Continuing music when jumping to next slide
This should be a silly question.
I want to add some music to my slides. However, when I go to the next page, I want the same music to continue to play. How could I do this? Thanks.
Sorry I find a partial version to my question: add music to document panel in the inspector. But this will play music for all slides. I just wish to play music for the first 5 slides, no music from 6 to 8, and starting to play another music staring from the 9th slide.
Anybody could help me figure out? Thanks a lot.

Button Widget - Need it to jump to next slide, not simply continue
I'm new to Cp 5.5. I was an expert in Cp4 and prior versions, but due to work changes I've not worked with Captivate in a few years and am just getting back into it. Definitely things have changed!
I setup a master slide and at the top-right I placed one of the static SWF button widgets that comes with Captivate. In the options for it I set it to go to the next slide when clicked, however upon preview it is continuing on the same slide and not jumping to the next one. I tried it with a few of the swf buttons and they all work the same. Am I doing something wrong? Or is the code broken on these buttons?
If the latter, then I guess my option, if I really want to keep the look of the button (I do), then is to just use it as an image button?Hello and welcome back,
The static button coming with Captivate 5.5 has no pausing point but it should work OK, does for me anywat. How did you test? Can you insert a text caption with the system variable rdinfoCurrentFrame to see if there is indeed no jump to next slide?

I do not understand your last question? You want only the image, not the functionalities of that button? You should be aware that only static objects can be inserted on a master slide, not interactive objects.

Hi there
Working with captivate 4 and advanced actions, which is a great new feature, I encounter the following problem:
I have a sign-in slide, where the user has to insert his name and several other data. For user-friendly handling, I have the text entry boxes appearing one after another, so when the user confirms his entry, the next text entry box appears and has the focus.
The button for jumping to the next slide works with an advanced action:
Only if the user has filled out all the text entry boxes, the action "jump to the next slide" is performed.
If not, an error message is shown.
It works well so far.
Now, I want the project to pause there, and not to jump back to the beginning of the slide (as suggested in another Thread in this forum), because then the text entry boxes dissappear again.
I tried to set the movie control variable rdcmndPause to 1 in order to make the movie pause, but nothing happens.
I tried it with an external playback control bar and without, it didn't work in either case.
I found the hint:
To control the project through the skin file, add the prefix cpSkinLoader_mc to the variables. This might be the solution.(?)
But how can I change the name of a MovieControl Variable?
If anyone knows, how this is supposed to work or has another suggestion to solve the problem, please let me now.

I believe I can help you, but from a completely different angle than anything you've tried yet. I try to find simple solutions to complex problems. No advanced actions will be needed, just a little creative timing. First, I need to be sure I correctly understand what it is you're hoping to accomplish.
If I understand you correctly, you've got a single welcome slide. On this slide you've got several TEB's (text entry boxes), set up with variables to make your project more personal or gather some required information. These TEB's have no right or wrong answers, they simply require an entry: such as an address which begins with a numeric key. The TEB's are set to appear one after another, as one is completed the next one appears. Once all have been completed a next button, set to "jump to next slide" takes them to the next slide and on through your course. You want the project to pause until the user clicks this button, and only proceed if all TEB's have been entered. If not, you wish an error message to appear.
If the above description is correct, I'd do the following:
Leave your TEB's to show up one at a time as the previous is submitted, as you've described. (each one pauses the slide till info is submitted, then "continues" the slide and the next TEB displays)
Set each TEB to "display for rest of slide".
For the next button: In the properties dialog box, options tab, name the button "Next_button" and uncheck the visibility box.
Open the properties for the final TEB that students will fill in and set the on success property to "show" then choose the Next_button by clicking the drop down arrow beside the "show" field. This will hide the Next button until all TEB's have been filled in.
There is no error message, because there is no possibility of error. Why tell a student they've messed up, just eliminate that possibility! All TEB's only display after the previous is entered, and the Next button is hidden until the last TEB is entered.
I've tested this in a simple 3 slide project and it all worked fine, including some variables. If you need more detailed info, or would like to see the sample proj. I created let me know.

Jump to next slide in Powerpoint when embedded Captivate SWF
Hi all,
first of all, I am pretty new to the captivate forum, and searched a while without success, too many powerpoint to captivate issues but not the otherway around.
I have included a Captivated Version 5 compiled SWF into Powerpoint and made it Full Screen. Is there anyway to create a button in captivate5 to send a command (maybe through javascript/ fscommand etc.) to exit the captivate movie and go to next slide in Powerpoint?
As of now, all keys and mouseclicks are focussed on the swf and don't reach powerpoint.
Any ideas?

Presenter 10 jumps to next slide too soon in html 5
I created a presentation from powerpoint 2013 64bit, set to FM quality sound using Presenter 10.0.0 build 196. It is delivered by an Adobe Connect server. The presentations created this way are jumping to the next slide too soon when viewed online, which cuts off the last few words. I have to manually add blank space at the end of the audio for each slide and then upload it multiple times to check that it is OK. Is anyone else having this issue, and is there a known solution?
I have tried the remove and re-add and it makes no difference. I can't now get the Presenter presentation with video in mp4 format to display or play. I am not sure if it is there or not as when viewing on an iPad it says it is buffering but never actually stops buffering. I can see it on my computer fine and it plays fine, but some of the reason for publishing to html 5 is so as it can be seen by people using tablets. I just can't seem to get it to work no matter what I try.
So to recap:
1. using a presentation published using an older version of Presenter that contains flv videos
2. republishing the presentation using Presenter 10 to a Connect Content Library using HTML 5
3. have to convert the flv to mp4
4. on a computer using a variety of browsers the presentation plays fine.
5. on a tablet (iPad tried at this stage) the slides without video plays fine, the slides with video just continually says buffering
On the second point of Presenter throwing up an error message, it's not so much that it throws up the error message as I can cancel that. It's more to do with the fact that it throws it up each time I try to publish a presentation that includes video that is of a certain duration. I have followed the whole kill the process as suggested and while this does indeed stop the problem it just comes back when I open PowerPoint again and try to publish. -
No music when i burn my slide show to dvd in idvd
I selected the share to burn I slide show. This opened the idvd and transfered the info to it. I was able to burn a dvd, but the music did not transfer.
I am not able to open and edit the drop box to add music. I dont know what to try. Thanks.Thanks so much for your possible solution. If I can pull this off , I will no longer curse adobe PSE 13.
I'm still a long was off to accomplish this goal but I will surely give it a try. H264 (mp4) is still Greek to me. -

Hello, welcome to the user forum,
It would help if you told which version of Captivate you are using. Since you are talking about 'multiple actions', I suppose it is Captivate 4, because that feature was abandoned in Captivate 5 and even for CP4 it was not very recommendable, I always replaced it by an Advanced action.

On slide No. 13 of my Keynote presentation, I have varous pictures that go through automatically just as I programmed them, but if I I want to get by clicking to the next slide , it does not let me. How can I program so when I want goes to next slide?
Keynote is programmed to execute all of the effects in a build sequence before it will move to the next slide.
If you want tobe able to move to the next slide at any time in a sequence of builds, you will need to set all of the builds on that slide to: "on click". You will then need to execute each build by pressing the space bar or click the left mouse button for each object. -
Parts of image carry to next slide when scrolling

I'm having trouble when I scroll with either full motion
recording, or using manual screen capture.
The image is a table and lines of the table carry over to the
next slide. These lines that carry over are not present when I look
at the slides in edit view, it's only when I preview or publish.
Any ideas why this happens. I can remove them if I use full
motion recording very, very, very slowly. But this is not perfect
either. I've done quite a lot of capturing over the last 12 months
and haven't encountered this before.
Any thoughts appreciated.Th other thing I should mention is sometimes parts of lines
go missing as you are scrolling. -
Cp5 - Slide with FLV doesn't continue to next slide.
Is this still a bug? I'm on Windows XP. I have an FLV on a slide, set to display for length of slide, and 'pause slide till end of video'. The FLV has the minimal clearskin1 playbar, and synchronize with project is unchecked, loop in unchecked.
I don't want the learner to be able to skip the video, so I have the project skin turned off. After the FLV plays I want the slide to advance to the next slide, which is a quiz slide. After publishing, if I don't pause the video, it works. But if I pause the video, it sometimes DOESN'T work...the video fades to black and the slide just sits there, and since there is no skin, there is no way to go to the next slide. If I put a 'Next' button on the slide and have it appear toward the end of the video, then I run into the problem of it appearing too soon if the person pauses the video for a long time, since the slide continues to play even if the FLV is paused.
Is this a bug in CP5 as well?

mQuick question before I give up on this. Can I only add tables in this manner. I am trying a simple file right now untill I understand how to do it. I create a file that contains a button (which will be used for adding an extra drop down list) and a drop down list. I did not include a second button to remove the section.
I then select the button and in the Script window add the:

Quiz Skip Button Jump to Another Slide that is not Next slide.
Is it possible to make the Quiz Skip button jump to another slide besides the next slide? I'm using Captivate 7.
Basically, I want the quiz slide to exit to another slide that is not the next slide.Branch aware is a totally different thing: it makes the quizzing variables dynamically adapting to the questions that are taken by the trainee.
You are talking about the Skip button, which is puzzling because that button label was changed to Next since version 6. And Branch aware only appeared in 6. Which version are you using? You are talking about shapes so it must be 6 or later.

You are talking about a 'custom Skip button'? Can you explain, and also what you mean by the rollover shape? If you have a custom button it should be visible on the timeline of the slide, contrary to the default objects on question slides that are embedded and have no separate timeline. Or was the question master slide edited to add a rollover shape to the default Next button?

i used that trigger to validate records...if i have a record status "sealed" i want that record wont show up.

You are using WHEN-VALIDATE-ITEM trigger to validate records????
If you want the records that are "sealed" to be excluded from your query, you can set the block's either DEFAULT_WHERE or ONETIME_WHERE clause programatically using SET_BLOCK_PROPERTY.

Show/hide - not working when jumping slides
Hi all - here's the scenario.
Slide 1 - three buttons that jump to future slides (call them slide 3, 4, and 5) to display information; this slide has a longer audio file to play and direct users on how to use these buttons. Each button has an advanced action attached to it to Show a checkmark image appear on slide 2 so users can see what they clicked previously.
Slide 2 - Same three buttons, no audio, same advanced action on each button.
Slide 3, 4 ,5 - Slides with info on them, plus audio. On Exit each jumps back to slide 2.
My issue is that the checkmark isn't appearing on Slide 2 when users click on a button on slide 1. If users click on a button on slide 2, the check mark appears when they come back to the page.
I even tried adding an advanced action On Exit to slides 3, 4, 5 to make the check mark appear, but it still doesn't work on whatever button I push/slide I visit FIRST. Second attempts and other buttons work.
Any ideas?Hello
Sorry, know that I have promised to help you out but had so many deadlines and troubles yesterday. Your previous question is still marked and high on my priority list.
You issue is linked with the fact that you have twice the same slide and I think you only need them because of the audio, they are identical for the rest. You can set the checkmarks on the first slide to display for the rest of the project and hide them on slide 3, 4, 5. Then, you'll see the checkmark on the second slide when that item has been clicked on the first slide. But the contrary will be a lot more difficult, since that means that you need the same checkmarks on both slides, but they have a different ID, what makes it a lot more cumbersome. It can be solved but will take some time.
So my first question here is: do you really need the two slides, if it is only for the audio, that could be solved with attaching the audio to an object (posted on my blog an example where a lot of audio clips are manipulated yesterday). Is there another reason for those 2 slides?

When playing songs in iTunes playlist, How do you keep the next song from jumping to next song? I am working on song list updating other tracks info and then the next song starts and I lose my spot in song list?

I had a similar problem: I wanted to synch my playlist to my iphone. I like to have my playlist sorted by genre. But under each genre, albums are not sorted by the track numbers. This is a problem, especially when I am listening to club mixes when the DJ smoothly transitions from 1 track sequentially to the next one. Under the properties of each audio file, the Track Numbers and Disc Numbers are already there.
My perfect solution was to turn On Sorting - Sort Album under View>Show View Options. Then, select all the songs in that album (Shift click, Cmd click, etc) , and Edit multiple item information (Cmd I). You will see Info-Video-Sorting-Options buttons. Click on Sorting. Then, under Sort Album, Enter the name of the album. Then OK.
You should now have the playlist sorted by Genre, then each album individually sorted by track numbers. On your playlist you should see, if you scroll right, the column added called "Sort Album".

I moved my itunes media folder to my public folder in my home folder so that my wife can share my music when she logs on as a user. Since doing this Aperture cannot locate any itunes music files and so I cannot add any music to a slideshow. All of my existing slideshows no longer play music. Can anyone help?
ThanksThank you for your prompt response - I did as you said and did a drag and drop into the iTunes window - it imported and got my album art from the net. When I started Itunes with the shift key down I was prompted to choose a library but since I copied over the media folder and not the library folder I was unable to select that so I guess I will have to create a new library and add in all the music, videos, etc. unless I wait for my laptop and export the library or at least that seems to be the case? In short, all my data (iTunes media folder) is on my external drive and can be added to the blank iTunes screen but I can not choose a library folder. Is there anyway around completely making all those playlists again? I am not sure my laptop will survive the shop with data intact and really hate to start over on those.
In an unrelated question - I collect old TV shows from the 1950's. Can I make playlists within the home video folder somehow? In other words like one for Quiz shows, one for comedies, one for police and detective shows, etc. while I am remaking all my playlists for my music if I end up having to go that route?
