Container for video

Hi to everybody,
this is my first post here in the forum,
so any help will be highly appreciate.
I'm wondering if there is any way in Premiere CC to put a clip into a 'container', a 'frame' so I can move it without needing to crop.
For example in InDesign I can put an image into a frame and if the image is larger than the frame it will be automatically cropped.
The visible part of the image is the one within the frame.
My goal, as I have to work with several clips on the same frame, is to create a grid of 'frames' then put inside each frame the clip I need and move it as I want.
Hope to find a solution,
Thanks in advance,
Matt

Hi Mattia 13,
I understand what you're asking for but unfortunately the answer is no, Premiere Pro does not have an easy tool to do what you're asking for, which is a real shame since it's a very common editing situation.
I've requested such a tool years ago but most requests for intelligent additions to Premiere seem to fall on deaf ears at Adobe.
What I requested was this: an intrinsic 'Crop' tool that appears above the intrinsic Motion settings in the Effect Controls Window.  This would give users an intelligent and easy way of cropping the dimentions of the 'window' or 'frame' through which the  clip could be freely positioned, resized, rotated, etc.  You can achieve the same result by using the Track Matte effect, but it's far far more work than the solution I suggested to Adobe, since years later, the Track Matte effect remains broken, and thus requires nested sequences to get it to work the way you suggest.
The best thing to do is send you Feature Request here: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish and pray that Adobe will listen.

  • Can't target correct container for video in a Lightbox.

I'm trying to embed a YouTube video into a Lightbox (ala, Katie's Cafe, which I did successfuly last week).  It just keeps showing up on the page, NOT in the right container. I have followed the directions about 20 times from the Katie's Cafe site, and no go. When I get to the part where you delete the existing default flower image, that image frame is no longer selected (like it says in the instructions). So I click on Widget / Container / Container then Insert HTML object, but it doesn't stick in the Lightbox, but shows up outside. I am going crazy. This is my first Muse site and I (and my client) is loving it.  Help please! and thank you.
    Barbara

Thank you for replying. I had previously gotten it to work, but not sure how!  I did use the Composition Lightbox Display, but my problem was when I deleted the ridged flower image, somehow lost the image frame. I ended up temporarily brightly coloring each of the elements, and that helped me to target the correct element. But somehow the instructions on Katie's Cafe no longer seem to be quite accurate?
Anyway, just now I have another problem in that I can not select this Lightbox widget at all.  I've arranged all other page elements Backward, but no matter how many times or where I click, I cannot get the lightbox to select. Have I somehow "frozen" this object or otherwise made it inaccessible?  I need to make some changes and feel like I probably have to delete it and start over?
I love Muse, doing my first (fairly large) site, but am running into more little frustrations -- mostly my own ignorance, but sometimes Muse's fault!

  • Why does an email that contains a video in WMP etc format and I try to open it on my iPhone coverts it to Quicktime which is not supported. How do I get this to stop?

All emails that I try to open on my iPhone 4 OS 5 that contains a video which was in windows media player format when sent to my email box will convert the video to Quicktime player when I open the email on my phone- which the iPhone does not reconize. Is there something that can be done to fix this problem?

WMP is a windows proprietary format.
It is not supported on iOS devices.
QuickTime player is built into ios and used for all video playback-nothing is being converted.
You can try downloading an alternate player that can playback wmp or use a computer.

  • Best Monitors for Video editing?

Hey guys. I'm looking at an NEC monitor for editing my stills, and am wondering if this will be suitable for video editing?
    Models I'm considering are:
    http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/pa241w-bk
    http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/pa242w-bk
    http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/pa271w-bk
These monitors are great for stills, as they cam emulate paper types well, but do I need a more "vibrant" monitor for video? Just worried that my video will look a bit off on these monitors, as it's such a different medium?
If they aren't suitable, what brand/models are considered good? (Professional level).
    Cheers,
                 Ben

Hey Fuzzy, sorry about the format of this reply. Not sure to quote on here the way you did. Your points are addressed numerically.
    1. I haven't seen the user manuals, but using http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/pa271w-bk for example, under color gamut, there's no mention of Rec709. Compare that to: http://www.eizo.com.au/products/coloredge/cg276/index.html#tab02, under preset modes. Not to mention this entire page: http://www.eizo.com/global/solutions/graphics/video_editing_and_post_production.html.
Just seems like NEC isn't playing up their video editng credentials, and I wonder why?
If you can link me to a user manual for any of the above models, which shows that it ships with Rec709 I'd appreciate it.
    2. I couldn't find that artcle, unless you mean: http://www.videomaker.com/article/15133-nec-multisync-pa271w-color-correct-lcd-display-rev iew. In any case, I meant NEC's marketing.
    This page has nothing: http://www.necdisplay.com/p/desktop-monitors/pa271w-bk
The incedibly detailed marketing PDF here: http://www.nec-display-solutions.com/p/download/pr/File/cp/Products/LCD/Shared/Brochures/P DF-PASeries.pdf?fn=PASeries.pdf actually contains the phrase "A range of Professional Desktop Displays that are ideal for users in the Photography and Media, Architecture, Engineering, Industrial Design and Precision CAD fields. " (No mention of Video, although it is the first NEC document mentioning "Built in Rec-BT709")
You have to understand that for a comsumer such as myself, not spelling these things out is going to make me look for answers. Or go to a company that does spell it out.
    3. Got it, thanks.
    4. I think I get that. I'll read the article. But... do these NEC monitors comply?

  • Does JMF Support multilingual absolute paths for video playback?

    Hi everyone,
I hope I can find some answer here.
Does JMF supports multilingual paths for videos? E.g. I have a video located by the following URL:
    G:\video\Stürmische\video.mp4
When I try to open this video by JMF, I get the following Exception: Problem playing video+
    javax.media.NoPlayerException: Cannot find a Player for :file:/G:/video/Stürmische/video.mp4_
When I use the same video.mp4 file with path containing only simple latin letters, it's played normally.
Is there any problem with JMF regarding to multilingual paths?
    Many thanks,
    Armine

I assume that it's a JMF cons. and IMHO, multilingual support for video paths/names should be added in it.Several things...
    1) JMF is designed to play both local files and RTP/RTSP file sources. As such, it uses URLs as resource locators. It makes perfect sense to make that design decision.
    2) URL encoding only allows alphanumeric characters and a handful of special characters. Considering the internet was invented by the United States army and our keyboards don't have those symbols, it makes perfect sense to make that design decision.
    3) Most importantly, JMF hasn't been updated since 2002 and development has been completely discontinued... so "multilingual support" won't ever be added to it.
And it isn't multilingual support you're asking for, it's support for non-ASCII characters.
It is my understanding that you can take a path like:
    G:\video\Stürmische\video.mp4
Run it through some encoding procedure, and come out with a usable URL like:
    G:%5Cvideo%5CSt%FCrmische%5Cvideo.mp4
Which I got by using the encoder on the following website:
    http://www.blooberry.com/indexdot/html/topics/urlencoding.htm
Coincidentally, had you done the research that I suggested you do, you might have learned that Java already has something built in to handle encoding non-compliant URLs for you.
    http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.5.0/docs/api/java/net/URLEncoder.html
So, I'd expect you could use the URLEncoder class to implement suggestion #3 from my previous post.

  • Playing video from a capture device - Out of memory for video buffers?

Hello guys, I'm having problems playing video from a video capture device when not using JMStudio. When I use JMStudio, the video plays real time with no problems, but when I use code taken from a java book which is a simple Media Player, I get the following error:
"Error is Error: Out of memory for video buffers."
My capture device is working and I don't know why i get this error when trying to watch the video feed from a program other than JMStudio. I also tried different code that has worked in the past with the same exact capture device and I still get the same error. Please help, I have no clue at this point. The code for the simple media player is below, it's taken out of the book "Java: How to Program (4th edition)":
Thanks in advance, I am very greatful

When I type the locator, I am typing vfw://0, I also tried just vfw://

  • "Auto Play" feature for Videos on iPod Classic 160Gb

I have a 160GB iPod Classic, that just came out about a year ago, and it is updated with the latest firmware (or so says iTunes). I’m also using iTunes 8. I have also gone through all the usual help desk diagnostic processes, the ones in which they assume we, the consumers, are MORONS and cannot do the basic "self-fixes" prior to contacting them +(I have reset, then restored the iPod and have the latest version)+. I am still having this issue.
With my original iPod Classic I scroll to Video and click on one of the show’s folders within it, and by simply pressing the PLAY button while the folder containing the videos is highlighted, the iPod Classic would play ALL videos within that folder. Now, with the remanufactured one they sent to replace my defected one, when I scroll to Video, click on one of the subfolders and press play, a blank “play” screen comes up and nothing else happens. No videos play and no sound. So now, instead of being able to play all within the folder, I have to open the show’s folder, and click on the individual episode and play them individually instead of having an “auto play” feature as before so that I could leave the iPod alone and do other things without having to bother with it.
Is there a fix to this? Thanks!

I am not sure if we understand each other. I knew about all the fields under "Get info" feature and I have filled all of them. The problem is that the movies are not sorted according those fields in the iPod! I mean I can easily see list of genres in the music section of my iPod. But you can never see the same in the movies section! The only list which is available for movies is list of all movies sorted by title. You cannot for example see all movies with selected artist. You cannot see all movies from compilation "Holidays 2008". You cannot sort movies by genre.... I mean you can do it in iTunes, but it has no influence on iPod.

  • Plugin Container for Firefox has stopped working ~ DivX Web Player plugin crashed

    Hi Everyone,
Probably I should begin by saying anything computer-related is like walking blindfold in a pitch dark room. Seriously "tech-impaired" here (i'd go to someone who knows but tight budgets are a pain too... so if anyone here could help fix this I'd be forever thankful.
The first part of the title line is what appears to me in a little message window. YouTube and Hulu work OK, but there's this site "Icefilms (dot) info" -the one that I mostly use- that's the one with the problem.
It was all working just fine until last Monday night (June 20/2011) and it's not just with Firefox that I have this problem, cause when i tried to use Google Chrome it was the same thing, which makes me think it's not an Internet browser problem, I tried changing Firefox (5) to an older version, but instead of just the video widow, the whole thing crashes.

    Google Earth Plugin
    GEPlugin Outdated Version Update
    Plugin Icon
    RealPlayer Version Plugin
    6.0.12.69 Outdated Version
Still saying I need updates but when I update it says I have current versions already.
Also still keep getting plugin container for firefox has stopped working. But I'm not see a problem with anything.

I updated to iOS 5.0. Now each time I sync the "other" category of memory grows. It is now up to 7.5 GB and I don't have room for videos. I deleted a .3 GB video and the tried to put it back on. Now it says the memory is full. It seems to not release memory once something is deleted.

You need to restore your iPad now since "other" continues to grow with each sync. Something got corrupted when you were syncing and that is what probably caused this. This will explain how to restore.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1414
You can restore from a backup at the very end of the process - but if you restore from the backup and then the problem does not go away, you will have to restore to factory settings and then add all of your content back onto the device.
BTW ... Other contains all of your app data, bookmarks, contacts, emails, text messages, some game save data and things of that nature.

  • Powerful laptop for video editing?

Sometimes people ask what laptop to buy for video editing. My laptop has the following specification.
1 gigabyte graphics memory (NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M)
Intel core i7 3632qm CPU (quad core, 2.2 GHz with maximum 3.2 GHz).
5400 RPM hard drive in two partions C: and D:
    6 gigabytes with RAM
I use Windows 8.1, with Windows settings for maximum performance.
I have spent more than 200 hours editing a project which is about 110 minutes long.
RAM, graphics card respectively CPU have been no limitation. But my hard drive must often work hard.
Partition C: became full with media cache files since my project is so big. So in the future I will put the media cache files on partition D: For this project I solved the problem by deleting those media cache files which were no longer needed.
Alright, I have been forced to split up my long project into smaller pieces. So I have projects which each contains a few hours with raw material, out of which there is about 10 minutes on the timeline. For each project I export a video file. These files I import into another project where I join them into one video file which is 110 minutes long.
I find it inconvenient when PE 12 needs more than one minute to load a particular project. This is the reason why I split up my long project into smaller pieces.
To avoid confusion, I never use video transitions. And I only use video effects when I am forced to correct poor footage. So in each project there is at most about a minute of footage to be rendered. I mean, even though I don't render, PE 12 works well.
I hope this will help those who need to buy a laptop for editing.

    Thanks for the comments.
Sorry for this delay in answering. I didn't check if there was any comment because I didn't expect any.
    a.
I should had expressed myself differently.
No, I have not monitored CPU usage because it is the hard drive which limits how fast my laptop works.
There is one advantage with having a track for video expanded rather than collapsed. One can see what one has already put on the timeline without moving the cursor. If one waits until the computer has generated pictures on the timeline.
But I realized that with my laptop one has to wait uncomfortably long for those pictures to be created. So it is faster to move the cursor to that position where I have guessed that I have already put the footage I want to find.
    b.
I have not tested multiple monitors. Neither would I bother if CPU usage increased because it is the hard drive, not the CPU, which limits how fast my laptop works.
    c.
I have not used Premiere CC so I have not checked the hardware requirements.
Unless I have misunderstood something, Premiere CC has somewhat higher hardware requirements than Premiere Elements. Understandable since professional camcorders use higher bit rate (more information per second) than cheaper camcorders.
So presumably I would be forced to split up my projects in even smaller parts to make everything manageable. On the other hand, using footage which is intra frame compressed rather than inter frame compressed would mean that the hardware needs to work less hard, so perhaps it would be possible to edit long projects.
At the same time, some professional programs can work with proxy files, and in that case the high bit rate for professional footage would be no problem.
Besides, unless something is wrong with my memory, Edius has somewhat lower hardware requirements than Premiere CC, so possibly that program would be more relevant for usage on my laptop.
Higher bitrate means that there is room for fewer hours with raw material on my single hard drive. So with 100 Mbps I would in practice be limited to creating movies which are at most about 40 minutes long.
One advantage with professional video editing software is that it can edit video with higher resolution than 1920*1080. But I doubt that would work on my laptop.
    Thanks for your congratulations.
Yes it works. And after posting in another forum in my native language, another film maker commented that he had edited on a laptop with even less powerful CPU. For him it was also the speed of the hard drive which limited how fast his laptop worked.

    KT,
Thank you so much for your interest and response.  I think that I followed all the suggested 6 steps from the iBA user tip but to no avail.  Do you know anything about this comment by dmingo which is pasted below?
'User dmingo says this about that:
After audio tracks are placed in your book, you must 'Publish' the book from iBA (using the 'File/Publish...' menu) - that means re-entering all metadata from scratch - you can't simply import the .ibooks file into iTP. If you enter another audio clip at some time, you have to do it all again. '
To me it seems to say the video clips need to be delivered separately and one at a time.
I would be grateful for any advice

  • I cannot export! Error Message: "containing no video"

I am trying to export a 4 Minute video that I've created in final cut pro x and when I click Share > Export Movie from the project library (while being clicked on the timeline) nothing happens. When I try to Share to youtube or FB I get an error message saying that it cannot be exported to either of the two because it "contains no video".The only option from Share that seems to want to work is Email. The video plays great in the timeline and I've checked all 37 clips for the little camera icon as I know some clips may be corrupted but everything looks good. The footage was shot on my Canon t2i,the same camera I shot my last video with that I edited on this same Mac running this same version of final cut.I've considered that maybe the files were imported into final cut and then deleted from my Mac but then they would not be able to be edited in Final Cut,correct? I ahve not been able to find this error message anywhere on line and the problem is not that the share menu is gray'd out like i've read about on many other posts,I dont use compressor either...any help would be great!

  • Flas h for video

Hi I am thinking about using Flash for video streaming
instead of three formats (media player, real player and QT).
From a usability point of view it would be easier if users
didn't have to choose, and would be more cost effective and easier
to maintain for me to produce just one version.
However I have a few questions
    1. Would this video be accessible for assistive devices?
    2. How could I built the interface (would this come as a
    template within Flash)?
    3. Would users with older Flash plugins be able to view this
content without downloaing a new plugin?
    4. Do I need to use a streaming server? - I don't currently
because clips are just a few minutes long.
    5. Do all the necessary encoders come with Flash 8?
    6. Would I just import a QT movie into Flash and take it from
    there?
    Any advice would be welcome
    Thanks
    Steven

I've used video in Flash 7 so I can answer some of your
questions. Also Flash 8 is available as a free download trial for
30 days. So you could test some of these things yourself, for
    instance:
    1. Sorry I don't have a clue on this. I would assume you have
access to these devices so could do a few trials?
    2. There are prebuilt components that allow for fairly
straight forward publishing in both Flash 7 and 8. In both cases
they do add some unneeded size to the published files. (On the
order of 80K). They are somewhat customizable, but if you really
want to get into it you will probably need to do some custom
programming. See www.gotoandLearn.com for some great tutorials.
    3. For dynamically "streaming" video the user will need to
have Flash 7 plugin installed. If you use the Flash 8 video codec
(makes smaller better files) then they will have to have the Flash
8 plugin installed. I can't remember the exact statistics, but a
lot of folks (over 90) supposedly have the 7 plugin or better. Of
course with media player, real player, and quicktime there will
always be people who have to download to.)
    4. You don't need a streaming server. The "streaming" is
actually a progressive download. This means that it is all handled
with basic http requests. Certain types of servers don't recognize
the FLV mime type and will refuse to serve them. It is supposedly
fairly easy to add it to the recognized types – once you
figure out who at your ISP to ask.
    5. The necessary encoders come with Flash 8. I don't have
experience with them. But under 7 if you wanted greater control and
had a lot of these things to do I recommend looking into third
party tools. I got SorensonMedia Squeeze for Flash and was very
    happy with it.
    6. Sort of. Under 8 I think the FLV encoder is a separate
application. So you would use that the make an FLV which could then
be loaded dynamically by your swf. Also QT is just a "container"
technology. So having a QT doesn't really tell you what is in the
file. Muxed files will probably lose their sound. And some QT files
will have already been compressed. The double compression of making
an FLV will probably produce less than desirable results. You
should try and start with the highest quality files you can find DV
or better would be a good route.
