There is Context for Linux but it is a part of the Enterprise
edition and not part of the free Development Edition. I believe
the situation is the same for all platforms. If you want Context
you need to pay for it :-(.

I take you did not understand my response or simply chose to
ignore it. Early Adopters Realease = EAR = Pre-production release
Look at my response to your earlier message.. If that is not too

  • 9iDS for Linux - OWB, Disco Admin etc are missing from download

I've just installed 9iDS release 2 on a laptop running SuSE 8.0 and Oracle 9i release 2 Enterprise Edition.
As my work primarily involves 9i database and OWB 9i, I was to say the least dissappointed that 9iDS for Linux does not include OWB, or for that matter Disco Admin or Reports Admin.
When you go to download 9iDS for Linux, the download page says "This download includes the full distribution of Oracle9iDS", and the previous page (which lists all the elements of the download, next to the links for Windows, Linux, HP-UX and so on) does not in any way indicate that OWB is not included in the download.
There is, separately downloadable, an 'early adopters' release of OWB for Linux, but this does not include the bridging technology to Discoverer, Express and 9i OLAP. As it's 'early adopted' presumably it's not too stable.
Has anyone used this? Has anyone tried using a laptop purely with Linux on it as a way of using 9iDS? Does anyone at Oracle know when a full release of 9iDS, with all the elements found in the Windows release, will be made available? In the meantime, Oracle should clearly state on the Linux download page that not all the elements of 9iDS are found in the Linux version.

    Hi,
What you need to do is:
    cat ALUI_Interaction_MP1 | \
    sed "s/export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/#xport LD_ASSUME_KERNEL/" > \
    ALUI_Interaction_MP1_sed
This command will get sed to create a new file that has removed the LD_ASSUME_KERNEL from it. Thus you can run the file and it shouldnt give you any errors.
    Thanks.

    John -
You are missing some required Linux files. When you install
Linux, pick the 'everything' option, then weed out the obvious
things you don't want (like the Serbian How-To's, etc.)
I say this because I ran into the exact same thing this past
weekend after picking and choosing which packages to install for
Linux. After re-installing with the 'everything' option, the
Oracle install went swimmingly. I wish I could tell you which
package in particular you are missing, but I never figured that
    out.

  • [SOLVED]How to install this font : it doens't seem available for Linux

    Hi everyone,
I'm currently running Gnome, and I'm trying to have the same theme than here : http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ … ent=108433. I've installed and used the Hydra theme : no problems with that.
The only thing I miss now is his font, I read the comments, and it's said the font used is "Zero Threes", they give a link (it's on page 2 if you want to check) : http://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/Zero_Threes.htm
The problem is the font seems to be available on Mac and Windows, but I coulnd't find it for Linux. But the guy seem to have Linux and he's using it, so could somebody explain to me how can I get the font for linux ? Or if there is a way to install a Windows or a Mac font in Linux ?
    Thanks you in advance !

Or, to make them available to all the users copy them to /usr/share/fonts/truetype directory.

  • Novell Client for Linux 2 beta & VMWare - bridged only?

OpenSUSE 11.1 with Novell Client for Linux 2.0 SP2 beta.
OpenSUSE is installed as a VMWare Workstation guest using NAT. When attempting to use contextless login, the Novell Client hangs. If you disable contextless login and then browse to the right context, you can login OK.
If you change the virtual NIC from NAT to Bridged, contextless login works fine. If at all possible, we need to use Bridged instead of NAT (long story).
Any idea what could be the problem? From what I can tell, SLP, DA, etc are set correctly, but I could be wrong.
    Thanks.

Use NAT only if you need NAT - otherwise use bridged.
    Thorsten
I was afraid that someone was goign to say something like that :)
We use port security hardware on our network, which will disable a port on the switch if it detects multiple MAC addresses on the same port. A virtual machine's bridged networking sets port security off and disables the port, so we have had to resort to NAT for all virtual machines. We can ask for exceptions to be made for a subset of our lab computers, but that is not an ideal solution.
Not only is that extra overhead for us to manage these exceptions, but we will not be able to realize our long-term goal of providing the virtual machine to our students to use on their personal notebooks since we cannot provide them port security exceptions.
I am still having problems grasping the reason that a contextless lookup (via LDAP, I assume) would misbehave while coming from a NATted connection but a bridged connection works fine on the exact same virtual machine. Shouldn't the communication between the VM and the LDAP server work properly either way??

  • In LabVIEW for Linux, cannot link to a shared library file (.so).

    Hello all,
I'm having trouble using the Call Library Function Node within LabVIEW for Linux (using Ubuntu).  I can configure my Node correctly, and it sees the available function within it with all the proper parameters, but when I close the Call Library Function dialog box it does a quick search and asks me to Find the Shared Library Named "mySharedLibraryName."  If I select it again, it merely repeats this over and over until I cancel.  Has anyone seen this before or know what is causing this?  The .so file was compiled using gcc++ - is there anything specific that should have been included (does it need a header file)?  Could some missing file be causing this?
    Thanks,
    Jason

The elf shared library format is a supported feature of all Linux distributions since about Linux 1.0 or earlier. So it is not really an issue that Ubuntu wouldn't support shared libraries as used by the LabVIEW Call Library Node. Since the Call Library Node seems to be able to see the exported functions during selection of the function it also doesn't seem to be a problem with proper export of the symbols.
This leaves over some dependencies of the shared library on some other shared libraries including C runtime libraries. Was the shared library compiled on the system you try to use it? If not you may have an incompatibility of the C runtime library version used on the system that was used to compile the shared library and your Ubuntu system you try to load it.

  • LabVIEW 8.0.1 Update for Linux

    Hello,
I just downloaded the update for LabVIEW for Linux an tried to install like it is described.
    The following output occurs:
    Installing...
/bin/sh: /soft/natinst/lv801-update/bin/INSTALL.norpm: No such file or directory
/bin/sh: /soft/natinst/lv801-update/bin/INSTALL.norpm: No such file or directory
/bin/sh: /soft/natinst/lv801-update/bin/INSTALL.norpm: No such file or directory
/bin/sh: /soft/natinst/lv801-update/bin/INSTALL.norpm: No such file or directory
Would you like to install NI Example Finder (LabVIEW 8.0.1)? [Ynq]
/bin/sh: /soft/natinst/lv801-update/bin/INSTALL.norpm: No such file or directory
/bin/sh: /soft/natinst/lv801-update/bin/INSTALL.norpm: No such file or directory
    LabVIEW package installation complete.
    Launching LabVIEW Mass Compile utility.
When I start LabVIEW after the obviously successfull Mass Compile I still see LabVIEW Version 8 (in contrast to Windows where I get 8.0.1).
Is it possible that the file bin/INSTALL.norpm is missing in the tar archive or that something else is broken? I am running Debian GNU/Linux Sarge.
    Thanks in advance,
    Armin Herzer

    hello armin herzer,
did you download the LabVIEW 8.0.1 update and the "lv801-linux-norpm.tar.gz"?
if not, you can get it here lv801-linux-norpm.tar.gz.

  • LaCie LightScribe Labeler for Linux released Oct 17th.

Some of us are missing LightScribe capabilities on Arch Linux.
Now "4L" comes as an RPM free (as in beer) & ready for Linux
The news is there : http://www.k3b.org/ (LaCie is a k3b support)
    Press release : http://www.lacie.com/company/news/news.htm?id=10293
    Download page : http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10803
I've never used rpm under Arch and will seek knowledge on rpm2cpio AUR package.
Anybody's willing to get on this ?

Use rpmextract to extract the files from the rpm. Then, it's just a question of installing the files in the correct place (in $startdir/pkg), i.e. binaries in /usr/bin, libraries in /usr/lib, etc.

  • Schedule for Java ME SDK 3.0 for Linux?

    Hi,
thank you for Java ME, we are using it since many years with on Linux development platform.
Currently we plan to use the Sensor API, which is missing in WTK2.5.2 for Linux.
What are the current plans for Linux?
    thanks,
    Marcel

    Another +1
Come on Oracle, get it together. And why are you being so evasive about answering the OP's question? Is there a release schedule for Linux or not? For some reason I suspect not and you're desperately trying to avoid saying so.
If there's no J2ME for linux there's no point me trying to write Java mobile apps any more. I suspect I will not be the only person to switch to writing Android apps instead. Google seem to understand and respect their Linux programmers.
