Content Cleared From iPod When Updated Software. PLEASE HELP!

When plugging my 5th generation 30GB iPod into my computer, a notice popped up asking if I wanted to update my iPod software. I clicked yes and a little less than 10 minutes later, my iPod was supposedly all "updated" and "OK to disconnect." According to my computer, everything was updated and all of my content (music, movies, photos, podcasts) was on my iPod. However, when I unplugged it from my computer, my iPod did not have any of the music, movies, or podcasts on it but it did have photos. I then tried restoring my iPod to the original settings but it didn't change anything. I have no idea what to do now and I am desperate for my music back on. I've only had my iPod less than a year.

Hi... recently my computer crashed and everything has been deleted.. i am running on a new computer and i can not update my iPod or else i would lose all my songs.. If your iPod is set to update automatically you just need to take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod, the transfer of purchased content has recently been introduced with iTunes 7. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not have caught up with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay.

Kernal Panic when updating. Please help

So I have 2 macs an old flat screen G$ and a new 24 screen intel Mac. My new one is fine but I wanted to update my old G4 I already had Mac OSX 10.4.05 on there but I wanted to use 10.4.7 so I could use the latest itunes. I don't have that one hooked up to the Net so I used my 10.7.4 start up disc to update it. However, it went through as normal then crashed giving me the Kernal Panic screen. Aside from a lot of numbers it came up with Panic CPU0 Unable to find driver for this platform. and ended in Panic were hanging here. It also told me to use the power button to restart, I tried this and it comes back to this screen. I can't get the disc out and can't get it to restart. I'd be happy to have the old OSX and have it working. What do I do??

First, if the 10.4.7 disk is not a generic version, then it won't work. The one for your iMac will not install on any other machine. Second, to get the disk out, hold the mouse click down, until the disk pops out.

How do i transfer files from ipod to pc? please help!

I have recently purchased a new laptop and i need to transfer all my files from my ipod on to it (especially music). i followed the instructions on the itunes/cloud page but when it said to "locate the item" none of the supposed "items" were there. i have purchased a lot of music from itunes and do not intend on losing my money. I also have a lot of other music i spent alot of time transferring from disc to ipod. my ipods software also needs updated from the old ios5(yes, 5!!) to ios6 as the software is starting to not work correctly. help would be very much appreciated as i feel like throwing my laptop out the window and telling apple to go do one.

I don't know which page that you looking at but you should be able to copy your iTunes purchases over from it via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. But music from other sources (e.g. copied from CDs), then you don't have your music on a backup drive or your old computer (copying music , they should work for other content in your library as well) ? And for documents or other files you may be able to use the via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, via your wifi network, email, dropbox etc - whatever the app that they are in supports.

My ipod classic only syncs upto track 46. I've tried deleting that track but it's a different track every time and it always stops at 46. My ipod stops saying syncing and just says connected at that point - but my computer still says it's syncing the ipod. Anyone have any ideas?

Only Apple knows when the next release of anything is and they haven't said. Speculating on future release dates would be a violation of the terms of use of these forums.

Try downloaded the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 standalone updater and installing it.

iPhone do not do automatic update. You have to manually trigger the updates.
If your Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Automatic Downloads > Music, Apps, Books are ON then when you purchase any new content/item with any devices/computer iTunes, it will automatically download. Switch it OFF if you do not want that to happen.

Problem when updating software

Hello, I've failed at two attempts to update my IPOD software to Ver 4.2. Each time, after downloading the software, it goes into "Backup Mode" and stays there for an inordinately long time. The process simply repeats if I stop the backup and restart the Update.

You need to "authorize" the Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac then from the iTunes menu bar top of your screen click Store > Authorize This Computer.
Now, using the same Apple ID as you used to purchased iTunes media originally, you should be able to sync all your content.

Try the Boot Camp Assistant when you are in OS X and download those and follow the directions in BCA utility.
Then look up the Boot Camp forum. I suspect you thought this was MBP related forum, it is for 65 lb tower model (and well the new "nMP Late 2013 Mac Pro" http://www.apple.com/support/macpro/
