Contour Plug In For Illustrator

Hello everyone...
Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide. Perhaps there is a thread for this already. I apologize if that is the case.
I work for a manufacturing organization creating technical illustrations, instruction sheets, drilling templates, etc. We create isometric views of the product in a 3d manipulation software (IsoDraw), export the line art and import the line art into illustrator.
The software does a decent job creating the curves and fairly clean line art. However, when we need to create fills, we select the outermost paths, cut any extra off, use JETJoin (thanks JET...GREAT script!!) then fill what is then a closed path.
Is anyone aware of a plug-in or script that would allow us to just select the artwork then run the plug-in or script and it would find the contour, then create the closed path that we could use as a "fill"?
We are all on Windows XP Pro on Dell Precision laptops. However, a solution that could work on both Windows and Mac would be a real bonus.
Thank you all for your help!

Just a thought, but, have you tried using Live Paint?

  • 3rd Party Plug-ins for Illustrator

EskoArtwork has a Dynamic Barcode 3rd party plug-in for Illustrator that is listed on the Adobe wesbiste for Illustrator CS6.  I puchased it and downloaded it but during the install I get a message saying it can't find a compatible Adobe Illustrator installation on my computer (I have CS6 installed).  Upon reading the information on EskoArtwork's package, it says it is only compatible with CS4, CS5 and CS5.5.  Is there a way to get this to work with CS6?  If not, I would suggest Adobe take it off their list of Plug-In's for CS6.
Also - if it is not compatible, does anyone know of a similar plug-in that would generate and insert bar codes into packaging designs?
    Thanks!

You'll probably need to ask EskoArtwork about this.
In past versions, I've been able to move plugins from the plugin directory for the old version to the new version, and often it worked.  (YMMV, it depends on changes in the SDK.) You might try creating empty directories for a CS5 version number to see if the installer will work.

  • Download plug ins for illustrator

Everything was working fine and suddenly I don't have the required plug ins.  I don't know how they got erased. Do I have to reinstall the entire Adobe Creative Suite 6 Design & Web Premium?  Do I need to uninstall everything first?
    Thanks,
    Joanne

Run the cleaner tool and reinstall.
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Also make sure some system process is not running amok. Many times nothing gets actually erased but is being blocked by overzealous virus scanners or similar.

  • Any script palette plug ins for illustrator?

Does anyone know of a plugin that can be set up to launch scripts?  I've got many I use often and I'd like a floating palette I can just keep open to launch them from rather than having to setup actions everytime I launch illustrator.

I would not know, that stuff is out of my league… Im a hobbyist scripter not any kind of developer… Don't have the mindset or the time to get that involved… If I needed some thing like that then I just know where I would go…

  • Need Illustrator CS4 plug-in for export to HP PLT files

    Hi,
We encountered a problem with supplying the laser plotter with .PLT files (it's the only format plotter software takes). it seems that no CS4 application can export to .PLT format, why ? is there any plug-in for Illustraotr or Photoshop that we could use ?
Converting JPG/BMP rasters to vectorized PLT files with Corel is an option, but we want to avoid that unnecessary complication and eliminate Corel from the process.
    thanks.

Unless I'm misunderstanding the content, I'd much rather eliminate JPG/BMP from the process. If the original is vector content in AI, export as a vector format that Draw can open (earlier version .ai, or .dxf) and then export the HPGL from Draw.

  • Hi, Please tell me where to get plug in for cs5

Hello, the Adobe video shows going to view-and down to windows. In perspective drawing Terry White from Adobe opens that window and drags windows to his drawing. My CS5 does not have that and I called adobe and India told me it was a plug in and he could not tell me because it was a third party plug in. I went to adobe's plug in page and went through all of them and could not find it. Please help. Thank you very much.

You misunderstand what Mr. White was doing.
What he did was to create artwork of various window configurations, such a two pane window , a six pane, a single pane etc.
He arranged them on a page of a multi-page document, in this particular instance the document that had the finished art work.
He then focused in on that arrangement of windows and went to the View>New View and name it Windows as he did for all the other types of art
he use to compose the perspective composition.
He then was able to easily find where he had stored the art by going to the View>Windows, so he did not have to look at a complex canvas to find the art.
If you notice he then went back to the untitled document he created in the tutorial. He then pasted the select window he copied from the other document and used the perspective tool to apply it to the grid.
THere is no plug in it is art you can create yourself. Read about creating views.
Now I hope you understand this.
However if you do not want to make your own windows you can probably find pre-made windows art libraries but searching for architectural graphic symbols for Illustrator on google or yahoo.
If you want I will post a video so you can understand this better.
Here are a couple of screenshots
The menu with the windows view I created
Then it goes to the view

  • Is there a plug in for cutting vinyl

Does anyone cut vinyl from illustrator directly?  Trying to figure out if I can do that.

yes, this should work with illustrator and corel draw. you will have to
    play with it
but, you will probably have to save it as an illustrator 8 file. so vinyl
express will import it in, again you will have to play with this, and to my
    knowledge there is
no plug in for this software. Have a great day and good luck with this

  • PowerPoint plug in for InDesign?

I find myself, as I'm sure many folks do, frequently having to create presentations for PowerPoint users, even though my applications of choice are InDesign and Illustrator. Does anyone know of a plug-in for InDesign that will allow you to create a multi-page document and export it as an actual PowerPoint file (i.e., users can edit, revise, etc.)?
I know you can create a PDF that users could use like a PowerPoint deck, but they can't make changes to the text, move slides around, add content, bullet points, yadda, yadda...

If you need to create a PowerPoint file, then use PowerPoint. There's
really no good way to go from ID to PowerPoint.

  • Older equivalent of "AICS2-VBScriptGuide.pdf" for Illustrator 10?

(I asked this question a couple of days ago in the Illustrator Scripting forum but didn't connect with anyone there who could help. It's a question that fits both fora.)
It has fallen on me to update a departed developer's C++ code for Windows that uses the Visual Basic type library within the Illustrator 10 "ScriptingSupport.aip" plugin. I can see how to make calls from C++ to get Illustrator 10 to draw some graphs from dynamic data.
But the scripting syntax used by this existing C++ code, which works well in Illustrator 10, doesn't seem to work at all in Illustrator CS2. Certain functions present in the Illustrator 10 "ScriptingSupport.aip" type library seem to be entirely missing in the CS2 version of the same plug-in.
I can't find any documentation of the older "ScriptingSupport.aip" syntax to compare what the existing code is trying to do against the techniques I might use with CS2's syntax (for which I had no trouble finding documentattion, in the file "AICS2-VBScriptGuide.pdf").
Alas, the Illustrator Developer Center link for "Download archived Illustrator SDKs" takes me nowhere different than the page on which I selected it, and I've not found any relevant older information by searching the archives.
Can anyone help me find the older documentation?
    Thanks,

Following up for the record, the older equivalent of "AICS2-VBScriptGuide.pdf" for Illustrator 10 can be found on the Illustrator 10 product CD in "Illustrator Extras/Scripting/Documentation/Illustrator Scripting Guide.pdf" . In the same folder is a document with some VIsual Basic fixes, "Scripting Guide Errata.pdf". Thanks to those who helped me find this!

  • Dimension tool plugin necessary for Illustrator ?

    Hello,
unfortunatley my company bought CS4, but a few employees also sometimes need  to add dimensions to drawings similar like in CAD software for engineer drawings possible.
But it looks like that it is NOT working with Illustrator CS4. (although written in Wikipedia, that illustrator closes gap between CAD and pixel basing software.)
Is there any possibility to install plugin for Illustrator or is Illustrator having such tool ?
    Thanks for helping !
    Jan

I have an AI Javascript that I built for my own convenience, which creates simple linear dimension callouts, as described here.
It is dependendent upon two Graphic Styles and one Paragraph Style which can be added to your documents (or templates) by copying / pasting from the .ai file that is included in the download .zip. However...
It is little unbelievable that Adobe, eliminated dimension tool from Illustrator. Why ?
    Illustrator never had dimension tools.
although written in Wikipedia, that illustrator closes gap between CAD and pixel basing software
Whomever wrote that should be horse-whipped. (Or worse, forced to do techish commercial drawing with Illustrator in a roomful of others who are using either Canvas or CorelDraw.) That is probably the worst mis-characterization of what Illustrator is that I have ever heard.
Did my company buy the wrong software ?
Probably. If dimension tools and a few other very common features necessary for techish illustration are a frequent need, absolutely. Illustrator not only lacks ordinary dimension tools, it also lacks:
    Reliable snaps.
    User-defined drawing scales.
    Connector lines.
    Callout objects.
Live shape primitives (rectangles, polygons, ellipses, arcs) with geometric parameters (corner radii, etc.) that can be adjusted after creation.
Proper corner rounding / chamfering commands.
Any feature assist for mechanically corrrect perspective construction.
Is there any other software from adope, which is able to work on .jpg picture and using dimensioning, too ?
JPEG is just a lossy compression format for raster images. I don't know what it, in particular, would have to do with what you have described so far (using a mainstream drawing program to make attractive commercial illustration based on line work exported from CAD software).
But unlike most of its direct competitors these days, Illustrator does not provide any features (other than the ability to apply Photoshop filters) for actually editing raster images. It can import a raster image (JPEG or other) and manipulate it as an object (rotate it, scale it, mask it, etc.). But there are no pixel-editing features.
You have not very well described what your company's needs are. But just given your mention of dimension tools as being important and your need for something to "bridge" between working product drawings and commercial product illustration, I dare say you would be far better off with Canvas, Corel Draw, or Corel Designer.
Unlike its competitors, Illustrator has always treated anything the least bit "techish" as if it's something to fear. It's competitors embrace it as what it is: a huge segment of the overall mainstream commercial illustration world. And it isn't just this seeming "technical" vs. "paper doily" aversion. Much of it is simply the fact that Illustrator has never kept up with its competitors in straighforward, no-nonsense path drawing features. Illustrator has always sat too fat-and-lazy on its Adobe label for market share.
People (including myself) do technical/commercial illustration in Illustrator all the time. Most commerical product illustration is of that nature. But in doing so, they constantly employ tedious, cumbersome, and time-wasteful workarounds for the pathetically weak feature set of Illustrator--or they buy add-ons which cost half what they paid for Illustrator all over again. (I've never understood that mindset. No matter how well-done the plug-in, it's never as cleanly-integrated with the overall program as built-in features; and you have to put up with everything that goes along with mission-critical dependency upon add-ons from small third-party providers.)

  • How to install TWAIN plug-in for Adobe Photoshop CS5

Adobe Photoshop CS4 listed my Epson Perfection V500 scanner as a selection under “File-Import”. When I installed Adobe Photoshop CS5, I noticed that scanner selection is not there. I contacted Epson technical support and they said Adobe Photoshop CS5 does not automatically install the TWAIN plug-in that it needs to recognize the scanner and that I need to contact Adobe technical support to find out how to add it.
How do I install the TWAIN plug-in for Adobe Photoshop CS5 so it will recognize my Epson Perfection V500 scanner as a selection under “File-Import”?
Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

    Thanks for your response.
I downloaded the "Photoshop CS5 Optional Plugins" file (PSCS5OptionalPlugins_Win_en_US.zip). I unzipped it and read the "ReadMeCS5_OptionalPlugin.pdf" file. In that file, the only section that discusses TWAIN is entitled "TWAIN (Mac only)". There is no section for how to install TWAIN for Windows.
How do I install the TWAIN plug-in for Windows?

  • How to Install Plug-in for PS cs5 to open RAW (.NEF) file for Nikon D810 Camera

I need someone to walk me through how to install a Plug-in for PS cs5 to open RAW (.NEF) file for Nikon D810 Camera.
I haven't used photoshop in ages and I got a new camera. I have been on the phone with Adobe (no help) and spent a couple of hours online trying to figure this out. I'm confused, frustrated and about to throw my computer out the window.
Also, I placed this in the "Photoshop for Beginners" since Photoshop CS5 doesn't appear anymore. I know CS5 is outdated but I spent hundreds of dollars on this program and you would think adobe would still honor its product.
    Any guidance is much appreciated.
    AJ

Odds are cs5 is too old. If you do a search on my the main Adobe website there is a list of compatible cameras for the last known update to camera raw for cs5.
Each version of Photoshop only gets so many updates for camera raw then it is necessary to upgrade Photoshop to get the next update for camera raw.
So you currently have 4 choices.
    1 upgrade Photoshop
2 get Lightroom - latest version
3 get Photoshop elements -latest version
4 get dng converter - this will download the latest version an is the only option that is free.
The dng converter can be found by searching Adobe website.
