Content length limited to int?

I didn't find appropriate post to this topic yet, so I hope there is no duplicates. I demand to change all content length operations to at least long with following usage big decimals. Indeed we live in century of big bytes technologies and have so limitation very annoying. Why I need to use set/get headers function to manipulate with content lengt more than Integer.MAX_VALUE. Servlet spec 2.5 must be changed to fit new data size requirements, what do you think?

You do realize that Integer.MAX_SIZE = 2 Gigabytes, right? If you're sending that much data to a client over a single Http connection, you've got bigger problems than the max size of an int...

              Hi all,
              We need to restrict the size of the resume uploaded
              to say, 1 MB and we don't want the error message to come up after the upload is
              completed. We tried to use Weblogic property maxPostSize=xxx but weblogic aborts
              the connection abruptly as soon as it finds the resume size is greater than allowed
              and all user sees is a "Page cannot be displayed" message, we
              need some way to give appropriate message to the user about this, any help on
              this is greatly appreciated.
              Thanks

    Maby u try to force it with:
    conn.setRequestProperty ( "Content-Length" ,

  • HTTP PUT Request for File Uploads is returning a response header with content-length = 0

    After upgrading from CF9 to Coldfusion 10, I'm running into an odd issue, with `cURL` calls to a webservice that used to work.
    We are using an HTTP PUT Request with multipart="no" so that the request header content is the file itself, now the data is being sent properly in the content but it has a ~8k limit. This is fine for smaller files but some files are 60kb etc.
    Errors are odd too, near the 8KB limit we get a bad gateway error 502, and above that the webpage errors with a connection reset.
    It works fine with multipart="yes", but in a PUT request the file's data isn't even sent since it's looking for `httpparam formField` , the content-length from the target page's Headers show a content-length of 0 which causes `cURL` to fail with an error (56): http://curl.haxx.se/docs/manpage.html
    Here's example code to reproduce:
    <cfset sFilename = "C:\999\test4.txt">
    <cffile action="readBinary" file="#sFilename#" variable="fileRead">
    <cfset oFileInfo = GetFileInfo("#sFilename#")>
    <cfhttp           url="localhost/Clarence/diff_elt_test_output.cfm"
                                  method="PUT"
                                  username="******"
                                  password="******"
                                  multipart="yes"
                                  result="oHttp">
              <cfhttpparam type="header" name="Content-Type" value="text/plain" />
              <cfhttpparam type="header" name="Content-Length" value="#oFileInfo.Size#" />
              <cfhttpparam type="body" value="#fileRead#"/>
    </cfhttp>
    <cfdump var="#oHttp#">
    Dumping the response via GetHttpRequestData() shows that the header's content-length = 0 and content is blank.
    Whereas POST requests work fine, cURL has a -F form option which is our fallback but a solution to this would be great.
    Here's what I've tried:
    1. Changing CF post request limit sizes (64MB+)
    2. Changing IIS config web/webserver http runtime and security.request filtering request limits to much higher values
    3. AJP Connector between IIS and Tomcat has a default 8KB header limit, I changed that to 64k on both sides, still nothing
    Also am I missing something fundamental here? I thought at the network layer a packet is split up and rejoined, so large content in a http request body should work, what's wrong with Coldfusion 10?

    I am familiar with java.net package and know how to
    Read and Write Streams.
    However, what I do not know is what string
    represntation of PUT or POST resquests is?It's HttpURLConnection.setRequestMethod("PUT") or ("POST").
    Also you have to setDoOutput(true).
    Then you set the content type, possibly encode the input, set the content length, and write the file data to the stream.
    Using a Jakarta package may be easier, however.

  • SetRequestProperty("Content-Length", ....) is not set in the POST resquest

    Hi,
    Iam sending a POST request to a servlet. Apart from other request properties iam also setting "Content-Length" property by using the
    setRequestProperty("Content-Length", data.length) on httpconnection object. When i checked the http packtes being from the toolkit to the servlet (by using ethereal tool) i see that all other properties as appropriately set by
    "Content-Length" is not being set at all. This is causing me big problem at the server side.
    Can any one tell my why the toolkit could have droped the

  • Incorrect Content-Length

    Dear Java Experts,
    I am writing a program which communicates with a servlet. The OutputStream of the URLConnection is get and I write a String to it. However, when I use the getContentLength Method to check, the length is always 4. In turn, the server-side always gets an EOFException.
    The display output of my program is:
    Invoker: DATA LENGTH = 357
    Invoker: CONTENT_LENGTH = 4
    The code statement is:
    URL servletUrl = null;
    URLConnection conn = null;
    ObjectInputStream ois = null;
    ObjectOutputStream oos = null;
    int backcmd = -1;
    Object ret = null;
    URL servletUrl = new URL(location);
    conn = servletUrl.openConnection();
    conn.setDoInput(true);
    conn.setDoOutput(true);
    conn.setUseCaches(false);
    conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "application/octet-stream");
    BufferedOutputStream connos = new BufferedOutputStream(conn.getOutputStream());
    System.out.println("Invoker: DATA LENGTH = "+myString.length());
    connos.write(myString.getBytes());
    connos.flush();
    connos.close();
    int length = conn.getContentLength();
    System.out.println("Invoker: CONTENT_LENGTH = "+length);
    Please help.
    Ray

    According to the JDK Help - URLConnection.getContentLenght() returns the length of the content-length header field
    This does NOT sound like what you are trying to get
    perhaps you should try something like
    int length = ((String)conn.getContent()).length();

  • Gzip / Content-Length HTTP-Header

    Hello,
    I'm writing an HTTP-Proxyserver, but I don't know how to get the length of a GZIPOutputStream ... I'm compressing the data, if the server does not send gzipped data:
    logger.debug("Encode as GZip data!");
    byte[] BinaryBody = new byte[8192];
    GZIPOutputStream gzipOut = new GZIPOutputStream(client.getOutputStream());
    int length;
    while ((length = in.read(BinaryBody)) != -1)
         gzipOut.write(BinaryBody, 0, length);
         gzipOut.flush();
    gzipOut.close();I often get a Nullpointer exception in the line (while ((length = in.read(BinaryBody)) != -1)
    I think it's because I don't set the Content-Length Header, but I'm not sure.
    greetings,
    Johannes

    Disable the "Use Chunked Streaming Mode" property in HTTP Transport Configuration of your business service. By default it remains enabled.

  • Missing Content-Length in HTTP response

    Hi All,
    I am experimenting with developing websevices using Sun Java Application Server. I have a working webservice using BEA Weblogic and I would like to have it ported to SUN. The application works like this: A client (Tuxedo application program) sends an XML document to the webservice, in response the websevice parse this document and based on certain fields it send back another document.
    The problem is that the SUN application does not return the content-length in its response and hence the requesting client rejects the message. Can anyone help?? Below is the response from both SUN and Weblogic:

    Is there an option in Sun Java Application Server to include Content-Length in response to a client request? If not is it possible to generate this information from the service code?

  • ImageLoader,no  Content-Length not loading in ie, chrome

    Im currently working with the PosterFrameElement, the url to the jpeg is like this http://mydomain.dk/image/1234/
    serialElement.addChild(new PosterFrameElement(new URLResource(url)));
    to get pass the ImageLoader canHandleResource I tryed inserting .jpg which then return true..(also override the canHandleResourceto true)
    However my problem seems to have something with the browser and  images content header, the images im trying to load has no Content-Length and is chunked..file size around 46 k (and I have no chance to change this).
    In firefox all work fine,
    BUT  when I view in chrome, ie or safari the picture is not loading. I trace LoadEvent bytes to 0
    It seems like a BUG in the Loader!! is their a workaround or suggestions on how to move on?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Peter,
    Have you tried loading the images directly in the problem browsers (Chrome, IE, Safari) and see if the loading works any better? If something loads differently based on the browser, that's unusual with Flash Player. I'd see if the browsers themselves are having trouble with the chunked files before tackling anything inside OSMF. I know that certain browsers send different HTTP statuses than others. It is possible that a chunked file is sending a status before the entire file is loaded, tricking the Loader into thinking the file is complete. Adobe notes that the following browsers don't send statuses to the Flash Player: Netscape, Mozilla, Safari, Opera, and Internet Explorer for the Macintosh. That doesn't line up exactly with your list, so that may be a red herring.
    Also, on the matter of getting around the image loader, you could use your own media factory to pick the loader and element type through a custom MediaFactoryItem. If you specify an ID other than the standard OSMF ID for MediaFactoryItems (org.osmf), it will get used before the standard MediaFactoryItem for that media element type. Check out the MediaFactory's resolveItems() method for how that works.

  • Maximum size for an HttpRequest? Set Content-Length?

    Hi, I'm managing to get small strings sent from my applet to my servlet, but when I try anything bigger, I get problems. Oddly enough, the larger object can get sent to my applet from my servlet without any issues.
    Can anyone tell me if there is a maximum size for sending responses?
    Or, if I have to set the content-length property in my applet before I send my data, how do I get the size of my object so I can set it?
    thanks for any advice any of you might have

    Thanks for the pointers.
    BalusC, at first I was trying to write my object without sending it through a byteStream first (hence the q) :), tried it that way too and wouldn't work.
    I finally figured out that it wasn't the code that was the problem, but it was an upload issue (server specific). Have changed the code to sending one line of data at a time since I was converting my object to an output file in the servlet anyway. Not the best solution but it works :)
    Thanks again

  • Content-Length Header being stripped out of Gatewayed pages

    I am working to integrate the GPL'ed Moodle e-learning web application with Plumtree.  However, I'm hitting a snag.  For certain POST events, Moodle expects to receive a content-length header.
    When I use the application outside the portal, it works fine, and the Content-Length header is sent.  However, when I have the application gatewayed through the portal, the Content-Length header seems to get stripped out of the HTTP request and I get HTTP error 411 (Content Length Required).
    Is there a way I can convince the portal to not strip out the Content Length HTTP header?

    I'm working with .NET portal.
    For the particular file that caused the error as reported in the tcptrace log, I opened IIS manager, found the virtual directory, right clicked to open the properties dialog and checked directory security.
    Select edit anonymous access to check the account used for anonymous access, supply the user account needed and allow IIS to manage password. If in doubt check the settings on pages containing http post that are functioning properly.
    Check Integrated Widows Authentication
    I found this virutal directory had no user in the anonymous account, not sure how this happened. This resulted in pages that contained post/postbacks giving the "length required" error when I hit a button to perform the post/postback. Pages that did not contain Posts/Postback work correctly.

  • Web Service URL length limits, LV2013 vs LV2012

    (* CROSS POST: http://lavag.org/topic/18435-web-service-url-length-limits-lv2013-vs-lv2012/ *)
    (* Please reply in this forum.  I have marked the other thread to put replies here. *)
    Has anyone noticed a reduction to the limit on URL length for Web Services between LV versions 2012 and 2013?
    Under LV2012, a RESTful web service appears to accept URL with lengths at least as long as 4096 characters.  With LV2013, the max URL length appears to be 511 characters for both RESTful and Project Item web services. Unfortunately for me the project I just converted trips over this issue. My goal with posting this query to here is to improve my understanding of this limitation before I decide how best to modify my code.  Certainly using POST rather than GET with a long URL is an option, but again, I'm looking to understand the change in limitation before I choose a solution.
    To illustrate I have attached three mostly identical projects which demonstrate the issue.  In each case the project contains a webservice consisting of a single VI, "ComputeLength", which takes a String as an input parameter and which outputs the length of the string.  The three projects are as follows.
    1. LV2012 RESTful web service.
    2. LV2013 RESTful web service.
    3. LV2013 Project item web service.
    The web service contains a single VI.  For the RESTful examples, the web service is started by selecting Deploy from the Build specification right click menu.  For the Project Item example, the web service is started by selecting Start from the MyComputer/WebService right click menu. The use of this example is demonstrated with the following URL:
    (note that the port is 8080 for the two RESTful examples and is 8001 for the Project item web service if used in Debug mode, which is the default for the above instruction.)
    http://localhost:8080/webservice/computelength?string=1234567890
    And the output looks like this.
    <Response>
    <Terminal>
    <Name>StringLength</Name>
    <Value>10</Value>
    </Terminal>
    </Response>
    To see the issue, extend the string parameter such that the URL contains more than 511 characters beyond the port number.  For example something like this, http://localhost:8080/webservice/computelength?string=1234567890123456789012345678901234567890....(keep repeating)
    For the LV2012 example the string parameter may be at least as long as 4000 characters, which I've demonstrated using Chrome as my browser.  For both of the LV2013 examples the URL is limited to 511 characters after the localhost and the port number.
    Anyone know whether this is a bug or this is an intentional design change?  How about whether the URL length limit is configurable?
    I am also consulting NI tech support and will report back their response.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Thanks,
      Martin

    Solution found.  Apparently starting in LV 2013, there is a default limit of 512 to the URL length.  The default limit may be overridden as described below.
    Martin
    This is Brian in Applications Engineering from National Instruments. I am following up regarding the 511 character limit in your Web Service HTTP request following the port number. After some research I've figured out that the issue is related to a default web server setting called "LimitUri," which limits the maximum length of a URL. There are multiple ways of changing the URL length limit depending on how you are using your web service. If you are publishing the web service using the Application Web Server then modify "C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Shared\NI WebServer\NIWebAppServer.conf" and add "LimitUri 4096" to the end of the file without the quotes.
    If you are running the Debug Web Server by just clicking start on the web service then modify "C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 2013\resource\webserver\niwsdebugserver.conf" and add "LimitUri 4096" to the end of the file without the quotes.
