Content aware leaves a reflection on selection.

When I specify where the replacement content should come from it looks right as I am selecting it but when I let go of the mouse it makes a reflection of the nearby objects.

I used quick selection tool to select this section of the brown sheet. If I try to use content aware it doesnt get the correct background.
And how should the function be aware that the wall is the content you want instead of the content that actually borders the selection (the sweaters for example)?
In my opinion you are not using the tools best fitted to the task.
I’d recommend
• lifting part of the wall on a Layer of its own
• putting that in a Group with a Layer Mask that combines the brown textile and the white wall
• moving the Layer into position to cover the textile and more or less match up with the wall
• applying a Layer Mask to the Layer, too, and painting it in in the lower part with white
• if necessary using a Clipping Masked Curves Layer to adjust the brightness
Another option would be to lift the content you want onto a Layer of its own and then use Content-Aware Fill.

In my experience you get an outline when
    a) the selection is not large enough, and/or
    b) the feathering value is too small.
I get rid of such outlines by
    a) increasing the selection by let's say 5 pixels (>Selection >Modify >Enlarge) but the amount is dependant on how big your selection is in relation to the image, and I migh tincrease the selection by 10 pixels if necessary;
    b) increase feathering to maybe 5 pixels.
You have to play around with these values a bit. These are not hard rules; every image is different. With time you will know intuitively which values to choose.
But sometimes you can't avoid to clean up with the clone tool afterward.

  • Photoshop CS6 bug: content aware is not longer working

Seems that the latest update of Photoshop CS6 broke content aware, which now produces a black result.

Thanks for the tip, but it does not applies to the issue I run into, as I'm using the "delete" command and not the tool (which seems to be working fine).
    Sorry for being vague.
Also, this happens only when working in 32bit: in other bit depths the delete with content aware works fine as well.
    Steps to replicate the bug:
    open a 32bit document
    select an area
    delete use content aware
instead of filling the selected area with content aware it does fill it with black.

  • Content Aware Stopped Working

Recently my content aware feature stopped working. It worked for about 6 months and then stopped functioning correctly. I tried deleting and reloading the software, and this also did not work. I select an area to fill and choose content aware and it will only fill it partially.

Ok..here is a before and after. In this example I am trying to eliminate the watermark I have applied to the photo with Paint program. I completed this 100 times before this problem started a few days ago. You see that content aware only glazes over the selection.

  • I have just downloaded Photoshop CC 2014. However, I don't see these 2 new features: Content Aware Color Adaptation and Select Focus Area

I have just updated to PS CC 2014. However, I don't see these 2 new features: Content Aware > Color Adaptation; and Select> Focus Area
There're not there, not listed. What am I missing? Thanks.

  • Moving the selection in Content Aware Move tool

I have a semi low light image of a person standing on a beach .. he is on the wrong side .. I select him with the selection tool, and then try to use the Content Aware Patch tool to move him to the right .. but only half of the selection moves
It is a little strange because the person is pure black (contra jour) and I am trying to move him to a section of the image which is fairly similar

I think you want to try out the Content-Aware Move Tool, not the Patch Tool. The Patch Tool is used to remove subjects, not move them.
The Patch tool does a great job of copying selected pixels to a new location when in destination mode.  The new CA Move tool is a variation on this that uses CA Fill to fix the space thos pixels were copied from.   In actual fact the Patch tool is still doing a better job that CAM at seamlessly copying pixels with the distortion CAM seems to introduce.
Martin Evening introduced a really neat trick using the Patch tool in Destination mode.  I have actually managed to find a pdf of the relevant chapter in and old version of Photoshop CS for Photographers on the Pixel Genius site:

Check out page four.  The secret step is nudging the selection after using FT and moving it.  That's what prompts the seamless intergration at the new location.

  • How much of a selection to get best Content-Aware results?

In CS6, I want to remove an arm from an image that is on a wrinkled sheet. The fact that it is on a wrinkled sheet is good because the wrinkles seem pretty random. What is the correct way to use the Content-Aware tool. Should I be trying to make a selection around just the arm with just a little bit of the background/sheet OR should I make a selection of the arm with a lot of the background/sheet for the Content-Aware tool to work best?
    Thanks in advance.

You basically want to just make a selection of the thing you want to remove. So stay as close to the arm as possible. If you grab too much of the background around it, it's like telling content-aware you want to remove things that look like that bit of background as well, which is not the case. Now having said that, it doesn't hurt to give a little bit of distance just to make sure that all of the arm, including any blurry pixels, arm hairs, etc, are encompassed by the selection. And often if it doesn't do it in one shot, content-aware may do most of the job, then you simply make another selection, tight to the new area that's still not what you want and run it again. Sometimes after, 1, 2, or 3 attempts you can finally get the pesky thing content-aware-d away.

  • Content Aware fill in selection

    Hi,
I am having two problems mainly, if someone could help it would be great.
    1. I have 2 documents open, one of them has a selection. I want to copy that selection and transfer it over to the other document. I am not sure how to do that.
    2. I want to content aware fill the selection. Is this possible using applescript?
    thanks.

Are you asking how to do that in a script in an action or in Photoshop?  Also are the two document the same pixel size  and resolution?
    In Photoshop
First make sure the documents have the same print dpi resolution.
A selection and an Alpha channel are basic the same thing so in case you have not created the alpha channel version of your selection use menu Layers>Save Selection and Fill in some Name in the pop up dialog and click OK. Then use Ctrl+D to deselect
Go to the channels palette and highlight the new alpha channel with your saved name. Then drag the channel and drop a copy on your second document.
In the second document use menu Select>Load selection use pull down to select your saved selection name.
In an Action you can not record a drag from one document and a drop on a second document. You need to use some other method.  One way is after creating the alpha channel, deselect and highlighting the new alpha channel is to do a Ctrl+A select all Ctrl+C copy the go to the second document channels Palette the click on the add new channel icon in the bottom of the palette followed by Ctrl+V paste.
In a script that for you to do....

  • Content-aware move cursor should reflect use of Shift- or Alt-

It appears that I can modify the content-aware selection using familiar techniques: Hold the Shift key to add areas to the selection, hold the Alt key to remove areas from the selection.  I think it would help if the cursor changed, much as it does with the regular lasso: Add a plus or minus sign.

You can use any of the selection tools to make the initial selection.  Then use the Move tool to drag to new location.
Although your point does sound valid to me.

  • Healing brush is not showing content-aware selection in CS5

Help. The healing brush is no longer showing the content-aware selection in CS5. What is wrong here? Have I changed a setting that I am too inexperienced to know about?

Well, duh! I thought I had done that. Thank you very much. I feel a bit embarrassed to be so inept.

  • Is there a way to do a content-aware rotation?

I have some objects in the edge of a wide-angle shot and there is the expected distortion. The b/g is pretty simple and instead of losing the space from fixing distortion, a content-aware rotation would be ideal. Is there a mechanism for this? There is move and scale, but not rotation, it seems.

I put up a link yesterday that will give you a workaround.  Check out page 4 from this link.
    http://www.pixelgenius.com/tips/evening-healing.pdf
I have tried it in CS6, and unless I have miissed something, you'll need a workaround for the workaround
So select the Patch tool, and set it to Normal (not Content Aware)  Set it Destination, and make sure Transparent is unchecked.
Select your source pixels, and copy to a new layer, (this step is optional - will discuss later)
Select the BG layer, and with your selection still active (if it turned off when you copied to new layer, Ctrl/Cmd the new layer to reload the selection)
Ctrl/Cmd T to bring up Free Transform
Move to the new location, and rotate; change size, whatever, and hit Enter.
Nudge the selection a tiny bit which will activate the Patch and blend in new location.
This has made a copy or the source pixels, so if you want rid, turn off the new layer, select and expand the white hole it leaves, and use CA Fill to fix.

  • Can't get Content Aware Extend to work

Read all the tutorials but when I make a selection and select content aware extend it just moves the selection without extending it.  Need to find some way get it to actually extend?
After making a selection, the "move" and "extend" options appear to do exactly the same thing.

OK, I got it working now but it does not work very well, or as expected.
This is more of a move and replace tool rather than an extend.  It is labeled wrong.   While the move tool fills in the space left behind, this sort of leaves the selection there and duplicates the selection to move.  Not very useful.  Can be better done better with the clone tool.
This tool also errors out quite quickly as you mentioned by moving the selection too far yet does not tell you.   The problem is there is no feedback from the SW that it has errored out and can't do anything.
What would be helpful would be to create a REAL extend tool that duplicated repeating pixels between the selection and the current position.

  • How content-aware fill with smart objects

I've done a (hopefully) fairly exhaustive search, and don't see anything on how to use these things together...
Open an image as a smart object.  Add a layer for cloning and healing.  Maybe add a curves adjustment layer and/or a hue/sat adjustment layer.  Adjust things as needed.
Decide you want to extend the background on one side.  Increase the canvas on that side.  Select the chunk of canvas.  What process should be used to employ the content-aware fill for that new piece of canvas?  I don't seem to be able to have the smart object layer selected.  If I have another layer selected the fill fails saying there aren't enough opaque (?) pixels.

Oddly, I can't even find any discussion on this anywhere...  There's got to be a better way than what I've tried so far.
At present the only way I've found is to
    duplicate the smart object
    rasterize it
    select the part to fill
    do the content-aware fill
leave the selection on and copy/paste the selection so it's on a new layer
delete the rasterized copy of the smart object
There's gotta be a better/smarter/faster way than this...  How are other people doing this?

  • Content aware not working

HI all I've got a copy of CS5 extended and for somereason content aware is no longer working.
    here is an example:
To the left you can see the white area I am trying to fill, so I realise this is a big area and select only a portion, making sure I've got enough of the sky to make a good copy and then go shift backspace or edit>fill and get up the content aware dialogue.
And up comes the dialogue box, I press ok and nothing happens?
Anyway know what this is about.  I can go in and clone it but this seems wierd.
    Thanks
    Sj

It's not a good sign, when something doesn't work then does after restarting the app.  It's possible the panorama stitching process left some corruption in memory or used up some resources that were needed for Content Aware Fill to work.
These latest "gee whiz" features Adobe has added to Photoshop always seem a little less stable to me than the rest of the product.  In some cases I know they're packages they purchased, rather than engineered themselves, so the level of integration might be a little lower behind the scenes than with the "native" features engineered in-house.  In practical terms, this means you probably want to save your work often, in several different places, and maybe even restart Photoshop after doing "big" things.
And to be fair, Photoshop relies heavily on OpenGL, and the OpenGL implementations done by the video card makers are not always perfectly stable - this can leave latent corruption in Photoshop's memory causing problems later.  If you've had unexplained trouble, it's always a good idea to check to see if your video card maker has published a newer display driver for your hardware on their web site.
Do you have a lot of free space on your scratch drive?  I know that the panorama stitching process can use a LOT of scratch space.  I ask because running out of scratch space might cause unexpected failures.
Also, how much memory do you have, and what are your settings in Edit - Preferences - Performance?
