Continued publishing errors

I have still been unable to publish my iwebsite. I followed some advice by emptying the sites folder under I web and now nothing I have done will publish. I have about 10 pages and most of them had published. Now I have nothing. Any suggestions. Has anyone contacted Apple. How do you contact Apple?? This is not my first problem with Appple or .mac but it is the biggest so far. As another person wrote if I wanted this much frustration I would have stuck with Windows.

Cameron.. one more possible fix. If you're getting the "idisk quota error" I found this fix elsewhere on the discussion forum...
hope this helps...

“iDisk Quota Error” fix
A. Quit iWeb, if it is open. Select Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu.
Then type (or copy and paste) ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb into
the field and click Go. You should now see a file named, Domain. This is a Mac OSX package file. Note: A package is a relatively common type of document in Mac OSX; it is essentially a sealed folder. It contains individual items, but cannot be opened in the same manner as a folder.
B. To open the package, hold the Control Key and click on the Domain package file. Note: If you have a two-button mouse, this step can be accomplished by right-clicking the Domain package file.
C. Select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu that appears.
D. A new window will appear containing a folder named Contents.
E. Open the Contents folder. Here you will see one, and possibly two files named assets.<membername>.groups.<groupname>.plist or assets.<membername>.plist, where <membername> and <groupname> correspond to your .Mac member name and .Mac Group name. Note: Your .Mac member name is the first part of your .Mac email address, before "@mac.com."
NOTE FROM ME... I didn’t find these files in the Contents folder, I found
them when I opened the Domain File itself. Whatever.. when you find one,
or maybe both of these files, delete them. (some people have both, some
have one)
F. If you have either or both of these files, move them to the trash. Then close
the Contents window.
G. Relaunch iWeb and try publishing again.

  • Publish Error after copying domain file from one mac to another

    Hello there,
so here is the problem: I have had iweb installed on a MBP, and a website up and running. Now that I just bought an iMac I wanted to transfer all the iWeb over to the iMac and make it the main machine. I was doing all the transfer work manually rather than using the migration assistant or time machine.
I have copied the domain file in the iWeb directory over to the iMac. iWeb starts and displays all the pages and sites normally, but when I try to publish I get the " Publish Error. An unknown error occurred" message.
On the MBP everything was/is working normally.
I have tried to copy the same file again, no change. I have deleted the preference file, no change.
I have tried publishing to a local folder, and get the same error message.
Does anybody have an idea how to get this fixed? I browsed through the discussions here but couldn't find anything regarding this specific issue.
    cheers
    grani

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    3 - reboot.
4 - launch iWeb and try to publish.
    If that doesn't help continue:
5 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
6 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
7 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
8 - move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
9 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • Iweb - Publish error - can't create the file "..."

    Hey guys,
I've seen this issue in a couple of discussions but nothing helps. When I try to publish my site I'm getting the following error note:
"Publish error. Can't create the file "...png". The disk may be damaged or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
Same result whether I publish to an ftp or to a local folder.
My disk is far from full and the site is merely a few megas heavy.
The content is just text and a few photos.
I have OS version 10.6.8 and Iweb 3.0.4.
    No passwords involved.
I've tried all the tricks in the book:
Duplicating the page that won't publish.
Re-creating the page that won't publish.
    Deleting com.apple.iweb.plist from home/library/preferences
Moving my site domain to another location, creating a new site and then putting the old one back
    Deleting cache from libray/caches/com.apple.iweb
    I re-installed Ilife
    Reboots
    Banging head repeatedly again wall
Any idea what could be causing this and how to fix it?
    Pleymo

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.

  • Sudden publishing error on iWeb 06

I have updated my site since MobileMe kicked in, no problem. Now I'm getting this Publishing Error since I upgraded to 10.4.11:
"Can’t create the file “shapeimage3_link0.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
    I'm lost here...

Deborah ~ Your Public Profile settings in this thread imply you have downgraded from Mac OS X (10.4.11) to Mac OS X (10.4.7). On a Mac, MobileMe requires the latest versions of Mac OS X 10.5 or Mac OS X 10.4.11 (use Software Update to update to the latest versions). See this _.Mac to MobileMe transition FAQ_. And if you're not on the latest version of iWeb 1.x, Software Update should offer you its latest update also.
After updating to 10.4.11 (again!) and the latest iWeb 1.x, you may still see references to .Mac — particularly in System Preferences. According to the FAQ above, this is normal for Mac OS X 10.4.11. You can continue to use .Mac preferences.
    Deborah Zari wrote:
Will it automatically publish to MobileMe since .Mac is now gone?
Yes — because .Mac doesn't exist to publish to. (Although MobileMe could well be on the same physical servers as .Mac was on.)
    Deborah Zari wrote:
At some point I need to upgrade to '08, but I'll need to find complete, clear instructions on how to go about it.
Once you've installed iWeb '08 and opened it, you'll be invited to make your existing site (domain file) compatible with it. From there on, the short conversion process is automatic. You may find some differences in how your site looks in iWeb '08 (see here and here). If so, if you've made a backup copy of iWeb's key domain file and iWeb '06, you can continue to use them until you have resolved the issues with iWeb '08. And you'll want to preserve website comments when upgrading from iWeb 1.x to 2.0 — see here.

See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. And besides the backup suggestions there, the free SuperDuper! can also be used to regularly create a bootable clone of your entire internal HD on an external drive:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper
...then if your internal HD fails, you re-boot with the Option key held down. Your Mac will start into Startup Manager, where you can use the arrow keys to select a Mac OS X volume to start from, i.e. your bootable clone from SuperDuper!. Besides the advantage of not losing any valuable data, you can continue working and use Disk Utility app in Applications > Utilities to diagnose the problem.
And, as mentioned before, this free SMARTReporter may give you an early warning of impending hard drive failure:

Suddenly, when publishing my site to a folder, I'm getting this Publish Error message:

Tried the restarting iWeb solution, but have not yet tried restarting computer. If restarting is the only solution, that's going to be mighty inconvenient. Anyone have any other ideas or know why this is happening?
This never happened before. Always able to publish just fine.

  • "Missing File" and Publishing errors

Okay...I'm having two problems and they are becoming INCREDIBLY frustrating. The first one occurs when opening iWeb (1.1.2). I receive an error that reads as follows:
"The following errors occurred while trying to open this document:
    Type: Missing File
    Description: unnamed"
It gives me the option to continue, which I do and all seems to work well.
That is until recently. Beginning this October 19th, for no apparent reason, iWeb decided to give me a new error whenever I try to publish: "Publish Error: An unknown error occurred"...nice, "unknown", what do I do with that??
I am a teacher, and I depend on this website to maintain contact with my students and parents. This is so aggravating. I need to publish my sites!
    Can anyone out there help??

  • "Publish Error: Publish failed due to network error. Check your internet co

I am using the very latest version of iWeb. I have had it for a week.
First let me tell you the message that I got and then what I was doing prior to getting the message:
It said: "Publish Error. Publish failed due to a network error. Check your internet connections and try again."
I did check my internet connections and I called mt cable modem ISP. He put me through some tests and ascertained that the problem was not with the cable connection. I can connect to the web (of course) and I can send and receive email. The fellow at the ISP (Road Runner) told me that the uploading goes just fine but that the confirmation end of it is bad.
I have made 9 pages for my website. I clicked the button to publish the 10th page and got the message at the top of this post.
Then I called Apple Care and took advantage of the 90-day help warranty. The gal there had me try to publish to my private folder. That worked! I was able to publish to the folder and that message at the top of this post did not appear. It said that the page was published and did I want to visit it.
I ended up deleting the page about my friend Lerma, since everything was going fine until I did that page. AS I recall, there was a mixup with the pages and I thought I had fixed it.
Then I worked a little more on my husband's Memorial Site and tried to publish and got the same bad message as above, meaning that it wasn't just the page about Lerma but any page I might be doing since doing her page.
NOW THIS IS THE ODD PART:
I went to the website on Safari browser with the intention of checking out the other earlier pages, only to discover (happily) that my husband's memorial page (the beginning of it) WAS THERE even though I got that message saying that there had been a network error. Lerma's page, however, was NOT there.
I am between happy knowing that a page can show up on the website even though I get a message saying that it did not, but anxious knowing that if I am getting Publish Error messages, something is screwy with the program.
I will continue to try to publish to the Internet, but meanwhile I welcome any observations and happy accounts of how they got the same message but everything ended up fine after a while.
Meanwhile I am going to be working on my pages even though right now I am getting those messages saying that they could not publish due to network error.
    I need a break.
    — Lorna in Southern California

    Hi Lorna!
Sorry to hear that you're getting the dreaded
"Publish Error" message from iWeb. Lots of people
have reported getting this type of error...and I
don't think it ever really has much to do with the
network...at least nothing that can be fixed. The
fact that you have been publishing just fine up until
now is a good thing. Some people have NEVER been
able to publish to the web. Hopefully this problem
will clear itself up. Maybe it's just sunspots or
something. Probably someone thinks you need a break,
    too.
Is this the kind of thing that would warrant me going back to the Apple Store to get an exchange???

  • Publishing Errors in IWeb 1.1.1

I recently installed iWeb for the first time. I published my first site with little or no problems, a few days later I decided to add pages. Everytime I tried to publish to .mac I got an Unknown Publishing error. I have trawled the forums and this problem seemed to be an issue for 1.1 with the fix to update to 1.1.1. As I am already on 1.1.1 I am unsure what else I can do. I even deleted the saved site on my Powerbook and tried to publish a single blank page (to discount fonts, images etc.) that too gave me the same error. I have logged a support call with Apple but as yet have not received a response...........any suggestions?

Well, there's not really an answer to your problem. So many people here have described some kind of error or another it's hard to narrow things down to one cause. But there are a couple of things that you can try. See if any of these steps helps you out...
    1. Delete the iWeb preferences file called "com.apple.iWeb.plist" inside the .../Users/Library/Preferences/... folder.
    2. Delete the iLife Media Browser preferences file called "com.apple.iLifeMediaBrowser.plist" inside the .../Library/Preferences/... folder.
    3. Delete the iWeb application. Reinstall from the original iLife'06 DVD or your recovery disks. Update directly to iWeb 1.1.1 using Software Update.
    4. Repair your disk permissions using Disk Utility
    5. Restart your computer and try to publish before launching any other applications.
    6. Try a different internet connection.
Definitely backup your Domain file before doing anything drastic. This one file contains all the info iWeb needs to know about your websites so that you can continue to edit them in iWeb. So don't lose this file!
If you have found any of this information to be useful to you, please take the time to provide me with feedback by marking my reply as "solved" or "helpful" using those little buttons that you see in the title bar of this reply. I'd really appreciate it!

  • Publishing error - unable to publish iWeb 08 site

After re-making my 30 page site using iWeb 08 due to it destroying my iWeb 07 Domain file - I have tried repeatedly to publish the new site without success. Usually I wait 1.5 hrs while the progress bar goes slowly around, then I invariably get a message saying there ways an "error connecting to the server or network error". It takes 1.5 hrs to tell me this?
However I clearly am connected to the .Mac server because I get the message earlier on stating that "publishing will continue in the background". Somehow the .Mac server doesn't accept the Domain file. I have published the Domain to a folder on my desktop and the site works fine on the browser when I launch it using the index html file.
I have sent several iWeb feedback messages concerning this problem so hopefully the boffins will fix it. I have no intention of renewing my .Mac subscription if the Domain file can't actually be published.
If anyone out there is experiencing the same problem please let me know.

It's hit or miss with me. My web site is about 30 pages, and about every 4th or 5th time I publish, I get either a "Publish Error. An unknown error occurred." or something about a locked file, try again later. It usually is fixed by choosing to Publish All to .Mac and enduring the 30 minutes or so it takes to process. This last time, however, it got done with the upload (about 100MB) and looked fine. Next time I tried to update one page: bang.
I'm publishing a blog so the situation can only get worse as pages accumulate.
There is clearly something wrong and clearly somebody is grasping at straws trying to fix it. Until the engineers at Apple figure out what the problem is and releases a definitive patch, I think we're out of luck.

  • Need publishing error help - new user.

I am new to the mac world having just purchased a MacBook, signed up with a mac account, and am trying to test load a very simple 2 page web site. I continue to get publishing errors (different file names sometimes appear when I retry to publish). Nothing shows up on my idisk, so nothing is getting through. I have tried to publish about a dozen times over the last couple of days. I note others have had similar errors. Since space is not an issue on my idisk and the site is so small, I'm not sure what to try next. Any ideas? Thanks.<

Dr. B.. this fixed about 90% of the publishing errors for me.

  • I keep getting the following error message while sharing my iMovie to iDVD.  "Unable to prepare project for publishing"  error (-2125).

I keep getting the following error message while sharing my iMovie to iDVD.  "Unable to prepare project for publishing"  error (-2125).  I'm running iMovie 09 v. 8.0.6 on a iMac with OSX v 10.6.8, 2Ghz core duo, 1GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM.  Any ideas why?

That particular error comes up for a number of reasons, sometimes it's the size of the movie you're trying to export. Bengt Wärleby a longtime contributor to the iMovie Discussion Group has advised a number of people on this error code, so I am going to link to his latest advice he's given to anyone trying to export to DVD from iMovie: Bengt's tips for great DVDs.
Specifically, try bypassing Share to iDVD by using Share to Media Browser instead.
In the Share to Media Browser dialog box choose the Large Size.
When(If?) it gets through that process, quit iMovie altogehter then go to iDVD.
Create a new project and click on the Media button near the lower right hand side of the Project Window.
Then click the Movies button in the Browser window just above that.
Under the iMovie star icon you should see the name of the project you shared out from iMovie.
Drag that into the project and burn the DVD.
If it's still to large or you get the same -2125 error code trying to Share using the Medium size instead. But again if you really get stuck consult Bengt Warleby's User tips:

I have been searching the forum and the web for an answer or quick fix and I see none, though i do see that many people are having this same issue. I already have all permission set to read & write on all the appropriate folders. I don't know what else to do.....I was hoping to have this project done for a Christmas present for my wife.

I think I know what was the problem in my case. My project-file wasn´t very large, but I imported all my movies in one single event. After splitting the movies up into different events, I was able to export my project....

    1. SAS cubes are not currently supported - http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10415_01/doc/bi.1013/e10417.pdf. Unless SAS cubes can use the MS drivers?
    2. If you try and pursue it you might check the permissions on the ddll in the error to ensure you have rights over it.
Either way you are not supported with a SAS cube so you are kinda on your own. Sorry I dont use SAS so Im not going to be much help other than stating the obvious :0)
