Continues rebooting after installing system upgrade
Hi
I have a HP voicetab 7. Today (10.02.2015) got a system upgrade. after installing the system upgrade, my tab is switching on but stuckup in the boot screen.
what to do next.
Hey @jagan_0018 ,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand after a failed update to KitKat your Slate 7 Voice Tab will not boot.
Please try the following.
1. Download the update.zip for your device and copy the file to the root directory of an empty micro-SD card (at least 1 GB, FAT 32 format). Do not unzip this file. You can find the update.zip for your device here: HP - Drivers & Downloads.
NOTE: You will need the exact model number to locate the correct package. There are multiple update.zip recovery images available. Ensure you select the correct download for your region. If your tablet does not boot after attempting to update you may need to try both the KitKat and JellyBean images. For information on finding your product or model number click here: Finding Your HP Product Model Number.
2. Fully charge the tablet and then disconnect the power from the device.
3. Power off the device.
If your tablets micro-SD slot is on the side or bottom of your tablet skip to step 5.
4a. Place the tablet on a flat surface, display panel side down, with the release notch towards you.
NOTE: Before positioning the tablet with the display panel facing down, make sure the work surface is clear of any foreign objects. Failure to follow this caution can result in damage to the display panel assembly.
4b. Remove the back cover. Use the release notch to remove the back cover.
4c. Insert the micro-SD memory card into the reader slot.
4d. Reverse the procedure detailed above to install the back cover.
5. Insert the micro-SD card into the micro-SD card reader.
6. Press and hold the volume up button and power button at the same time.
7. When the HP logo appears on the screen, release all the buttons.
8. When the Android system recovery menu appears, use the volume down button to highlight "apply update from external storage".
9. Press the power button to validate "apply update from external storage".
10. Use the volume down button to highlight the software recovery file, update.zip.
11. Press the power button to select the update.zip file and launch the recovery.
NOTE: Wait until the entire recovery process finishes. The device might seem unresponsive at times (multiple reboots and black screens) when it is performing the update.
If this does not resolve the issue please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the following link to get the support number for your region: Phone Assist Worldwide.

Fix for continuous reboot after installing Service Pack 3 in Windows XP
After contacting HP Technical Support and speaking to a supervisor we were able to solve the problem of Windows continuously rebooting after installing SP3. Here are the steps that fixed the problem with my HP Pavilion running on an AMD processor. The steps are actually fairly straight forward and easy....
Issue: The computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3
Computer reboots continuously after installing Windows XP service pack 3 on AMD systems. The problem is that with some configurations, SP3 causes the computer to crash during boot, and Windows XP, by default, is set up to automatically reboot when it crashes. That is why you end up in the endless rebooting scenario.
Cause:
On HP computers, the same Windows installation disc image for Intel processor based PC's is deployed for the AMD processor based computers as well. Because the original installation image for both Intel and AMD is the same, all have the intelppm.sys driver installed and running. That driver provides power management on Intel-based computers. On an AMD-based computer, amdk8.sys provides the same functionality for power management.
Symptoms:
Ordinarily, having intelppm.sys running on an AMD-based computer appears to cause no problems. However, on the first reboot after a Service Pack 3 installation, it causes a big problem. The computer either fails to boot, or crashes with a STOP error code of 0x0000007e.
You may not see the error code because the computer reboots too fast. In order to get the error message, you need to set an option during startup. To do so, open the windows advanced menu by tapping the f8 key on startup. Then select the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" option.
Solution:
If you have an AMD-based computer, however, you do not need the intelppm.sys driver and can disable it. There are three methods in order to do this.
Step 1: Please try to log on the system in safe mode.
1. While using Safe mode open the command prompt.... Start, All Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt
Run the following command in the command prompt just like it's typed: sc config intelppm start= disabled
Step 2:
If the issue persists, please try to log on or boot the system in recovery console (refer to the web document)
2. Using recovery console:
If you booted into the recovery console, from a command prompt, type: disable intelppm
Step 3: Please check in registry.
3. Using windows registry:
1. Run regedit
2. Click on HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3. From the File menu, select "Load hive"
4. Navigate to %systemdriver%\Windows\System32\Config on the dead system and select the file name System
5. Name it something you can remember, such as "horked"
6. Navigate to horked\ControlSet001\Services\IntelPPM
7. Double click the Start value and set it to 4
8. If you did what I did and completely messed things up by running a disk check previously, navigate to ControlSet001\Control\SessionManager. Open the BootExecute value and clear out the autochk entries.
9. Repeat steps 6-8 for the other control sets.
10. Reboot

For future reference: Service pack 3 Installation steps:
Before installing the service pack 3 update, please follow the steps listed above and save yourself much time and effort.
To uninstall service pack 3, I suggest that you uninstall it from add/remove programs.
Step 1:
Uninstall service pack 3 from add/remove programs:
1. Click Start.
2. Select Run.
3. Type appwiz.cpl in the run field.
4. Click OK.
5. Click change or remove programs.
6. Select the program -service pack 3 that you want to uninstall or remove.
7. Click Remove button.
8. It will pop up the message stating that "Are you sure you want to remove the programs".
9. Click Yes. It will help you to remove or uninstall the installed programs from add and remove programs.
Step 2: If the issue persists, I suggest you to perform system restore and then try to install the service pack 3 after performing the steps mentioned above in regards to removing the intelppm.sys Driver.

I hope this helps someone who is having this problem. It sure took me a minute to get it all figured out. :0)Still useful as of 12/30/11. Have ten Lenovo 5042 computers with downgrade licenses to run XP and have a ghosted image from another Lenovo 5042 having and Intel cpu. My target computers all have AMD cpus in them and the image would continuously reboot on
the AMD computers.
Used method 1 and it cleared the problem instantly, many thanks for the post and the time and effort it took to dig up the answer.. -
Received my blackberry curve 9360 back from repair today, and due to the nature of the fault with my phone I was sent another device. Everything started up and was working fine, setup worked great and I upgraded to 7.1 and it was all fine. Then I went onto App World and downloaded the latest version which worked. However when I came to trying to download some apps and upgrades for instance the latest blackberry messenger upgrade, the installation would progress until it was complete and upon the installation bar reaching the end my device would reboot. After the reboot I find that the upgrade hasn't been performed and that it was never installed.. This keeps happening over and over again.. How can i fix this? it's incredibly frustrating as I can't upgrade or install any applications!
Thanks to anyone who can help!Hey ChrisWatkins93,

New imaged machines fail to complete reboot after install
New imaged machines fail to complete reboot after install of 10.4.9 image
Running off both 10.4.9 Server and a 10.3.9 Server machines imaged from the same disk image and different disk images fail to reboot after imaging is complete. All machines go through various stages of reboot some initial most all the way to waiting for finder to boot up on desktop. Nothing is wrong with the items, installed the entire image is installed if you looking at the machines via firewire. All .nbi sets were created under 10.3.9 (to avoid 10.4.9 problems) all disk images with Disk Utility all .nbi with 10.3.9 Network Image utility.
Anyone any clues been driving me nuts for about a week and I have 500 ibooks to image.
Also the reference machines for the images are same ibooks that will be imaged, so its the same platform.
various Mac OS X (10.3.9)All is the same for me except I used a 10.4.9 server only to create the disk image using Disk utility, and all other work ison a 10.3.9 server. Greay or blue screen on reboot otherwise machines look fine.
I am having this same issue....
Order of events as follows...
Build image on source mac (10.4.9)
Create image on server for netinstall from source mac
(10.4.9)
Set Netinstall image on server via netboot (10.4.9)
Install Netinstall image on target mac via netboot on
server (10.4.9)
Installs fine and says successful.....Apon reboot all
i get is the grey screen with the apple and spinning
icon....Sits there and doesn't change....
On further inspection I notice that there are things
that are missing off target mac
very strange....Sounds like a broken System Image

After installing Facebook upgrade, login screen wo...
After my initial mystery problem on accessing Facebook on my new Nokia 6700 Slide (as mentioned elsewhere on this forum), I was eventually able to access it with no problems, had saved my login info, so hitting the Facebook button was all I needed..
However, last night, I was going to do a quick FB check, and hit the button as usual. I found that I was now logged out.
As I started entering my login info, a link popped up, saying that a Facebook upgrade was available.
I thought, I might as well upgrade there and then, to keep my phone applications up to date.
Mistake
Downloading & installation went fine, I got the notification saying that installation was complete.. But when I hit the FB button to enter my login info, the login screen would not stay on the screen at all! As I hit the button, the login screen appears for maybe less than one second, but there seems to be no way of making it stay on screen, so that I could actually enter my info.
I checked whether there was an alternate way of accessing FB, rather than using the button I have on my quick menu bar.. I found that, after installing the upgrade, I now had a FB link in Menu > Applications > Installations (I know it wasn't there before as the only default installation was G.I.JOE, the game, and I'd since added Backgammon and nothing else). I tried logging in that way, but the same thing happens - login screen won't stay open.
I wonder, is this happening to anyone else, and would anyone have an idea on how to fix it? (Is there a way to uninstall the upgrade that messed things up? Is the upgrade at fault, and is there a new upgrade on the way soonish?)O...k.... As with the previous FB-related problem, this one seems to have sorted itself with time as well!
Maybe next time, I'll give it a day before posting yet another topic here -
Continual reboot after win2k sp3 or sp4 install
Works w/ win2k sp2. With sp3 or sp4 installed reboots after logon screen (CtlAltDel) appears. BSOD quickly followed by splash screen of "Out of Range" message. Couldn't read BSOD message. Works fine after un-install sp* from safe mode. Fails when disp adapter set to VGA or SVGA modes. Fails w/ either PCI(STB) or AGP(GeForce2 MX-400). Un-installed display driver - still fails outside of safe mode.
Any help is appreciated! Thanx. -mw13jTry increasing your RAMs Voltage by 0.1v and do a clean format on your C: partition before installation or you could just update through Windows Update where everything is updated through windows 1st before rebooting.

My iPhone 6+ keeps rebooting after installing iOS 8.3
I have a 128Gb iPhone 6+. When I downloaded and installed iOS 8.3 via WIFI, it went through the usual download sequence and then started continually rebooting. After about 20 or so reboots, I got a white screen with a carrier signal on the top left, a location icon and a grayed-out bluetooth icon and the battery level indicator on the top right, and a curious "information" icon (a letter "i" in a circle) at the bottom right of the screen.
I tried tapping on the "i" but got no response. Then the iPhone went into the reboot cycle again. After several reboot cycles, I got the same white screen again. Then the iPhone again started rebooting and hasn't stopped.
My iPhone 6+ has been problematic since I installed iOS 8.1.2. Several random reboots (about 4 cycles, before the iPhone returned to "normal") and some other issues that I didn't document.
I brought the iPhone to the nearest authorized Apple repair center. They said that they could not find any problem and neither could they duplicate the issue I experienced. They recommended that the next time reboots happened that I should make a video of the error. Also, they recommended that I keep all of the apps updated (which I conscientiously do). So I decided to make a log of all the errors since the iPhone was returned to me.
Here are the entries to my log:
iPhone 6+ Errors since March 30, 2015

Blackberry Curve 9360. New device received yesterday after water damage to my old one. I upgraded to the latest OS and AppWorld yesterday and everything has worked absolutely perfect. Except every time I try and install or upgrade an app it reaches the end of the installation bar then reboots itself and when I look after the reboot I find the upgrade or app hasn't been installed. It does this with every app I try and install. I've tried working on just Wi-Fi or Network and it makes no difference. Can anyone help? has anyone had this before? Incredibly frustrating considering I've just got a new one back!!!

X: error while loading shared libraries: libgcc_s.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
any help on this? want to get off of bloated ubuntu

Last edited by ivan (2007-09-25 13:49:57)I have the same issue also. Something told me not to reboot but I did because I wanted to use my rt-kernel.
yes, please help because I too have to use Ubuntu-Studio and SuSE's JAD. Both way too bloated and not as fast as Arch..

I am the Windows admin for a university department and install PCs with Firefox all the time. This problem does not happen with every PC I maintain, only a select few (different model laptops with Windows 8.1 and update 1.) Until today, it only happened with new user accounts (with admin rights) that I setup on the laptops for our staff. Today this happened with The Administrator account while setting up a new laptop. In all cases so far, I install Windows from a saved image that was created using sysprep.
I have tried the many suggestions of resetting Firefox, deleting the users Firefox profile, deleting the users Windows profile, uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox, uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox and the latest Java, but nothing helps. After uninstalling, I run an app to delete temp files and caches and will even manually remove registry keys HKLM\SOFTWARE\Mozilla and HKCU\SOFTWARE\Mozilla. Plus I reboot and make sure the install folder is deleted after uninstall.
Results are the same: after installing Firefox 31, the initial setup window for migrating IE and/or Chrome pops up and after clicking the Finish button, Firefox starts, but does not show the initial new user page, only a blank page. Clicking on the Options button (3 bars) does nothing. Right-clicking in the proper area, the popup menu appears so I can choose to Customize, but that only opens another tab with about:customize in the URL and the page is blank. From the right-click popup menu, I can enable the Menu Bar and get to Options from that.
My latest attempt has helped a little. I uninstalled Firefox 31, cleaned up, deleted user Firefox profile, rebooted and then installed Firefox 30. Inital startup runs, and tells me I'm not up to date, and the Options button works. But I still cannot customize.
I then upgraded to Firefox 31, but then it's back to no startup page, no options button and no customize. I can downgrade to 30 and get all but customize working again.
Only Addon is one for McAfee Scriptscan for Firefox 15.1.0, which just after installing is disabled.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.Ok. I disabled hardware acceleration. The only extension is the McAfee Scriptscan for Firefox 15.1.0, which was already disabled. I then disabled all plugins (Acrobat, Google Update, Intel Identity Protection (2x), Java Deployment Toolkit, Java Platform, MS Office 2013, Quicktime, Shockwave, Silverlight), which were all up to date.
Normal or safe mode still has same result. No startup, no option button and no customize.
Thanks for your help. Got any other suggestions? -

Macbook pro won't reboot after installing lion
After installing Lion on a 2007 MacBook pro, it won't reboot. Just gets to the gray screen with the spinning wheel. Have tried re-installing and disk repair to no avail. Anyone else figured out how to fix?

Lion only runs on Intel based systems which have to be core2duo. with a minimum of 2GB RAM.
If these is given on your system, in most cases it comes from running old PPC-Applications which are not longer supported since Lion.
Try to start your MB in "Safe Mode" by holding option key (alt) imediately after first chime and disable / delete this applications.

Macbook Air constantly rebooting after installing Mavericks... this was my fix
Just in case this helps anyone.
I installed Mavericks on my Mac without an issue. When it restarted, my Mac would constantly reboot after a few minutes. It didn't matter if I logged in or not. I tried the various things that have been suggested (reset NVRAM, CMOS, running a disk check) but nothing help. If I booted into safe mode, I would not have any problems.
The issue ended up being some systems extensions in my /System/Library/Extensions folder. I had installed and deleted Trend Micro Smart Surfing a while ago by using the manual uninstall (move the application to the trash) which leaves the system extensions it had added intact (there was a Trend Micro folder in /System/Library/Extensions).
I reinstalled the software and then used the uninstaller that came with the program and after I rebooted, everything worked fine. I checked the /System/Library/Extensions folder and could see that the Trend Micro folder had been removed by the uninstaller.
I would suggest looking at the /System/Library/Extensions folder and comparing to what is in the applications folder. If you something in the extensions folder but not in the application one, you might be having the same type of issue that I was having.
AlexStartup your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys so you can access the built in utilities to repair the startup disk and restore OS X using OS X Recovery.

Blur fonts after a system upgrade
Hello all
I've done a pacman -syu, and it did an upgrade to the kernel (2.6.23-ARCH) and i'm not sure if it upgraded x-server too.
The question is, now my fonts (my X-server) are all blury, like without anti-alias, it's very hard to see the letters, and the resolution is all wrong. I've checked the fonts dirs, and configuration, everything is ok, i haven't done anything but the upgrade, so i don't know what could be wrong. Anyone had the same problem or knows the fix for this?
I'm putting here 2 screenshots (1 of my desktop, the other of this post) i hope you can see my problem

Automatic double reboot after installing update
Hello everyone,
After installing update 10.5.6, my computer automatically restarted twice (the double "bong" sound). I was wondering if this is an unusual occurrence or part of the normal system update sequence.
Have not had this occur previously and was wondering if anyone else had this effect when installing 10.5.6
Thanks.
joeMy iMac and my wife's MacBook both did the double reboot. It scared me the first time my iMac did the double reboot on 10.5.5 but this time I expected it. On my wife's MacBook it also had a firmware update and for the first time since we bought her computer I heard the fan going at a really high speed for a couple seconds and then stop. The fan has never since come on that fast so I guess it was the computer was just testing the fan.
