to word but when I try to copy an image to word it wouldn't paste it.

    Hi,
Meanwhile, I suggest you check whether you have any third party anti-virus programs installed in your system, some of those software might prevent such copy\paste function, if you have, please temporarily turn off or uninstall them as a test.
    Or as
raghuramu mentioned, it is a software restriction in some websites.
By the way, are you able to copy and paste between other application, such as word to word, not IE?

  • List of compatible video cameras and codecs for iMovie 1.2.2 (iOS)?

Is there any official or unofficial list of compatible video cameras and video formats/codes published by anyone?
By the way, I successfully managed to import .mov (motion jpeg) from Panasonic DMC-FT1 to iMovie for iOS5. The AVCHD setting (.mts) does not work however.

Not that I've ever found. I tried to research on the Apple site before I bought it but found nothing.
I will say that SD cards are pretty universally compatible and I've not had an issue plugging htem into my iPad. So if your camera has an SD card, you should be good to go, and you can sync without running down the battery on your camera (I honestly never sync my camera with its cable since it does little more than kill the battery, I always do it just with the card, but everyone likes doing things differently)
What might be more helpful, search your camera manufacturer's information. It might be easier to find your camera company saying it's compatible iwth the CCK than it is to find a list of all cameras. Or maybe you can post your camera model here and maybe someone else has the same model and can tell you.

  • Authoring and codec for Blue Ray

    Hi,
We must deliver a Blue Ray DVD in a few months.
Everything has been edited in 1920X1080 23.98 p.
    1) Can we compress the program in MPEG-2 like SD-DVD ?
    2) Can we make the authoring in DVD Studio Pro 4.2.1 ?
    thanks

    Antoine,
BR authoring on the Mac isn't really possible yet. PP CS3 does include Encore which will do a very limited-author for BR but it's not the full specification.
If you absolutely must author in BR and don't want to spend 100k for Sonic Scenarist (and the required hardware) there might be one way to do it effectively - but nobody has tested this yet, so you'll be on the bleeding edge of experimentation...
You could use BootCamp with Leopard and install an XP partition; purchase Roxio's DVDit Pro HD and do your authoring on the PC side. See this website:
    http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/dvdit/hd/overview.html
You'll have to experiment a bit with output from Compressor to provide a file that the Roxio app will like, but it might just work.
If that's not an option, then you'll have to take your project to an HD authoring facility and pay anywhere from $5-$15k to have it properly BR authored.

  • Radio group with URL for image in a table

I'm trying to display some text and an image for a radio group so the form looks like
    (*) text for item 1 {image for item 1}
    ( ) text for item 2 {image for item 2}
    ( ) text for item 3 {image for item 3}
    I've found these:
Re: Is it possible to display an image instead of button in a radio group?
How to show image in radio group ?
It looks like all I have to do is create a LOV that looks like:
    SELECT {complex stuff that generates the text string, img tag, and URL for image}
      ,DB_PK
    FROM dynamic_view_for_lov -- public synonym
But, my images are stored in a table.
I have been able to create an IR using the "Column Format=BLOB" method.
The SQL for the report looks like:
    select
      db_pk, display_text, image_len, image_clob
    from dynamic_view_for_lov -- public synonym
And the Number/Date Format for the IMAGE_LEN column is:
    IMAGE:DYNAMIC_VIEW_FOR_LOV:IMAGE_BLOB:DB_PK::::::Inline:Download
My question:  How do I create the URL for the img tag for the LOV?
    many thanks

For the person in the future, you have to 'fake create' the Automated Row Fetch process.
The get_blob_file_src gets all the information from that Process and the column name of the Item Type that is on the same page.
I forgot where I read about that trick.
Basically, you create the Automated Row Fetch process, then 'disable' it.
Same thing with the required Item Type.  Create it as a "File Type", just to tell APEX that it comes from a Database Column,.... then change it to a 'hidden' type.
You don't have to "fake' it if the application already contains the file upload item and ARF. The assumption is that the application will contain these components in order to maintain the BLOBs and you'll just reference the functional ones.

Probably the simplest solution is to use password-based encryption (PBE). See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/guide/security/CryptoSpec.html#PBEEx
