Continuous output on a waveform monitor

Running an older Black Magic HD Extreme video card on a G5; SDI output to a waveform monitor.
External video set to "all frames." Problem is the output only changes when I pause the video. This is a problem because I want to shoot video of the waveform output changing -- it's for an instructional DVD.
Is the problem that it's running on a G5? Would I do any better running it on my Mac Pro quad? I need to check on this because I would have to buy a new Black Magic card for $1000 to fit the Mac Pro so I don't want to jump into it unless I have to.

Is the problem that it's running on a G5?
No, your Decklink HD equipped G5 is plenty capable. If you are not getting a full motion output then you have some other mismatch. What are your source clip properties, what are your sequence settings, and what video playback preset have you selected?

  • Using an external waveform monitor

I have an external waveform monitor (SDI input) and a Black Magic Decklink Extreme which has an SDI output.
I'm trying to get output from Final Cut Pro so I can read the images on the waveform. I've tried "Refresh AV Devices" and enables "All Frames" but it doesn't seem to work.
Ideally, I want to get a continuous output -- not just one frame at a time.
    What should I try?

Do you have the correct Decklink setting in the Preference pane?

  • How do I output three digital waveforms at once?

I posted this in Digital I/O, but now I think it's actually more appropriate here because it's not a hardware question. I need to output three digital waveforms at a relatively low frequency, 71.9 Hz. I have a PCI DAQ card, the 6024E and am using the NI-DAQmx functions to try to do this. My program basically generates the square wave that I want, and converts it into a digital wave. I do this 3 times for the three separate waves, and then I combine them into an array and send them to my DAQ functions, which are in a while loop so I can get continuous output. My problem is that the waveform that the DAQ is actually outputting is not what I want. It's outputting a wave that has the same duty cycle (approximately) but the frequency is over 2 kilohertz. It's not like this all the time; after it outputs about 7 cycles of this wave, it goes to logic low for a long time, and then repeats itself. When I probe the digital waveform right before it goes into the DAQ functions, it's running correctly at 71.9 Hertz. Am I doing anything wrong with the DAQ functions or the sampling information? Thanks in advance.

    Hello Josh,
I'm pretty sure that the reason that your digital waveforms are not being produced at the correct frequency is because your digital output is not associated with any sort of timing. Unfortunately, with an E series board you can only do software timed digital operations. This means that the frequency at which the values on your digital lines will be updated depends on how fast/often your computer executes the DAQmx Write that is inside of your while loop. If you have an M series board, you can actually correlate the DIO operations with another subsytems clock (AI/AO sample clock, etc.) which means that you can acheive hardware-timed DIO. In the event that you do not have access to an M series board, I think that AnalogKid2DigitalMan was spot on that you would want to use counters to generate pulse trains (that is if your digital waveforms have a constant duty cycle and period). Depending on what the DAQ board is outputting to, you might also want to consider using the Analog Output channels to generate your digital waveform. As long as you continue to use the digital lines on the 6024E, there is not really a way to guarantee the timing of when the digital lines will be updated. You might be able to get close, but you will probably see some "hiccups", especially if your computer needs to service interrupts or give processing time to another application. And lastly, heed geckoee's advice and don't forget to properly close out your tasks! Putting in some error handling may also help in the debugging process.

  • Missing Waveform Monitors - New Install, Most Recent Premiere CC 2014

    Hi,
I recently downloaded and installed Premiere Pro CC and related apps with a cloud subscription on a new Mac Pro tower. I connected by working RAIDs and opened a PPro project originated on my previous edit system, an iMac.  Right away I noticed some strange behavior and key features missing when I went to color correct my footage.
With the desired timeline active in the "Editing" workspace, I used the keyboard shortcut (I also tried this with the dropdown menu) and switched the workspace to color correction. Rather than the timeline activated in the "editing" workspace, a completely different timeline in the project appeared in the "color correction" space. This occurred multiple times with seemingly every timeline, but the one I desired to correct activating in the "color correction" space.
Also, the waveform monitors are absent from both the reference and program viewer menus. I can't seem to the find them anywhere. This leaves me feeling a bit crazy, as I was operating in the most current PPro CC version on the iMac just yesterday and everything was in its place.
Thoughts on what  is going on here?
    Here are my system specs:
    Mac Pro
    Yosemite 10.10.1
    Processor: 3.5 GHz 6-COre Intel Xeon E5
    Memory: 32 GB 1886 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics: AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB
For now I suppose, I'll try uninstalling and re-installing the app. Other ideas? Anyone else experiencing this?
    Lindsay

Thank you for all of the feedback. I have tried un-installing and re-installing twice now. Once using the cleaner tool and once without. Neither has remedied the problem. I was sure to check "Remove Preferences" when performing the un-install, but when I opened a new project after the re-installation, PPro opened in the "Color Correction" workspace rather than opening in the standard editing workspace and still no scopes.
    Other ideas?
I found this thread, which isn't boosting my confidence in a healthy Premiere / Mac Pro relationship, but I have seen no mention of the missing scopes issue I am experiencing. And really I haven't progressed to the point of attempting an export or render. As you well know, scopes are vital, and there's no point exporting if I can't properly polish a product.

  • DVDSP output to my NTSC Monitor?

    Hey there,
I have a JVC NTSC monitor that is plugged into my AJA Kona LH. I'm having great luck using it with Motion, FCP and After Effects, as the "Output" preferences allow me to choose the Kona and my work shows up on the JVC just like it's supposed to.
Somehow, however, I do not get any option in Preferences within DVD studio pro to output to anything other than the Desktop. I have no Firewire into the JVC, which I think may be part of the issue?
Any ideas how I can do DVD simulations and output them onto my monitor?
    Thanks!
    Gman

Any ideas how I can do DVD simulations and output them onto my monitor?
Can't be done with Apple's new Desktop Preview thingie... it specifically requires a video card to do it, not an AJA card. It certainly does not show my Aurora Fuse card as an option.
It's not a Firewire issue. With Firewire, you have something (usually a camcorder or DV deck) that serves as the digital/analog converter. If there was a Firewire converter that decoded MPEG2 instead of DV, and if DVDSP supported it, then it would be a Firewire issue.
Basically, to do what you want, you'd need a card that provided hardware MPEG2 decoding. Apple bought Spruce's card that provided that capability when they bought Spruce, but have chosen not to offer it as a product.
The lack of true MPEG2 decoding and previewing on a broadcast monitor is often mentioned as one of the big drawbacks for using a Mac as a pro DVD authoring setup.

  • Hello to all: My iMac has developed a video display problem. It displays everything in cartoon like colors - purple, green, blue. Can this be repaired? Is there a way to output to a different monitor? Thanks in advance!  isplays

    Hello -
My iMac has developed a video display problem. Everything now appears in a strange, cartoonish way. Purples, greens, blues. Can this be fixed, and if so, any idea how much it might cost? Also, could I output to a seperate monitor? I plan to replace the unit , but cannot right now. Thanks!

Go to System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing.
In the Display area, reset it to "Black on white" by clicking that checkbox.
You can also reset it by pressing Command-Option-Control-8

  • DAQmx: Digital - Continuous Output.vi example with PCI-6519 (error -200077)

    Bonjour everyone,
    Main goal :
I want to use 1 digital output of the PCI-6519 harware to make  a staked light indicator blink when user is needed to operate the test station.
    What I am trying:
I open the labview 2013 wxample "DAQmx: Digital - Continuous Output.vi" to learn how I could use a DAQmx task to perform this blink instead of using a dynamic call of a VI changing the output in 'while loop'.
The example states that my hardware should be able to run it but I always get an error -200077 right at the beginning with the DAQmx Timing.vi mentionning that my PORT2, line 0 does not support the 'Sample Clock' property which is hard coded in the example. I can't find a different property that this example will accept to try to change the status of my digital output on a time basis.  Does the PCI-6519 device support timing for a digital output or not?
If anyone has a better or simplier idea to achieve such a simple goal, feel free to suggest.  I am using DAQmx for the first time and I don't know much about what my options are.
    Thanks

    Hi Nienscecco,
Unfortunately PCI-6519 doesn't support HW timing, I've just tried with a simulate PCI-6519 device and I confirm you that you must specify an external clock in order to use this example.
Do you have some kind of frequency generator to provide it ? Or maybe another NI board with embedded counters in order to build it ?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

  • How do I add an output for a 2nd monitor?

I have a mac mini that was purchased in 2009 I believe, maybe 2008. The operating system has been upgraded to Snow Leopard. I want to add a 2nd monitor, so I can use 2 at the same time, however, there is only one output. Is there a way to add an output for a 2nd monitor? OS is 10.6.X. not at the computer right now to check.
    Thanks for input.

If the back of your mini looks like this:
    - then you have two display ports already (Mini DVI Port and MiniDisplayPort). I only mention this, as it may not be obvious! You just need the right adapters to feed your two monitors.
    If it looks like this:
    - then you do indeed only have one display output (DVI) and then ignore me, and listen to Asatoran!

  • Tool bench / Waveform monitor / video scopes- brightness of display problem

the display in my tool bench, and specifically in the waveform monitor, is too dark to read.
Happily in the upper left corner, jsut below the "Video Scopes" tab, there are two buttons to adjust:
    click to set scale brightness
    click to set display brightness
But ... everytime i go away and come back to the tool bench, it reverts to the too dark setting and i must reset it. there must be some way to make a new default value to the display brightness that stays. As it is, the default is waaaay low, so it isn't some factory middle value.
    Ideas?
    thanks

None, sorry. Mine work as they are supposed to which does not help.

  • Lag on DAQmx continuous Outputs?

I'm trying to use DAQmx to set up an output that is "continuous".  By that I mean that it would keep going without stop but, I want to be able to control the magnitude of the signal.  I don't know why but when I try to change the output I get a lot of lag.  Does anyone know how to control lag levels on continuous Outputs?

    Hi Over_Nyquest,
I tried running your code on my system and did not get the same underflow error that you are seeing. What device are you using? Have you tried reducing your sampling rate as suggested in the error message?
Also, below are some articles that discuss how to use the properties available in LabVIEW to tune latency:

  • Why those gray bars in the waveform monitor ?

    Hi,
On previous FCP, the gray bars in the Waveform monitor were visible only when using the Sequence's RGB render settings.
Now, with FCP 5.1.4, if i place, say, a layer with composite mode, the gray bars show even if i work in a "High quality YUV" setting.
    Just curious...why that change ?
    thanks

I don't know what gray bars you're talking about. If it's the graticule (thin horizontal lines at regular intervals), they're an essential part of a waveform display. Without them you'd have a hard time doing precise calibrations.
I can only assume that if they were gone before and there now for you, somebody fixed a problem. Or you had them turned off before.
If you're talking about some other kind of grey bars, then you'll have to explain what they are.

  • I want to output an arbitrary waveform using LabView onto the oscilliscope through the DAQ2005 card. Can anyone help please?

    Hey guys,
I am new to LabView and my final year project depends on it! Please help as much as you can!
I am trying to output an arbitrary waveform on an oscilliscope. The shape of the waveform depends on user input parameters like no. of samples, amplitude of each sample and the frequency of desired waveform. Please refer to attached Arbitrary_Wave_Display.vi. In the attached vi, the desired waveform is displayed on the front panel. My project requires that I output this waveform through the analogue output channels of the 2 DAQ2005 cards that I have. When I connect the output of th Arbitrary_Wave.vi to the input of the AO write express vi, there is no output of the oscilliscope. I believe it should be connection problems with regards to while loops and loop conditions. I have also attached my attempted vi.
Please feel free to give some advice. It is greatly appreciated,
    Best regards,
    TheApprentice of LabView

You didn't attach any VI and what is the DAQ 2005? I don't know of any NI board with that model number. The analog output functions on the LabVIEW DAQ palette only work with NI boards.

  • Where is the menu to select the waveform monitors and vectorscope?

I feel stupid but I am unable to find the menu to select the waveform monitors and vectorscope in the newest update to PP CC.  Any guidance would be most helpful.  Happy Halloween!

FWIW - I have set up a Keyboard Shortcut  that Displays Waveforms in the Program Monitor.
My wish was for them to be available as a Button Icon but that is not possible.

  • Using a calibration target with a waveform monitor to get the right contrast?

I was wondering if I am using this target correctly with the waveform monitor to achieve the right amount of contrast.

    Dave
You are doing it kind of wrong.
What you should use that Black /Grey White TOOL  for is to set an exposure at the camera.  (NOT in Post Production..but it does have an application in post)
If your Camera has the Zebras set at 95-100% White...you would point camera at the "TOOL" and adjust exposure so that the zeras display on the white section.  You can not do anything about the black. (It will fall into place from the exposure on the white)
Now the above assumes that as a photographer...you actuall want the white level to photograph as white for the particular shot that you are taking.
Exposure is all about tones.  Black to white thru grey tone actually.  (Forget about color)
Hope this helps but I am happy to expand if you wish.

  • How to get RGB color corrector back working with YC waveform monitor

so, as many of you are probably aware, Adobe's latest update killed the RGB color corrector, at least in terms of using it with the YC waveform monitor.
    In this thread ( http://forums.adobe.com/message/4825916#4825916 )
    someone says-
"Yes it's a Bug since the 6.0.2 Update. I replace the effect in the premiere plugin directory with the same from version 6.0.1 and it's working again"
how can I go about doing this?
I looked on another machine running premiere 6.0.0, but I am not seeing a plugin for RGB color corrector in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\Plug-ins\Common
    and I don't know what "RGBColorCorrector.cubin" is in  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS6\PTX\cubin11
bottom line is that I want the RBG CC back working with the YC waveform monitor again.

also, I saw that initially, but assumed it was only used by after effects, due to the AE in the name, and that windows classifies it as an "adobe after effects effect".
