Content slides in question pools?

Can content slides be used in question pools?  Same for random question mode? I am in a captivate 7 trial.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
Could you explain what you want to achieve? Maybe I could then make a proposal, question pools are meant for questions. You always insert 'one' random slide, and I suppose you want to insert a random 'group' of slides, content + questions?

  • Assign points to quiz slides using Question Pools Manager

Is it possible to assign the points to be reported for a slide when using the Question Pools Manager?
If one slide, for example, has 10 points, and another slide has 5 points, when they are both added to a question pool, do their loose their original number of points and get assigned whatever number of points chosen when a random slide is added to the pool?
I hope someone can clarify. Thanks.

I just checked in Captivate 5 and it looks like the scoring is associated with the Question Pool slide, not the Question slide that gets randomly inserted.
If you're trying to achieve a result where the difficulty of the question matched the number of points awarded for getting it right, you might need to set up a number of question pools.  E.g. one pool for easy questions, another for medium difficulty, and a third for really difficult ones.  Assign 1 or 2 points as the default for the easy ones, maybe 5 for medium, and 10 points for hard ones.
This is what I do in fact.

  • Quiz slide not advance when using question pools and advance answer options?

    Hi,
I am using CP 5.5. I created a small test where I have just 2 question in a question pool.  The questions are using the advanced answer options to show some specific feedback. When I insert the questions in to the project using a random question slide, after the user answers where you should be able to press Y or click to move on, I click, but nothing happens.  You can't get off the quiz slide.  The quiz slides work fine when they are inserted in the project as reqular quiz slides, but not when they are being pulled from a question pool.
Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround? Anyone else run in to this?
    Thanks!
      Lori

I was having the same problem on the last Random Question slide (total 10 RQ slides), and was able to fix it by following the next steps:
Make sure Quiz: Pass or Fail actions are set to Continue for both Passing and Failing actions in the quiz preferences.
Delete the RQ slide not advancing, then duplicate one of the RQ slides working, and assign your question pool to the new slide if different from the original duplicate. This step will make sure you are using a good working RQ slide.
For some reason, my last RQ slide was corrupted and wasn't advancing to the Score slide at the end of the quiz.
I can finally finish this project.
    Good luck.

  • Captivate 4 Question Pool Slides Show Ghosts

Random question slides display captions from previous slides
when I publish to Flash 8-10. Publishing to Flash 7 or using the
same questions (but not as random questions) cures the problem.
The captions appear on all but one random question slide (8
of 10 doesn't display the problem). The captions are from four
upstream slides each of which has different rollover captions. The
problematic question slides show all the rollover captions,
    superimposed over the question.
The PC showing the problem is running Win XP SP3, Flash WIN
10,0,22,87. Other PC's at the same site do have the problem when
    running the same published show.
I've tried recreating the question pool from the original
question slides, recreating the random question slides,
uninstalling and reinstalling Flash on the target PC with the same
    results.
    Any one else noticed this?
Any suggestions for a fix other than publishing in Flash 7?

Did you or others submit an official bug report?

  • Transition for Question Pool Slides

    Captivate v5.5
I have a question pool of 20 slides with 5 random slides in the main project.
I have applied "Blinds" as a transition option to all 20 slides in the question pool.
When I test the questions (F8 starting on the slide before the first random question slide), the transitions do not work.
    Any idea?
    Noel

    Hi Rod,
I previewed the whole project (F4) and still the transition did not work.
Having to publish it (eg to .exe I presume you mean) before I can check the slide transition seems a little long winded - but I will give it a go just in case.
    Thanks...

  • Results slide showing all question pool results not just the ones completed.

I have several question pools which have the option to be taken independently or separately.
If the user does not take all seven of the modules then the quiz results slide at the end is incorrect as it will report all of the questions not just the ones attempted.
I have tried the Branch aware option in the quiz results option but that did not worth.
It this an easy fix or does it require me to add a variable count for each correct answer.
    Many thanks
    Rick

Branch aware should be just fine for that case, why do you tell it is not working? Branch Aware Quiz - Captivate blog
When you say 'score slide is not reporting correctly', I had no such problems.
You could create a custom score slide indeed, using variables, but what if you have to report as a SCORM? Only possibility in that case is Branch aware.

  • Setting a Conditional Action for Pre-Test questions: Skipping Content Slides

OK boys and girls, let's see if this is even possible within one course SCO, or if this a multi-SCO solution (which means I'm toast, because we don't have the multi-SCO aggregator)?
I want to set up a prescriptive pre-test. In my ideal world, answers to each individual question would either enable or disable the content slides connected to the question. If the user passes the pre-test, they could opt to skip the prescriptive stuff and complete the course. If the user fails the pretest, they would have to view the enabled content.
Is this even possible in a single SCO world?
    Justenuf

Jim belongs in that pantheon of good guys as well, so many here have pointed me in the right direction and helped me move forward with the capabilities of this software. And, in that spirit - here's my work around for the pretest/post test in a SCORM 1.2 environment:
Created an entrance slide that allows opting totake the pretest or not - but only allows you to take it once.
Created one test (take off the question x of x widget) split it and slide the content in between it. In this case, 10 questions with 5 in each set.
Titled the first set of questions as a PreTest and the second set as a Post Test.
Set my passing score at 4 correct. (the user only needs to get 4 out 5 on either set correct to pass - and I'm setting up an action that only allows the user to see the questions they missed if they fail the pretest.)
Created variables for each "pretest" question and set them at 0. Created on Enter advanced actions on each slide following a question that toggled the variable to 1 if the question was answered correctly  if "CpQuizInfoLastSlidepointScored is equal to 1" then "Assign Question<x> with 1"
Created an On Enter advanced action for each content area slide "Skip #" that allowed prescription:
"If Question # is equal to 1 or cpQuizInfoPassFail is equal to 1, then Go to Next Slide"
Only the content connected to the missed questions in the pretest is seen.
Copied the same On Enter advanced action the Post test questions and renamed it "SkipPost #" that allowed prescription:
"If Question # is equal to 1 or cpQuizInfoPassFail is equal to 1, then Go to Next Slide"
Only the questions related to the reviewed content are seen
The sum total of these activities is the following -
The user can choose to take the pretest and complete the course by gettiong 4 or 5 questions correct and jump to the exit page.
If the user takes the pretest and scores lower than 80%, the content for the missed questions is viewed and the user must answer the questions regarding
that content. The user passes the course when he/she answers the fourth question correctly.
The user can choose to view the content, take the post test and pass the course by answering 4 of 5 correctly.
it's running right in preview, in web browser preview and on my LMS previewer, with one navigation error.
the error: after failing the pretest, taking the prescribed content and anse wering the questions correctly, the course occasionally jumps to the results page
and s displays a failure message, then freezes in place. it does NOT happen each time, which is why I am cy urrently scurrying back to my happy place to dwell
         on this mystery awhile.

  • Remediate to content slide; return to question; then continue on - using Captivate 8

Using Captivate 8, I’m trying to remediate from a Knowledge Check question slide back to a content slide, then back to the KC question to try again, and then continue on from there.  On my first instance, this works fine.  However, the problems began on the second instance and continue on each instance thereafter. The settings on the KC question slides are all the same with the exception of which slide each jumps to for remediation.  I don't understand why it works the first time, but doesn’t work after that. On the second instance the question jumps back to the content slide, but then skips any subsequent slides.   Anyone had a similar experience?  Know of a workaround or what I might be doing wrong?
FYI, I'm using he E-Learning Uncovered Adobe Captivate 8 book by Elkins, Pinder, and Slade as a reference, and it clearly describes how to do this on page 183, "Remediation back to Content Slides - If students get a question wrong, you can branch back to one or several slides where the content was taught and then return them back to the quiz to retry the question.  To add remediation branching:  1) in the last attempt field on the question, set a Jump to Slide action to the first slide with the content.  2) On the last slide with the content, add a return to Quiz action on the slide's next button.  On the content slide, the Next button with the Return to Quiz action executes a Continue action under normal circumstances, but returns students to the quiz if that's where they came from."

Slide 9 – Knowledge Check Question -Remediates back to slide 5 if user misses two attempts to answer; slide 5 returns user to Slide 9 for one last try at question, then advances to Slide 10 (works perfectly)
Slide 11 – Content (here’s the first problem; on click, slide 11 jumps to the Knowledge Check Question on Slide 13, skipping slide 12)
    Slide 12 – Content
Slide 13 – Knowledge Check Question that remediates back to slide 11 if user misses on 2 attempts to answer; slide 11 should return user here for one last try at question, then advance to Slide 14
    Slide14 – Content
Slide 15 – Content (here’s the second problem; on click, slide 15 jumps to the Knowledge Check Question on Slide 19, skipping slides 16, 17, and 18)
    Slide 16 – Content
    Slide 17 – Content
    Slide 18 – Content

I've tried contacting Adobe, too, but with no clear resolution yet.  One suggestion they gave me was to put the slide you are remediating back to right before the question slide.  However, if you can only remediate back to the slide immediately before the question slide, that limits this functionality severely.  My solution has been to remediate to a duplicate, but separate content slide using buttons rather than quiz logic.  Cumbersome, but it works.

created by camelothome in Quizzing/LMS - View the full discussionI have the same problem with my project.  If the player detects that a quiz has begun, it sees it as in quiz scope.  Thus, when it encounters the next slide after the quiz slides that has "Return to Quiz" as the Exit Action, it instead goes to the next set of quiz questions and skips a bunch of content slides. I don't know where I read it, but I thought that if the slide was being visited for the first time, and did not come from a quiz, the "Return to Quiz" would have no effect and it would continue to the next content slide.  Perhaps I am wrong, but I thought that was the correct behavior. I've attempted to get help from Adobe, but the operator was not very helpful.  He wanted me to upload my file using wetransfer.com but gave me an invalid e-mail address.  Since that was the second attempt to get help, I gave up on Adobe Support.  Although I get the suggest above, it's a pain, especially since I don't have buttons on the content slides.  I have the player just playing with the playbar available for pauses.  So, now I have to create some sort of workaround using variables, but I don't think this is how it's supposed to work.  In fact, I'm not sure what I did yesterday that caused it to work correctly for a while, but I'm pretty sure I didn't change anything related to this.  Of course, then it stopped working. I find Adobe Captivate to be pretty buggy and it's put me way behind in delivering a product to my client.  I'm very frustrated. • Captivate 8: Can I create a random question pool from existing quiz slides?

I made a quiz for a client, published it out and everything works perfectly.  Now the client has decided that they want the questions to be random.  I have tried to add my existing question slides to the question pool, however I have no idea how to do this correctly.  Nothing I try seems to work - the only tutorial I could find was on the Adobe site and it simply said to create a question pool and then drag the slides to the timeline, replacing the question pool slides with the existing slides.  But I cannot drag the slides for some reason, and I am very confused about these directions, they don't seem to mesh with my version of Captivate.
My questions weren't part of a question pool when I developed this quiz as I had no idea such a thing existed. And now I see through every tutorial I find, a question pool is necessary for randomizing the questions.  So, my question is... is there a way to do this with existing question slides, or will I have to start all over again?

    Hi there
Should be even simpler. Select the question slides and right-click. There should be an option to send them to the desired pool!
    Cheers... Rick

  • Can I insert pretest questions as knowledge checks between content slides and before a graded quiz without affecting the scoring of the graded quiz? Help documentation states that they should be used before a course begins.

Can I insert pretest questions as knowledge checks between content slides and before a graded quiz without affecting the scoring of the graded quiz? Help documentation states that they should be used before a course begins.
If I use both pretest questions and graded questions, can I also include remedial with return to quiz for both?

Sorry, but I gave two workarounds: my preference is custom question slides, but you can also have questions slides where you do not add the score to the Total score. They will not be reported to the LMS and can act as Knowledge slides. Only some quizzing system variables can count all question slides, including the Knowledge slides, but the core variables (score, maximum score, percentage) will be correct. Here some links to my blog, that could help you:
System variables in Captivate 8 - Captivate blog
Intermediate Score Slides - Captivate blog
That each SCORM module can have only one quiz is a SCORM requirement, not a a Captivate specific feature. Camtasia is bit difficult to compare, it is not a fully blown authoring tool although the best video screen capture tool around (video is non interactive by definition). I don't use Storyline, but cannot imagine that they shouldn't create SCORM-compliant files.

  • Question pools

We have just started testing Captivate and one of the questions I've gotten is on question pool.  If we have a project/SCO that when it is packaged with one group of SCOs requires the student to take a quiz and pass at a certain level this same project/SCO also gets packaged with another group of SCOs to make another course where the student just has to view the content.  Is it best to have a separate section that has the questions or to imbed the questions in the SCO.
Rereading this it sounds convuluted but I'm hoping someone will understand what I mean.

    Welcome to our community, Michelle
Question Pools are designed to be used with Random Question
Slides. Basically it works like this.
    Define a pool.
Add questions to the pool. In your case, you have defined 4
    questions.
Now in your project, you click Quiz > Random Question
Slide to insert a Random Question.
Point the slide at the pool.
Repeat by inserting a second Random Question Slide.
Now you should have a project that presents two different
    questions from the pool.

  • How can I get Captivate to score across multiple question pools?

I have set up a Captivate assessment as follows:
A core set of 50 questions will be presented to all learners
Depending on where the learner is, he will receive an additional 10 questions from one of 5 location-specific pools
Learners will see a total of 60 questions
I have my question pools set up and branching correctly, and am using the Branch Aware option to assist with this and the progress indicator. Before the first question I have the learner click one of several buttons (not quiz elements) to set a location variable, and after presenting the core questions I use this variable to determine which random question slide to jump to next (with set of slides pointing to a different question pool). After asking the 10 random questions from that pool the learner is then redirected to the review slide so only one set of location-specific slides is encoutnered on each attempt.
All of that seems to be working as designed but the scoring is not behaving as I had expected; despite the fact that all questions are asked before the review slide is presented (i.e. all questions are within the quiz scope in both the edit-time and run-time sense) the review slide only reports results from the first question pool. For example, in a test file I reduced the question slides for the first pool to only display 2 questions, for a total of 12 presented, but my results show "0 of 2 correct" or "2 of 2 correct." The pass/fail results of the module match the review slide, so this is not a simple display issue; if I miss either of the two questions from the first pool I fail regardless of what happens in the second pool.
What am I missing? Surely there wouldn't be the option of using multiple question pools if only one could be graded ...
I am working on Captivate 6.0.1 64-bit for Windows. FWIW the file was originally created in Captivate 5 and has since been upconverted, but the additional question pools weren't introduced until after the conversion processes so I wouldn't expect this to be related to residual crud left over from that process.

Thanks for the quick response ...
I had already tried deleting the review slide itself, though Captivate wouldn't let me - it just hid it. I tried again using the method you recommended but the slide remained in the filmstrip, so I tried deleting again, then re-added it from the Quiz Settings page ... no joy, same behavior as before.
I checked the Advanced Interaction page and confirmed that all of the scored questions were configuredthe same way as the non-scored questions, with the only difference being the pool that they were drawing from.
Other thoughts? I am by no means a Captivate expert but this one really feels like it shouldn't be this hard, and I'm more than a little afraid that it's the file itself that's jacked up ...

  • How to make a question pool with MANY questions?

I would like to make a question pool
with several thousand questions, which I currently have in an
Excel file. Is there a way around having manually to enter all
questions in a Captivate question pool?
    Thanks.

I would use the XML function from Captivate 4.
    - Make yourself a test quiz with two slides, one being a multiple choice.
    - Export it to XML
    - Open the XML File in Excel
Good point to start with is ns1:g and ns1:Source26.
Most likely you can get all your question into captivate that way.

  • Resolution of question pools

I have created a pool of question from which I want to add
random questions to a few different presentations but when I import
the question pool and then add a random slide to the project the
question is cut off by the size of the project. I think I was in a
project that was 1024x768 when I created the questions but when I
add the questions to a project that is 640x480 the question get cut
off. I just thought the text would wrap and the answers would just
move down but this is not happening.
If anyone has any suggestions how I can get round this
without having to enter in all the questions again

    Welcome to our community, IDWT
Have you tried opening just one of the questions for editing
    in the smaller project?
Sometimes that is all that is needed with some applications.
You may find that the elements pop into the viewable area if you do
    that.
Then again, it may make no difference whatsoever. Nothing
should be lost by trying to see.
