Continuous soundtrack changing over slide sub-sets - how do you do it?

My apologies for following this up - BUT - I can't find the exact threads you refer to. My problem is that I can't get different songs or playlists to link to different sub-sets of slides so that the soundtrack changes during the slideshow presentation when the new sub-set is reached. For the appropriate su-set I have selected the sub-set in the Navigator and opened the inspector and then dropped the song or playlist in the audio well - BUT - the soundtrack linked to the first slide sub-set plays for the entire slide show and doesn't change to the other soundtracks similarly selected for the other slide sub-sets with other linked playlists. Please help - what am I doing wrong??

Thank you for the responses to my original queries - I thought it would be productive if I responded and perhaps the issue could be closed. I originally wanted one slide show ( = one file) that had a soundtrack that changed, eg did one iTunes playlist containing 5 songs, and then went to another iTunes playlist containing 2 songs. Keynote cannot do this, and later versions may well be able to as it seems like a sensible addition to the applications existing capabilities. Forget slide sub-sets for now.
To overcome this "limitation" I used hyperlinks. This requires a separate Keynote file for each set of slide where a different soundtrack is required. That means that one presentation might used numerous Keynote files. Follow the user guide to hyperlink the last slide of each file to the first slide of next file. Activating the hyperlink seemlessly opens the next file which appears as though part of a countinuos slide show - only the music changes to what is required.
Caution - "clicking" on the hyperlink means "clicking with the mouse" not using the fwd arrow key or anything else. Working this out held me up believe it or not because I kept forwarding to activate the hyperlink.
I hope this helps any user who wants a changing soundtrack - it is easily and seemlessly doable with this application - thank you to all respondents for your guidance and patience.

    Hello,
Please make sure that the next button is pinned to the right side as there in the attached image.
If it is already pinned, you can try removing any embedded HTML code and checking it.

  • Changing env vars "upstream"? (how do you change MPD_HOST?)

on desktops, you usually have a process tree that goes something like (well, this is only one branch):
    init───login───bash───startx───xinit─┬─.xinitrc───sessionmanager─┬─WM
we all know that env vars are passed on "down the tree". but this sometimes bothers me, for example when using mpd. it uses a variable MPD_HOST
so when i have a running desktop, and i want to use an other mpd instance I must change MPD_HOST.  I can only do this in the "local" environment.  the widgets in my WM, the interfaces that I use etc cannot be aware of the changed variable.
how do you guys handle this?
I have some ideas for solutions:
    1) make MPD_HOST=mpdhost and use /etc/hosts to make it point to other things. but that won't help for MPD_PORT or non-mpd related variables.  not mentioning some apps might cache dns internally. and this requires root
    2) hack my session manager so that i can somehow notify it (signals, let it listen to a socket, etc) and have it change an environment variable.  but i don't know if the changed variable will automatically "propagate downstream" (probably not).
    any more ideas?
    thanks.

hm yeah, it obviously won't work for running instances of programs - it just makes sure that changes in env (in the respective env-file) take effect for all new instances of $program.
You can eg use gdb to change the env of a running process (have a look at this script for reference http://www.nanonanonano.net/linux/chenv) , but most of the time that won't help you. Typically env vars are only evaluated at startup and then used to populate the appropriate structures. You'll probably have to implement the required functionality yourself in every single program.
For MPD a more or less simple workaround might be writing a small proxy that allows you to switch its destination on the fly - but i don't know whether MPD's protocol is stateful and whether clients will handle the transition gracefully.

A friend bought a Mac Pro, I want to also, he cannot download a project movie from Imovie to IDvd, because I Dvd is not downloaded on his $3000.00 new computer, what has apple done, how do you download & burn a movie project from Imovie if you do not have IDvd software, all previous systems had IDvd on them to do this. What is going on and how do you burn now.

I have a slide which has a 30 sec display time.  I want to change it to 6 secs.  So I go to slide propteries and change display time to 6.  I click OK but it make no difference.  When I look at the properties again, the time is set back to 30 secs !

Thank you.  That has solved a number of my problems.  The time line does not appear by default on a new installation.  In fact it was quite tricky to get it visible but it is now.

  • How do you rename, or change permissions on many files?

**Note** there are SUDO commands here that can potentially wreck up your system.  If you have questions about this stuff, post in the forum or ask someone verbally to help.  The sudo command can really cause problems if you're not entirely sure what you're doing.
I had an issue a while ago where I had to rename about 400 pictures all in the same folder.  They were all named by a students PEN #.  I needed an incremental number starting at 001.jpg.  I was hoping to figure out a script either in apple script or in terminal that would do the job.  I called a friend of mine at another school with my problem (he's a windows guy) and he had this great idea.
First of all, using terminal list all the files.
The command is simply "ls" without the quotes.
Select all the files that the ls command outputs and copy it.  (command c)
Next, open up excel or numbers or any spreadsheet program, select cell B1 and paste the list of files in question.
When I type SPACE below, I mean hit the space bar.
    Now comes the fun part.
In cell A1 type mv SPACE
    In Cell C1 type SPACE
    In Cell D1 type 001
    In Cell E1 type .jpg
In Cell F1 type the following.
Fill down each of the columns to the bottom of the list of file names.
    A
    B
    C
    D
    E
    F
    G
    mv
    pennumber1.jpg
    001
    .jpg
    =CONCATENATE(A1..E1)
    mv
    pennumber2.jpg
    002
    .jpg
    =CONCATENATE(A2..E2)
    mv
    pennumber3.jpg
    003
    .jpg
    =CONCATENATE(A3..E3)
    mv
    pennumber4.jpg
    004
    .jpg
    =CONCATENATE(A4..E4)
    mv
    pennumber5.jpg
    005
    .jpg
    =CONCATENATE(A5..E5)
Now Select all of column F and copy it.
Open up terminal and navigate to the folder that's containing all your files to be renamed.
    Hit paste and press enter.
This will paste in the contents of each cell in the f column followed by an enter.
    Voila!
Now, if you wanted to change ownership of a set of folders, you could use the same process.
I'm assuming that the folder's that your changing are home folders here.  In other words, the home folder name should be the same as the shortname of your user.
It might look something like this:
Navigate to the folder that conains your user folders.  **CAUTION  ----SUDO AHEAD***  This command can BREAK YOUR COMPUTER if you're not careful.
    Type:  sudo -s
    type your password.
Copy the list of Folders from terminal.
Paste them into some column way on the right in excel or numbers or whatever.  Maybe column F or something.
Now, in A1 type chmod SPACE        and fill it down all the way.
In B1 type -R SPACE         and fill it down all the way
In C1 type =F1 SPACE       and fill it down all the way
In D1 type =F1       and fill it down all the way
In E1 type =CONCATENATE(A1..D1)        and fill it down all the way
The spreadsheet might look like this:
    A
    B
    C
    D
    E
    F
    chmod
    -R
    =F1
    =F1
    =CONCATENATE(A1..D1)
    thor
    chmod
    -R
    =F2
    =F2
    =CONCATENATE(A2..D2)
    incrediblehulk
Again, just copy and paste column E into terminal and poof!  It should work!
*Note, it might be a good idea to run a trial on a folder that's not important to you before you start.  These commands you're running can wreck things up pretty good.  So ensure things are set up properly before hand!

In the Finder's Get Info window, under permissions, you can click the little gear icon and set the "Apply to encoded items" flag. Then when you change permissions, it will apply to everything underneath the selected folder.

  • How are you handling keyword sets?

After spending a little time keywording tonight, I like both Stamping and the "Assign this keyword to selected photo" options. Both are faster and easier than I anticipated. :-)
The one speed bump has been keyword set creation. It appears to limit each set to nine keywords. Is that right? If so, I guess you could divide long sets into several nine-word subsets. But if you want them in alphabetical order, what happens when you add a new keyword to the set? Wouldn't you need to shuffle everything that follows?
My temporary solution has been to create sets in the left Keyword Tags panel using "child of" nesting. This keeps that panel -- which otherwise sorts alphabetically without regard to category -- better organized and shorter. So far, I am keywording entirely from that side.
Does this make sense? If you need long sets or deep nesting in your sets, how are you approaching keywording? BTW, the more I use it, the better I like LR.

Alexander, what I'm asking about is how people handle long sets. If a keyword does not fall into the natural short-list category described by Mike, that doesn't mean you only use it "occasionally."
Suppose you regularly photograph species -- flowers, birds, animals -- or football teams with 85 players on a side. You don't want to type every name or drag and drop, do you? As Steve Jobs said of using a stylus: Yuck. Or Ick. Or Blech. Or whatever he said. :-)
The best solution I've found is to nest the lists in the left panel to shorten the panel, and then select images, twirl down the nested list to the desired keyword, and cmd-click to "Assign this keyword to selected photos." But that adds a step to the (IMHO) faster, easier system in Bridge.
Just asking if others have found a quicker way.

  • Indicator wraps around at 16777200, how do you increase this maximum

I am counting pulses that go much higher than this. I have tried setting the data range but it continues to wrap around at this value. how do you set ahigher value or count the number of times the indicator wraps around so that you can obtain the pulses counted.

This problem is likely to be caused by counter overflow i.e. the problem you are observing is associated with the hardware being used rather than the software you are developing. You do not mention the board that you are using but by looking at the number you state I would assume that this is a 24-bit counter 2^24 = 16777216 (an E-series board with the DAQ-STC ASIC perhaps??). I don't imagine that the problem is associated with the data range of the indicators you are using. If you are using either 16-bit signed/unsigned integer data type (I16 or U16) you would expect the wrap around to occur at different values - the same is true for a U32 or I32.
If you are using a board with 24-bit counters on it (you can check the user manual for you board for specific
ations for the counter), there are several solutions:
    1. Use a board with 32-bit counters on it (the newer PCI-660x boards have 32-bit counters on them).
    2. Develop some logic within your software which detects this overflow and manipulates the values that you observe on the user interface accordingly.
    3. Cascade the two counters on the DAQ-STC (assuming you have an E-series board) to produce a single 48-bit counter, giving you 2^48 possible counts = 281,474,976,710,656 (I hope this is enough!!). There are several pages on the NI web site to help with this option. A good starting point is:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/explprog.nsf/6c163603265406328625682a006ed37d/ea97d16a1a8fa902862568c1005f840c?OpenDocument
It does assume however that you are using LabVIEW....
I hope one of these options helps with your problem

  • How do you read the camera position in the 3d picture control?

    Hello,
There is a method to setup the camera position, but how do you read the current camera position?  e.g. the user uses the mouse, ctrl, and shift, to change the camera position.  How do you read this new camera position?  There don't seem to be any properties to do this.
    I've read this thread:
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=214629&requireLogin=False
but the question was never answered....
From the comments in that thread, even if you had the proper documentation for the "Model Matrix" property, you couldn't get the information necessary to calculation the camera position.

    Lorielle,
    Thanks for the VI.
Could you point me towards a more detailed description of the "Modelview Matrix" property?  I've attached a screenshot from the online help.  It is not very helpful.

The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
    1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
    2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted in Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
    3. Other issues
If you see a lock screen when trying to boot from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to  authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information.

How do you re-set the four digit password when your son, the comedian, thinks it was funny to change the password, but now cannot remember what he changed it to? the phone goes inactive for 60 minutes, but I can't figure out how to get a reset.  Thanks, kel

You're in trouble. You'll have to force the phone into recovery mode & restore it to remove the passcode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
