Content on the Books themselves

New RoboHelp user here... I understand that pages contain the
content of your help files, but can you also have a "page" appear
when the user clicks on a book? Right now clicking on the book just
opens or closes it. I've been asked to have a sort of summary for
that book topic appear when a user clicks on the book.

To Leon: Thanks for bringing that bit up. Appreciate the
assist! I forgot to include that. It is precisely how I advise
folks to do this in the classroom.
To Author care: While that option is certainly valid for .CHM
TOCs, I would also advise to enable a companion option. This one is
the Plus-Minus squares. But notice you cannot enable that until you
first enable the "Lines from root" option.
In the Microsoft HTML Help Workshop, the Single Click to open
Books item is actually labeled differently. There, it is labeled
"Only expand a single heading". This means if you are clicking the
book to open it, all others normally close. Unless, of course, you
use the Plus/Minus symbols to open and close them. Which is why I
always consider it a best practice to enable the other options.

You should be able to delete the book via the Edit button at the top right of the bookshelf and then re-download via the Store button at the top left and then the Purchased tab. If it re-downloads in the state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that book and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

Missing pages from the book

I purchased a book, but I can only read and see the images of the first 12 pages. I originally downloaded the sample, then purchased the whole book, but the rest of the book hasn't loaded. How can I get the rest of it? I have tried restarting my computer, deleting the book and then re-downloading it from the cloud. What else should I do?

I have the same issue, except mine was there about 2 hrs ago, but when I was trying to put some of my books back into iTunes I force quit the process com.apple.BKAgentService (bc doing so helped everybody else with the issue I was having) somehow all of the content from the book got lost except for the first 12 pages. I'm freaking out bc it's a textbook for college. I deleted it like you did and tried redownloading it, but nothing has helped, including restarting my computer and even doing a disk repair. GRRRRRR! HELP US!

Can seem to open the book i downloaded

I have paied downloaded a book to read not an audiobook. Its in my books section in I tunes. I can open it though. I dont know what to do to acsess the contents of the book! ????
Anyone what to do, or what ive done wrong?

I can't get the page numbers in my table of contents to update when I update the book.

I'm using Framemaker 11 and I have two TOCs in my book: one in English and one in French. Each TOC links to different documents in the same book. The reference page for each TOC is set and correctly displays the heading 1 and 2 I've told it to display, but the numbers do not update when the content in my document files changes to a different page. I've checked the conditional text settings in my document files; they are correct. When I update the book, I choose to update Numbering, All Cross-References, All Text Insets, OLE Links, Generate Table of Contents, Lists, and Indexes. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

I just tested this out and saw the same result as Rick - a book with child books ignores all generated files within the child books. This applies to adding content from them (e.g. their titles) to actually including them in the output. This applies to all versions of FM since v.9!
However, there is a workaround for this. You need to use the hierarchical book structure in the parent book and create Folders for each book that you want to add. Then manually add the generated files (TOC, IX, List of..., etc.) and book to the respective folder. This is what it looks like for two child books in a parent book:
Note that the child book generated files (TOC, IOR) show as just regular files at this point in the parent book. To get the page numbering to be continuous throughout the parent book, you will need to make a couple of passes. First set folder, files and books to have the Numbering continue from the previous (if you want all sequential page numbers). This will set the page numbers correctly except for what they were in the respective book TOCs. You will need to use the starting page number of the child TOC files in each folder (it shows in the Book status bar when click on the TOC file in the master/parent book).
To set the individual book TOCs to be correct in the parent book, open the child book and set the TOC Numbering to start at the page stated in the parent book (status bar). Now update the child book to set the correct (parent book) page numbers in the child TOC. [This is a necessary manual step, as the page number assigned in the parent book is ignored when th child book is individually updated and FM uses 1 to start off the sequence in the child book.] Repeat for each child book in the master/parent book.
The final step is to Update the parent book and create the PDF. You should now have all of the files included in the PDF and the child TOCs should show the correct page numbers of the master book.
This whole process of books within books seems a bit borked and one shouldn't have to be jumping through hoops to include child generated files. Please report this as a bug via: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm

Try to reset your phone, hold the home/sleep buttons until it reboots and the apple logo appears, don't release the buttons till apple logo appears. If no luck there, Resync the book. Or delete it and redownload it. Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

If it is possible a scripting can making contents of a book with the correct page numbers?

I was wondering if it is possible a scripting can making contents of a book with the correct page numbers.
I know indesign has already a function that can making contents in a same file, as long as some paragraph styles were indicated to make the contents.
But if the title on the master page, it doesn’t work.
If it is possible to make it happen on a whole book, in spite of what I choosing title was on the master page?
Can somebody help me?

I work on one book which has 40 topic that follow immediately, each topic has a title, socalled section headed. They were put on the master page. What I want is the section headed and the each topic's starting number to make a contents.
Each time, I work on this kind of book, I have to copy them 40 times to make a contents page, and I have to writing down the each section's starting page number and then type in the contents.
I was wondering if it is a function can help me and let me easily to make a contents.

JavaScript to Synchronize the contents of a book (.indb)

I'm new to programming and JavaScripting, I'm trying to learn, but I can't find a way to synchronize a book (all it's content). I would also like to set the first document in the book as the style Source document.
So far this is my ridicules thinking.

TS1702 I purchased a book on my iPad and began reading it. One day, the content of the entire book was missing. I got an error saying encoding error. I have tried to sync with no success. Any suggestions?

Why did the content of my iPad book disappear? I have tried to sync with no succes in recovering. iTunes store does not have an option to re-download.

If the book is still available in the store then you should be able to delete it from the iBooks app via the Edit button at the top right of the bookshelf, and then re-download it via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the iBooks app. Is the book still in the store, and does it appear in the Purchased tab ?

Is there a way to link two FrameMaker 12 books with shared content into the same RoboHelp 11 file?

This one might require some back story.
I'm working at a company with roughly 60 business units that will each be getting their own emergency response procedures (.FM files compiled into a single FrameMaker .book file for their department). I then want to link all of these books to a single RoboHelp so that when it comes time to publish all of these plans into WebHelp menus I can do that with a single batch generate/publish.
My problem is that some of the FM files within the books are shared (maybe two or more departments are at the same location or all of them share the same corporate level plans) so that when I try to link two books with a shared FM file it throws an error.
Is there away to allow multiple copies of a FM file to exist in a single RoboHelp? Or is there a better solution to the task at hand?
Any suggestions you might have would be greatly appreciated as I am still a moderate beginner with Frame and RoboHelp.

P.S. Just to complicate things this will all be done via SharePoint so books and FM files live there, and then the RoboHelp output will be published there.

I think you’re looking at creating a merged RH project – one parent project that subsumes all the linked FM to RH child projects – read up on merged help on Peter’s site (grainge.org)
