Content Encoding Error - Firefox 8.0 - Win7 Ultimate 64 Bit

Content Encoding Error - Firefox 8.0 - Win7 Ultimate 64 Bit
I'm completely hooked on Firefox, so I only know how to use it, however I was forced to switch to IE, because I have a virus any that only leaves me open these two.
But in Firefox 8.0 recently updated pages take 4 or 5 times longer to open and when they open is full of errors. Clear the cache only solves by 1 min! lol

You can get a "Corrupted Content Error" error if there are multiple location redirects send via the HTTP response headers or there are other errors in the response headers.

  • Firefox gives me "Content Encoding Error" when trying to navigate through websites.

I have been having trouble when using Firefox. I am continually getting a "Content Encoding Error" when trying to go from my home page to another page or even just going from the main page of a website to link on that site. I can't access facebook, yahoo mail, charter, google mail or any site without getting the "content encoding error" message at some point when on these sites. I am able to use ff on other computers in my house without any issues. I can't even run ff in safe mode. When I try to refresh some pages I get a box asking me if I want to open the application or save it to my computer. I never clicked anything saying I wanted to open it, I was just trying to refresh the page to get back to where I was. Is there a way to go back to the previous version of ff to get rid of the problem? Does that even fix the problem? Can someone please suggest something that I haven't tried so I can fix my problem? I didn't start having these issues until I got (at the time) the latest version. It has been giving me trouble for about 2 weeks now. Thanks

  • Firefox gives "content encoding error" for multiple sites (mostly forums), however, wget can open those sites just fine

I am working under a corporate proxy server, so this might influence the problem. From home i can access the sites just fine. From here - it gives "content encoding error" on different kinds of forums. For example, http://www.freeallegiance.org/forums/index.php?act=home
I tried to download wget and could download the website htm file just fine!

I also have this problem. I believe it is caused by being connected through a proxy which is adding a second compression to the data. (I think IF uses gzip compression already).
    Added details:
    * Opera also works.
    * I can view the IF admin section on FF
    * I can view the forum if I go through a web proxy.

  • Content Encoding Error Message re invalid or unsupported form of compression

After installing the last update, when I would attempt to go to various websites, even google, I would get this message on some sites not all. I did not get on IE or chrome.
    "Content Encoding Error
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.'
    This is what I did.
    Open Firefox
    1) in the address bar, type: about config 2) promise to be careful 3) type in the filter bar: encoding 4) double click on the value column of network.http.accept-encoding 5) change the 'string value' from "gzip, deflate" to "true" (I had to type that in.) I found that on another string that was closed that the moderator said not to do it or it could mess things up.
I do not know if issue was caused by last update as add or remove programs in control panel does not show Mozilla updates so I could not uninstall last udate. Only other thing I had done was reinstall Real Player Plus with Real downloader and Speed-bit accelerator as I was having trouble downloading flash videos from web pages mainly from Firefox. (Chrome in its wisdom playing god disabled the addon without even asking me so I could not use Chrome for downloads-they said something about not knowing publisher or certificate--"Real Networks"!!! maybe Google-Chrome does not want users of "You Tube which I think it owns to be able to download offf it with competitor or sort of competitor's applications.) I do not know that the Rel Player re-installation had anything to do with the Firefox error message-just contemporaneous in time as was the Firefox update that I only knew about as Firefox let me know I had to restart to finish installation of update.
After ten minutes after making changes re config it seems to be operating OK

After leaving my computer on all night with Chrome and Firefox both open but doing no downloading, etc., I noticed that Wincows Task Manager icon was all green showing 100% CPU usage. I opened Internet Explorer 8 which had been off all night. I looked at Windows Task Manager "processes". It shows firefox.exe with cpu at 86 to 95, iexplore.exe two instances, both at at 00-02, and chrome.exe (2 instances) both at 00. Realpaly.exe also left on all night after burning multiple Cds 6 hours earlier was also at zero. Nothing named speed bit had an active process, but videoacellerator.exe and VideoacceleratorService.exe both of which I allowed to stay in a startup folder were both at 00. Firefox is not downloading videos etc. It has two windows open, one at eBay and one support.mozilla on this issue(content encoding error). This all started occcurring after the latest Firefox update that necessitated the restarting of my computer. I have th two Firefox extensions that like T=Real Downloader allow downloads of flash videos on web pages and neither one was active Flash and Video Download, and Flash Video Downloader the former had been active for several continuous days downloading multiple video clips but had been turned off before I went to bed. After an hour typing this things are still the same with Firefox the CPU hog , still at 84-97, chrome.exe and iexplore.exe still both under 05. For some reason with the recent update tht required restarting the computer Firefox has become a CPU hog and is not working properly withprograms (Windows downloader and Speedbit) and has the content encoding error message issue as wll as sometimes IE not able to go to some pages. My CPU icon in taskbar is teill all green, and can't close firefox without a lot of hassle as that is what I am typing this on.., but I bet that when I do total CPU usage goes to 20 or so and system idle process is the only process with numbers over 80 for CPU.

  • Beehive Online: How to Resolve Content Encoding Error or Invalid Login?

    Hello,
These questions relate to the following Beehive Workspace:
    Workspace: Synopsys_Spice_and_FastSpice_Simulation_and_Analysis_Workspace
    Login: [email protected]
The Login "[email protected]" is a valid workspace member for the workspace: Synopsys_Spice_and_FastSpice_Simulation_and_Analysis_Workspace
. This login has been used successfully for about 6-months to exchange data between me and the user. On a recent login attempt the user gets the following error from FireFox:
Content Encoding Error: The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.
A similar error is issued when using Chrome or Opera. IE comes back with an unable to reach server error.
What the user has told me is that she recently reset her password. Afterwards, the above error after the login screen.
A few other points that the user has told me that do not make too much sense to me. The user claims that the system gives an invalid "login" error when she uses the email address: "[email protected]". The user claims that the login that she needs to use is "[email protected]". However, the email that is registered is "[email protected]" on the page: https://beehiveonline.oracle.com/teamcollab/participants/Synopsys_Spice_and_FastSpice_Simulation_and_Analysis_Workspace
Any help on how I can get her email address "[email protected]" to work properly for the workspace Synopsys_Spice_and_FastSpice_Simulation_and_Analysis_Workspace
    would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Pouya

    Hi,
Her email "[email protected]" is the one she has to use or the content encoding error will be returned. It is an ugly erro but it means the user has a valid sso account but not a valid BeehiveOnline account - If she is using "[email protected]" then this is invalid and will generate the error.
There are 2 accounts in the wwldap system - one for each and I think the user has confused the account/password combinations - Nothing has chnaged on the system and the "[email protected]" account is still valid and active.
I checked the logs and she is using the wrong username and getting the 304 error returned:
    access_log.1342612800: [email protected] [18/Jul/2012:13:05:31 -0600] 1 "GET /teamcollab/library/Oracle/Synopsys_Spice_and_FastSpice_Simulation_and_Analysis_Workspace/Documents HTTP/1.1" 500 304 "-" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:14.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/14.0.1"

  • User gets an Content Encoding Error message when trying to access workspace

    Hi.
I've created a workspace and added several users to it who can access it without any issues.
However, one specific user (Leslie Elstad - https://beehiveonline.oracle.com/teamcollab/profiles/[email protected]) can't access her workspaces. She is using Firefox on a Solaris 10 machine.
Here is what she told me:
"I clicked on the Start button under Team Workspaces, which took me here:
    https://beehiveonline.oracle.com/teamcollab/
and displayed the familiar Content Encoding Error message."
    Please advise.

    Hi.
Please let me know what is going on when we add people to a Beehive Online group (Solaris Curriculum).
People are frequently getting this same error/message when trying to access several workspaces.
New cases, please help me fix their access:

  • Why does Content Encoding Error appear always, even when home page is selected?

The Question summarizes the problem that is prevelant in thousands of Firefox downloads as witnessed by the same thousands of people in your Question Forum. You must know what the heck is causing this and how to fix it. Version numbers are meaningless. This problem appeared last year and no cache clearing or cookie cutting or re-downloading or anything else will fix it. Why do you do nothing to solve this error?? I don't like IE8 but I have no choice, I need a working browser.

I think I found something. When loading a web page it's looking for 128 bit (or something like that) encryption. An example that works every time: If I type java.com in the address bar I get that "Content Encoding Error" box.
If I type http://www.java.com I get the same thing.
If I type https://www.java.com It works
The same thing happens with other sites. A few have http and still work. the ones that don't work but I change the address to start with https load properly. Ok maestro what gives? and how to make it work all the time?

  • Is Firefox compatabile with Win7 Ultimate 64 bit OS

I am currently using Windows 7 Ultimate - a 64 bit OS and want to know if Firefox is compatabile with this.

Yes, use the 32 bit released version of Firefox that you will get automatically, not the 64 bit version that you would have to search for.
To download Firefox go to http://www.mozilla.com

  • Hi There, nearly every time I try to load up a page in my browser I get this message: CONTENT ENCODING ERROR.

I've tried all the tips that have been suggested on here and other websites but nothing seems to fix it. I'm currently running the new windows operating system. Could this have something to do with it?

You can check the network.http.* prefs on the about:config page.
Reset network.http prefs to the default value via the right-click context menu -> Reset if they are user set (bold).
    Check at least:
    *network.http.accept-encoding (default: gzip,deflate)

    * "Remove the Cookies" from sites causing problems: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences Edit > Preferences] > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

  • Content encoding error message

    Hi,
I have created a group, and added 40 pax. They all are shown in the system as "verified", but still, they can't login. They have tried everything (all browsers, all connections).
I logged a SR, they could not fix the problem, and pointed to this forum. Could you please help? My group is "Going for the Big Deal Vision".
    Thanks,
    teresa

One of the users had some characters that tripped up the script - fixed it and they should all be there now.
Remember the default workspace is Going_for_the_Big_Deal_Vision_Workspace - if you remove the spaces you break the linkage and users will not get added to the Workspace as they are added to the group.

  • 64-bit Nightly v29 and Firefox v26 under Win7 64-bit are so slow for streaming, achieving only 4% of BW otherwise achieved by the sam firefox under Win7 32-bit.

Under my Window 7 64-bit OS, I've installed both Nightly Build v28 and v29 to perform "internet speed test" and each time, I can only achieve something < 2 mbps for my home Wi-Fi, gateway router which is about >56 Mbps. The only working Nightly version was v23 that could achieve close to >52 mbps. But once I update v23 to higher version, all the normal high speeds I could achieve at Nightly v23 are gone. The same issue plagued also firefox v26 under Win 7 64-bit.
For clarification, this is not true under Win 7 32-bit OS - the same firefox v26 works fine to achieve the raw BW speed close to and >56 mbps. WHy not in 64-bit OS seems to be the main question?
What's going on? I greatly appreciate you looking into and helping me out on this dilemma. Thanks!
    Sincerely
    Shao Ma

hello Shao Ma, when you are using speedtest.net or a similar flash-based site to measure your connection speed then it might be an issue with the protected mode that [http://blogs.adobe.com/asset/2012/06/inside-flash-player-protected-mode-for-firefox.html adobe has introduced] for its flash plugin for firefox. some old versions of f-secure or trusteer rapport are known to cause such slowdowns together with flash, or it might be something similar on your system that is interfering (maybe security software that is blocking/sandboxing the container used for the protected mode, etc...).
as a workaround you could try [http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1018071#TemporaryWorkaround disabling protected mode] & see if this makes a difference.
in case you'd like to troubleshoot the issue further, it would be best to contact adobe's support & file a bug report at bugbase.adobe.com (choose "Adobe Flash Player" as the product & "Browser Integration" as the product area), since they will have a better understanding of the internals of flash protected mode & therefore may know what else might be at the root of the problem you were seeing.

  • Sept 2011--should I obtain 64-bit version of Firefox for new Win7 64-bit laptop?

Before I download various addons or plugins, I should know which version of Firefox I intent to be running--32- or 64-bit. I assume the version I just downloaded (6.0.2) is 32-bit. Do I need to uninstall current version?

Firefox 64 bit is not currently supported. Firefox 32 bit will work just fine :). Note that Mozilla does have plans to support a 64 bit Firefox in the near future!
