Content Guide won't display...

Hi
I'm using Quicktime 7.1.6 with iTunes 7.1.1.5.
Quicktime is set to display the Content Guide at startup and was doing so until 05/27. Now, on startup, it seems to begin to show the Guide and then disappear off the screen. The program still shows on the Taskbar and can be minimized, restored and closed as if it is still running. Windows Task Manager actually shows it as a running application.
I have tried complete uninstalls and reinstallations of iTunes + Quicktime. I have also tried installing Quicktime on it's own. I have tried turning off security software and using another broadband connection with a different ISP. None of this brings the Guide back. I have now set Quicktime NOT to display the Guide on startup and tried to start it manually. The results are the same, it sems to start to show the Guide and then disappears. Quicktime DOES still play videos OK.
All other applications on the PC are running as normal, including iTunes. Nothing was downloaded or installed prior to this problem beginning. In fact I was watching a video I have watched many times before with Quicktime. Whilst watching the video, I changed the view to 'Double Size', as I have done before. It was after watching this video that the problem seemed to begin.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply.
I'm using NAV 2003, but the problem persists with the Firewall disabled. Also, the Guide was displaying OK previously under the Firewall.
I think I have more than just a Quicktime issue here. I tried to run some games earlier and now they won't load. I think that there is some kind of display/memory problem. All the drivers seem to be reporting that they're OK. DirectX won't reload, as Windows says that the current version is running OK. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

  • Finder and QTimeplayer won't display flash 8 content

    Hi,
    Finder's inbuild preview as well as the quicktime player won't display flash 8 swf's
    It can only show earlier flash movies.
    I have flash 8.022 pro
    on mac os 10.4.7
    I can however see flash 8 content in all of my browsers.
    Is there a component or plugin I should copy to
    the quicktime system folders?

    ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE
    I suggest there's no need to shout.
    Try linking the Director cast member to the external swf file instead of fully importing it. You also should have the 10.1.1 update in place - this is particularly important.

    /* BeginOAWidget_Instance_2141544: #MenuBar */
    /* Settable values for skinning a Basic menu via presets. If presets are not sufficient, most skinning should be done in
        these rules, with the exception of the images used for down or right pointing arrows, which are in the file SpryMenuBasic.css
         These assume the following widget classes for menu layout (set in a preset)
        .MenuBar - Applies to all menubars - default is horizontal bar, all submenus are vertical - 2nd level subs and beyond are pull-right.
        .MenuBarVertical - vertical main bar; all submenus are pull-right.
        You can also pass in extra classnames to set your desired top level menu bar layout. Normally, these are set by using a preset.
        They only apply to horizontal menu bars:
            MenuBarLeftShrink - The menu bar will be horizontally 'shrinkwrapped' to be just large enough to hold its items, and left aligned
            MenuBarRightShrink - Just like MenuBarLeftShrink, but right aligned
            MenuBarFixedLeft - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedLeft', and left aligned.
            MenuBarFixedCentered -  - Fixed at a specified width set in the rule '.MenuBarFixedCentered',
                            and centered in its parent container.
            MenuBarFullwidth - Grows to fill its parent container width.
        In general, all rules specified in this file are prefixed by #MenuBar so they only apply to instances of the widget inserted along
        with the rules. This permits use of multiple MenuBarBasic widgets on the same page with different layouts. Because of IE6 limitations,
        there are a few rules where this was not possible. Those rules are so noted in comments.

    /* IE6 rules - you can delete these if you do not want to support IE6 */
    /* A note about multiple classes in IE6.
    * Some of the rules above use multiple class names on an element for selection, such as "hover" (MenuItemHover) and "has a subMenu" (MenuItemWithSubMenu),
    * giving the selector '.MenuItemWithSubMenu.MenuItemHover'.
    * Unfortunately IE6 does not support using mutiple classnames in a selector for an element. For a selector such as '.foo.bar.baz', IE6 ignores
    * all but the final classname (here, '.baz'), and sets the specificity accordingly, counting just one of those classs as significant. To get around this
    * problem, we use the plugin in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js to generate compound classnames for IE6, such as 'MenuItemWithSubMenuHover'.
    * Since there are a lot of these needed, the plugin does not generate the extra classes for modern browsers, and we use the CSS2 style mutltiple class
    * syntax for that. Since IE6 both applies rules where
    * it should not, and gets the specificity wrong too, we have to order rules carefully, so the rule misapplied in IE6 can be overridden.
    * So, we put the multiple class rule first. IE6 will mistakenly apply this rule.  We follow this with the single-class rule that it would
    * mistakenly override, making sure the  misinterpreted IE6 specificity is the same as the single-class selector, so the latter wins.
    * We then create a copy of the multiple class rule, adding a '.SpryIsIE6' class as context, and making sure the specificity for
    * the selector is high enough to beat the single-class rule in the "both classes match" case. We place the IE6 rule at the end of the
    * css style block to make it easy to delete if you want to drop IE6 support.
    * If you decide you do not need IE6 support, you can get rid of these, as well as the inclusion of the SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js script.
    * The 'SpryIsIE6' class is placed on the HTML element by  the script in SpryMenuBarIEWorkaroundsPlugin.js if the browser is Internet Explorer 6. This avoids the necessity of IE conditional comments for these rules.

    You have some unclosed tags in the html code. Below is what your code should look like from the opening <body> tag to the closing </body> tag. It's a good idea to 'comment' where your <div> tags end. In the code you will see I have done this like:  </div><!-- end navbar -->. Some people like to put the 'comment' inside the closing </div> tag like: <!-- end navbar --></div> If you then move the <div></div> the comment goes along with it.

  • Private Photos App - pictures not displaying This app was working fine, then suddenly it won`t display any of the photos.

    This app was working fine, then suddenly it won't display any of the photos. One day the photos were there, gone the next. It still shows how many photos are there but just shows a white screen. I can't export anything to the photo album. Adding photos to existing folders yields the same result, only white screen displayed. However, I can create new albums and add photos to those without issue. Does anybody know how to recover the "missing" photo"  I was going to try reinstalling the app but it's no longer available in the iTunes App Store. Thanks, Tracy

    1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
    Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
    2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
    3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
    4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
    5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
    6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • Layered text and graphic in Word won't display when converted to PDF

    I have several simple shapes with text layered in front in my Word document. After they are converted to PDF using Acrobat XI, only the shape will display. I can tell the text is still there, because I can use my cursor tool to select it, but it won't display visually. It looks like it isn't there but it really is. One bit of text is even an internal link, and the link still works but I can't see the text I'm clicking on.
    If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.
    Thank you,

    Hi Lori - this was perfect! It was an issue with the layers being misordered. I used the Edit Text & Images tool listed under Tools > Content Editing, found the layers, then by right-clicking I was able to bring the text to the front and it all looks great now.
    I would like to know why this happened, or if not why, how I could make sure it doesn't happen again. If there's a check box or other setting I could use to remove this problem that would be fantastic.
    Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction!

  • Image with foreign characters in name won't display

    I have an image on my drive whose name has foreign characters ("cpia de frente.jpg"). To display the image my JSP reads the image name from the database and generates the following html:
    <img src="../pictures/cpia de frente.jpg">The page then displays a broken image icon for this image. Images in the same list which do not have foreign chars get displayed accurately. When I choose "show image.." in my browser I see that the image name has been rewritten into the following: c%C3%B3pia%20de%20frente.jpg. The rewriting that will display the image is instead c%F3pia%20de%20frente.jpg. I found the correct rewriting on another of my JSP where the image with the foreign chars actually gets displayed correctly although the code to generate the html is the same on both pages and looks something like this (simplified):
    <logic:iterate id="listelement" name="list" property="rows" scope="request" type="org.apache.commons.beanutils.DynaBean">
    <%
    out.write("<img src=\"../pictures/"+listelement.get("name").toString()+"\">");
                             %>  <br>
                            </logic:iterate> Every image that doesn't have foreign chars in its name gets displayed accurately but images with foreign chars in their names won't display. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Niklas

    Thanks, but it doesn't seem necessary to replace foreign characters. It works without replacing in one place but not in another which is confusing. I think it is something with the enconding but can't see what the difference is between the working and non-working code. In both pages I have put <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">I'd greatly appreciate any more suggestions to solve this problem.

  • TOC Won't Display in WinHelp

    I am updating a WinHelp project that was previously developed
    in X3 but which I am now trying to update and compile in RoboHelp 7
    for Word. The TOC won't display (i.e., the TOC navigation panel at
    the left doesn't display) when the help is launched. When viewing
    the TOC in the single panel window by clicking the Help Topics
    button, the links do work. There is a CNT file. I tried deleting
    the GID file (as suggested by Adobe), and using the old CNT file
    that worked in the previous version of the project. Anyone else
    experience this with RoboHelp 7?

    We're getting the same issue here. We compile - looks great. We copy the hlp and cnt files to another computer and the TOC disappears. We're using RoboHelp for Word and have been since v5. Can anyone help on this? All topics are there; links work, graphics great, but the Table of Contents has vanished.
    If I run the AutoGenerate TOC function, the TOC disappears completely from the system. Bear in mind, this is the same file we've been working from for the last 3 years and up until now has been working. We recently updated to v7 and upgraded again to v8 today.
    I really appreciate any guidance anyone can give.

  • My emails won't display on right hand side of iPad sceen

    Emails won't display their content on the right had side of screen on my iPad , gmail

    Quit the app completely. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the mail app icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Try mail again.
    If that doesn't work - Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • IPhoto library won't display, "Loading Photos" endlessly

    Iphoto won't display the library, it shows the loading photos graphic endlessly. Tried deleting all relevant metadata (files in iphoto library folder and library>preferences) and repairing disk permissions, to no effect. Did not move or rename iphoto.app.
    Please suggest fikes for this issue and/or alternatives to iphoto.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
    Tried deleting all relevant metadata (files in iphoto library folder and library>preferences)
    What files did you delete in the iPhoto Library Folder, exactly?
    Did not move or rename iphoto.app.
    Good to know, but the warning about moving/renaming does not refer to iPhoto.app but to the library:
    Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

  • ITunes U artwork won't display in iPhone

    _Short version:_
    This is the issue...this is how my iTunes U list displays in my phone:
    http://www.imagebam.com/image/25438b106212904
    But audiobooks display normal...
    http://www.imagebam.com/image/85e882106212891
    Obviously, the iTunes U list should display like the audiobooks list.
    _Long version:_
    This is a really annoying issue and I have tried a lot of fixes. Basically everything works normal in every other circumstance, but when I view my itunes U list in the iPhone, every single thumbnail that is supposed to display next to the album/course name appears instead as the default blank music note.
    Artwork images display fine when I'm viewing the list of music albums, audiobooks and anything else. I have assigned an image to every individual episode of iTunes U content...and when that specific episode is playing, the artwork is shown like normal. So the ID3 tag is there...and even the phone can recognize the image...
    It's only when viewing the list of iTunes U courses that the artwork doesn't display (and frankly this is the most important, as it helps identify which course/lesson I'm about to choose).
    Attempted solutions:
    I have tried everything I can think of. I read that some MP3 audio files, "have known issues displaying track Artwork information" and that Apple recommends either converting the files to MP3 files tagged as ID3 version 2.4 or converting the files to the AAC file type format (.m4a). I tried both of those things.
    I removed all iTunes U content from my phone, used iTunes ver 10.0.1.22 to convert the ID3 tag of one episode in one course, and to convert one episode from another course from mp3 to m4a. I deleted the images tied to those, and then reassigned new images. I then synced the phone...same story.
    I tried using smaller images. I tried using different image formats (jpg, png).
    The only thing that (kind of) worked is downloading directly from the iphone in the itunes app. The weird part there is though, the thumbnail image that displays is actually a completely different image from what is on the ID tag...when I sync the phone with itunes on the computer and the episode that was downloaded straight to the phone shows up on the computer...the image is completely different. And if I sync the phone again...the iTunes U list in the phone is devoid of artwork again.
    ANY NEW IDEAS?

    I'm having a similar problem. I'm not creating the podcasts, but I am trying to view one that has chapter artwork. The podcast is "gdgt weekly" which you can download through the iTunes store.
    The chapter artwork displays just fine on my iPhone, but won't display in iTunes 9, yet I can click on the Chapters menu and see small thumbnails of the chapter artwork.
    How do I get the chapter artwork to display in the main window during playback of the podcast.

  • RSS Problem--Articles won't display

    I'm having some trouble with my Safari RSS and could use some help. Safari is letting me know when new content is posted to the RSS feed (i.e. the numbers are showing up), but when I switch to the RSS page, it won't display the article summaries (i.e. there's no text). I have tried resetting Safari and restoring the RSS bookmarks, but the problem remains. Can anyone out there help me? Please? Thanks!

  • Text won't display

    my text won't display properly (size and position) in premeire elements 7

    dannyellis1
    What computer operating system are you running the Premiere Elements 7 program?
    Is this a "it worked before but not now" type of issue or "it never worked before"?
    Where is the text not displaying correctly...in the opened Titler, in the disc menu window in the Create Menus section of the program, other, or everywhere?
    Is your video card driver up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card?
    You mention size and position. What about font type?
    Also, please include:
    a. computer resources description
    b. properties of your source media
    c. project preset
    d. description of Timeline content and duration
    Let us start here and then decide what next.
    Thanks.

  • Swf files won't display in Safari

    My swf files won't display in Safari but they will work in IE. I'm using Dreamweaver 3 and Flash 4 to build the website and movies. See below.

  • Does anyone know why all of a sudden any new parent divs I add won't display in browser preview?

    Does anyone know why all of a sudden any new parent divs I add won't display in browser preview?

    yes styles are applied. What does not show up are the container divs - they all have the thin purple borders.
    The "Blog Lovers" image shows up but it is inside the #blogindex div - which seems to be invisible because the elements inside #blogindex div are just piled on top of each other. (see below html) This is now happening on all the pages of this site.
    (I test a different site in DW and I was able to add divs and borders and content inside divs just fine.)
    <!-- start #blogindex -->
         <div id="blogindex">
            <div id="blog_image1"><img src="images/bloglovers.gif" alt="Blog Lovers" /></div>
             <div id="blog_image2"><img src="images/gcblogheader350x70.jpg" alt="Gina Charles Blog" /></div>
          <div id="blogindex_text">
          <p class="blackbolditalic">Visit the blog for happenings, highlights and conversation! </p></div>
          </div>
       <!-- end #blogindex -->

  • Template page won't display on the web.

    One of my web pages was saved as a template and won't display graphics when uploaded, just code.  It has the extension dwt.  I thought probably what I should do is make
    an html page copy and use that.  I don't know how that is done, or if that would be the best solution.  Any help would be appreciated.

    You should never publish your Template.dwt file to the web except to have as a backup in case your Template ever becomes corrupted or lost.
    Templates are a proprietary DW file type used to create the rest of your site pages.  Go to File > New Page from Template.  Select your .dwt file and hit create.   The resulting new page is a child page based on that main template.  Save as index.html (your home page).  Repeat with other site pages.
    Add editable content to each of your child pages.  Everything outside Editable Regions in the template will be populated to all child pages -- very handy for site wide menus, headers, footers and sidebars.
    When you edit a template, you must re-publish all child pages based on that template to your server.
    For more details on the use of DW Templates, use F1 Help in DW.
