Content viewer -- archive or shred?

As a complete fan of all things Adobe,  I apologize for my title.  I'm almost ready to publish my first indesign/dps app, but I've just spent 3 days going in circles, trying to fix what may not be fixable.  I wanted some advice before I start from scratch.
Was testing my app in the adobe content viewer and made the mistake -- yes, I made the mistake -- of hitting "ARCHIVE".   I don't think that word actually describes what  happened-- I think the label may need to be changed to 'SHRED."
I was having an HTML 5 hiccup, so I blissfully hit Archive  thinking I would then be able to download the entire thing once again, you know, a fresh copy.    Big mistake?
I changed a few articles, uploaded them -- and the folio  shows up in acrobat.com -- and dps folio producer online.  However, content viewer sees nothing.
I've  tried uninstalling content viewer on the ipad, in itunes  -- and resyncing.  The folio has vanished.   I tried sharing again from Indesign and the error message  says "user already has access to this folio."  Acrobat says the same thing, so does DPS online.  I am now a little gunshy of  the 'unshare' choice in acrobat.
Is there a work around?  Change the name of the app?
You shouldn't have to create a brand new user-- and you shouldn't have to upload the entire folio again-- there should be a way for the content viewer to view your content again, yes?
Then again, I shouldn't have hit 'archive' in the first place.  Adobe, please consider a more appropriate name.
Thanks for listening...
I am ever hopeful-- but will probably upload a new version of the app... it is a very big app.
Happy New Year to all,
nancy p

Hmm.  In the same acrobat.com account, have you tried to create a quick 'dummy' folio (just a simple one pager) that would at least confirm if you've got access to the account from the viewer?  Upload that new dummy folio, then Sign In again in the Content Viewer.  If that dummy isn't showing up, something's wrong and it's probably not the Content Viewer.
Another test?  Create a brand NEW acrobat.com account and upload the dummy or first page of your other folio that new account.  Sign in to the Content Viewer.  If you see your folio.....
After that, I'd hit that UNSHARE choice as fast as lightning (blue lightning!).  I found the whole share/unshare very goofy.

  • How can I view content that I've archived on the iPad Adobe Content Viewer?

Sorry, I'm new to the DPS process. I tapped "Archive" in the Adobe Content Viewer thinking that I would be able to retrieve it from the archive. I haven't been able to find that capability yet! I've tried renaming the document in InDesign and updating, thinking the project would appear in the content viewer. Again, no dice. I even deleted the content viewer from the iPad and reinstalled. Logged out, logged in. No dice. I cannot seem to have any luck seeing my project again. It was displaying just fine earlier today. Damn curiosity! Why did I tap on the archive button? Any help would be much appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Dave

I guess what I was asking is when you tap Archive in the Adobe Content Viewer on the iPad there is a pop-up that says "Are you sure you want to Archive?" and "This item will be removed from your device. You may download it again at anytime for free." But there is no option to do this within the iPad app! At least none that I can see.
I ended up creating a new folio with the same articles. It works now, but the archive function is not intuitive! It should work the same as when you archive magazines in the Newstand app. I mean, that's how people expect it to work. I guess in Adobe speak archive = delete!
Anyway, if you archive something it removes it from the app and you will not see a download button.
    Thanks!

  • How can I delete Adobe's intro folio from Content Viewer on iPad?

I've been building a demo folio for my boss to use pitching to a client, on the iPad.  We would like the opening screen of Adobe Content Viewer to list only our own folio(s), not Adobe's intro one about how to use the content viewer.  This folio doesn't have an archive button next to it, and I haven't found any way to delete it, whether I'm signed in with my Adobe ID or not...
    Is it possible?

This typically means the folio is no longer available for download from the Folio Producer Service.
If it were, it should appear and have a "download" button next to it after archiving.

  • How can I delete an unwanted folio from ipad content viewer?

I have deleted the folio from the digital publishing suite, but that did not remove it from the ipad.
There does not seem to be any option to delete it from the ipad content viewer as only "resume" and "view" are available as actionable options for this folio.
    Hope someone can help

Thanks - I was hoping for something built in as the problem with this folio was that there were errors in the indesign software (had to uninstall and reinstall) and so the folio was not able to complete the download. So there was no option to "archive". I can imagine that a folio not being able to properly download would not be that unusual and having to uninstall and reinstall the content viewer is a nuisance!
Of well, I will give it a try and cross my fingers that it does not keep hapenning!
Thanks for your help - I will report back what happens

  • Content Viewer won't update file on tablet

Hello.  My content viewer on my Nexus 7 won't update all the way.  What I mean is, the app comes up fine, and I've refreshed/archived it several times.  The logo/picture in the content viewer next to the file updates, the viewer number updates, but the file itself is still showing the original version.
Any ideas how I can fix this or what is going on?  I'm working on InDesign CS5.5 and just recently installed the Content Viewer on my Nexus 7.

I am having the same issue in CS6 Indesign. I try to preview using the desktop viewer and nothing happens, it silently fails.
I have uninstalled Indesign CS6 (including preferences), Uninstalled adobe Air 3.3. Uninstalled the content viewer.
rebooted, reinstalled air rebooted, reinstalled Indesign CS6 rebooted...
    And it still doesn't work!
I think it may be to do with AIR rather than InDesign because it goes through the progressbars in InDesign and I have previously a BETA version of AIR that caused an issue else where, even though this is now uninstalled and the latest release of AIR is installed it still is failing to comunicate with AIR.
    Any ideas...
    thanks Geoff

  • Content Viewer not refreshing, old folios disappeared

I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this and if this issue is related to some of the other download problem threads?
My clients contacted me that they were unable to see recent updates I made to our shared development folio. I was able to replicate this as my own folios have stopped updating since yesterday afternoon.
I deleted and re-installed the content viewer on my iPad, and since then all my previous folios fail to show up on the iPad.
I created a small folio, with a blank page, this does show up. However any updates with a bit of content in them appear to upload correctly, but the folios no longer refresh on the iPad.
Several clients also tried to either "archive" existing folios in the hope that they would subsequently refresh, or deleted the content viewer from their iPads with similar resuts to mine.
When starting the content viewer I coccasionally receive a message that says "Cannot contact server, an error has occurred"
    Are other folks experiencing this?
    Thanks, JB

OK, I figured out this was an orientation issue, related to a bug discussed in post:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3831423#3831423
Apparently when uploading something like a 1024x4000 vertical smooth scrolling stacks, one must
a.) specify an  _h filename postfix (makes sense)
b.) Do NOT use the "add" or "update" function of the folio producer tools, but instead use the "import" function for the file's orientation to be interpreted correctly (a work-around)
c.) After import, change the default orientation after importing a _h postfix file from horizontal only to "both" or "vertical"

There a a few problems/limitations I'm running into with the Adobe Content Viewer for Ipad 1 (not tested on 2), like:
Autoplaying more than 1 multiple-state is impossible. Only the object in the highest place in the layers is visible (like having pulsing navigation arrows and a fade in text) -works perfectly in de windows Adobe Content Viewer with Indesign 5.5
Autoplay of an multistate object with 'stop at last frame' does not work. It just fades the entire multistate object out, instead of holding. -works perfectly in de windows Adobe Content Viewer with Indesign 5.5.
Cropping Images (changing the objectbox) in indesign, becomes skewed (or squashed) like the image just gets pushed in the new objectbox size.
Buttons with a click image/appearence become invisible in a multistate object. -works perfectly in de windows Adobe Content Viewer with Indesign 5.5.
    Some ideas for change
Not allowing an Overlay (which is larger than the page itself) on a page depth of 1, on top of a page with depth 0. Seeing content of the page below the currentpage seems quite unuseful.
Allow multistate objects to autoplay within another multistate object (thus allowing like a: menu catagorie wich can call an autoplaying slideshow)
Zooming in on an image without first having to tap on it to enable zooming.
    Updating content button.
Hitting the update button in Indesign cs5.5 (windows) doesn't update all changed content.
Hitting download update in de Adobe Content Viewer (Ipad 1) doesn't change all changed content. Archive and redownload nessesary.

    Update on 24-Feb-2012
There are a few problems/limitations I'm running into with the Adobe Content Viewer for Ipad 1 (not tested on 2), like:
Navto:// crashes to non preloaded pages with slideshow:
    Additional information/ text examples:
                    - Say we are on page 2. depth 2:  and you link to page 4 with depth 1 (not 0/first) (which has a slideshow on that page) This results in a crash.
                    - Linking to pages with depth 0 (and have slideshows, works.
                    - Say we are on Page 2, depth 3 and link to Page 3 depth 2 with a slideshow, works.
                    - Linking to all next to pages and top pages with slideshows, works.
Fixed (viewer 2.3.1) Autoplaying more than 1 multiple-state is impossible. Only the object in the highest place in the layers is visible
(like having pulsing navigation arrows and a fade in text) -works perfectly in de windows Adobe Content Viewer with Indesign 5.5

  • Avoid duplicated files in Adobe Content Viewer.

Every folio I publish and view by adobe content viewer has 02 copies. Why does it happen? Why one have a blue label and the other not?

    Emme-
    1. A custom viewer is a branded app such as The New Yorker or Martha Stewart Living. The Adobe Content Viewer is the app used for testing.
    2. Any article you create when you're signed in is uploaded to the acrobat.com viewer. When you sign in to the Adobe Content Viewer using the same account, you can download the folios, which appear with a blue stripe. These folios on acrobat.com do not appear in a custom viewer app. You need to publish the folios to get them to appear in the custom viewer.
    3. Restart the Adobe Content Viewer. If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the Adobe Content Viewer.
    4. When you archive a folio, it deletes it completely from the iPad.
You might want to watch a few basic videos to learn more about the new workflow:

(Archive of older Folio Producer tools)

  • Content Viewer for iOS is approved

I've updated the master thread at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/998106?tstart=0. Apple approved the v20 Adobe Content Viewer this morning. It should show up in the app store in the next few hours.
This completes the approval of all viewers for the v20 release.

One folio simply refuses to update and crashes every time.  Signed out in order to archive...app crashes upon hitting Archive.  Finally able to get rid of it and redownload
Now the redownload is taking forever.  Mayhap there's a server problem?
    This is just painful.

  • Shared folio stopped updating in Content Viewer

It appears that updates have stopped being pushed to a relatively large shared folio that we're working on (it is still internal and has not been published). Updates to this folio were working just fine, but they seem to have stopped sometime in the past two weeks. Here's what I know:
I am logged into my Adobe account in Content Viewer
I can view the "old" version of the folio that's currently stored on my iPad
The new content is visible in Folio Producer Editor (so it made it's way from InDesign to Adobe's servers)
No "Update Available" message appears in Content Viewer
We've attempted to share the folio with other Adobe accounts, and it won't push out to their accounts
I tried archiving it on my iPad, and it's now completely gone from Content Viewer (even though it's still shared with my Adobe Account)
Updates to other shared folios and new folios are being pushed through just fine, so it appears that Content Viewer is communicating with Adobe properly. It's just this one large folio - with 50+ articles and metadata fully populated - that suddenly decided it didn't want to update anymore.
My fear is that the folio is corrupt and that we are going to have to rebuild it, which will likely take several hours. Is there a way to quickly clone and publish a folio?  Is there some new setting in Folio Producer that we need to activate? Would updating to the latest version of Builder and Producer Tools have screwed things up (which I doubt, since other folios are behaving normally)?
    Thanks,
    - Chris

I too having the same problem like you guys, it just suddenly stop working for me 3 days ago. It did noticed there's an update but failed to download it.
Cannot update libary.  An error has occurred.
Digtial publishing suite Tips, a magazine I just downloaded yesterday also having the same error.
I also noticed that my "Fast company" stop working as well, keep giving me the same error.
Some other DPS magzine fair bit better, didn't give me any error but have slow downloads.

  • Updates to Adobe Content Viewer

Can anyone explain the Folio update process to me?
I can't seem to get updated Folios from InDesign to appear on my viewer?  I've updated within the folio builder tab but it's not kicking them out to my iPad.
I also have a blue thunderbolt banner in the upper left hand corner. What should I know about that?
What does it mean to archive? I've archive it several times trying to get my updates pushed out.
Any advice on this whole process would be very helpful. I must be doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Cam

Make sure you're signed into the iPad with the same login info you used to sign into the Folio Builder.

The acrobat.com server contains all folios that appear in your Folio Builder panel. The Distribution Service contains all published folios. • IPhone's Content Viewer

I have created some alternate layouts with CS6 and have created folio's and they look fine on my iPhone with the Content Viewer. I have deleted them on the Folio Producer at digitalpublishing.acrobat.com and have also deleted them via the Folio Builder panel but they are still showing on my iPhone.
I don't have an archive button like on the iPad version of Content Viewer. So how do I get rid of these viewer items? I have signed out, quit the app, and signed back in but they are still there.

That's part of the iPhone UI. You need to swipe from the right edge of the folio name to reveal a Delete button. This is the same way you delete podcasts, by the way.

  • Private app distribution: dev version / testflight / adobe content viewer / b2b distribution

    Hi Adobe Community!
I am finalizing an app for my company that is supposed to be distributed only among our distributors. Apple rejected my Enterprise inquiry since our distributors are not our employees. I wanted to sum up my distribution options now and ask you for feedback. I do not plan to use App Store.
    1. B2B distribution through apple
I can distribute custom b2b app through Apple, but it is available only in few european countries and this does not cover our needs since we cannot supply to all distributors. Also the process looks very complicated and I'd like to not use it.
    2. Adobe Content Viewer distribution
If I tell my customers to download Adobe Content Viewer and sign in with my Adobe ID, the newest version of folios will be automatically downloaded to their devices?
Also on Adobe website it is stated that my folios should be automatically uploaded to Adobe servers - but they are not. From what I read on the forums I understood that it is only available to Creative Cloud subscribers, is it right? If I subscribe will I be able to use this way for as many users I want?
    3. Developer version
Finally I know that I can distribute dev version. I will have to register devices UDIDs but they will expire (after what time?) and how many UDIDs can I register (I read in different places that I can have 50 or 100 testers).
    4. TestFlight
What I undestood so far is that facilitates developeloper version distribution, but wouldn't I be able to use this tool to go around UDIDs expiration?
    Thank a lot!

With DPS enterprise and Apple enterprise account, you can built and deploy enterprised signed app internally within your organisation. Create the app, deploy and host it internally, so anyone who has access to the link can download the app. Not sure if Apple terms allows your distributors from outside your organisation to access and download the app hosted internally within your organisation, check that with Apple.
If Apple terms does not allow, then you can use DPS restricted distribution method to deploy the app on the Appstore, but allow someone access to the content only if they are authenticated via the app, called direct entitlement or restricted distribution. Go here for details: Using restricted distribution with Digital Publishing Suite
Signing in to ACV does not automatically download the latest folio. Your folios are always uploaded on Adobe servers, you cannot host it somewhre else. Anyone can create, upload folios and see the folio in the Adobe Content Viewer. But publishing the folio to be available in an app requires DPS subscription.
You can register upto 100 UDID's on Apple dev portal. I don't think the UDID's expires so long as your Apple Dev account is active but the certificates expires exactly one year from the day it was generated.
