Continuous tone image resolution lower than specified

The following message was posted in the incorrect forum; no legitimate solution to the problem was ever posted. I am re-posting it, as this is the same exact problem I am having, right down to the OS and version of Acrobat. Could someone please explain to me what this means and whether or not I should be concerned about it? I will also get two different kinds of results... one is a single number effective ppi on this error, such as 199, (which results in 200ppi if run through PitStop), and a two-number effective ppi, which we haven't been able to decipher, such as 501.357/179.55ppi (which should be a hi-resolution image).

> All text should export as vector, since it's all on a layer above any kind of image.
Is there any transparency in the text, though? If you float text over
an image with transparency, it MUST be exported as an image. If it is
floated over vector art with transparency, it MIGHT.
It's easy to assume that just because something is on top, it doesn't
ever need to be flattened. This is not in fact true.
>
>I am a little concerned: is this a flaw in the Acrobat Program?
You mean in its preflight? Unlikely, it isn't rocket science to
calculate ppi, so the numbers are probably right.
>
>Where is this "Continuous tone image resolution" turned on/off? Why is it important?
That's probably a reference to Distiller settings. I think we've
established that you aren't using Distiller.
>
>Is InDesignCS2 flattening to low transparency settings, even though my settings dictate high?
You'd probably need to ask in the InDesign forum. But bear in mind
that the flattener is free to use lower resolution if it thinks that
is all that is needed for particular effects.
Maybe you could reopen the PDF in Illustrator, and use that to select
the images in the flattened page. Might illuminate what is going on.

  • Xorg.conf: can't configure resolution lower than 1152x864

    Hi,
I just installed Arch (base system + X11 + XFCE + handful of apps) on five computers in our public library. One of the machines has an ATI graphic card:
    [biblio@mediatheque1:~] $ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV280 [Radeon 9200 PRO] (rev 01)
Every machine has a 17'' flatscreen monitor. Usually, I configure xorg.conf to use a resolution of 1024x768. Some of the users here are older and often visually impaired, and I generally avoid using resolutions higher than this on this type of monitor. But I can't seem to configure it on my ATI card. Ah, yes: I'm using the open source xf86-video-ati driver. And here's the relevant bits from xorg.conf:
    Section "Screen"
    Identifier "Screen0"
    Device "Card0"
    Monitor "Monitor0"
    DefaultDepth 24
    SubSection "Display"
    Viewport 0 0
    Depth 24
    Modes "1152x864"
    EndSubSection
    EndSection
When I specify 1024x768 and restart X, the resolution won't change. So I leave it at that, since when I specify nothing, it looks like it want to default to something even higher, my guess is 1280x1024, which is barely legible on a 17'' monitor.
I had a similar problem on the other machines, using recent Intel cards. I found a workaround, in that I replaced the recent xf86-video-intel drivers by the older xf86-video-i810 driver. Only the latter seemed to accept the 1024x768 resolution.
    Any suggestions for this?

I'll answer this myself. After leafing through my logfiles, I found the following solution. Add this line to the Display SubSection:
    Virtual 1024 768

  • Widescreen resolutions LOWER than 1680x1050?

I have a MSI Geforce 7600 GS AGP 256mb graphic card and a Samsung 226BW monitor. My problem is, that I can't get any widescreen resolutions that are LOWER than the native 1680x1050. This is a problem, because I don't own the fastest machine (a 3ghz P4), so running games in the native resolution is impossible. Anybody who knows what to do here? Is it my graphic card that just doesn't support these resolutions, or is there something you can do about it?
I have updated my nvidia drivers, without any luck. I also tried to make all resolutions available, but this only gave me widescreen resolutions HIGHER than 1680x1050, which is no good...
    Anybody who can help?

    7600GS supports widescreen natively.
I think as far as gaming resolution is concern, the game should automatically refer the setting that the game is running.

  • Resolutions Lower Than Expected

    Hi folks.
I have a friend on an iMac whose resolutions in normal boot mode are very low. It isn't International Access, but the choices on her resolutions are low (1024 x 768 on a 20" iMac).
    I've zapped the PRAM, nothing.
I've had her boot up in safe mode, and everything goes back to normal (1920 x 1200).
I can't find the displays preferences in her ~/preferences/ folder.
Any ideas how to fix this?
    Cheers

I assume she has set her display resolution at 1920 X 1200 in Systems Preferences after clicking on "Display?"

  • Photoshop is consistently printing my images slightly larger than specified?

Photoshop CS6 on an iMac with OS 10.9.5 printing to an Epson 7900.
Epson say that its not a printer issue. Anyone know where I should be looking to resolve this issue?

"Scale to fit media" should not be checked.
If your printer is printing properly on apps outside Photoshop, usually a reset of Preferences will fix it.
Hold down cmd-opt-shift and start Photoshop, agree to the reset.

  • Low image resolution in ipad

I had the new iPad for 3 months now but recently when emailing photos taken with the iPad to friends has been changed from 1936x2592 to 240x320. I couldn't find any settings to change the image resolutions. I am not sure why the resolution is being compress while emailing to people.

    Thanks for your reply
The issue is the pictures (e.g. employee photos) are saved in Database as BLOB data type.
The report is loading employee photo into the report (e.g. employee card), but the loaded picture is coming up with much less quality than the original.

  • EXS24 loading samples become one semi tone lower than assigned key

When I load samples into a new instrument as a zone by dragging them to a key, somehow they become assigned to the adjacent key, one semi tone lower than the note. Eg: I put a sample on C2, when I hit the keyboard it is tiggered by B1. How to resolve this ? Is there a setting somewhere ? It certainly does not appear to have any thing to do with my 'mother' keyboard (M-Audio Ozonic).
Thanks for any insight into this issue

  • Big Problem with Directx 11 and Games scaling when lower than native resolution

    Hi Guys,
MY system is Windows 7 Home Premium (Korean version), and I have dual GPUs, Nvidia Geforce GT 630m for gaming, and Intel HD Graphics 4000 for all other display matters.  My native resolution is 1920 x 1080.
This problem wasn't there couple of years back, but from 2~3 years ago, when I play recent games that require/favour directx 11 (such as Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag, Batman: Arkham Origins), it seems when I use lower than native resolution (such as 1280
x 720) and select fullscreen, giant ugly black borders always appear around the game, and the game does not fill the whole screen.
I thought this was something which could be fixed in my GPU's control panel, but there was no scale fullscreen option under Nvidia's control panel.  So I went into Intel HD Graphics control panel, but there was no Scale fullscreen option there either (under
native resolution.  With lower resolution there was).
Anyway, after months and months of searching, I finally found an Intel forum which was discussing the same situation:
    https://communities.intel.com/thread/44539
While going through the forum, I found out from other users that problem is not with GPU's drivers, but with Directx 11.
To test this theory, I put Batman: Arkham Origins in Force Directx 9 mode, and changed the game resolution to 1280x720.  And the game showed no black borders, it scaled up perfectly to fullscreen under Directx 9 (so no problem whatsoever under directx
9).  I changed the setting to Directx 11, and the ugly black borders appeared again.
Could someone please help with this?  I know I can change my screen's resolution every time I play the game, but it's a real nuisance to do that.  And more games are utilising Directx 11 or higher, and I don't think there are many games where I can
force Directx 9 mode like I did for Arkham Origins.
Or if someone connected could contact the people working on Directx 11 and ask about this issue (and get them to contact me through my email below), that would be much appreciated.
    my email:
    [email protected]
p.s. : all my GPU drivers are currently up to date, and the black borders issue is still there

    Hello MeipoXu
While yes, at first people on the Intel forum thought it was the display driver problem (hence the question was originally posted on the Intel forum).  But if you look closely through the pages especially Pages 2 onwards, there are some very astute
    comments by some posters:
Update to black borders problem: The problem is DirectX11. Fx. Company of Heroes has a setting "Shader Quality" that when set to ULTRA it will run directX11 and when set below ULTRA it will run directX9. So the intel graphics driver is not
responsible! It is Microsofts DirectX11 that does it - maybe only to computers with both Intel HD and a second graphics card for video games
Different workarounds to the black border problem:
    Change resolution before running fullscreen
    Use directX9 instead of directX11
Fx. in CoH2 there is a setting fx. 50% of resolution, so even in native resolution the graphics is only half and thus faster
    Try window mode without borders
    and here's also another:
I can confirm that this problem still seems to exist, and that it definitely seems to be related to DirectX 11.
In a variety of games, turning DirectX11 off (either in-game or using ini files in some games that don't present you with the choice) fixes the issue. But this is obviously not ideal.
I have a laptop with a native resolution of 1920x1080, but tend to run games at 1280x720 because it provides much better performance on my HD 4400 graphics chip. This bug and the memory leak issue on Windows 8.1 are extremely annoying.
Like the first poster, my PC has intel HD GPU, and a second graphics card for games (Nvidia).
And all the members have mentioned that they updated the intel graphics driver, but it does not fix it - so it doesn't seem like a graphics driver problem (and more to do with Directx 11).
And they are right.  With Batman Arkham Origins, if I set the resolution to 1366 x 768 and apply fullscreen, under Directx 11, ugly black borders appears.  Luckily Arkham Origins has "Force Directx 9 mode" which I use, but a lot of games
don't have this mode (such as ACIV Black Flag, Watch Dogs, Sleeping Dogs etc) - you either play in ugly black borders, or can't play the game at all.
And all my Graphics Drivers are currently up-to-date, and issue still exists, so I don't think it's the driver problem.
I have already tried that registry method you just mentioned.  It didn't work.
As for Directx 12, well I just hope it works better than Directx 11 (with its ugly black borders in games) does, and works well like Directx9 (with no problem in scaling).

  • Iphoto says that my image resolution is to low?

Iphoto says that my image resolution is to low, but my resolution is fine at 800 x 800 at 300 dpi... is this still to low....?
    Emac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    alex333:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Too low for what? Is this for a print, book, calendar?
The resolution iPhoto is requiring is shown in iPhoto: Minimum Picture Resolution For Ordering Quality Prints. Basically the important number is the number of pixels in the length and width, dpi aside.
    So your image is 800 x 800 pixels. A 4" x 4" picture would give you 200 dpi. For a 6 x 6" picture that would drop down to 150 dpi, etc.

  • Image Resolution Question 150dpi vs 300dpi in Final Layout

In the final offset color printing of a file, does it make a difference if the images in the document are 150 dpi or 300 dpi? I know they shouldn't be less than 150, but does making them higher dpi make them really better? Or does it just make the file larger? If you think it does make the image better, please let me know why. I'd be particulary interested to hear from someone who works with a printing house. Or if there is something on Adobe's website addressing this issue, please add the link.
    Thank you,
    Marilyn

Yes, it does make a difference.
These numbers do not come out of the blue. A typical laser photosetter has an output resolution of 2400 dpi [*]. Each of the halftone dots that make up halftone images can be one of 256 values of gray (a hardcoded PostScript limitation). That would make the absolute minimum size of each dot 16 x 16 output pixels. 2400 divided by 16 is 150, hence, you can fit 150 complete halftone dots across an inch.
However, the calculated position of the halftone dots does not take the actual photosetter halftone position in account (your image may not start at exactly the internal start of a halftone dot). Each of your single dots may be broken into two because they may not be "aligned" with the dots the output device produces. So, on every relatively sharp color boundary of two input pixels (which are output as exactly 2 output halftone dots), the color of this dot will be rounded to both the left and right input pixel (and upper and lower one).
Doubling the input resolution means than more than a single input pixel is taken into account per halftone dot (of which at least one will be entirely inside the dot), smoothing things out.
There is also an upper limit on which it will not matter anymore whether you throw in more input pixels per halftone dot -- the typical upper useful value used by InDesign and Distiller is 450 dpi -- images above this are downsampled to 300 dpi, so (apparently) the difference between 300 and 450 dpi is neglectable.
[*] Modern machines may advertise a higher resolution, even upwards of 3000 dpi, but it's at the operators discretion to switch back to a lower rez to save time and memory -- and no skilled operator will (or should) go below 2400 dpi for halftone images.

  • Poor displayed image resolution?

I've just started using FormsCentral I've inserted an image created in PhotoShop and saved both as a jpg (600dpi) and as a png. But the displayed image resolution (in FormsCentral preview) for either format is terrible. What have I done wrong?

If the space the image is placed in is smaller then the image size then our servers scale it down to fit. The best thing to do is make sure the image is not wider than the page and not taller than the space. Also save it at a lower web dpi so we don't reprocess it on the server.
    Hope that works for you.

  • Windows 7's Infection Rates Five Times Lower Than Windows XP

"Windows 7's marketshare continues to grow at a steady pace at the expense of its two older siblings, Windows Vista and XP, according to the data from StatCounter. In terms of global usage, Windows XP is at 46.44%, Windows Vista at 12.5%, and Windows 7 at 32.64%. Good news for everyone, right? Well, if these adoption numbers aren't convincing enough, perhaps this might convince you (or your technologically challenged peers) - Windows 7 has the lowest infection rates per quarter amongst Microsoft's currently supported operating systems."

  • Exchange 2013 - The Microsoft Exchange Transport service is rejecting message submissions because the service continues to consume more memory than the configured threshold

Noticed at about noon that no emails had been received all day. Began to investigate and found that the MS Exchange Transport service had been set to deny email submission because it was using too much memory on the server (91%).
The error message makes me think that we may have been getting used by malware or something similar.“The Microsoft Exchange Transport service is rejecting message submissions because the service continues to consume more memory than the
    configured threshold.”
There are also several warning messages that list particular IP addresses and say that a connection from that IP was denied because there were already the maximum number of connections (20).
From what I can tell, all of the IP addresses are from Taiwan.
The time period for which some emails may be missing is from close of business yesterday ( 4/3/2014) through about 12:45 today (4/4/2014).
From the time I spent reading and trying to figure out the error, I think we may need to readjust our throttling policies to prevent this from happening.
The exchange server is currently running at 90%+ CPU and 50%+ memory usage the majority of the time, and I’m not sure how to fix it.
Also, I cannot get into EMS I get a access denied message from the destination computer. (Exchange server) I want to get into there to change the throttling policy back to default, since we disabled it.
    The Error reads:
The WinRM client cannot process the request. The WinRM client tried to use Kerberos authentication mechanism, but the destination computer <Exchange> returned an 'access denied' error. Change the configuration to allow Kerberos authentication
mechanism to be used or specify one of the authentication mechanism supported by the server. (How do I do this?) To use Kerberos, specify the local computer name as the remote destination. (I'm trying to use EMS while logged into the local Exchange server)
Also verify that the client computer and the destination computer are joined to a domain. (Exchange is on our domain, and the computer trying to connect is the same computer) To use basic, specify the local computer name as the remote destination, specify
Basic authentication and provide user mane and password. Possible authentication mechanisms reported by server.

    Recent changes to the system:
About three days ago we switch our sessions policy to allow many more connections, and I believe this caused the issue. This is what I changed it to:
Made the registry DWORD (32-bit) "Maximum Allowed Sessions Per User" and modified the value to 1000. Location of registry change @ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem
I just changed it to 10 from the 1000. I'm hoping this solves this. So far no.
Also, I am not the best in the shell or command line interfaces. Any help would be wonderful!

    Hi,
Yes, could be hardware performance issue. Try recycle the Transport process and see if the issue persists.
