Contemplating BK7- lot's of questions

Hi everyone!  Started reading on this site and have found it very informative and I feel a bit better about filing but I still have questions that I haven't found yet here.  I am scheduled to talk w/an attorney tomorrow afternoon. A few years ago my husband lost his job and I became the sole provider.  He found a part time job and collected unemploymentt but that wasn't enough  Now he is self employed making decent money doing what he loves. During that time we survived off of my income, whatever he brought in and of course credit cards.  Last year once he was established in his new venture I started applying for cards here and there, then I made the mistake of obtaining personal loans. The approval rate and amounts became very addicting if that makes any sense.   Fast forward to now- $45k later- we are drowning and I'm kicking myself for poor choices- Debt to income ratio is way over.  We have 2 car payments up to date and we pay the mortgage on our home but with all the regular daily living expenses we can longer keep up so I am looking into filing Ch 7.  All credit lines are maxed out, store cards are not. 2 things- sadly I work for a CC company that we have 2 cards with.  The balances/CL is low on both and I thought about keeping them to save face if that makes any sense- is that even possible?  I am also afraid of loosing my cars but I read that you can reaffirm the loans?  But can I keep both is the question.  We need both to get to and from work plus we have 3 kids.   I guess in addition to my little questions I am looking for reassurance or anyone who has a similar story AND/OR can offer some helpful tips.  This is a great place, I thank you in advance for any help anyone can provide!   MBB1978Current Score reading on CK- 605

These questions would be best asked to a reputable BK attorney in your area.  You've done the first step and set up an attorney visit, so, see what they say. Now, the credit card piece can be tricky, since you work there.  Paying over a certain amount within a certain timeframe can be considered preferential treatment and the trustee can order the money returned to be distributed.  If, at the time you file, you have a balance on these cars, you ARE required to list them as a creditor in which they would get notice of your filing.  If you could pay it down before you file to zero balance, you would not have to list them as a creditor and they may survive your BK filing process - again, the question is how much and how quickly you do it - again, a qualified attorney would be your best bet. You more than likely can keep your cars under the state and federal exemption limits, but it depends on your lender (some lenders require a reaffirmation agreement or force you to surrender the vehicle) and your income. Good luck and keep us posted. Most of us here have been in your shoes - made bad choices or simply feel on bad luck/hard times.  We've all recovered nicely and can attest there is life at the end of a BK filing.

  • My credit building journey, lots of random questions, advise plz

    First of all, thank you so much to everyone here. I have spent the last few days reading. A lot of lingo to learn. (Luv button was my favorite) (or PYDBDB) haha. And its totally worth it! Basically my credit is fair/good. I was lazy in building it. Going through anti credit card phase just to be unique. Always paid in cash. Bad mistake. Basically the only neg on my report is 3 missed payments from 1 of my student loans (which is an ERROR). Everything else is in good standing. No chargeoffs. No collections. No bks. If you are in a rush, just look at my BOLD or underlined parts if you could please.
    care credit 6/13               CL $6800
    credit one 4/14                CL $850

     cap1 qs 12/14                CL $3k
    commerce bank 10/14     CL $2k
    amazon store card 4/15  CL $800
    sams club PLCC 5/15      CL $1200Amex Everyday 5/15        CL $5k util is now around 15%.
    If my oldest account is from june of 2013 (care credit), and my second oldest is from april 2014 (the credit one), my score is currently at EQ 669,TU 659 myfico of 688. do u think I really should close the creditone?  Has a $49 AF. I could probably close the credit one, but I just paid my annual fee less than 2 months ago. I think I should wait until a month before they charge the fee, and cancel it then, say march of 2016? I would not be where I am today without it. It has served its purpose.
    I am kinda thinking my average age of accounts is going to be screwed anyway with all these new cards, and maybe closing the creditone wont make that big of a difference, and then I can garden? My AAOA says its currently 2 years 10 months.. I really was NOT wanting the sams club private label credit card. I was hoping to get the synchrony bank master card and be able to get the special $50 off $100 deal and get extra cash back on top of our plus membership. They would not approve me even though I have care credit and amazon, yet give me a $1200 limit on a non master card. The other lady at the counter told me they never approve people for the MC version. It would have been foolish for me to say no to the non MC, since they did a HP, plus at that point I did not have amex approval, and only $1k limit on my cap1 qs. If my AAOA goes way down, I guess I have 30 days to cancel the new card and just accept the HP as a loss, right? I have 7 HPs on my TU, 2 on my EQ, but that does not include my sams club or AMEX applications from this month. Only 2 of the 7 are from the last 6 months.My score is so low because of a student loan error 90 days past due, even though it wasnt, and I have written in about 5 letters and can't get it removed. On all the simulators, I have seen my score would instantly be 740-780 without the error. Ugh. What should I do about this? Keep sending in more letters? When I call in the rep always says I wont have any problem in getting it removed but that isnt the case. I was even thinking life would be better with them being serviced by a new company, but heck no... Question,
    I am preapproved for a discover IT card, do you think I should go ahead and take it? I applied for one 3/14 and was declined only due to 80%util (thanks to my care credit for a relative). The EO I spoke with for the recon a year ago basically told me once my util is below 30 I would guaranteed get approved. I honestly don't need it. I do like their cashback, basically doubling it for car rentals or flowers..... maybe I should wait and apply for it once my 15 months of no interest expires on my new amex? After hitting the luv button on my credit steps cap1 qs (no AF) and going from $1k to $3k...I am thinking I could just do a lot with that card, groceries/gas on AMEX, and be fine.
    I cant believe some of the stuff I have learned about. Terms like Stoozing. People making money off of no interest cash advances by placing them in a higher yield savings account.  As tempting as that sounds, and not to be judgemental,  I think in the time it would take me to do all that I could focus my time and energy into something and make just as much money. But thats just me. I do love couponing/frugaling and I think its a unique/cool idea though.  I also enjoyed reading about app-o-rama's. That is an interesting strategy. I don't think with my scores I would have benefited from applying for multiple amex cards. Now Chase would be my ultimate goal, thats for sure.
    I gotta say, it feels so good to see others beating this defunct system. I can understand why some people are so proud of the cards they have, and their limits. But to me, it seems almost like its so hit or miss. As in there isnt much continuity. Maybe some people arent being totally honest about their past on other sites. Or really the system is just that broke. One year ago, I never would have though today my score would be 80 points higher, and that I would be able to have real credit cards. It requires self control. I would not be able to be so diligent it if it wasnt for my Amex Serve card. It is SO easy and simple to take money from one account, move it to the other, pay bills, even do couponing.
    Ok. So now I have some real cards. I pay my bills on time, usually in full, if not much more than the minimum, 12 days early, every month.  I avoid pulling triggers on the store cards because I read so much mixed info on them (but I gotta say the kohls card sounds tempting). What else should I be doing here to improve my credit? I own my own car, don't have a mortgage, etc. Paying on my interest for my student loans will help me financially overall. I guess maybe I could cosign on someone's car loan, which would be a big risk, but I know for a fact if they ever had issues, someone would take care of it. Since I rent, should I try to get added to a family members mortgage? I do want to have the ability to get a home loan or an auto loan without astronomical interest rates. I am not planning on buying a home in the next year.
    THANKS!!!

    "my score is currently at EQ 669,TU 659 myfico ex of 688" Well, that is kinda awesome! In less than a month of joining myfico two of my scores have went up 30-40 points. (and my new Amex TL isnt even part of that!)  I didnt even realize it.  Thank you to everyone for the great advice here.  I really took advantage of the SP CLI's.  I have nearly tripled my total open CL.   I also found out that my one 120 day late error on a student loan is supposed to drop off after 7 years.  Now on experian, it said the date was August 2016.  The other two said January 2016.  I wonder how big of a score increase I would see from that?  I am also a little frantic here because apparently disputing things like these can cause them to be closed and reopened, and taking a big hit on AAOA, at least according to creditboards. I am also thinking that 1 more HP from CareCredit could be worthwhile.  Previously they only HPd my TU.  Ask for 25k CLI and hope they counter for 15-20k.  They did take my 2 month old amazon and sams accounts limits from 800/1200 up to 6000/7000. My care credit will be a 0 balance in the next month or two and having 15-20k 0 balance would be awesome for my uitilzation, no? I have also decided my Commerce Bank Visa is slightly evil. While 6 months ago I never would have contemplated eliminating it (as it was my highest CC CL at the time) they are just crazy. They give people bonus points for accruing interest. Seriously?  Plus their points are only worth half a cent.  And now the awesome shopping portal is gone where you could get 10-15 or even 20x points.  No manual CLIs.  System initiated every 4-6 months.  Their banks are not everywhere but also not that far away.  Maybe I should initiate this loan with them?  They only offer real loans of $7k or more. Otherwise they have accessible lines of credit starting at $1k.  They do have decent APR for used/new cars starting at 3 percent for future reference. I am getting Citi Simplicity 0% for 21 months then 12.9% offers that have the opt out notice. Previously they were for Diamond Preferred and Doublecash at 0 for 12-18mos then 19%.  Credit pulls database shows sub 700 scores getting approvals but with very low CL.  Seems to me with citi if you are 740+ they automatically give you 3-5x the starting limit. I am preselected on capital one for the venture, 0 for 15 then 17.9, also another QS, and the platinum prestige.  I mean yes, I really could be using the extra room to push purchases through for the rewards without having to pay off during the month. I am wondering since my QS Visa in credit steps has a 22.9% apr starting in october, maybe my angle should be to see what I am preselected for in september, take the 3 HPs but apply for 2 cap1 products Then eventually combine. I dont want duplicates. I have no personal need for 15 cards with 25k limits. But... Short term 1- 6 month goals:1. Small loan 2. Complete one 3x CLI on AMEX3. Grow or Throw the commerce bank visa.4. Potentially apply for Citi Doublecash then Venture Longer term 6-12 month goals1. Close credit one in march2. under 5% util3. Learn statement closing dates TLDR: is one HP CLI worth it for a potential 20-50% increase in overall CL?

  • Lot's of questions...Looking for some answers

    I was wondering if anybody knows if this is do-able,
    or even worth trying to do.
    I have been producing local dance show DVD's for the past couple of years...
    Not in HD, but I do shoot with multiple high end 3-chip cameras,
    and the finished DVD's do have indexed menus for easy selections.
    Here's my question:
    I need to upgrade to HD equipment but I can't do it all at once.
    I'm thinking about purchasing a camera that shoots in AVCHD and was wondering how much of a headache it may become to edit combined with my present cameras.
    I'd like to intermix my SD footage with the new AVCHD foootage (converted to Pro-res),
    can this be done and multi-camera edited?
    Also,
    would I be able to set the HD camera as my wide shot,
    and then zoom in & keyframe my motion of this shot to follow the action in post?
    My thinking was that I could probably zoom in to about 130% and still have better
    quality than my SD cameras. (Also, my pans & zooms would be flawless)
    I have a G5 Quad (Power PC) running OS X 10.4.11
    and a Macbook-Pro (Intel) running OS X 10.5.8.
    Both systems are presently using FCP-6.0.4.
    So here are my questions:
    Is it possible?
    Is it worth it?
    And is AVCHD a good choice to upgrade to?
    Thanks for any & all advise/opinions,
    Todd

    The HMC40, or even something consumerish like the Canon Vixia, will shoot great looking stuff as long as it's not too low-light. AVCHD is automatically transcoded to ProRes upon Log and Transfer, so you shouldn't have to worry about that... though you'll save some HD space and increase your multicam streams if you upgrade to FCP7 and use ProRes (LT) instead.
    If your final output is SD DVD, then you can indeed zoom up on the HD footage a bit and do some simple keyframing.
    Multicam may require you to transcode your SD footage to the same codec (in this case ProRes), perhaps someone can confirm that.
    Too bad Apple sees fit to insist upon transcoding H.264 to ProRes, when Adobe and Avid have proven it's not necessary... (cough)

  • About to delete a lot of files--question before I do...

    I'm consolidating my iTunes library to a TB external hard drive into a folder called iTunes.
    This drive also has a folder called "Music" that has all of my music in it (it was the old backup).
    Once the consolidation is complete, I want to delete the "Music" folder. The problem is that it will be too large to move to the trash. I assume I'll just get a warning and OSX will let me delete it anyway? I want to make sure I won't mess anything up by trying to delete 1TB of files at once.
    Thanks

    Thanks. Coming from the PC world, I was expecting something like the old Windows error "There is not enough free space to delete the files. Delete some files and then try again" but it worked really smoothly

  • I'm sorry, you probably get a lot of questions similar to this, but how do I use my 09 27" iMac as an external 1440p monitor for a PC in TDM?

    Hello all,
    Firstly, let me apologise. You probably see a lot of these questions. However, I've had a look through and I haven't been able to find a solution to my problem.
    I have an '09 27" iMac which I use for the creative side of my life. (I'm training to be an architect.) However I'm also really into gaming, and so I've just bought a brand new PC. The GPU is a GeForce GTX 780 Ti with two DVI, an HDMI and a DisplayPort output. My iMac has a Mini DisplayPort jack.
    I'm basically wondering if there's any way of using the iMac as a 1440p monitor for this new PC. I tried connecting the PC to the iMac with an HDMI cable using an HDMI to MDP adapter and hitting cmd+f2 on the iMac to initiate Target Display Mode, but that hasn't worked. I'm now thinking of buying an HDMI to MDP direct cable to see if that works but I'm also wondering if a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable might work too? I was under the impression that the 780 Ti had a MDP output but the version of mine only has the outputs listed above.
    Is any of this even possible? I've heard reports in the past of people having success with MDP to MDP from PC to iMac but of course I can't do that. Am I wasting my time and money here?
    At present I'm using my 37" HDTV as a monitor on my desk but as you can imagine, it's far too big to use in the long run! It's annoying because the 780 Ti is capable of running max settings easiliy in 1440p and having to downgrade from the iMac to a 1080p HDTV is disheartening.
    Any help would be very greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Westy

    I know this is old - but did you ever get this working. Thinking of getting a 780 ti card and I have an older mac with the mini-displayport too.

  • A lot of questions about my MacBook Air

    I am really new to re-using Apple computers.The last time I used an Apple computer was back in 1987 when the school and my family had Apple IIGS computers. I have been using PC's which reqiure Microsoft. I a lot of have questions (10 questions) about my MacBook Air and I hope you good people can and will help me.
    Product: MacBook Air
    Operating System: Mac OS X Version 10.7.4
    1) I Downloaded MacKeeper because I was fooled. I had a bad feeling just before I Downloaded it and I should have listened to my heart. However, I didn't buy it or fully Install it. It was like a test run and then they wanted me to pay almost $100 for it. Thankfully, I didn't because I read it is Malware. I spoke with an Apple Tech at Apple Care and he helped me get rid of it (or so we think). I don't see it anymore on my computer. I read it can slow down your computer. How can you tell if it's really off of the computer?
    2) When I open "Finder" and I see that there are people Sharing my computer with me. I went into AirDrop and it reads, "Other people can see your Mac as (my name) MacBook Air when their computer is nearby." I bought a HotSpot and while it's turned on and I selected it as my WI-FI connection I thought it would  get rid of these people, protect what I type, me, my items, computer, etc. But it didn't.
    I didn't know that I have to buy a exteral CD and/or DVD Player in order to connect to the brand new Modem and Router in one by NetGear. I am so used to PCs and the CD/DVD Players being built inside.
    The people at Apple Store told me that there is an internal modem inside, but I don't know how to find it and what to do then.  Should I use a Firewall?, An AntiVirus, AntiMalware, AntiSpyware, etc. Apple Care tech told me I don't need to get an AntiVirus.
    3) Is there a new kind of Wireless Modem and Router that doesn't require a CD-ROM?
    4) When I travel or fly and I am not close to home I was told by Best Buy and Sprint that I had to buy a mobile HotSpot to use the computer (WI-FI) safely. As I typed, I have one. But it's pretty expensive and only gives me 1 hour and 15 minutes per day to Stream. What can I do to use this computer safely Online when I am out of range from a Modem and Router? What do people do when they travel on airplanes?
    5) This compter won't let me use "Raid." I think you have to have a newer version. I hard about Raid on the radio from Leo (can't recall his last name) who's a Tech expert.
    6) Should I buy a ZipDrive? Apple Store Tech told me that I didn't need a ZipDrive. I just remember the episode of HBO's "Sex and The City" when Carrie looses everything because her copy crashed. Now, of course, I know that's a fictional show, but with PC's and Microsoft I have lost everything when it crashed, frooze up, etc. I know there's iClouds. I heard about Carbonite, but I have read the Pros and Cons about it. Mostly they are Cons about it. I just don't want to do anything wrong and mess up this computer.
    7) Should I buy a new Printer/Copier/Scanner because mine is an HP. It's not new, but it works. I even have a CD-ROM for Macs. What about the new product called, "Neat"?
    8) Is there a special product that I should buy to do Online Banking and/or other important stuff?
    9) I saw and read about iWork in the Apps Store and it sounds cool. I still have alot of friends and colleagues who still use Microsoft. Is iWork good to use? Should I Download it from the Apple Apps Store or can a buy it at Apple? Is there another Word Processing Program that is great and user friendly and will work with Macs and PCs?
    10) Should I Update the OS with OS X Mountian Lion Pro from the Apple Apps Store or buy it at Apple Store?
    In advance, I wish to thank you in this Apple Support Communites for your help.  Have a safe and happy holiday weekend!

    1) Here are instructions for removing MacKeeper. Since it mostly consists of manually looking for folders and specific files, if you follow the instructions you either fail to find what you are told to find (because your AppleCare guide gave you complete instructions which you followed) or you'll find some additional files that need to be replaced.
    2 & 3) I assume you are looking at the sidebar of a Finder window and seeing Shared and computers under it. Those are computers that you can potentionally share. To do so you'd need an account on their computer and a password. They are not sharing your computer.
    AirDrop allows you to create an adhoc network for filesharing and it only functions when you have selected the AirDop item in the SideBar. Actually doing that merely announces to computers in the same network node that your computer is available for a file to be sent to. Even then you have to explicitly allow the file to be downloaded to your computer. Similarly you'd be able to see other computers with AirDrop selected and be able to send them a file - which they'd have to accept.
    The only reason your NetGear Router comes with a CD is to install and run their 'easy' step by step configuration program. It can also be done manually with a browser. Read the manual to find the IP address you must enter to access the router's configuration menu. Apple's WiFi routers don't require a CD to install the software because the configuration software is already on your computer.
    I do have my firewall turned on. AntiVirus software isn't a bad idea - I use Sophos having tested it for a review for our local User Group and I found I liked it better than ClamAVx which is what I'd been using before. Both are free.
    4) I think you were scammed by Sprint and BestBuy. I use hotel, coffee shop, and restaurant WiFi spots and have for years. However, because they can be unsecured, I do not shop online or bank when I'm using them. I also use 1Password and don't reuse passwords so even if a sniffer should grab an account and password that's all it would get - one account.
    5) Raid doesn't really make sense with a MacBook Air - a RAID involves 2 or more disks being used as if they were one.
    6) Zip drive? No. External hard drive - yes. It isn't a question of if a computer's hard drive will malfunction, it is when. OWC has a nice selection of external drives and the Mac has a built in backup system called TimeMachine. Due to the way TimeMachine works, I've found that your TimeMachine drive should be at least twice as large - and preferably 3-4 times as large as the data you are backing up.
    7) if your printer works and it has Mountain Lion drivers, why replace it?
    8) Online banking is done with a browser - Use Safari or FireFox
    9) If trading files with Windows users is important Mac: Office is your best bet. If not, iWork, Mac:Office, or LibreOffice are all good possibilities.
    10) you can only buy Mt Lion via the App Store.

  • Questions from a PC user regarding MacBook

    I'm contemplating 2ghz/512mb MacBook & have questions. I was going to order one tonight but thought I'll first post here.
    a. Will third party memory, 1gb x 2 from vendors like MemoryTen, work? Any recommened vendors?
    b. Can I use most of the usb2 peripherals from the PC side?
    c. I'm guessing the reliability of the hardware is same for Mac or PC. If lemon then it should show in the first couple weeks of extensive use.
    d. I posted this question in the iChat AV forum but can one switch between different "feeds" to use for the iChat (via configuration of iChat) if you have more than one webcam plugged in?
    e. For running virtualization apps like Parallels, 2gb will be good amount of ram to have.
    Thanks,
    Tak
      Windows XP Pro
      Windows XP Pro

    Most of us here recommend third party RAM as buying it from Apple tends to be more expensive - especially if you are going to max it out at 2GB. I got 2GB of Patriot RAM from New Egg and it works very well. I also use Patriot in my iMac, so I know it is good stuff.
    Others to consider are Crucial - of course - as well as OWC. In fact, the guys at OWC are my local "Mac Guys" and I recommend them for almost everything. They have excellent pre- and post-sales support and are so easy to deal with.
    Most USB stuff will work, but there might be one here and there that might not. If there is something in particular, check out the manufacturer's site or ask here for specifics.
    Since Macs and PC use a lot more common hardware than they did before, I would expect reliability to be about the same. The difference is that Apple is a leader in the industry for tech support and service where some PC manufacturers leave a little to be desired.
    I can't help you with iChat. Sorry.
    Maxxing out the RAM is relatively affordable - I got mine for $160 - and the benefits are big with Rosetta (the translator program that allows you to run PPC-coded apps on your Intel-based Mac) is a RAM hog and Parellels can have as much as you want allocated to it. It runs very well on my BlackBook with 2GB.
    I suggest that you take a look at the refurbs from the Apple Online Store. I saved $200 on mine and I still get the one year warrantee and the option to buy AppleCare to extend that to three years. With the money I saved, I was able to get the RAM and still get it for less than I would have paid new. My BlackBook was flawless and works perfectly well.
    If you have any more questions, please post them. This is a great place to ask and learn. We'd love to have a few new users around here that are willing to be "old hands" in training - LOL!

  • MSI Big Bang Marshal - Questions

    Hello all
    I am new here and I have been doing research on components for a new computer I am making a shopping list for. I have a few questions I have not been able to find any information online. Here goes
    1. Anything specific I should know about the motherboard other then whats in the specs? Problems, quirks, etc?
    2. Does the motherboard only support 2x Dual Video cards like 2x Nvidia GTX 590 or can I use 4x Nvidia GTX 480s?
    3. P67 motherboards with the nf200 on them support 24 pci-e lanes. if I use:
    PCI_E1 - 8x
    PCI_E3 - 8x
    PCI_E5 - 8x
    PCI_E7 - 8x
    Makes up 24
    But there are still:
    PCI_E2 - 1x
    PCI_E4 - 1x
    PCI_E6 - 1x
    PCI_E8 - 1x
    Left. Does that mean there are no lanes left and I coudnt even fill anything in the other 4 slots like PCI-E Sound, etc?
    4. If you do Dual, Tri, Quad-SLI and have a PhysX card, how many PCI-E lanes will your PhysX card consume? Is it set by the NVIDIA control panel, the number of lanes of the chipset divided by the mount of video cards or by the card itself?
    5. When people say Dual, Tri, Quad-SLI +PhysX, does it mean (Dual -1(PhysX), Tri -1(PhysX), Quad -1(PhysX) or does it mean (Dual +1, Tri +1, Quad +1)?
    6. I know Scalability of increasing arrays of video cards is pretty poor, but could I do Quad SLI +PhysX using the MSI Big Bang Marshal?
    7. Which is most advantageous, Tri SLI +PhysX, Quad SLI, Quad SLI +PhysX?
    8. Sorry, probably not related, but I wanted to do Raid with SSD's for very fast reads and writes yet have redundancy. I wanted to get some OCZ Vertex 3s and I was reading about how Raid 5 was interesting but apparently Raid 5 increases the degredation of SSD? Has anyone experienced this or have any suggestions on best raid configurations?
    Thank you for all of your help

    By my count, that makes 32 lanes. If not done so, a lot of pre preparation information can be gathered at the MSI Global Website. All the basic & more detailed information can be found there. The downloadable pdf manual is usually much more comprehensive than the manual that comes with the board as well, & can probably answer a lot of your questions. I don't believe the board can do Quad GTX 480 SLI.

  • Upgrading to  Mountain Lion Pre Install Questions

    HI:
      I will be installing Mountain Lion Next week.
    I have read through many of the turotrials and quired most of the following  I still have a few questions.
      I have some concerns in particular regarding the contents of my mail boxes and mail.
    I have backed up unto an external harddrive using time machine. When I click on the mail app I can't access it and see if the contents are there. I just get a window showing the specs.
      From what I have read all my documents applications and system info are backed up.
    1} Will the contents of Mail Inbox and personal Mail Boxes be either on the external drive or in Mail itself after I upgrade?
    2} Will I need to up grade iWork  and other Mac programs after the upgrade?
    3} Does time machines automatic backup, back up everything or do I need to do a manual back up for some thing?
    4} Will I need to load new drivers for external devices such as my printer and mouse?
    5} Will I need to reload third party soft ware such as Adobe Elements 9?
    6} Will my bookmarks and homepage be saved in Safari?
    Lot's of Questions, I have limited broad band width and will need to do most of this from a friends and internet cafes so I need to be prepared time wise and finanancialy as some things will have to be done at home and are going to push me into the next teir of my flex plan, possibly past the final teir.
    Any and all advice will be appreciated.

    1. You have a backup of your mailboxes in Time Machine that you can restore, but Mail won't modify your mailboxes during the upgrade. The first time you open Mail after the upgrade, it will upgrade your mailboxes to be able to work with that new version.
    2. If you upgrade from Snow Leopard, you should know that there's a newer iWork '09 version for Lion and Mountain Lion that make it compatible with iCloud, so you will have to install updates for iWork at least. Respecting to other apps, you have to consult it with the developer.
    3. Time Machine makes a backup of everything in your OS X partition, and it makes automatic, hourly backups. If you want, you can also make a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner or Disk Utility's Restore feature in another external disk. The advantage is that you can start the Mac from it.
    4. Theoretically, Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion use the same printer drivers. Respecting to the mouse, if you are using a third-party mouse, you have to consult with the developer if your mouse is compatible with OS X Mountain Lion.
    5. Third-party apps won't be deleted unless they aren't compatible. See > http://www.roaringapps.com
    After downloading OS X Mountain Lion, I recommend you to make a bootable copy with Lion Diskmaker, so you won't have to download OS X Mountain Lion each time you have to reinstall OS X Mountain Lion

  • Hey guys, I have a question about Web Design

    I have been trying to learn webdesign for a few months now, and so far, I am still learning HTML and some CSS. At the moment, my experience is still very thin, I am struggling with things, and I only know how to create simple, static pages. For example I still don't know how to produce "clean code". Or how one determines just how "clean" the code he has produced really is.
    I was wondering if someone could answer a few questions I have:
    I am still not sure how I will know when I am competent enough to work in Web Design... What are the best signs that an individual is good enough?
    I was also wondering what programming language I need to know to do the following:
    Create a WORKING Site Search. One like the search bar in the top corner of this page that will return search results from your website... Do I need to know how to program PHP? I've heard that you do need PHP to do this? The same goes for creating e-mail forms, and other forms like this. Do I need PHP for this?
    Another thing is CMS systems like Wordpress and Joomla. What is the reason for using these as opposed to just designing a website's pages in Dreamweaver, and then uploading them via FTP to your web server?
    And finally, can someone explain to me why CSS is groped like this when it is coded? Why has the Div ID "OuterWrapper" been styled multiple times?
    For example: #outerWrapper #feature {
    #outerWrapper #subcontentWrapper {
    #outerWrapper #subcontentWrapper #rightColumn {
    ^ Couldnt the designer simply have styled "~OuterWrapper" once and left it at that?
    Please see below:
    #outerWrapper #feature {
        height: 225px;
        width: 880px;
        margin-left: 0px;
        margin-bottom: 5px;
        background-image: url(images/feature.jpg);
        background-repeat: no-repeat;
        background-position: center top;
    #outerWrapper #subcontentWrapper {
        padding-right: 15px;
        padding-left: 15px;
        clear: both;
        padding-top: 20px;
        background-color: #FFF;
        padding-bottom: 40px;
        border-top-width: 4px;
        border-right-width: 4px;
        border-left-width: 4px;
        border-top-style: solid;
        border-right-style: solid;
        border-left-style: solid;
        border-top-color: #F90;
        border-right-color: #F90;
        border-left-color: #F90;
        background-image: url(images/footer-fade.jpg);
        background-repeat: repeat-x;
        background-position: bottom;
        height: 100%;
    #outerWrapper #subcontentWrapper #rightColumn {
        float: right;
        width: 220px;
        background-color: #DBE7FB;
        border: 1px solid #DCDFE4;
        margin-bottom: 15px;
    Also, regarding Javascript: How exactly does one become proficient enough to learn scripting for the thousands of little widgets, and navigation bars, and other functions that Javascript can do out there?
    I know a lot of these questions are strange and may be hard to answer, but I am really hoping some of you guys can provide some helpful advice/direction for me to improve with code. I studied as a Print Graphic Designer, and now it's really hurting me in this economy trying to find a job due to the fact that I lack full competency in Web Design... and the longer it takes me to get better at this, the slimmer my chances become at finding work!
    I really need help on this, so I would be extremely grateful for detailed and informative answers. Perhaps some links to very good video tutorials on learning how to effectively design webpages - Common things like Javascripted navigation bars, image slideshows, how to design working site search forms and contact forms, and how to use Wordpress. I ask this because there are so many terrbile tutorial videos out there (I know from experience) and it is next to impossible for myself, a beginner, to tell the good ones from the bad.
    Thankyou guys.

    CMS's like  WordPress, Joomla! & Drupal are popular open source (PHP & MySql) frameworks.  They contain all the backend PHP code needed to create a dynamic web site that contains capability for advanced functions:  site search, on-line editing, shopping carts, member log-in sites, blogs with comments, scripted contact forms, and so much more...
    The allure of Open Source frameworks is that they save developers time and money.  Instead of building everything from scratch (which can take months), an experienced developer can usually install WordPress on the client's server and be up & running in a few hours without customizations, or in a couple of weeks with customizations.   A firm understanding of PHP, how to set up a server-side database, backing up MySql, CSS theming, and HTML code are required skills to work with these frameworks.  WordPress is probably the easiest to set-up; Drupal is for more experienced coders.
    I am still not sure how I will know when I am competent enough to work in Web Design... What are the best signs that an individual is good enough?
    You're ready when you can look at code and understand what it means/does. Being able to problem solve, identify mistakes and fix them on your own is a must have skill.

  • Just bought a Mac Pro...I have SO many questions!

    Ok, so I ordered a healthy version of the Mac Pro this morning. 250 GB HD, ATI x1900 card, 2 GB Ram, bluetooth/airport, 2.66GHz etc. Now I have a few questions since I want to know the tech side of things more clearly than I do.
    1) RAID: I'm studying to become an editor, so I love Final Cut Pro and know it extremely well hence my Mac Pro purchase. Now, my question is about RAID drives. I'm buyin 2 320GB drives, I already own a 500 GB drive I'll put into the new computer and it comes with a 250 GB drive. Someone sent me to a wiki about RAIDs, but it wasn't clear to me at all. In layman's terms, what is it and what do I do to make it work?
    My understanding is that it takes my 4 drives and makes them one big 1.4 terrabyte drive. Is this true? If so, when I just place them into the computer does it automatically do this? Or is it 4 separate drives until I do something about it? Does RAIDing make the drives faster? I also hear there are different numbers of RAIDs. Basically, given my situation, what would I do and how does it benefit me. Also, is there a different way of treating the computer if you have RAID drives?
    2) I bought an ATI x1900 and it has 4 DVI ports, but the apple site says it's for 2 apple 30" displays. Since there are 4 ports, can I plug in 4 24" dell displays? (not that I have that many, but basically can I plug in 4 single DVI connector monitors into the 4 DVI spots)?
    3) Is there RAM that works with it yet that Apple doesn't sell themselves?
    4) I've heard there are Boot Camp driver issues. Couldn't you just install Windows XP Pro and just find all the drivers for the components online yourself? Would that work?
    5) Would Win XP look at all 4 drives as a RAID drive or as 4 separate drives?
    6) My shipment says 3-5 weeks, but some people already got their Mac Pro. Do they overshoot? Or are there just that many orders to fulfill now?
    7) Can someone direct me to an affordable speaker system that has an optical input so I can use that feature on the Mac Pro?
    8) Beyond the 4 internal drives, can you install an eSATA card and get even more drive space by using eSATA or is there a cap of memor?
    I think that's all the questions I have. I am so grateful to anyone who reads over this and answers them. I know it's a lot of BS questions, but I'm trying to get the most out of my purchase and trying to understand more of the tech side of things so I can become a better editor. Thanks!

    1. RAIDs
    First, you normally should not include your startup system on a RAID because if the RAID goes down you cannot boot the system or repair the RAID easily. Better to use one drive for the operating system and RAID the other drives for data storage. You can easily create the RAID using the OS X Disk Utility application. Instructions will be found in the DU help.
    2. Video
    Not familiar with the card, but presumably if there are four ports you can connect four monitors.
    3. Third-party RAM
    Yes, but what's currently available does not meet Apple's specifications for use in the Mac Pro. However, you should see third-party product showing up very soon. OWC (www.macsales.com) has apparently gotten some inventory just today. Crucial and Kingston should have product also in a short time. You might also check www.datamem.com. They did not have inventory yet, but probably should in the near future.
    4. Boot Camp and Parallels
    This is correct. Apple is aware of the problem so you should see fixes coming soon. Parallels is also aware of the problem and believes they will have a fix for Parallels Desktop shortly.
    You cannot run Windows without one of the above.
    5. Would Win XP look at all 4 drives as a RAID drive or as 4 separate drives?
    Don't know. Don't much use Windows. However, if the RAID is formatted Mac OS Extended then Windows cannot see the drive because it cannot read Mac formats without third-party software. As far as I'm aware you cannot create a RAID on the Mac using FAT32 formatted drives, nor would you want to.
    6. My shipment says 3-5 weeks, but some people already got their Mac Pro.
    No. If you placed a BTO order (other than the standard configuration) then your order takes longer. If you buy a standard configuration they ship ASAP.
    7. Speakers.
    Search Google.
    8. eSata card.
    Can't answer this question, I don't know.

  • Hard drive and FCP question

    I got lots of short questions and a semi bigger one.
    I plan on editing HD and standard definition video with my iMac using FCP. My hard drive is 130 gig and I need a bigger one. My current fire wire ports on my iMac are both 400mb/sec and that is too slow for HD and I was told I cannot get that upgraded. The guy at an apple store told me iMac's use lap top hard drives and there is no big improvement from my current 130 gig.
    I looked my hard drive up and I believe it is actually a desktop hard drive if I'm not mistaken. The model number is ST3160812AS. So does that mean I can get a desk top hard drive upgrade? If so I was looking at the Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 750g 7200 rpm. Is that a good choice?
    How do you upgrade to a new hard drive anyway? Who installs it? Me or can I get a professional to do it for me for a small fee? How do I get all the current data on my hard drive on to the new one?
    Where I usually do most of my editing the computers have two hard drives. One to hold the footage and transfer the data to the other one which is actually doing the editing. My film teacher says this is the best thing to do, but obviously I can't do that since two hard drives in my iMac is out of the question and I can't get a fire wire port fast enough to support a hard drive that isn't just for storage. Can that hard drive I was looking at handle doing the two processes on its own? Do I have any other options?
    Thanks in advanced.

    The maximum burst speed of FW400 is about 393 MBps \[typo: 393 Mbps\] and sustained
    transfer rate it near that.
    You shouldn't worry about the transfer rates on FireWire as much as the drives.
    Most hard drives are not going to be able to sustain transfer rates of 100 Mbps --
    you probably need an array for that. It's moot, however, if you are using consumer-grade
    HD (with rates around 25 Mbps).
    Very useful info on the video data rates on various formats, JDM -- thanks.
    However, I'm a little confused by the disk drive data rates you quoted. It appears that
    the numbers you mentioned are actually MBytes/s (MBps) rather than Mbits/s (Mbps).
    The OP's current internal HD (ST3160812AS) is a 160GB Seagate 7200.9 family drive
    spec'd at 83MBytes/s max sustained throughput. (That applies only to the outermost
    tracks, when the drive is nearly empty. It'll be about 40MBytes/s on the inner tracks.
    So, when nearly full, the internal drive is about the same speed as a FW400 external.
    The 750GB Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 is slightly faster (ca. 85-90MBytes/s maximum,
    when empty, and half of that when nearly full). That's fairly fast as today's large HDs
    go, but not quite as fast as the new Seagate 7200.11 family drives (105MBytes/s max)
    or WesternDigital's WD7500AAKS (98MBytes/s, max) -- but they're all more than fast
    enough to saturate a FW400 link, even when the external drive is nearly full.
    BTW, from the spec sheets, I see no indication that any of the four drives mentioned
    here are "green." They all have similar power requirements; if anything, the Hitachi
    consumes the most power, and the Western Digital the least. (That seems to agree
    with tomshardware.com's observation 7K1000 drives run hotter than most others.)
    It is nice to see that today's fastest 750GB drives consume no more power than the
    best-performing 160GB drives of a few years ago.

    Don't attempt to replace the drive in your iMac. Keept it for the OS and software

    Good advice! Regardless of the size of your internal drive, save the data-flogging
    for the easily-replaceable external drive.

    CTCM-Certificate Missing
    Pls correct my understanding in case i am missing something
    Thanks in advance

    Is the status in the GR document have the cert field set as 5?
    Since you set the "certificate check required" you must do an explicit check of the cert.  I included below the help screen from this indicator in SPRO.
    You should be able to review the status of your cert in transaction QC53.
    FF
    Explicit Inspection of GR Certificate Necessary
    If you set this indicator, at goods receipt the system will generally perform as described in the field "Control without certificate".
    This means that even if you confirm the certificate receipt at goods receipt, and thereby set the status "2 - Certificate received", the system will still perform as specified in the field "control without certificate". See Control without certificate.
    You must explicitly check the content of the certificate recieved at goods receipt and set the status "5 - Certificate filed and inspected ", before, for example, the inspection lot status will be set to CROK.
    You can confirm that you have checked the content of the certificate in the certificate transaction or when making the usage decision.
    Note
    If you have set the indicator and chosen an unsuitable setting in the field "Control without certificate", the goods receipt can be generally blocked.
    This security function is generally used at electronic certificate receipt to check the accuracy of the certificate contents.

  • Buying Question!

    Not sure if this is the place to ask this but since most everyone on this forum may own a Mac Mini I will.
    I have an almost 11 year old B&W that I have upgraded to a G4 and no longer can upgrade. And, so I am thinking of finally replacing it. Actually my plan is to use it as a media storage unit at my home theater. I download HD video thru the firewire connection of my Comcast cable box.
    I record Blu-Ray discs (onto DVD-Rs using Toast 9). My point being I play with HD video a lot and my question is will the Mac Mini do the job? I have been to the Apple store and tested a Mac Mini using the m2t (HD@720p) files I get off Comcast. The Mac Mini seems fine. I have been planning, if I buy a Mac Mini, to get the 2.0 ghz, 320gb version with 4 gb of memory.
    I did see a slight difference when going to the iMac with the better video processor but not worth the extra money especially since I, not long ago, purchased a new 20" LG monitor.
    Any recommendations, comments, etc that anyone has concerning the Mac Mini and playing with HD video would be welcome.
    I thank you all for reading this post and thank, in advance, those who may have anything to share.
    Sincerely,

    3. Bought a WD Blue 500 GB hard drive from NewEgg $85
    Pretty easy install.
    Total $784 that's $15 cheaper....but look at the difference
