Continual transfer problems

Howdy - I've recently purchased an IPOD 20GB Colour and becoming very frustrated with continual crashes while transferring. I've tried both iTunes and Winamp with no success.
I'm transfer about 10GB of music when I get a crash on the transfer and the IPOD won't reconnect and I have to go thru the software updater restore routine and start all over again.
Am I being a dill or is the something wrong with the IPOD? Appreciate any assistance

Try setting your Ipod to automatic update. It seems that on the manual setting the cache gets overloaded. When set on automatic, it will transfer a few files, and stop and clear the cache before continuing, thereby avoiding crashes with the memory cache getting overloaded. I transferred 18GB without a problem. There might be a maximum number of files that one can transfer at one time in manual setting to avoid this problem. GL.

  • File transfer problem

I have a 2009 intel iMAC running 10.6.8.  Several months ago it developed a file transfer problem.  When transferring files to an external server via ethernet cable, most of the time it will only let me transfer one file at a time whether is a small word document or a large video file that is several gigabytes.   Even with transferring just one file, the elapsed time bar will not indicate the file has completely transferred.  It stays open and appears as if it is still trying to transfer even though the file size transferred is equal to the size of the file.  Plus the only way I can close the the transfer bar is to relaunch finder.  Then when I go to the folder it was transferring it to, the entire file will be there.
    Suggestions?

Have you tried restarting the external drive and the computer?

  • New to MacBook - slow LAN file transfer problem

My new MacBook is painfully slow when wifi-ing to my house LAN.
I turned in my old G4 iBook for a MacBook (2GHz C2D, 2GB, 10.4.9, all updates). I have a LAN that consists of a wired 1G Ethernet backbone (a Mini and a Powermac G5 are wired in) and a Snow AEB that provides 802.11g wifi access to the LAN. The wired LAN connects to a D-Link GB Ethernet switch so the wired systems can exchange files fast. The switch connects to a D-Link EBR2310 router that connects to a cable modem to ComCast. The router has the latest firmware (1.05, it's an 'A' version router).
The Mini, G5, and MB are static IPs on the LAN. The D-Link router passes out DHCP addresses >100, with addresses <101 reserved for static LAN IPs. I use static IPs for network reliability when recovering from power outages and other unforeseen glitches. The LAN has worked very well in this configuration, with fast file transfers among machines and good stability.
With my old 802.11g G4 iBook, I was able to watch DVDs that are stored on an external FW drive connected to the Mini. No stalls, no pauses, no dropouts - MenuMeters showed an average throughput of about 700KBytes/sec on the iBook when viewing a DVD. I used both VLC and DVD Player with good results.
With my new MacBook, I can't view my DVD files. 802.11g network transfer rates to the MB (indicated by MenuMeters and by Activity Monitor) vary rapidly from a high of about 1.1 MBytes/sec to 20 KBytes/sec. Movies stall, skip, etc.
Simple file copies from one system to another are also much slower with the MacBook - an average of ~100KBytes/sec vs. ~ 1.5 MBytes/sec with my old iBook. In short, the MacBook is dog-slow in file transfers from the other machines compared with my old iBook when using the wifi connection, with no change to the network infrastructure in going from the old laptop to the new. I would like to fix this.
My AEB is set up in bridge mode (simple access point) with WPA2 security. All three Macs are completely current with latest updates, as is the Snow AEB. The MB has 4 bars of signal strength. Slow file transfer problem does not change when moving the MB to or from the AEB.
Curiously, when I download a large file (like the Intel 10.4.9 combo update), the MB shows a steady ~800KBytes/sec download speed, with none of the speed variation it shows with file transfers from either the Mini or the G5. File transfers to/from the MB to either of the other Macs are very slow.
Both the Mini and the G5 have Airport cards: when I switch them from wired Ethernet LAN to wifi LAN, they transfer files between each other at ~ 2MBytes/sec - about what you'd expect from an 802.11g protocol. So the slow file transfer doesn't seem to be due to the AEB, it seems to be specific to the MacBook. When I connect the MB using its hardware Ethernet port, files transfer just as fast as the other systems.
I have tried these measures, without effect on the problem:
    - power off/restart of every component in the system;
    - changing the AEB to an open network mode;
    - changing the MB from static IP to DHCP;
    - toggling IPv6 on/off;
    - running no applications other than Finder on all systems;
Activity Monitor on the MB doesn't show anything sucking up CPU cycles during file transfers. I have plenty of RAM. The only thing I've changed in the network is the swap of the iBook for the MacBook.
Can anyone suggest what else I can try to make acquisition of this nice shiny MacBook a step forward, rather than a step back? Thank you!

    Hi,
Did you want to use the Live Migrations for that?
We recommend that you configure separate dedicated networks with gigabit or faster speed for live migration traffic and cluster communication, and these networks should be separate from the network used by the management operating system, and from the network
    used by the virtual machines.

  • An unknown error occurred. You may be able to continue without problems

iMovie 6 continues to crash for me. I am receiving this error:
An unknown error occurred. You may be able to continue without problems. I have restarted, deleted prefs, Repaired permissions. I am running latest Leopard OS (10.5.3).
    Any one experiencing the same?

So, every time you add a cross dissolve transition between photos in an iMovie project, the project crashes. What format are your photos in? jpg seems to be the most trouble free. RAW , Pict, and bmp, sometimes more problematic. Scanned photos?
If this is the only transition where this happens, you might try using the Overlap transition. But obviously this would be just a stop gap measure and not a satisfactory solution.
Since you have been updating your operating system, I would do another permissions repair using the Utilities app on your Mac. Wouldn't hurt to trash the plist file again, either. Restart your computer, even though you already have tried that. Close all other programs while running iMovie. (Sometimes the Norton anti-virus programs cause some problems, for example.) Also, 13GB of free space could be a little tight. Wouldn't hurt to try clearing some more space. 25GB is what many users of this forum recommend. You already are trying out opening the project in a new account. If none of the above works, I would think that you are left with reinstalling iMovie. I don't know whether the problem is with the new operating system itself. I have not heard of any problems with Mac OX 10.5.4 or 10.5.3, but there may be some bulletin out that I haven't seen.
Because the problem appears in other iMovie projects, but not in other programs, that would indicate that the problem is confined to iMovie rather than any generalized disk problem. (Still, it wouldn't hurt to run First Aid from the Disk Utility app on your Mac.)
Good luck with this. Perhaps some others may have suggestions as well.

IMOVIE/IPHOTO TRANSFER PROBLEM QUESTION... HELP HELP HELP!!!
much like the email above, i am having trouble importing movies --all taken with my same nikon camera and uploaded to iphoto-- from iphoto08 to imovie08. i did a software update today and half the movies i wanted from iphoto, somehow, ended up on imovie. not the half i need to work with, by the way. just came back from christmas with the family. the first time my dad has seen my son. the first time my wife has seen my dad. lots of pictures. my dad wants copies. i got great ideas about making him a DVD... in imovie, i choose, "import movies", follow the steps, create a new event AND... no movie clips show up in my new event... BUT, when i click "mac HD" on my desktop and go the "imovie events", i see the movies is just supposedly imported to imovie as files and can watch them. doesn't help me much when trying to create a movie to send to my dad. no video is played in imovie. HELP HELP HELP!!! i went so far as to trash my 15 movies from iphoto because i thought perhaps the computer was seeing them as photos and not movies. right now my vacation movies are on my desktop. how can i get them to show up in imovie and start my project? HELP HELP HELP!!!

I think you have set your iPod to an option which everytime you connect it to itunes, it will delete all songs on it and replace it with songs currently in your library. What you need to do is click on the ipod on the sidebar, and on the bottem of the new page click the tick box that says "Manually manage music and video". That way you can delete old songs from your computer and they will stay on your ipod everytime you connect it. Hope that helps ^_^

  • 575 LRE and data transfer problems

575 LRE and data transfer problems
    Hello,
I have a connection from my provider using the Cisco 575 LRE, configured for 10 Mbit/s. I don't know the make and model of the switch but I assume it is likely a Cisco device also.
I'm experiencing problems with the LRE connection whenever big files are being transfered simultaneously in both down- and upstream directions to/from a PC. The data transfer may slow down to a stall and all WAN connectivity may become momentarily blocked. Transfer speeds and reliability always seem good as long as big files don't get transferred in both directions at the same time.
What could cause this problem? My service provider says that they see no problems in their end and they are unable to help me. I don't know how extensively they have looked into any possibility of problems though.
I've tried different 100Mbit network cards, replacing ethernet and phone cabling and changing duplex settings and MTU, but nothing has completely solved the problem so far. Forcing network cards to full-duplex does prevent the worst slowdown and hanging described above, but limits upload speed to around half of the maximum available.
Not sure if this is meaningful here, but my service provider claims they have the switch my CPE is connected to configured for full-duplex, but when I have a PC network card set to autonegotiation, it will always result in a 100baseTX half-duplex link with the 575 - this is the case where I get maximum speed in either one direction but also the mentioned problems with bi-directional transfer.
I don't know what more I can do to the PCs here to solve this problem and I don't have access to configuring the CPE device, because I don't own the switch it is connected to. I can only think of trying to ask my ISP to read this thread if someone has a possible solution that requires actions on their behalf.
Any help would be much appreciated.

The problem, as you describe it, is most likely cabling ...it could be the cable between your PC(s) and the 575 (most likely), or between the 575 and the switch.
What you are seeing are the effects of crosstalk (signal from one pair interfereing with the other pair), that's why you see it in full-duplex mode and not (so much) in half-duplex (with half-duplex, only one side talks at a time).
The only part you would be likely be able to change would be the connections on your side of the 575 ... so, try another cable; preferably a store-bought cable and in good shape (twisted, crushed, kinked, stretched, and poorly constructed cables are a Very Bad Thing).
LRE was designed to handle voice-grade cabling, but if you're at near the extreme length, you may see some degradation.
    Good Luck
    Scott

  • Mac Pro to MacBook Pro -  File transfer problem

I just bought a new Mac Pro. It is connected to my Airport Extreme via ethernet. The Airport Extreme is connected to my cable modem vis ethernet.
The Mac Pro and the MacBook Pro appear in the others Shared part of the side bar. I have checked the permissions of the files (command I) that I am trying to transfer and in every case there are the usual names- admin, my name, and everyone - with Read & Write privileges. However, there is another one called (unknown) with read only. I can not change the privilege nor delete the name from the list.
    1. I have repaired permissions on both machines
    2. In "Get Info" I changed permissions and added "Administrators" and made it "Read & Write" to the files I am trying to share.
    *The Problem is:*
I can transfer from the MacBook Pro to the Mac Pro but when I try to transfer from the Mac Pro to the MacBook Pro , I get the Alert:
"You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named " Blah Blah"
When I click on "Continue", I get this message:
"The item "Blah Blah" contains one or more items you do not have permission to read. Do you want to copy the items you are allowed to read?"
When I click continue I get:
" The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items".
From the Mac Pro I have no problem moving files from one folder to another on the MacBook Pro.
Transferring worked perfectly when I had my old PPC G5 (where the Mac Pro is in the loop).
Can someone please help? Anyone have an idea or two?

Have run into this problem repeatedly in the past two weeks.  I first discovered I could tether my MacBook Pro to my Droid X and access the internet for free, so I was elated.  After a couple of days I could no longer connect the phone to the Mac via Bluetooth as you describe.  Then it magically came back a week later, and after two days I lost it again.  I spent about 3 hours troubleshooting and solved it.  I hope this works for you.
Open Network Preferences on the computer
    HIghlight Bluetooth PAN
    Select the ADVANCED tab
    Click on "Renew DHCP Lease"
    That did it for me.
    Good luck,

  • ITunes and iPhone purchase transfer problem

I recently suffered a hard drive crash and am currently restoring everything to a new hard drive. Unfortunately my applications I've downloaded from either the iTunes store or on my iPhone are not in my iTunes to transfer back to the phone. They are on my iPhone however. I've right clicked on the iPhone and selected transfer purchases and it transfers a handful of them before giving me an error saying that some of the purchases couldn't be transfered because this computer is not authorized to play. I've already verified that my iTunes/computer is authorized and it continues to give me the problem.
I tried a separate solution that I read on the forums here which said, directly from Apple, that if I try to purchase an app that I've already purchased, it would just download it again. I went and tried that with Air Sharing v1.1.1 that I had originally purchased months back. My credit card was charged $4.99 for the transaction.
I only have one Apple ID that I have been using since I first got iTunes years ago and it's the same Apple ID that I'm entering into iTunes and in my iPhone. I'm at a loss as to how to transfer my applications from my iPhone back to iTunes.
    Any suggestions?

Ok click on your device in itunes at the top right. Select Music and you will see Playlists, Artists and if you scroll down the page Genres and Albums. Select which ones you want for your phone and click the sync button bottom right.

  • TS5458 Continuity: Transfer a call from Mac back to iPhone?

    Hardware/Software:
    iPhone 6 running iOS8.1.2.
    2013 MBP Retina running OS X 10.10.1
    Scenario:
Continuity works and correctly forwards an incoming call on the iPhone to the Mac.
Call is answered on the Mac and conversation starts.
Discussion requires me to withdraw with the iPhone to somewhere private.
How do I transfer the call back to the iPhone?
I've tried taking my headphones out of the Mac and plugging into the iPhone and pressing the green bar at the top of the iPhone screen that says "Touch to return to call".  This hasn't worked.  Nothing else comes to mind.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Having looked at your spreadsheet I see you're failing H323 transfers back to your ISDN system, but only under certain circumstances. Quite why, I'm not sure, possibly because you haven't codec defined on your H323 dial peers. or it could be something else
I think you may be able to work around the problem by adding
" supplementary-service h450.12 " under voice service voip on your CME router as a quick fix.

  • File transfer problem: error -37

I'd like to copy the content of my old mac's (PPC G4 tower running OS 9.2.2) HD (which holds some 85GB of data in about 73,000 files) to a partition on my mini's HD (early 2009 model, running OS X 10.5.6). The machines are connected via ethernet (crossed cable, no 'real' network) and tcp/ip file sharing. Data transfer is done from the G4's side (the 145GB target partition on the mini is configured with read/write privileges for "everyone"). After about 95% completion (about 4GB/2,500 files remaining) of the data transfer, an error message appears ("Cannot copy file xyz because error -37 has occured") and the transfer is aborted even if I click "Continue" on the message box.
According to Apple's documentation, (MacOS 9) error -37 means the file name is longer than 31 characters, which I've made sure is not the case. Funnily, after the offending file has been deleted from the source HD and the transfer restarted, at about the same point (again about 4GB/2,500 remaining to be transferred), the error message pops up again, this time with a different file (or directory) name as the culprit.
This happens no matter whether the target partition is formatted as HFS+ oder HFS+ journaled. The source partition is formatted as HFS+. Also, the same problem also occurs when the transfer is started on the mini instead of the G4.
What am I doing wrong? Any help is greatly appreciated!

You may want to repair the hard drives on both machines, just in case the problem is something other than what is actually being reported. Also, what I have done when having odd copy problems with such large batches of files is to copy them in smaller batches. When you run into a problem, break up whatever batch you were copying into smaller batches. Keep going until you've narrowed it down to the specific files that are giving you trouble.
Alternately, you could find some kind of file copy utility to do the job for you. I don't have any recommendations, as I have never used something like that. Look for something that will log errors without halting with a cryptic error.
