Continuously unanswered importing question/consolidating library

I have seen this questions asked multiple times with no answer. Does anyone know how to have Itunes scan library for other music. Also when using the consolidating library feature which "can't be undone" does it convert all your MP3 to proprietary Itune files?
Please help I have been all over this website and the ipod manual!!!!

"when using the consolidating library feature which "can't be undone" does it convert all your MP3 to proprietary Itune files?"
Cnsolidation does not convert songs. When you consolidate, any files in the iTunes Library that are not in the iTunes Music Folder will be copied to the Music Folder and the Library will be updated to point at those new files. Files already in the iTunes Music Folder have no changes made to them.

  • Questions about consolidating Library

Please answer any of the three questions you can.
So here is my dilema, my files are all named weirdly due to downloading from amazon, walmart and other sources. Their data is all mixed up and some info is missing on the song file. I fixed all the files info in my itunes library and added album artwork but it doesn't fix it on the actual file. I know this cause when my iTunes completely messed up once and i had to reimport all my songs were back to being messed up. My question is...
1). Will consolidating my library also change the file names to match the info inside itunes and will it add/change in missing info such as "artist" or "album" in the actual file?
Also i have a problem with "change". I get used to something and if it changes too muuch and i have a hard time getting used to it i get really frustrated. My second question is...
2). Can consolidating be undone? I know it can't be undone officially but what if i were to export my itunes library, consolidate, and then if i don't like it, just import the old library file and use the original folder and organization if i don't delete it?
The most important part for me is the song information. I want it to be embeded into the file the way i have it in itunes so it works for media center and other programs...
3). Is there a 3rd party program for this that is easy to instal and doesn't take up a lot of space and is easy to remove?
    Thanks.

Wow, i'm an idiot. Ok, i always do the get info thing and change it. For some reason i never noticed it actually changed the file properties. Although when my library crashed a lot of them were messed up again.
Honestly, i don't need to consolidate because all my music is in one place. My only thing was that i read or possibly misread that it fixes filenames. A lot of the filenames on my amazon songs and others are named weirdly like "03-_Sexy_*****_(FeaturingAkonexplicit)" When i wish it were just "Sexy ***** - David Guetta". Meh, not too important.
    One last question then:
Is there a way to get the album art to embed itself into the file? I've noticed some of my songs have album art inhe file itself but for others i know that it's only in itunes. (unless i missedd that detail as well) When my library crashed i lost A LOT of album art that took me a very long time to find in the first place.

  • Simple Library Import question

I have a simple question pertaining to importing. I am used to iPhoto where you import all pictures into your "Library" folder. However in Aperture I find that I can import into the "Library" (which in turn also puts the picture in a "Project") and also import directly into a Project which sometimes doesn't seem to include the pictures in the Library.
My confusion is what is the point of Library then if you can import into a project? (or have I done something wrong during an import?)
    Thanks in advance!

An image is always in exactly one project. All the images in all projects are in the library. (Folders and albums are a little more complicated, holding pointers to images, not images.)
Highlighting "Library" in the projects panel doesn't show anything (usually). If you highlight the All Images blue Smart Album under Library, it will show all the images in all projects. If that doesn't seem to be the case, it's probably because you're filtering images. Select "Show All" in the search box at the upper right corner of the Browser. It's easy to forget this, and panic because all or most of your images seem to have disappeared.

  • Photo Stream import directly into Library (consolidated)?

I have just started using Photo Stream with Aperture and it's a wonderful feature, however something prompted me to look for the original photo and I couldn't see the usual "Open in Finder" option, which said to me it was Consolodated. Now, I don't mind, because I Consolidate my Library anyway, but was wondering if this actually happened.
It seems that the guide here is a little out of date now as Adjustments can be performed on the streamed photos without "importing" them, however that's achieved?
    ref: http://www.tuaw.com/2011/11/06/deep-dive-aperture-and-photo-stream-how-do-they-w ork/
I was able to export the photo, as one normally would with a Consolidated Library, but I am wondering if that was from an online supposerty or not?
Anyway, if the Photos are Consolidated then that is yet another step taken care of and I am certainly greatful for that, not least because all iOS devices capture GPS info too, things just get better!
If someone can clear this up for me that would be great, thanks.

The confusion is due to your use of Photo Stream image : When you (auto)-import from the Photo Stream you have two different image versions -  the Photo Stream copy of the image and the imported image, that is no longer in the stream.  And as Frank Caggiano says, you can only edit the imported image version in your Aperture library, not the Photo Stream image. Trying to edit a Photo Stream image will result in this message - at least, that is what I see in my library:
"This photo is in Photo Stream and cannot be edited. You may edit the last imported version in your library."
A photo Stream image is not part of the Aperture library - it can only be browsed using Aperture.
To convince yourself, that the imported image is truely managed and not referenced, select the monthly imported project and set a filter in the search field with the rule: "File status is managed".
All images in the project should still be showing and not be removed by the filter.
Frank Caggiano I think you're confused. The images are in the Stream, they are always there, but they appear (as in William Lloyd's photo example) in Aperture, yes I do have them set to be imported, but they very well couldn't be seen within Aperture unless I did so.
It is still not clear from your post, where you are trying to view the Photo images:
In the "Web > Photo Stream"  section of the library inspector, where the Photo Stream can be viewed,
Or in the "Projects" section, where you can browse the images that have been imported to Aperture.
Are you saying, that the "Web > Photo Stream" section of the Library Inspector did not show your Photo Stream images, until you enabled automatic import?

Sounds like a total bummer, dude. If you're trying to import the iTunes Library.itl file, you can't do that the way you're trying to. Try this out and see if this helps you out:
    1) Hold Shift when you open iTunes.
    2) You should be prompted to choose iTunes library. Click "Choose iTunes Library..."
    3) Navigate to where your .itl file is stored on your external hard drive.
This should populate your library info in iTunes. Let me know how it works out for you!

  • Importing my iPhoto library into Aperture.  Best way to avoid duplicates?

    Hi,
I'm a new Mac user.  I have been in the very slow and tedious process of transferring my photos from my HP hard drive to my Mac.  I used iPhoto for a very brief time before purchasing Aperture 3.  (I've used photoshop for years.)  I haven't yet Imported or consolidated or whatever the correct term would be the iPhoto library into the Aperture library.  I've been avoiding it because I know there are some duplicates.  Mainly just a few "Events" from the last few weeks before starting using Aperture.  Now with the new update, it seems like it's a great time to get it all consolidated into an Aperture library that I can use in both iPhoto and Aperture.  What's the easiest way for me to proceed?  I'm sorry for my lack of proper Mac terms....I'm learning!
Thanks so much for your help!
    Christy

    Clear as mud??
If you want to see all your images - those now in your Aperture Library and those in your iPhoto Library- then you need to merge both Libraries into one Library - I'd import your iPhoto Library into the Aperture Library.
This combined Library will be compatible with both Applications.
To merge your iPhoto Library into the Aperture Library do the following:
Make a backup of your current iPhoto library (libraries)
Upgrade to iPhoto 9.3, if you have not already done so.
Open your iPhoto Library at least once in Photo 9.3 to upgrade the Library.
Unhide all hidden images. You cannot unhide them when viewing the Library in Aperture.
    Quit iPhoto.
If you have not already upgraded to Aperture 3.3, do it like this:
    Backup your current Aperture library.
Rebuild the Aperture Database using the Aperture Library First Aid Tools: Launch Aperture with the cmd-options-key combination (⌘⌥) firmly held down, then select  "Rebuild Database".
After rebuilding upgrade to Aperture 3.3 and launch Aperture to upgrade the Aperture Library.
With Aperture still open, double click your iPhoto Library. Aperture will prompt you, if you want to add or merge your iPhoto Library - choose "Merge". This will avoid importing duplicate images, as far as Aperture can tell that those are the same images - same filename.
You will have to weed out some duplicates yourself - this is best be done by sorting the images by capture date, then duplicate shots will appear side by side.
Post back, if you have more questions.

  • How do I import my photo library to iPhoto?

I recently got a new mac and a new iPhone, so I imported my photos from iphoto which was my old camera roll and transfered it to my new iPhone. On my iPhone I now have three albums, Camera Roll and Photo Library and another album that is the same as photo library. First can I delete photo library or the other album? Second my more important question, how do I import my photo library from my iphone to my new mac? Thanks

It has said this for about a month now and I would just hide iPhoto since I could not close it. I have not needed to turn off my computer until now. But now it is a problem because I can not upgrade my computer

  • How to import the old library of iPhoto in a new imac with aperture 3.4.4

Hi guys I'm a happy owner of a new 27-inch iMac. I previously had a G5 and I had my old iPhoto library on an external hard drive. Now I would like to import this Iphoto library in Aperture. I do not want to create duplicates and I would not want the photos to be saved on the internal hard disk but in my exterenal hard disk.
After importing the Iphoto library can I delete it from the external drive?
What procedure should I use to make this?
Thanks in advance for your help and answer!
    Alessandro

After importing the Iphoto library can I delete it from the external drive?
What procedure should I use to make this?
In addition to Terence Devlin's advice just a few words of caution, since merging and upgrading libraries will be a major reconstruction of the libraries - better be safe than sorry:
Check your available free disk space. Merging libraries will need temporarily plenty of additional disk space, more than the size of the library that will be imported.
Before upgrading your iPhoto library, check, if your backup of the iPhoto Library is current. Don't merge the libraries without having a current backup of both libraries - your Aperture library and your iPhoto library.
Merging and upgrading libraries is safest, if both libraries do not have any inconsistencies and permission issues. Run the "Library First Aid Tools" on both to repair the database and to repair the permissions, before you do anything else. To launch the "First Aid Tools" hold down the key combination ⌥⌘, while double clicking the library in question.
After you imported the upgraded iPhoto library into your Aperture library, as Terence Devlin explained, check the result of your import carefully, if it is complete. There may be referenced images, that fail to import, or images synced from Photo Stream, Facebook, or something. Do not delete your old iPhoto Library, until you are sure, that every image has been transferred correctly and can be opened and edited.

  • Trouble importing old photo library to iPhoto 06

I just updated to iLife/iPhoto 06. When importing old photo library which is 7-8,000 photos, I got 24,000 + images incl. images of computer icons, demo photos, images that look like pieces from web pages (headers, part of photos etc), 4-5 copies of my own photos, some look like they are "pixilated", which the original wasn't. Any idea of what happened and how to fix this, short of manually deleting each image that doesn't belong?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Terence,
Tks, I kind of suspected that. I'm new to Macs and more used to PCs, and by no means good at either system, so it sometimes gets confusing.
Anyway - Here's the list from the iPhoto Library folder - I did copy & paste, but it didn't paste in the same order it is listed in the iPhoto Library window. I guess it should all be there though.

By the way, here's another question, a bit off the current subject: Sometimes we have trouble playing video clips downloaded from our camera. Sometimes iPhoto will play the audio but no picture, sometimes the other way around, and there don't seem to be any common thread one way or the other. Recently a bunch of clips that used to play audio only "repaired themselves" and are not playing fine. But others are only playing video with no sound. Any idea of whats going on?
    Thanks

I understand what you mean - I too, would like to see some variability in the 'default'. Besides having a single default, I would step that up to a default that changes with genre and media: ie. I could see using a sax for Jazz; a microphone for a Podcast, etc.
I don't have the answer to your question yet, but I think I'm going to crack open the iTunes package to see what default images there are embedded in there.

I successfully synched photos from my mac book iphoto to my new iphone 5 (icloud did not do the job).  Now these photos appear on my phone in three places--iphoto app, last import, and photo library.  Does that mean that they take up three times the memory?  Will that affect iCloud?  Sorry for the end-user questions!!

HHi, thank you for the reply. I have checked my iPad and iPhone and neither has iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled. Turned off in both. Photostream is turned on.
i tried to sort it out  by dragging all the photos to Events on the Mac and then deleting them from iCloud - (left hand side of iPhoto under the section 'Shared'). the photos now show up in Events. I did force quit but the issue remains. The message reads ' photos are bing imported to the library. Please wait for import to complete.'
i can't empty iPhoto trash either. The message read "Delete error. Please wait for import to complete.'
WHen I was moving the photos to the Events I always had a message about duplicates - to the effect that the photos already existed, did I want to import them? I clicked on Yes, import all duplicates. But when it showed the images - duplicates side by side - one showed the photo and the other was blank.
I really don't know what to do! And I don't know how to handle my iOS devices. Is it to do with the large number of photos? Any help, advice appreciated.

  • Importing from iPhoto Library - referenced or managed?

I'm moving my entire iPhoto library into Aperture. Is it better to reference them in place (i.e. keep the iPhoto library where it is) or import them as managed files? What are the pros and cons of each? Thanks for your help.

The images in iPhoto are already saved to your internal drive. If you have a reason to continue to maintain an iPhoto library then there is no problem to keep them where they are. If you choose to import the images into Aperture you can if you choose move them off to an external drive and have them referenced. You could also have them managed by Aperture and if you do so, then the Vault will provide you backup for your masters (on an external drive). I continued to use iPhoto because my macbook wouldn't support Aperture and when returned home, I moved the images to Aperture. This problem has been solved by purchasing a Macbook Pro.
    Good luck,
    Jeff

  • Process steps on releasing activity and importing in consolidation of cms

    Hi All,
I have a question on consolidation in nwdi,I have develpment configurations trackname_dev and trackname_con. I imported trackname_dev and checked out(asked for activity ,so created the activity) and modified an ess DC and then checked in to DTR and activated so it got activated without errors, so the code from inactive workspace is pushed and merged to active workspace its fine till now., when i released the activity its in cms consolidation queue when i hit import the activity in queue what is happening now.
How the changes i made in trackname dev in active workspace of DTR are pushed to tracknamecon
so does it takes from trackname _dev in active workspace of DTR and pushes to inactive workspace of trackname _con andthen build in trackname _con workspace and activated so if again the activation passes the code goes to active workspace of DTR of trackname _cons from where assembly takes place.Am i right?
In simple words what is the process taking place when i hit release the activity and then hitting the import in consolidation queue of CMS?
I am asking this because my activation has no errors and Modified DC is good in green in trackname_D buildspace but when i hit import in the consolidation tab in cms after import the same DC in trackname_C its red as broken dc as it has compilation errors.
    Please give your valuable suggestions.
    Thanks,
    PKV.

    Hi,
I guess the problem is because of version/patch you maintained in DEV system is different when compared to Cons/Test system.
First step you need to do is just open the console of DEV & CONS check the SC versions and patch levels.
I think this might definetly resolve your issue.
    Regards,
    Anil.

  • Aperture won't import an Aperture library

I have Aperture updated and installed on my macbook pro and my iMac.  On vacation, I imported the photos to my MBP for review and editing.  I have done this many times in the past.  I can export the Projects or the Folder of my vacation pics to an Aperture library and can put it on the desktop of my iMac.  I cannot get Aperture to import this vacation library to add it to the main library on my iMac.
On my iMac, I selected "import library" (as I have done in the past) and it starts a process, calculating disk space and merging the libraries.  With about 3/4 of the progress bar filled, it fails and no images are brought over.
I can "Switch libraries" on my iMac and can view all of the photos in the vacation library.  The photos are there and the edits are present.  I just can't bring them over to the iMac library successfully.
Both systems are the most current version of OSX and there are no new updates available for Aperture on either my MBP or my iMac.
Anyone know how to get Aperture to import a library in the new version?  It looks like the new update of Aperture has a bug in it.

This has previously worked.  I used to do this after every vacation...  Shoot the photos, offload to my laptop, edit and delete, export the library, import the library to my iMac, done!
And that is how it is supposed to work.
Have you done any trouble shooting? Repaired and rebuild the libraries in question?
Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
If not, I'd start with the repair option, if necessary also rebuild the libraries.
Before rebuilding check, if you have a current backup.
What versions of MBP and iMac do you have? There has been at least one other thread with the similar problem on a MBP, and I wonder, if the problem only occurs on specific mac models.
Aperture wont import other aperture library files - no error message?
    Regards
    Léonie
