Content Shift Problem

I'm still just learning DW, and right now I'm just doing minor updates to a website. But, it's come to my attention that computer screens that are more square (less wide) show one of my pages with lots of the content shifted.

The "About Flight Systems..." part and every thing below it appear down below the "More about us" part and shifted to the left under it.
Any advice on fixing this/any explanation to why would be greatly appreciated.

I do have a widescreen, but my browser windows are not opened full screen... they are more proportional to a normal screen. If I resizeeither browser to be narrower than your web page, I still see what I assume is the proper display of the content:

Contents shift right and down, rulers shift up and right ??? !!!

Hi Chaps/Chappesses, this one has been bugging me a while now. I create ads for national press and the ads for one client are causing me hassle.
I open an ad to update it for the following week and the entire contents shift right and down 5 - 10mm not a problem you say, but using any selection tools it selects the position of the item 'before' it shifted making editing a nightmare. How I get around it is to copy and paste into a new doc and I can work the file for a while, then when I come to open it again, it's shifted again.

I've run font doctor, changed the images, the only thing I can't do is change the fonts.

Which version of InDesign? Are you using Suitcase?
This all sounds familiar from a couple of years ago when things appeared shifted on screen. Turned out to be caused by some aspect of Suitcase, if memory serves.

PLEASE HELP - COLOR SHIFTING PROBLEM on output NTSC monitors

Above is a link to a layered photoshop file that has a USA map and over a dozen network overlays used in a section of our video. I animate each layer on sepeartely in the video and have noticed a major problem recently, the color of the art does not hold true to placement. I created the art originally in Illustrator and then converted the file to Photoshop at 640x480, 72dpi. This has always worked perfectly in the past to display and animated artwork in FCP.
Right now, in FCP I am using the NTSC DV 3:2 frame size, and the compressor of DV/DVCPRO - NTSC. I have a JVC Profressional DV deck that hooks up through firewire and sends S-Video to my monitors. This setup has always given me a great picture even though it is not completely upcompressed. Using these settings and this art, the color lines on this map in red, light blue, yellow and purple all have a "color shift" to the left about 5 pixels. It makes it appear that the line is where it is in the file, but the color overlaying the line is offset to the left 5 pixels and transperant to about 50%. This occurs only when viewed on some TV's and NTSC monitors and projectors. The strange thing is, some monitors display the color aligned almost perfectly on these maps and other monitors and projectors show this "digital halo" of color shifting really bad. If I take the layered network overlays in these colors and color tint them to black or grey, white, light green, or even light orange, they no longer have the color shifting and the detail is perfect.
Is there any way to fix this problem? I have tried duplicating the sequence and setting the compressor to 8bit Uncompressed, and while my captured footage is not this compression, in theory the art should render at this higher resolution setting. This did nothing to solve the problem.
I also have tried using different Broadcast safe and Y/C corrector filters with different results. The Y/C filter allowed me to reposition the color problem and thus removing most of the problem, but also removing most of the color. Nothing else has allowed me to seemingly move the color into the proper possition.
What is causing this color shift on the displayed NTSC image?
In FCP 4.5 I can see my rendered video in the program viewer screen and besides the pixel compression appearing on the lines, overall the video looks great paused or even better when playing. Then you view it through my deck onto my Pro Sony NTSC 19" color monitor and it also appears great, with a slight color halo to the left of these colors, but the color in the lines are there. If you are a few feet from the screen and know what you are looking for you might see it, but doubtful. Then you view it using the same signal on a 17" Samsung TV and the color shifting makes the map and other art, like the clients blue logo, look horrible, with each color line appearing twice and offset left from each other as if you had double vision. Normally I would think it is the TV causing this, but then we tested this same movie on 2 differnt projectors. The $700 Epson projector displayed everything beautifully, again with only the slightest color halo to the left, but then the Panasonic $4000 projector made everthing in these colors look double vision again. What is going on???
One more thing to keep in mind, my color bars also show this problem with these colors as well as shot footage of these facilities. There are tall red poles in the shots and everything displays fine except for the red pole color looks like it's glowing off the pole to the left.
PLEASE tell me there is a solution to this.

I have tried Degaussing, using filters, changing cables, and testing other monitors and systems on these monitors, everthing I can think of to solve the issue. Is it FCPo or is it the monitors?... or is it a signal strength thing. Can monitors and projectors shift color when the signal is read from a DVD or Mini DV Deck? Is there a fequency difference (Ie: 75mgz or 80 mgz) that might be causing the shift in some monitors and not so badly in others. But if this was true, how would some DVD's (like Baby Einstein DVDs that use really bright colors) display red and blue perfect using these same player and monitor, while my projects is shifting color? Doesn't that rule out the signal from the DVD player if other DVD's do not have this issue?

Someone out there must have had this problem before. There's no way a color shift problem like this with Mini DV has gone on this long without someone seeing it.
One last thing about what I have tried... I do understand that with editing in Mini DV instead of uncompressed or HD video I lose a bit of resolution (4:2:2) and I see this compression occuring in some of the areas in the video where these problems persist. But, I did remake the art and rerender this project in an 8bit uncompressed settings and then displayed that up on the screen and I get the same color shift. I keep going in circles trying to find the culprit that is causing the delema.
PLEASE HELP! There are large tours going through our facilities daily and the large screen projector is displaying this problem as well. Let's just hope they don't notice and that their TV's at home or office does not display it on our final DVD's made.

Adobe Content Viewer problem. Please Help me...

Hi after updating online. Folio, I tried to update the trial version of the publication on my iPad but I get this message: "the issue isavailable for dowload, but new signing for an application version. Update the application from the App Store. "I went to the AppStore and was not any update of the Content Viewer ... I deleted the version on my iPad I downloaded again ... but without success gives me the same problem ... Please help me ... how can I do??

As discussed in numerous threads already, the new viewer has not been approved by Apple yet.
If you’re a pro or enterprise customer you can create your own viewer app. If not, you’ll have to wait or roll back to the older tools.

How to debug file content conversion problems?

I'm trying to debug a file content conversion problem. I'm mapping a few nodes in an IDOC to a file of fixed length fields. I'm using the "<Node A>.fieldFixedLengths", "<Node B>.fieldFixedLengths", "<Node C>.fieldFixedLengths", etc. parameters to specify the fixed length records.
However, a certain node (for e.g. Node B) is causing a problem and if it is present in the IDOC, the output file does not get created. Upon checking the XI monitor, I notice that the file gets mapped correctly and thus the problem lies when the file adapter does the file content conversion. How do I debug this because there is no descriptive error in the XI log? If this node is not present, the file gets generated fine.

If your SXMB_MONI shows, success status, then go to RWB->Message Monitoring->Message display tool and then check Audit log for the analysis,
So it wil help you debug the situation.
If there is no error, then check RWB->Component Monitoring->Adapter Monitoring for you file communciation channel..

Content protection problem

Hi. I've got that content protection problem when downloading from blackberry app world. Every time I try to download something, a message comes up that says, "An error has occurred communicating with the BlackBerry App World Client. If you have content protection enabled on your device, please disable and try again,". I'm sure a lot of people had this problem and many of them have had their problem solved, but i've already tried solutions like disabling the encryption and doing the battery pull but the message still comes up.
Are there any other solutions that I can try?

Extended Content type problem

Extended Content type problem
I want to extend the content type 'ExtendDocument' from 'Document'.
So I use 'Oracle Internet File System Manager' to create a new Class Object named 'EXTENDDOCUMENT', which is extend from 'DOCUMENT', and add a attribute 'EXTENDURL'.
This Class Object's bean class is 'ifs.beans.ExtendDocument' and server class is 'ifs.server.S_ExtendDocument'.
I create these 2 java class and put the class files to ORACLE_AS_HOME\ifs\cmsdk\custom_classes directory.
As I want to set the object type as 'ExtendDocument' when uploading a file which expend name is '*.wmv', so that need to change 2 default value 'ParserLookupByFileExtension' and 'IFS.PARSER.ObjectTypeLookupByFileExtension'
So I add 'name=wmv, datatype=STRING, value=oracle.ifs.beans.parsers.ClassSelectionParser' to ParserLookupByFileExtension.
And then add 'name=wmv, datatype=STRING, value=EXTENDDOCUMENT' to IFS.PARSER.ObjectTypeLookupByFileExtension.
After done above actions, i restart my oracle application.
I use CUP to upload a test file 'test.wmv' to CMSDK repository, and its type is 'EXTENDDOCUMENT'.
But if I use FTP or WebStarterApp application to upload 'test.wmv' file to CMSDK repository, then its type is 'DOCUMENT'.
Why and how to change to make FTP and WebStarterApp application can upload *.wmv file's type as 'EXTENDDOCUMENT'?

I would try doing it this way. Try including entries for the mime mappings in the deployment descriptor of the web application.

EMac Raster Shift problem

Hi All, I got an eMac 700Mhz in Jan'09 this year with the infamous Raster shift problem for SGD70.00. Managed to download the eMac take apart step by step instruction. Took a day leave and started my expedition exporing the inside of eMac.
As I am electro-mechanical academic trained the instructions was still very useful and in time, I had disassembled to the bare bone of the IVAD box and to the Farady's shield were all out. All this allow me to check all cables and connected link up to the IVAD cable inside CRT. Removed the IVAD (first remove the heat sink), inspected it and found some pins were loose either from my pulling it out or it had came loose graduately throughout the years from the curvature it was bend and the temperature.
Inspected and tested the resistivity of the IVAD cable with a voltmeter. Seems good, pushed all pins backed into position with the tweezer, cable tied and use hotmelt glue around the wire-pins insertion side making sure all are firmed and well insulated. On mounting, I moved the ferrite core beside with the other CRT core.
Before putting eMac back together, got the chance to hose off and clean up the casing. Oiled the fan and removed the wore out sponge sealed. Vaccum and clean up whatever seems dirty even the inside of the speakers box.
Put everything back to together and prayed to God, if this is for me make it work. Wah-lah! my prayers were answered. It booted up with the regular chime and on status light but with a black blank screen, just a couple seconds later the apple appear but screen was yellowish. Oops! something went wrong. Shut it down with the menu and rebooted it. Wah-lah! 2nd time my prayer were answered, the chime, the light and the apple on a grey bright screen. Burn-in for 12 hours without shutting down with sleep mode on and off. And it still work after 2 months.
Things to note; after removing the stand, and all the reviting hex screws from the casing. Be very careful when lefting up the casing because the on-off switch is still attached the casing.
Use a 3 pin plug cable with the grounding pin still plug into socket and leave the unit off to drain out any static or electrical charge still in the unit especial in the CRT as I do not have the CRT discharge tool. Touch the farady or any metal part before you disassembly the eMac.
On assembly, make sure all connection are hooked up and make ink markings with screws with differenct colors before you unscrews any screws inside the unit and place them into different partition box. I used the egg packing tray for this purpose.
Hope all this helps. Enjoyed your own eMac expidition.

Fully self profiled (I write my own profiles using xRite Pulse) printing through QImage to Epson 7880. I have been using PS since v5 (approx 10 years) and Cap1 and then lightroom since it came out.
My workflow is simple: Import Nikon D3 raw files to Lightroom, Using either acr or more recently (maybe one change I have made!) Camera standard calibration. Colour correct crop etc and export an adobe RGB jpeg export setting below: Hi Guys,

All good so far. Colours on my profiled monitor are good. If I then print this file through Q image all is good (and this is most of my files!) . Happy days! However if I open in CS5 (Colour settings below-which have not changed for 10 years!) the colour changes. I am getting no profile mismatch warning (I shouldn’t – file is adobe rgb which is my working space). But there is a noticeable colour shift. If I do nothing to the file and resave the colour has shifted. I have tried opening a file/ saving with a different file name and printing the two on the same sheet of paper to eliminate printer issues – the shift that I see on my monitor is there. Why would opening an Adobe RGB jpeg in CS5 change its colour? It certainly never happened before. Also if within Lightroom I click “edit in PS”, open the file and resave the colour has shifted..
((I have also tried preserve embedded profile but this doesn’t solve the issue!)
My workaround is to do lightroom conversion, (colour correct!), Open and edit in CS5 (colour shift) save as different file name, Import into Lightroom (Now says embedded profile (This is correct I think) Do nothing in terms of colour (which now looks correct again!) and export (Wow Correct colour Again!!)
Does anybody know what is going on??
I have used half a roll of paper doing test prints and have established the following:
My monitor profile is correct, (What I see is what I get!)
QImage setting & My printer profile is correct ( What I see is what I get! By printing the two files on the same sheet (this will eliminate printer issues) I can see the CS5 file is very different - as on the monitor)
All lightroom exports are correct (what I see is what I get!)
I also opened a file on CS3 (across a network to a non colour managed machine but with adobe rgb work space, did nothing with the file but resave and the colours shift again!
I attach samples below: The difference reminds me of what an Adobe RGB file looks like on a non colour managed monitor – Flatter (no punch) but also a slightly green
Any Help would be much appreciated!

Very generally, they both describe profiles. ICC is the standard International Color Consortium format for profiles and ICM is Microsoft's flavor (standing for Integrated Color Management, I believe).
Photoshop et. al. are able to use both, but even a name match wouldn't mean the contents are identical. There is some possibility that they actually are equivalent under the covers in this case, and that my spotting the slight difference in names isn't the source of the visible color differences. It is almost certainly why the warning message is being emitted, though.

File adaptor Content conversion problem

Hi all,
I have a client proxy > pi> CSV file scenario which im working on currently - everything is fine apart from 1 really annoying thing.
The problem is this that when data is extracted from SAP it should put in 6 fields within the file produced e.g:
field1,field2,field3,field4,field5,field6
Which is fine however if one of the fields is blank there should still be the blank space which should appear instead of what it is curently doing which is ignoring the blank and shifting everything else left by 1 so:
if out of 6 fields only 5 come out currently its doing this:
field1,field2,field4,field5,field6      (Notice field3 is missing and there is no blank space in its place)
What it should be doing is this:
field1,field2,,field4,field5,field6       (Notice the blank space)
I have gone through all the content conversion parameters I know for receiver file adaptors none have worked so if you know any which will do this please let me know!!
Also if you know of other ways your ideas will be greatly appreciated.

you solution is to alter the mapping in a simple way.
If you are using graphical mapping then use this logic;
Source field -> if EXISTS -> Target
                      else -> Pass an empty constant -> Target
This will make sure an empty tag is created a the target and FCC will work fine.

Template content shifting slightly from page to page?

Hi folks,
I am using Dreamweaver MX (yeah, I know) on OSX 10.6.8 and I am having problems with the navigation content in templates shifting slightly left and right between nearly identically created pages.
See example at http://www.darrylvance.com/design_print.html and notice the shift when going from the sub-pages (which are in one position) back to the print, motion, other, etc. pages.
The top tier pages were created using one template (for the navigation) and the Print sub-pages were created using a new template which is identical to the first one, except there is the navigation links added below.
Another example is at http://www.darrylvance.com/art_painting.html where the same template was used for ALL the pages, but the Other and About pages have a similar horizontal shift as in the first example.
I am assuming the different widths of the various pages content is causing these particular shifts, which are never noticable in DW but appear when in the browser. I have rebuilt and rebuilt the offenders from identical correct pages and changed the widths of the content, but I'm still getting the same problem.
I'd guess there is some kind of anomaly in the table settings, but for the life of me I can't find it.

Thanks, John. However, I can't figure out where to insert the code on the pages. The tutorial you referenced is using a CSS style, but I am not (as far as I can tell), and frankly am not experienced enough with CSS to understand where it might go, if at all, on my pages.
Do I edit the code on the templates and then let DW update the pages, or edit all the pages in the editable area of the code on each page.

Content shifts due to sidebar

If you go to

pixes to the right in IE6. its fine in IE 7 and FF2. Does anyone
know how to solve this? I made the sidebar 10 px less wide and that
still didn't solve the issue.

Then for those specific pages create an editable css region
(see below)
in your main template and alter the css on those pages to

InDesign DataMerge Content Shift on Batch

I've designed a corporate business card for my company that is being populated by a CSV file. I've successfully linked all of my fields to my content driven file, however when I batch the finished document into a multiple page PDF, the alignment of all page text and images shift .25" to the bottom and left. Any advice on why this is happening and what I can do to correct it?

Are you merging one record, or mulitiple records per page?
Is this happening with anything else?
You might want to try both of these troubleshooting techniques: Remove minor corruption by exporting and Replace Your Preferences
For your blank line problem, the answer is yes, but not with the way you've got things set up. Data merge can remove blank lines, but you don't have any. In order for this to work you must move the P, C and F (along with the spaces) into the data file so the only thing on those lines is the field tags. You'd do that by adding three more fields in Excel that use a formula to put the letters and spaces in front of the numbers if the existing fields for that record are not blank, but leave the new filed blank if there is no number. All three numbers must also be in the same text frame in the merge template if you want removal of blank lines to shift the following text up.
Another possibility is to use Find/Change after the merge to remove lines without numbers. A grep search for ^[PCF]\s*\r and replace with nothing (leave the field blank) ahould remove a line with only one of your letters and blank space. Again, you'd need to put them all in a single frame to have them move up.

Specifying pdf document's name in browser - content-disposition problem

I want to open a PDF document in browser, which needs to have a specified filename when user tries to save it.
My web app sends an "application/pdf" document back to the browser.
I use the Content-Disposition HTTP header to instruct the browser to open the document inline, i.e. using the appropriate plugin, which is Adobe PDF in this case. When the user clicks Save As..., the document filename needs to be the one specified by the same HTTP header. Here is the code:

The plugin uses the default name, which is the full URL of the document. I tried several combinations of HTTP headers, but neither worked. I tried putting an additional GET request parameter at the end of the URL, like ...&filename=filename.pdf , but that didn't work either.
I tried Adobe 7.0 and 8.1.2.
Any suggestions ?

Needless to say I tried opening the document in IE, FF and Chrome, and neither worked.
I had a look at the code at your web site, and saw that you were serving files for direct download: Content-Dispositoin:attachment... .
This works fine for me too, and the filename is recognized correctly in that case. The problem is, I want to display the PDF inline...
My server is not configured for URL rewriting, and I would be probably quite some problem to make this app work with it, so the /filename.pdf is not an option for me.

FIle Content Conversion Problem in IDOC-XI-File Scenario

I am doing IDOC-XI-FILE scenario.
I am facing one problem related to File Content Coversion.My requirement was to generate a dynamic file like <b>%store_code%_%current_date%_sitemaster.xml</b> , I have completed the dynamic generation successfully .
Now there is slight change in the requirement ,<b>we have to suppress the current_date node of the xml content</b> . i have tried to suppress the current_date using these <b>DATE.fieldFixedLengths 0 , Date.fixedLengthTooShortHandling Cut</b> , But I am unable to suppress it Can some body provide me the details on this .
The output xml version generated by Reciever file adapter is as below :

If u see my earlier reply, I mentioned that u can not suppress the field from the one node.i.e Form SITE_DATA data type u can not suppress the field called CURRENT_DATE.
My suggestion is that , modify the Data type in such a way that you will be having two nodes as I have mentioned earlier. Then use the Suppress Logic for the Current Date.
So it will look like this-

<STORE_CODE>N002</STORE_CODE>

So ur SITE_DATA is not having a field called CURRENT_DATE. This field is in separate node (segment ) called CURR_DATE. Now u can use the Suppress Logic for the same like this.
CURR_DATE.fieldFixedLengths - 0
CURR_DATE.fixedLengthTooShortHanling - Cut
And in your Variable Substitution you can use the date from the other segment called CURR_DATE.
