Continuos Mac Kernel Panics (launchd)
I have continously, for quite a while now, been receiving the same Kernel Panic under "BSD process name corresponding to current thread: launchd." Originally, this Kernel Panic was a result of using SoundFlower, which I uninstalled back in February of 2014. Before that, Skype was the source of my first Kernel Panic in December of 2013. Avast, and anti-virus software, seemed to be the cause of some recent Kernel Panics under launchd as well, but I've uninstalled it and continued to receive the panics.
Here is the full error report: http://pastebin.com/5AAsFqFE
Appreciate the support. Thanks to all that help.
Other Information:
- Doing my own previous research, I was told that the panic could possibly be because of my RAM. I do have 3rd party RAM installed, so I figured that may be true. The RAM is from Crucial and its 16 GB (8GB x 2). Sadly, I have tested my RAM numerous times with the app "Remember" and never received any errors regarding my RAM. I also have swapped the slots of my RAM, just to be safe, which did help for a short time.
- I also suspect it must be something with my monitors. I do have 2 Acer monitors. One of them is I think 1 version younger than the other. After a panic, that older monitor is purple until login.
Hi,
I don't see anything obvious there.
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed. Or an errant process eating up RAM.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

MAC kernel panic after Mountain Lion install
Mac Kernel Panic has now started on my tower after i installed Moountain Lion.
I could not live with it and run my business so i had to get a new machine.
The tempertures are running the same on the new machine so it is NOT the temperture.
Apple support tried replacing one of my Nvita graphics cards to no avail.
Now they want to replace the second one.
Really??
What do you think???

If you don't get any kernel panics, then try connecting devices one at a time and test for a few days or until you get another KP.
I just read another post which stated there were several threads listing problems with the dual GT 120 cards and Mountain Lion. So, you might search out those if it doesn't turn out to be one of the attached devices. -
Leopard Disk made my Mac Pro Kernel Panic
I have used original OSX 10.5 Leopard Disk to repair my mac pro HD, but it made my Mac Pro Kernel Panic. It was strange that the Mac Pro install disk one can success enter install mode!
Although I have conducted RESET PRAM procedure, the Leopard disk still made the mac Kernel Panic.I would like to ask if you upgraded your graphics card and if so, that it might require a later OS version than the DVD.
Two, I never use the DVD to repair permissions (Apple warns users to not use the DVD to do so now with Leopard); or to repair disk drives.
You are better off setting up a bootable hard drive for emergencies; a bootable clone of your working system; and, TimeMachine, so you have more than just one backup set or method.
Kernel panics are caused by hardware otherwise, most often due to 3rd party devices and even cables, including Firewire or USB.

Another freakin' Kernel Panic!
I'm eating my dinner and had my MacBook next to me watching Yahoo Game Cast on the NBA game. All of the sudden a kernel panic occured! ARGHHH!!
THis is the 4th PK since February 5th. The last three are all caused by:
invalid frame pointer 0x0
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.apple.driver.AirPortAtheros(221.46)@0x9b2000
I've tested my machine with Apple Hardware Tester and everything passed. Thus I guess I don't need to re-insert my RAM chips? I also have the most recent AirPort extreme upgrade installed as well. What else do I need to do? Frustratin as ****!!Have you installed any libraries in the system directories? The only time I've had a Mac kernel panic on me is when I compiled my own copies of libjpg and libpng and installed them on the system, not knowing that some of the frameworks on the system already have them, and evidentally, mine were found and used before the ones it wanted, and my Mac started kernel panicing about every 20 minutes. I reinstalled the OS clean and never have installed libraries in the system directories again (just used them from somewhere in my own home directory), and have never had another problem with kernel panics.

My early 2008 Mac Pro (2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 24 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM) is still experiencing frequent Kernel Panic freezing.
Some days I can go the whole day without one, other days I will experience many, some while using the computer, some after waking it up, some after restarting from one.... its a mess.
I thought it might be RAM related. So I ran different tests on all the chips, found nothing, no errors reported after overnight looping tests. I added more RAM (I ordered 4 2Gb chips so I'd have a total of 16Gb, they sent me 4Gb cards, so now I have 24Gb. I have heard its best to have all cards of the same size, so I ran it with just the new 4Gb cards giving it 16Gb, it still crashed.) I tested the new ram alone, in 2 card groups, in different configurations on the RAM boards, nada.
Maybe it's the graphics card? But I get no weird graphics artifacts (which I did used to experience with my old iMac before it died).
The fans seem to run normally, not too fast or too loud. Sometimes after repeated crashes I'll open up the computer and blow it out with compressed air. That does seem to help, but not always. It's not real dusty, though there is a fine layer of dust that seems to be stuck/ coat the boards.
In Activity Monitor, the kernel_task hovers at about 1.22 Gb of RAM.
I can not iron down what the problem stems from. Nothing seems to alleviate the crashing, which has become more and more frequent it seems...
Anyone have any suggestions? I have tried using Hardware Test using the original OS disks. I have tried Memtest in Terminal. All to no avail. Nothing turned up any errors. I am not sure what to do next besides call for an Exorcism.
Please help! They keep happening. In the time it took to select the latest one, copy and paste it here, and then write this, a dozen more were logged... Is that normal??

Mac mini 2012 kernel panic problems
i have searched the boards, completed hardware tests, taken the machine, to the apple store 3 times (once left for overnight testing), stopped using the logitech mouse, disconnected my WD external drive, and completed no less than a dozen clean 10.10 reinstalls but still the mac has kernel panics.
in the past it would crash to the multilingual start up now it crashes to a file folder icon with a question mark and must be turned off.
how can i fix this problem? or how can i get apple to exchange the machine? my 2007 mac mini and 2008 iMac run like a champ, even the LC II from 1993 is more stable.
thank you for any thoughts or help! Joe

Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Keeping your confidential data secure during hardware repair
Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

"the computer was restarted after mac os x quit" followed by Kernel Panic
Running an Intel IMac 8,1. I think I'm running 10.5.5, but I'm not 100% sure.
Every time I start my computer pops up a display saying "the computer was restarted after mac os x quit" ignore/report.....and before I can click either, Kernel Panic happens.
I've tried hardware test and utilities/repair and neither works. Going to try to loop hardware test it over night.
I'm also at a loss as to how to get the log file and post it. I can connect it to a laptop, so if there is some way to do it that way, please let me know.
Thank you for any help.I got into my computer by booting into safe mode, so here's a ton of information and I hope some of it is useful.
A apologize if the formatting is wrong, I'm going from Mac to PC. Also, turns out my computer is running 10.5.4.

Kernel Panics at Mac Mini Leopard
Hi guys,
I have been experiencing regular kernel panics for the past two weeks and after calling twice Apple i decided to go on with a posting. Here is a briefing of what happened...
I bought the mini with Tiger just before Leopard was released. It had 1gb of RAM but on the spot I asked them to upgrade it with 1 more so in total I have 2 gb now. When Leopard was released -a month later or so -I bought it from apple and did and upgrade. The mac mini was working fine for almost a year but recently it started to crash with the screen going grey and a message saying "you need to restart your computer by holding down the switch on button" in several languages. This is a kernel panic as far as I know.
I decided to go for an archive and install of Leopard but the problem persisted. I then did a clean install (Leopard) but after a few days -and after installing all the programmes I had before- the same again with kernel panics. I run the hardware test -the short one/2mins and the longer one- and everything appeared to be fine. I cleaned the cache and cookies with Onyx and still nothing. I run a software called preferential treatment and checked for system preferences problems. It found some and i deleted them. Of course I run disk utility and repaired permissions several times but again nothing. A guy from Apple told me to re-install Tiger and then upgrade to Leopard but I haven t done that.
Initially I was suspecting Time machine having a corrupted file that would cause the Kernel Panic but the again I should have the problems when I am entering time machine which is not the case.
It looks like that the Mac mini crashes when 5-7 applications are running. I used to work with many applications open but I never had this problem. Can it be a hardware problem?
The kernel panic report is as follows. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi all -
So my Mac Pro 1,1 has been having kernel panics intermittently and I don't think they are tied to any specific OS upgrade. I used to get a couple a year until a few months ago and now I am getting them more frequently and I can't repro them.
I've Googled incessantly the past several days looking for possible solutions and cannot come up with anything. Does the kernel crash log mean anything to anybody?

The backtrace points to Disk I/O routines as the place where the problem was detected. I would be very suspicious of your third-party drives that require non-standard drivers. I have external drives, but none requires a Driver, and I certainly do not see your crashes.
If you want Apple to take your problem seriously, you will need to duplicate the failure with no non-Apple kernel extensions present. -
Kernel Panic Nvidia Quadro Pro 4000 CC14 MAC PRO 10.9.4 mavericks
I get kernels panics constantly when using CC14 lightroom and photoshop.. And this is causing me to loose thousands of dollars. I have searched for months have lost thousands of dollars in work, have trued to contact support only to be sent to community forums which i get no response...o
THEREFORE.....
Allow me to waste more time by contacting this unresponsive company.
i constantly get Kernel Panics when using CC14 associated with my NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2048 while using cc14 photoshop and lightroom since I updated to Maverick 10.9.4.
I have been searching for fixes for months, i have updated everything, every driver, and this has costed me THOUSANDS of dollars in pay i am unable to receive because my %^&* computer keeps crashing.
Now i am pissed! I have consulted APPLE and even after pushing me up to the top level. they still read off a piece of paper. ! i just wanted to go back to osx before mavericks which i was having NO ISSUES but no one seem to have a clue at apple how to even turn one on.
1. i am NOT doing a master restore and I NEVER had a problem before Mavericks and CC14!!!
2. Every driver is updated every firmware is updated
3. there is NOTHING RUNNING IN HTE BACKGROUND
4. i did an smc and reset pram
5. ran disk utility -- no problems
6. searched for answers for months.
7. and by the way..... photoshop cc14 does not save your work on a crash. it saves what you already saved
I AM TIRED OF WASTING MY TIME TRYING TO GET ANSWERS WHEN I ONLY GET IGNORED.
this is an issue with my nvidia quadro pro 4000 video card and -- adobe and - mavericks.
MY system is high end, mac pro 5,1 Processor 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Late 2010 20 gig ram, quadro pro 4000 and an APPLE SSD TS512B
solid state
and i spent 10 gran on this system. I am a professional and this is my BUSINESS... my only income. not a kid playing games.
The video card was over a 1000.00! Nvidia? ADOBE?
This needs to be fixed. this is my livelihoodThanks for responding....of course I mean adobe. A community forum is NOT a company.
I read the link to the thread and this person says an application CANNOT cause kernel panics -- well Apple begs to differ. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14063
I have my own photography studio, ive spent over a half million dollars on my education (2 masters degrees) my equipment, and traveling the world to various workshops. I spend some evening researching new technology to stay on top of my craft but what I dont do and dont have time to do is follow forums regularly.
Therefore i dont know that this person has repeatedly said the same thing over and over in different threads about applications causing KP.
You suggested that I take my trouble shooting somewhere else...trust me this is not the first place ive tried to get answer.s I have been trying to resolve this issue since i updated to 10.9.4 and CC 14 and Nvidia Quadro pro 4000. It has been months of phone calls research, forums, talking to anyone i know that knows anything and I have lost thousands of dollars. My digital lab ran perfect before the updates.
so......
First...I DISAGREE with the guy in the thread because what he wrote is just his opinion. It doesnt matter wjho he works for, it a person converses a fact with NO REFERENCES then it looses credibility. I always include a reference when I make a statement to anyone
second: as i said in my discussion -- i have done everything and the only time i get kernel panics is when using photoshop - nothing else running in the background, and the issue is with the video card drivers , 10.9.4 and photoshop and lightroom CC14.
lastly; I know my video card is fine because Ive had photoshoots where i tethered (as I alwasy do) to Phocus software for my Hasselblad H4d and there is never a crash or kernel panic issue. ever.
I ONLY GET KERNEL PANICS WHEN I USE ADOBE PHOTOSHOP OR LIGHTROOM CC14 AND IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED SINCE I UPDATED TO 10.9.4 AND CC14
apple told me to do a restore -- they were just reading me what they were supposed to say. -
Booting from firewire target mode on a mac pro with kernel panic?
hello
i am wondering if it is possible to use firewire target mode to boot a mac pro that has never got past a multi language kernel panic on boot?
basically i have tried all the other options and cant get it to open the superdrive to insert my installation disk, as to repair the drivers with my snow leopard disk.
i've tried holding my mouse key down, the paperclip option on the drive itself and the firmware keycombo, so my idea is that the only way to fix it is with target mode. can this be done - and if so - could someone direct me towards a tutorial that will help me do this.
please advise if this is possible or if there is another method i should use? apart from taking it to the applestore (extreme last ditch option) i am quite low on ideas here.
many thanks!
p.s heres the message i wrote for the original problem which caused all the kernel panics;
"i recently bought a mac pro and upon starting it for the first time opted to transfer the all the data i could over via firewire from my macbook pro.
i used the standard 't' command with the firewire symbol.
Somewhere towards the end of the transfer (I am not sure at what pont - I wasnt there for all of it) - , the monitor went blank and the whole thing was unresponsive. my macbook's firewire sign continued to move around the screen.
after leaving it for some time i decided to turn off the macbook and then the mac pro.
i restarted the macbook and got some pretty crazy stuff happening to my calender - but so far everything seems to be fine.
i am more concerned about the "you need to restart your computer" message; this is the dreaded 'kernel panic' right?. i have never actually done anything with this computer yet, and it was purchased new.""i recently bought a mac pro and upon starting it for the first time opted to transfer the all the data i could over via firewire from my macbook pro.
Never opt to transfer until you have insured it works fine for a couple days, I would never use Setup or Migration Assistant until such time, and I would have a bootable backup clone.
Try pulling all the hard drives from inside your Mac Pro and boot from OS X DVD - latest OS build. -
Kernel panics on my mac pro for almost a year- I am at my wit's end
So I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro. 12 Core, initially 16GB of Ram (Recently upgraded to 24GB of RAM). Starting in January of 2012 my machine running Snow Leopard started to go to sleep and not wake up. This would happen every few days but then would increase in frequency. I scoured the boards for an answer but couldn't find one so I ended up taking teh machine to the local Apple Store. They found nothing wrong with the machine but installed a clean copy of Snow Leopard and that seemed to help for a while. The problem persisted. I would reset PRAM and try different approaches in boards on line including repariing permissoins etc. Nothing worked for long. Desperate I tried upgrading to Lion but the problem persisted. I took the machine back to the apple store (same location) and they suggested that carbonite was causing the problem. I did a fresh install of Mountain lion this time, and then slowly added applications back one at a time to see if the problem was truly application based. I never re installed carbonite. I don't believe the problem is application based because I have a 2010 Mac Pro that has the identical software setup ( I freelance and when I work off site I use the laptop) and have never had an issue with any kernel panics. Additionally I have a 2008 Mac pro with the exact same setup and no issues there either. Before long the problem re-appeared but now with Lion and Mountain lion the machine restarts and I get a message that the machine was forced to re-start after an issue. I called Apple support and got a very nice guy name Sean Thorpe who promised to help me. I sent them crash logs, he sent me some applications to install or checks to run so that he could send my crash logs to the engineering department to debug. Nothing. no one has solved this problem. Fed up I demanded a new machine. I have apple care so I am covered but they refused. Sean then suggested that I remove all of my drives and then partition the boot drive and install a clean copy of Mountain lion and see if the problem continues. I did that. Within 24 hours the machine crashed again. It was running off the partition and I didn't install a single application. I don't know that much but the problem has to be hardware. It two visits to the apple store and a detailed study of crash logs by apple's engineers can't figure it out I figure that I just got a lemon. I am fed up. I spent a lot of money on this machine and it isn't dependenable. I have owned at least four other macs and have loved every one of them and every one has been a great machine.
I am at my whit's end and considering trying something desparate like trying to contact someone who runs customer service or Tim Cook himself. I don't have any idea how I can get that contact information nor do I actually think it will get me anywhere so I am turning to this community for one last attempt to solve what ever is going on with my machineThank you for you swift reply

My Macbook has a Kernel Panic when trying to boot from Mac OS Install DVD
It might also be relevant that my Accounts Preference Panel crashes System Preferences when I try to open it. Disk Utility sees no problems with my drive, and booting into single user mode and doing a disk check has no results.
I am running a 2010 Macbook
2GB Ram
2.4 Duel Core Processor
Mac OS 10.6.8
Windows Installed Via Bootcamp, but problems occured before Windows was installed as well.
Anything Else that I need to add?Try reinstalling Snow Leopard. If you continue getting a kernel panic booting from the DVD, then either you have a bad installer disc or you have a hardware failure.
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
Do the following:
1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer. Proceed with reinstalling OS X. Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files. After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install the Combo Updater for the version you prefer from support.apple.com/downloads/. -
Frequent Kernel Panics w/ core duo mac mini
I have been having kernel panics left and right. It's random... meaning it seems to happen whenever it wants to do anything er.. out of the ordinary.
- It's crashed on me frequently when trying to view the dashboard
- It's crashed on me frequently after using Front Row
- It's crashed on me when it wants to sync with .Mac
- It's crashed on me when opening System Preferences
I think for the most part, I'd like to say that the crashes happens when it's waking up a hardware device or the sort. Of course, that's just pure speculation at the moment. Otherwise, it's obviously not so random frequent event.
It rarely crashes, if I open all these apps, close it, and do multiple tasks. The symptoms seem to be more like i.e. The system has been idle for a while, I suddenly call on the dashboard and Wham!! kernel panic.
In another case, the system is rather idle. I decide to check out system preferences. Again, a kernel panic.
.Mac wants to sync after the systems been idel... again kernel panic.
Anyway, in short, it seems so far this kernel panic happens after the system has been idle for a while.
Mac Mini w/ mini-optical sound out connected, display is hooked via DVI to HDMI cable, USB 2.0 external hard drive connected, Bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse, and a digital cable box connected via Firewire.
So, why all the kernel panics? Anyone else having frequent kernel panics. Here's are the last three entries in the panic.log.
