Continuously Dropping WiFi and I'm Angry!

I have a Razr Maxx and run everything stock and updated (4.1.2; 98.72.16.xt912.verizon.en.us) and have had the same issue as many regarding my phone dropping my Wi-Fi connection ALL THE TIME after the Jelly Bean update.  I spoke with VZW Tech support last night - he couldn't help me so he transferred me to Motorola support.  Tier one couldn't help me so I got tier 2.  THEY COULDN'T help me either!  My router is a new Belkin N750DB and everyone agreed that it's not the issue.  Hard reset of my phone, different broadcast channels with the router, everything and no help.  What's VZW going to do to fix this?????

There has been a written so called fix to use 5G on the router versus the 2.4 G band. However only certain newer routers have this ability. See if your new router has the new 5G band.
Good Luck

  • My ipad 2 (ios 6.1.2) continuously drops wifi and every few minutes, i receive tha black scrren with the apple... Any ideas on resolving?  It is VERY frustrating!   If it helps, wifi is connected to our secured home internet.

Help......every few mins my wifi disconnects AND i rec the black display with the apple.... Any ideas to resolve?  I am connected to secured home internet and have not connected to cellular svc.

    Try #5.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

my problem is the dropping of wired and wifi and low speeds i have done all what i can think of ie, master socket line test (quiet test) no noise on line, turn of smart setup, channel changing and all to no avail i have the latest firmware update for my BTHub5a dual wifi not synced this happens at different times of the day done speed tests sometimes no server and did not complete, at my wits end, thinking of canceling as they are not providing a service i signed up for, sent email to watchdog this morning and i am making a complaining to ofcom,  regards picktech thank in advance for any help

You can try fixing wireless problems by turning off Smart Wireless and splitting the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. To do this:
    1. Go into your advanced settings on the HH5 and select the wireless tab.
    2. Then select the 5GHz tab and select NO to "Sync with 2.4 GHz:".
    3. Then choose a new SSID by adding "5" to the existing one, so you can tell the difference between 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.
    4. While you're there change "Channel selection:" from "Smart wireless" to the current channel.
    5. Then press the "Apply" button.
    6. Then choose the 2.4GHz tab and change "Channel selection:" from "Smart wireless" to the current channel on 2.4GHz.
    7. Then press the "Apply" button again.
Now on your devices you can select which SSID (which band, 2.4GHz or 5GHz) to connect to.

  • How do i prevent the ipad from dropping wifi and tethering?

I can tether my iphone 5 and ipad but when not in use the connection gets terminated and i have to do the tethering process all over again. The same thing happens with Softbank wifi hotspots, I have to re-enter username and password everytime I open the iPad.
At home the wifi connection remains stable no matter what. Why is it only tethering and wifi hotspots?

YOu could try 'settings, wifi' and turn 'ask to join networks' on and see if that limits it's push to automatically join the other network.

  • My iphone5s continually drops calls and has very poor sound for callers sooo disappointed compared with iPhone 4 from which I've just upgrade

I am so disappointed as my iPhone 5 s is very poor for calls and repeatedly drops calls. I've contacted Orange and done a reset to factory settings with no improvement. These calls are to landlines. My iphone4 was excellent in comparison . I've requested an Apple support call tomorrow - any other suggestions  or similar experiences? Call bars are much lower too on this new phone and wifi fails too with frequent fail to connect to server messages. I so regret having this phone..

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.
turning of locator and the push notifications from facebook--they have a lot!

  • WRT160Nv3 drops WiFi and Hardwired connections simultaneously

I've been using the WRT160N for about 4-5 months now. I'm running the most up-to-date firmware available for the router. I haven't had any real issues with it's performance until recently. The router handles PPPoE and usually only has two computers connected at a time, at most five. I use it for browsing, streaming, and gaming.
About a week ago I found that my router had completely reset itself while I was at work. No one had been at the house, so I know that it wasn't tampered with. Everything was set to factory, and it was broadcasting it's SSID as Linksys, which I find odd because I thought the factory default didn't automatically have SSID checked, I could be wrong.
So, I set it up to the way it was before the incident, roughly, and it now works for every machine again (running XP, OS 10.7, Vista, Windows 7), but while I'm gaming the router will halt after about 4 minutes, all of the lights that are used to indicate traffic over ethernet light up, solid, stay lit for about 5 seconds, and then start flickering again.
The odd thing is, that I don't lose connection with my ISP when this happens. I'm still connected, I know this because my IP is the same after this happens as it was it was before.
Also, this happens with WiFi connections and wired connections, it doesn't matter. The only thing I can think of is it overheating, because it gets warm.
    Here are my current settings:
    Basic>
    PPPoE
    Wireless>
    Manual
    B-G Mixed
    20Mhz Only (bg)
    Channel 11
    SSID enabled
    Wireless>Security
    WPA Personal
    Wireless>Advanced
Beacon Interval : 75 (if set to default my XP machines won't find the network)
    Fragmentation Threshold: 2304
    RTS Threshold: 2304
    Security>
    Filter Anonymous Requests: Disabled
    Admin>Log>
    Enabled as of yesterday
It says the Firmware is "3.0.02 Build 003" and I think last I looked it was at build 8, if that's the case, I'll update it after posting this.
    Thanks.

I have reinstalled the current firmware, same problem, though I have made some more observations...
When my router resets itself, or when the lights come on solid, it will drop the connection for the wired computer, not just the internet, the local network. Windows acts like there's nothing connected to the computer. The computer using WiFi will show a signal drop, and I cannot connect to the router in that time, but it doesn't drop the WiFi connection completely, all of the time. That may be more related to the computer harware, the OS, or connection type than the actual router itself.
The router is cunnetly suspended in front of a pretty big fan, and still it drops a connection any time you want to do anything that requires constant bandwidth. I'm going to continue messing with it, but it's starting to seem like a lost cause.
    Thanks again.

  • IMac Continually Dropping WiFi Connectivity

Due to appalling wired "broadband" where I am, I have to connect by tethering an iPhone 5 over an HSDPA cellular connection. That's all fine.
The trouble is that my late 2012 27" i7 iMac keeps losing connectivity although it continues to be - apparently - connected to the iPhone. Symptoms include no Internet connectivity, dropped connections to the Apple TV, etc.
None of my other equipment is affected, so it's not an overall connectivity issue, just with the iMac.
Is this a widely known problem?

Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Take all the applicable steps in this support article. If you're running OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and take the remedial steps suggested in the summary that appears, if any. The program also generates a large file of information about your system, which would be used by Apple Engineering in case of a support incident. Don't post the contents here.
    Step 2
Run Software Update and install all available updates for OS X or your computer's firmware.
    Step 3
If you're not using a wireless keyboard or trackpad, disable Bluetooth by selecting Turn Bluetooth Off from the menu with the Bluetooth icon. If you don't have that menu, open the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences and check the box marked Show Bluetooth in menu bar. Test. Continue if you find that Wi-Fi is faster with Bluetooth disabled.
From that same menu, select Open Bluetooth Preferences. If the box labeled Discoverable is checked, uncheck it. Click the Advanced button, and in the sheet that opens, uncheck the top three boxes, if any are checked. Click OK. Enable Bluetooth and test again.
If the application called "Bluetooth Setup Assistant" is running, quit it. Note: this is not applicable to OS X 10.9 or later.
    Step 4
This step will erase some of your settings in the Network preference pane. Make a note of them before you begin, and recreate them afterwards. It may be helpful to take screenshots of the preference pane.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.airport.preferences.plist
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with "com.apple.airport.preferences.plist" selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Recreate your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
    Reset the System Management Controller.
    Step 6
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

  • My iPad2 is suddenly dropping wifi and bluetooth connections

It has been working for over a year without any issues.  There is a small dent on the corner which may be a result from being dropped.  Anyone know anything about the transmitter/receiver/antenna that I could look at?

  • Dropping WiFi Connections after new Mac Min and Upgrade

First of all does anyone know why this discussion was archived when there was never a solution posted?
        https://discussions.apple.com/message/12586041?tstart=0#12586041
Secondly (why I found that thread among many others addressing the same problem). I received a new Mac Mini for XMas (cool, I needed it) which worked fine with my other computer and devices (2 iPads, 2 iPhones, 2 Win7 Laptops and 2 Win7 desktops) for a couple days, so I thought. Now all these devices got along very well until Mr. Mini comes along. Then I note wireless drops occasionally, it seemed to come back so I wasn't too upset, yet and decided to deal with it later and enjoy my vacation.
Now, after I allowed Leopard to do its upgrade (I had deferred that) I now have all the above devices dropping wifi and physical LAN connections as long as this Mini is powered on. I shut it off, Internet is blazing, I turn it on, Internet falters and screeches to a halt.
Since all my other devices have worked cooperatively for several years and this device comes along and crashed the party im pretty convinced its not my router or computers. I am not interested in trial and error here. i have many better more important things to do and this is Apples responsability to figure out. I am a very savy IT dude (career professional) and want to get to the bottom of this for everyone.
Soooo.... What changed? Why does this device kill my network when it is turned on (note, no alterations from out-of-the box to any network protocol or config.) and why does a thread (one of many) without a solution get trumped on by Apple?
    Apple?

  • WiFi Dropping On and Off

I got my 3g iPhone over the weekend, and have had trouble staying connected to WiFi networks. I've tested on three different WiFi networks and had the same results:
    1. iPhone takes awhile (maybe a minute or so) to find the network in order to sign on initially.
    2. iPhone often does not show full strength on the WiFi signal indicator, even when I am within 5-10 feet of the wireless router, with nothing between iPhone and router.
    3. iPhone will lose WiFi connection within 1-3 minutes, and periodically pick it up again, dropping on and off with no perceivable rhyme or reason. This happens at very close distances to the router, and farther away (25-50ft.), and it happens without moving the iPhone...sitting on a table or desk, it will just drop WiFi and pick it up.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

    Trey Miller wrote:
I am open to changing the channel on the wireless network, but given the zero-distance scenario above, >isn't it safe to rule out interference?
No. The devices described in the article above can still cause interference.
Is there any chance this is an iPhone hardware issue? If so, what are my potential remedies, given that I >bought it less >than a week ago? It seems unlikely to me, but I hate beating my head against the wall >unnecessarily.
This does not sound like a hardware issue with the iPhone but, if you believe it is, you can make a reservation to see a Mac Genius. The Mac Genius can take a look at the iPhone and test it with the open Wi-Fi network at the Apple retail store.
    http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
I recommend restoring the iPhone to rule out software issues.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305744
Make sure the wireless router has the latest firmware updates available. Also, try to hard reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

  • TS1398 why does iPhone 5 keep on dropping wifi connection?

I went to the apple store today and have received a *new* iPhone 5 to replace my faulty iPhone 5. my previous phone kept on either not detecting wifi, being unable to connect or continually dropping wifi signal despite being in range. replacement appears to be behaving exactly the same. I have an iPad, and two iPhone 3 that have no issues at all with the same wifi access points. can anybody offer any advice on why wifi is so poor on iPhone 5? thanks.

I have tried resetting everything and it makes no difference. Problem is same in different locations. Apple store verified problem which is why they exchanged phone for new model but wifi is still poor and drops frequently even though the iPhone 3GS in the family work perfectly on same access points.

  • Wifi and iphone

if i am on a wifi network using the internet, if someone tries to call me will my iphone just drop wifi and will the call still go through?

When connected to the internet via an available wi-fi network, you can receive calls while actively accessing the internet. During a call when connected to an available wi-fi network, you can access the internet if needed. It isn't possible to do the same with a first generation iPhone while actively accessing the internet via the cellular network.
This is possible with an iPhone 3G when connected to the 3G network in addition to being able to do the same when connected to an available wi-fi network.
