Content Distribution problem

having a bizarre problem and not sure where to even look for logs/solutions of this problem.
I try to distribute a package to the DP (I'm running a single primary server) and it "succeeds" but doesn't actually do anything. The monitoring section doesn't show it as distributing/distributed.
If I tell it to distribute again, it appears as if I never even tried to distribute it.
Any ideas?

After performing the distribution action, look at the distmgr.log to see what is happening.

  • IPhone Content Distribution

    Hi,
We have software that has 2 parts to it. One part is the actual application and the other part is content for the application. Examples, of similar applications is mp3 players and mp3s, eBook readers and eBooks, etc. We sell our content and not our application. We are trying to figure out how to sell our content for the iPhone. We see a few possibilities
    1. Bundle the content with the application and sell it on iTunes. We will certainly do this for our top content. However, this would require us to maintain over 400 applications on iTunes with 100's more on the way. This is just too costly for us to post all of our content to iTunes and maintain it. The other problem is that users will want their content to work together. So if they buy product A and product B they will want the content from both to work together. As far as I can tell right now the sandbox will prevent this, but I haven't done a lot of research on this yet.
    2. Sell some content on iTunes and sell the rest of the content from our web site. We would NOT sell the actual application or any plugins to the application from our web site. We would just be selling content. The user would get the application from iTunes and then the application would download the content they have purchased from our web site.
Does anyone know if number 2 is permissible? As best we can tell from the SDK license agreement we can't sell plugins, applications, or unlock codes from our web site. We would be selling content for our application, but we are not sure if this is acceptable.
Consider a company like mobipocket (www.mobipocket.com). I doubt they are going to post their 30,000+ titles bundled with their reader to iTunes as separate applications. (I guess they would maybe do it if there was an automated way to do it). Or consider a company that wants to sell subscriptions to different newspapers. Does anyone know what kind of distribution model Apple will sanction for these situations?
    Thanks,
    Stephen

    Scott,
Your proposal is the solution we have been thinking would be the best as well. We were looking at the SDK agreement and we were not sure about the following sections
3.3.2 An Application may not itself install or launch other executable code by any means, including without limitation through the use of a plug-in architecture, calling other frameworks, other APIs or otherwise. No interpreted code may be downloaded and used in an Application except for code that is interpreted and run by Apple's Published APIs and built-in interpreter(s).
3.3.3 Without Apple’s prior written approval, an Application may not provide, unlock or enable additional features or functionality through distribution mechanisms other than the iTunes Store.
So we were really wondering about 3.3.3 "enable additional features or functionality through distribution mechanisms other than the iTunes Store." Would content distribution over the web be considered enabling additional features or functionality? We would not be enabling different features or functionality in the software with our content. However, the application would display different data and information to the user based on the content that they purchased.

  • [SCCM 2012] Content distribution to DP's successfull status then in progress

    Hello,
Had 70 DP on my infrastructure. A distribution group with around 200 contents is created and 70 DP are link to this DP group.
Every day I check the content distribution status, and the global pourcentage go up and down.
IE: Monday a DP is fully synched and the day after 10 contents are "in progress" and I have this thing on all DP's. Looks like that content distribution are done again an again....
Two weeks ago I had 15 DP fully distributed and now only 3... and no changes on the contents...
So I don't know what is the cause of  this. Any idea?
    Thanks in advance

We seem to be experiencing this issue in our environment and I just want to try and understand whether this is a bug that only reflects on status messages, or if the status messages reflect on the actual content, and thus, application and task sequence deployments?
I believe this is becoming a serious issue.
When the "Content is being distributed to the distribution point" messages first started surfacing, we noticed that certain packages (but not necessarily all), were being sent to all DP's, even when some of those packages weren't assigned to that
particular DP or the Boundary Group set up for content to that DP (we are viewing this in SCCM 2012 Monitoring | Distribution Status | Distribution Point Configuration Status, and the Details tab.) The biggest issue right now is that this recurrence of packages
redistributing, is causing task sequences to fail from distribution points that didn't actually have content redistributed to them.
And yes, validating content individually on those "in progress" packages does remediate the status message and eventually green light the DP. But validating content every time a DP is stood up, or content is distributed is becoming painstaking.
And scheduling Content Validation to occur more frequently only seems to be a band-aid that will not always help.
Is there any additional information on this malformed status message that can be provided? Is Microsoft working on a fix? We have not yet upgraded to SP1. Can anyone confirm the issue is resolved with SP1 or later, or if a hotfix exists to address the problem?

  • How to debug file content conversion problems?

    Hi,
I'm trying to debug a file content conversion problem.  I'm mapping a few nodes in an IDOC to a file of fixed length fields.  I'm using the "<Node A>.fieldFixedLengths", "<Node B>.fieldFixedLengths", "<Node C>.fieldFixedLengths", etc. parameters to specify the fixed length records.
However, a certain node (for e.g. Node B) is causing a problem and if it is present in the IDOC, the output file does not get created.  Upon checking the XI monitor, I notice that the file gets mapped correctly and thus the problem lies when the file adapter does the file content conversion.  How do I debug this because there is no descriptive error in the XI log?  If this node is not present, the file gets generated fine.
    Thanks,
    Basant Gupta

    Hi,
If your SXMB_MONI shows, success status, then go to RWB->Message Monitoring->Message display tool and then check Audit log for the analysis,
So it wil help you debug the situation.
If there is no error, then check RWB->Component Monitoring->Adapter Monitoring for you file communciation channel..

  • Automatic Content Distribution issues

Hi I am trying to test On Demand Content distribution in my environment and its not working. Feel like I am missing something obvious. Also I read over this article:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/neilp/archive/2013/01/03/on-demand-content-distribution-fallback-distribution-points-a-2012-configuration-manager-micro-depp-dive.aspx
    My 2012 test environment:
1 Primary site with co-located DP (Subnet in BoundaryGroup1)
    S01 (Secondary site 1) with co-located DP (BoundaryGroup2)
    S02 (Secondary site 2) with co-located DP (BoundaryGroup3)
Only one subnet and one DP is assigned/member in each Boundary Group.
All my packages are set to ‘Distribute the content for this package to preferred distribution points’ and fallback is NOT enabled on the deployments
TestPackage1 is currently deployed to Primary site and S02 DPs. I have a client being managed by S01 and want to download TestPackage1. In the cas.log and execmgr.log it states No DP found with the package and deployment fails. The deployment is set for "Available".
When I look at the distmgr.log on both Primary and S01 I dont see a DMB file created and package is never deployed to the S01 DP.
    Thanks for the help.

Can you please zip mp_location.log and distmgr.log on site S01 to SkyDrive? I need to take a look at there logs.
    Suspected causes:
    1. The instruction file has not been dropped by MP.
    2. The instruction file has replication error.

  • Content protection problem

Hi. I've got that content protection problem when downloading from blackberry app world. Every time I try to download something, a message comes up that says, "An error has occurred communicating with the BlackBerry App World Client. If you have content protection enabled on your device, please disable and try again,". I'm sure a lot of people had this problem and many of them have had their problem solved, but i've already tried solutions like disabling the encryption and doing the battery pull but the message still comes up.
Are there any other solutions that I can try?
    Thank you in advance

  • Content Distribution Challenges

Content distribution is driving me a up a wall here. We've been pounding our heads against a desk for the last two weeks.
Long story short - one primary, seven remote DPs, varying WAN speeds. Also have one CloudDP.
    Software distribution works fine.
Content distribution to the remote DPs and CloudDPs is NOT working fine.
When distributing content to the CloudDP, I get this from the pkgxfrmgr.log

When I remove the package and redistribute, there's a very good change it will succeed.
When I distribute to remote DPs on our WAN, I get the same "returning null/empty download address from content upload...." error.
Any ideas? I do have a ticket open with PSS, but lately it seems they are very overwhelmed.

I have seen the same a few times in different environments. I have also contacted Microsoft, hopefully I will get an answer soon. I know it might not be the answer you are looking for but now you know you are not alone.

  • Content Distribution Fails

I have an issue where an application failed to distribute to 1 (EAPSCCM) of our 12 DPs so I removed the content from DP which it failed on as the redistribute option was failing.
However now I am not able to distribute the content back onto that DP, we are using distribution point groups to distribute the content to all the DPs. If I use the redistribute option on the DP group it doesn't add EAPSCCM back into the group.
I have also tried to just add it back onto just EAPSCCM instead of using the group the wizard completes but it never starts transfering it.
Even creating a new DP group with just EAPSCCM in doesn't add it into the targeted list when you look at content status.
What can I try to get this working? It is on a slow link as EAPSCCM is located in Australia our Primary site is in the UK.

    Hi,
Could you see the application listed in the content distribution jobs when you use DP Job Manager tool?

  • Extended Content type problem

    Extended Content type problem
I want to extend the content type 'ExtendDocument' from 'Document'.
So I use 'Oracle Internet File System Manager' to create a new Class Object named 'EXTENDDOCUMENT', which is extend from 'DOCUMENT', and add a attribute 'EXTENDURL'.
This Class Object's bean class is 'ifs.beans.ExtendDocument' and server class is 'ifs.server.S_ExtendDocument'.
I create these 2 java class and put the class files to ORACLE_AS_HOME\ifs\cmsdk\custom_classes directory.
As I want to set the object type as 'ExtendDocument' when uploading a file which expend name is '*.wmv', so that need to change 2 default value 'ParserLookupByFileExtension' and 'IFS.PARSER.ObjectTypeLookupByFileExtension'
    So I add 'name=wmv, datatype=STRING, value=oracle.ifs.beans.parsers.ClassSelectionParser' to ParserLookupByFileExtension.
    And then add 'name=wmv, datatype=STRING, value=EXTENDDOCUMENT' to IFS.PARSER.ObjectTypeLookupByFileExtension.
After done above actions, i restart my oracle application.
I use CUP to upload a test file 'test.wmv' to CMSDK repository, and its type is 'EXTENDDOCUMENT'.
But if I use FTP or WebStarterApp application to upload 'test.wmv' file to CMSDK repository, then its type is 'DOCUMENT'.
Why and how to change to make FTP and WebStarterApp application can upload *.wmv file's type as 'EXTENDDOCUMENT'?
    anybody can help me?
    thanks.

"Alternatively you can use ServletContext#getMimeType() for this. It guesses the content type based on the mime mapping as it is been definied in the web.xml of the application server and the webapplication. If it returns null, then you need to add new <mime-mapping> entry to the web.xml."
I would try doing it this way. Try including entries for the mime mappings in the deployment descriptor of the web application.

  • Content distribution issue with message "Found package properties updated notification for package '00000123'"

I've got strange issue with 1 of my primary sites that started just recently.  I've updated the content of 1 package and this now needs re-distribution to all DPs.  I've got 3 primary sites and on 2 of those the update succeeded and my DP's got
updated correctly.  One primary site it does not work and checking distrmgr.log I can see following message every xx minutes

Checking Pkgxfermgr.log does not show anything either,  I've tried with 2nd application but again the same result it only shows the the notification message.
I saw similar issue yesterday but with restart of the sms_exec service it eventually distributed the content, obviously this is not something I like to do too often.
does anyone have idea what this could be, suggestions are welcome.   Thx.

When I check monitoring - content distribution I can see the package being updated/distributed to 80% of my DP's and last 20% are the dp connected below this Primary site.
To add to the confusion, there was another package distributed around the same time, and then one actually made it to the remote DP's.
This is first time I see this issue.

I am trying to enable alerts for content distributions on Primary Site Servers
Example: I have 1 PS server and multiple DPs and i am distributing/validating multiple packages from my PS Server to Multiple DPs on schduled basis.
The issue is for some reason if the content distributions/validations fails then i should get email alert (currently i am behind on Console or Offline Reports).
I tried creating custom Even Logs through status message filters which is not working
please help if anyone have already done alerting for failed content distributions

  • Content Distribution for updated Packages and Applications failing on DP's

    Hi all,
Since installing SP1 for SCCM 2012 we have noted that our content distribution success rate has gone down considerably
We have a CAS, 5 Primaries and 78 DP's hanging off the various Primaries
The issue is with existing content by which it is failing on 90% of DP's when we update a package/application. Please note when we push out fresh, brand new content we get a 100% success rate
This is causing us a bit of a headache as we regularly update our OSD driver packages aswell as the security update packages
When we redistribute or update content we are presented with the below 'retying rename of' on random DP's with the content eventually erroring out
Each DP is the same, by which windows 2008 OS, Antivirus which is configured not to scan the D:\ volume and no mirroring enabled or alike configured
Is anyone else experiencing the same issue on content push?
    Regards

Did you upgrade your DPs from 2007?  If so, I'm experiencing the same issue.
I've filed a bug on Connect, please feel free to say you can reproduce it.  I'm not sure how much help that would be, but it probably can't hurt:

  • Tweak SCCM 2012R2 for faster time to content distribution to DPs

    Hello,
SCCM 2012R2 with 1 primary site and 140 DPs.  I would like to reduce the total time that it takes to have content fully staged on all my DPs.  To that end, I am interested in tweaking SCCM to be more aggressive and send out more content at one
given time.  My primary server doesn't get taxed (RAM, CPU, Disk or network).
I'm aware of the "Content Distribution Settings" with "Maximum number of packages" and "Maximum number of threads" under "Software Distribution Component Properties."
What do you run these at for your primary site? (particularly if you have many DPs)
If I raise either to an absurd level, where would I see the bottleneck/failure? (my assumption here is that I can back down from this side of absurd and monitor this bottleneck)
Do you recommend adjusting the retry settings?
Using the "Distribution Point Job Queue Manager, I can see that 78 of my DPs have double digit retries.  5 DPs have triple digit retries.  -
What is a "normal" amount of retries?
Can this number be reset so that I can evaluate with it's incrementing?
In summation, my goal is to allow the primary sccm server to use more resources to get the content staged out in less time.  If I'm not asking the correct questions, please do let me know.
    Thanks for your consideration.

#1: just tweak those settings yourself and monitor the outcome.
#2: the network will get saturated and there will be a high load on the disks
#3: it depends (on the availability of the remote DPs and WAN links; 100 is usually enough). Content distribution is only retried if an error occured so you should not see any retries unless something is wrong.

  • Content replication problem to secondary site

    Hi,
I have a problem with SCCM 2012 R2 replicating packages to a new secondary site.
The new secondary site server was installed a week ago.
The SSS was added to a DP group that had 713 packages assigned to it.
Throttling is configured so I was expecting it to take a few days to replicate however a week later 180 of the packages are still in progress.
All of the outstanding packages have a status of "The content files for the package xxxxxx have not yet arrived from the source site CAS. Distribution Manager will try again later to distribute the content" and the last status
time is about when the SSS was added to the DP group.
The parent primary site server is not a DP however it must have all the packages because they have successfully distributed to DP's in the primary site.
The environment looks healthy with no alerting component or site status messages.
The distmgr, sender and spooler logs on the parent primary show no signs of re-trying the packages
It looks like the package distributions have been forgotten.
I went to the properties for one of the problem packages, and selected to re-distribute to the SSS. Activity started straight away in the primary servers logs and the package was successfully deployed.
So my question is how can I kickstart the system back into life for the paused 180 package deployments just to the SSS DP without going into every package in turn and selecting re-distribute.
I guess I could write a powershell script to do this but hopefully there is an easier option
    Any ideas would be appreciated.
    Thanks
