Context,Physical schema and Logical schema

Hi,
How the context, physical schema, logical schema and agent are interrelated.
Please explain
Thanks
Jack

Hi Jack,
Context:
A context is a set of resources allowing the operation or simulation of one or more data processing applications. Contexts allow the same jobs (Reverse, Data Quality Control, Package, etc) to be executed on different databases and/or schemas.
Its used to run the object(process) in different database.
Physical Schema:
The physical schema is a decomposition of the data server, allowing the Datastores (tables, files, etc) to be classified. Objects stored in data servers with this mode of classification can be accessed by specifying the name of the schema attached to the object name.
Ex
Oracle classifies its tables by "schema" (or User). Each table is linked to a schema, thus SCOTT.EMP represents the table EMP in the schema SCOTT.
Logical schema:
A logical schema is an alias that allows a unique name to be given to all the physical schemas containing the same datastore structures.
->The aim of the logical schema is to ensure the portability of the procedures and models on the different physical schemas. In this way, all developments in ODI Designer are carried out exclusively on logical schemas.

  • Physical Schema and logical schema

    Hi,
When creating the data server in the topology corresponding to the appropriate technology we are creating a physical schema. But then why do we need to create logical schema. Is it created for execution of the interface? And can multiple physical schemas be mapped to same logical schema?

    Hi
Physical schema represents the actual connection to the data source or data target. Logical schema represents the logical name associated to that source or target.
One logical schema can be associated with multiple physical schema along with context, i.e. one logical schema is associated with different physical schema using different context.
It can be understood with following example:
You have 3 environments: Dev, QA, Prod, each having different database servers as DB1, DB2, DB3, respectively. Similarly we have 3 context corresponding to Dev, QA and Prod. You create logical schema with name DB_source
Now you associate physical DB servers to logical schema (DB_source) for each context:
    DEV: DB1
    QA: DB2
    PROD: DB3
Now when u develop ODI interfaces, you use one context DEV which associates DB_source to DB1. While mentioning context for execution, keep it as "Execution". This means, whatever context you choose during execution, corresponding physical DBs will be used.
Thus if you change the execution context, corresponding physical schema will be used during execution.
Let me know if you have further questions !!

  • Physical schema vs logical schema in odi

hi, i am new to odi.I have successfully loaded data metadata to essbase and planning . But still i am not clear why odi uses physical schema when we just uses logical schema while reversing, execution of interfaces etc in designer

    Hi,
Logical schema will always point to a Physical Schema .
The aim of the logical schema is to ensure the portability of the procedures and models on the different physical schemas. In this way, all developments in Designer are carried out exclusively on logical schemas.
A logical schema can have one or more physical implementations on separate physical schemas, but they must be based on data servers of the same technology. A logical schema is always directly linked to a technology.
To be usable, a logical schema must be declared in a context. Declaring a logical schema in a context consists of indicating which physical schema corresponds to the alias - logical schema - for this context.

  • What are advantage and disadvantage for Physical Standy and Logical Standby

    HI,
What are advantage and disadvantage for Physical Standy and Logical Standby configuration?
    Thanks
    Ken

    Logical standby database
The key advantage for logical standby databases is that they're opened read/write, even while they're in
applied mode. That is, they can be used to generate reports and the like. It is indeed a fully functional
database. Also, additional indexes, materialized views and so on can be created.
However (this being a disadvantage) not all datatypes are supported.
Oracle (or more exactly the log apply services) uses the primary database's redo log, transforms them into
SQL statements and replays them on the logical standby database.
    Physical standby database
A physical standby database is a byte for byte exact copy of the primary database. This also means that
rowids stay the same in a physical standby database environment.
Oracle (or more exactly the log apply services) uses the primary database's redo log to recover the
    physical database.
A physical standby database might be opened read only; however, the received logs are in this case not
applied. When the logs are applied, the database is not accessible (it is then in a managed recovery state).

  • Physical directory and logical directory

What is the difference between physical directory and logical directory in BPEL

    Hi,
Physical : We need to Specify the complete directory.
    Example: <Drive name>:\Temp\data
Logical: We need to specify a logical name for directory. It is defined as a property in the 'bpel.xml' file.
Example: if you specify 'READ' as the logical name, the following property is added to the bpel.xml file: <property name="READ"></property>
After this, u must have define the directory path.
    For example, <Drive name>:\Temp\data for the file adapter: <property name="MyDirectory"><Drive name>:\Temp\data </property>

  • Find physical reads and logical reads ?

    Hi,
how will find out physical reads and logical reads ?

Well I would suggest you read the report from statspack/awr.They as suggested by Amit, have a load profile section. That would be helpful for you in finding the details of this thing. Also which version you are? If you are in 10g than the EM is able to give you a compare period report where you can compare 2 different days's periods information and can check which particular part has changed.
In addition to this , look for the information of the metrics in the documentation. As the physical read and logical reads are statistics which are happening in the system. So from 10g onwards, oracle is keeping a track in the deflectionin the statistics. So if you see that than it willbe easy for you to manage and monitor it.
I shall try to findthe name of some views related to it and post.

  • Difference between physical join and logical join

    Hi Gurus,
Can anyone tell me what is the difference between physical join and logical join
    Thanks,
    Chandra

    Hi,
A physical join is at the physical layer and defines the join between two physical tables. Logical joins live at the BMM (logical) layer and define a join between two logical tables.
The important differentiation is that at the BMM layer you do not tell the OBIEE server how to do the join, you just tell it that there is a relationship between these two logical entities. When the server comes to this logical join it will use the information in the physical joins and decides how the two logical tables are joined together.
In BMM you use complex joins to establish which logical tables are joined which another, the OBI EE server will go to the physical level to search the physical join to make the query. You can also use physical joins in the BMM to override the join in the physical layer but only in very specific conditions.
If you also set complex join in the physical layer OBI EE won't be able to construct the physical query.
    Hope this answers your question.
    Award points if helpful.
    Thanks,
    -Amith.

  • Duplicate data in front scheme and back scheme?

    Assume that a near cache has been defined with a front-scheme and a back-scheme. The front-scheme is a local-scheme and the back-scheme is a distributed-scheme.
Now assume that there is a piece of data for which the current JVM is a master. That is, the data resides in the back cache.
Assume that the JVM accesses that data.
Will this populate the front cache even though the master is in the back cache on the same JVM?
Does Coherence therefore store two copies of the data, one in the front cache, one in the back cache?
Or does Coherence realize that the requested data is in the back cache on the same JVM, and therefore doesn't make another copy and populate the front cache, but instead simply redirects the get call to it's own back cache?
This basically has memory implications and I'm trying to configure a cache that works on a single JVM as well as a cluster. I am trying to get away with having just the one configuration file for coherence irrespective of whether the application is on a single storage enabled node, or a cluster.
I cannot tell from the diagram in the Developer Guide at http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24290_01/coh.371/e22837/cache_intro.htm#BABCJFHE
because I'm not sure whether the front/local cache for JVM1 has not been shown as populated with A because it is the master for A, or because JVM 1 never accessed A.

Yes, it will, if access is via the near cache.
Does Coherence therefore store two copies of the data, one in the front cache, one in the back cache?
Yes, but with usual usage patterns the front-map is size limited, so it will hold the just pk-accessed entry in the front map, but it may evict other entries from the front map, so the front-map may not be a full duplicate of the entire data-set.
Or does Coherence realize that the requested data is in the back cache on the same JVM, and therefore doesn't make another copy and populate the front cache, but instead simply redirects the get call to it's own back cache?
Nope, no such logic is in place. On the other hand, as I mentioned front-map is usually size-limited, and also the storage nodes don't have to access the cache via the front-map, they can go directly to the distributed cache by getting the back-cache from the near cache instance.
This basically has memory implications and I'm trying to configure a cache that works on a single JVM as well as a cluster. I am trying to get away with having just the one configuration file for coherence irrespective of whether the application is on a single storage enabled node, or a cluster.
You should not try to. You should always choose the correct topology and configuration for the actual use case. There is no one-size-optimally-fits-all solution.
    Best regards,
    Robert

  • Physical path and Logical name in File adapter

    Hi All-
I am using a file adapter, in which i need to specify the physical path or logical path.
In dev environment my file adapter's input path is /c01/interface/dev/input, but in my test environment it is /u01/interface/test/input.
So everytime I have to change the path and deploy it in two different environment.
I am using unix environment, is there any way i can use some environmental variable $INPUT_DIR and use it in logical name so that in logical name i can use as $INPUT_DIR/input, where in dev $INPUT_DIR will be /c01/interface/dev and in test environment it is /u01/interface/test.
I have tried this but there is still some probelm, I want to know is the approach I am using is correct? or is there any other solution for it?
    Regards,
    Sreejit

    Hi,
    1. physical name: use a specific directory (e.g. /u01/....
    2. logical name: use a LogicalDirectory like "InputFileDir" and rewrite this inside the bpel.xml

  • How to connect sql developer OE schema and Hr schema,

    Hi ,
I downloaded Oracle 10g express edition and SQL developer downloaded in my computer, I don't know how to connect to OE and HR schema, by default the SQL developer and Oracle 10g has only sytem and sys database. And as well I wanted to migrate datas from third party datas , could anyone please , pllease guide me. I am new to this field and just started to learn. what is listener and how to activate Listener and Repositary
    Please guide me.
    Thanks in advance
    Chan

The HR schema installs fine in XE, but the OE schema doesn't quite. I've done it, but there will be errors. The reason is that the OE schema uses some features of XML DB that are not supported in XE. If you want to use the OE schema in XE and you don't mind if it isn't a complete OE schema, then you can get the installation scripts from an Oracle SE or EE installation.
You can also get it from the companion disk for Oracle SE or EE, but this is a bit challenging, because you can't get it by running OUI unless you first install Oracle SE or EE. You need to run an archive utility like WinZip or 7-Zip and look for the scripts inside a compressed file - I forget which one, but I'll look it up if you like. Oh, and since the OE schema isn't really supposed to be installed on XE, Oracle does not support any of the methods for putting it there.

what is difference between physical stand by and logical standby?

    Hi,
A logical standby database contains the same logical information as the production database, although the physical organization and structure of the data can be different. The SQL apply technology keeps the logical standby database synchronized with the primary database by transforming redo data received from the primary database into SQL statements and then executing the SQL statements on the standby database. This makes it possible for the logical standby database to be open read-write and accessed for queries and reporting purposes at the same time the SQL is being applied to it.

Yes in both the cases you required the schemas.
when you import the master repository, Physical & logical schema are imported as well with this(Topology informations are stored in Master repository) and logical schema is very imported to run the scenarios
