Contour shuttle Xpress - Logic 8 scrub issues.....

Hi all,
just setting up my contour shuttle xpress to use logic 8. (made new profile and assigned all the buttons to what i want them.)
I cant seem to get the scrub knob to work properly:
I have assigned the scrub forward and backward to key commands in logic, then to the scrub wheel in the shuttle's software. However i cant get it to go faster the more i turn the knob....
all i want is for the sprung loaded wheel to fastforward/backward (while playing sound) and the speed depends on how far around the knob is turned!
any help?
thanks, Olly.

  • Shuttle Xpress Black

Does anybody here have any experience(s) - positive or negative - with this jog/shuttle control:
           http://www.amazon.com/Contour-Design-00496-0-Shuttle-Xpress/dp/B0032Y0OH0/ref=sr _1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1306108406&sr=8-3
    Under Final Cut?

A a few eons ago, I had an ol' VHS VCR with "editing features" built-in.  (Not very extensive editing, but heck, it was just an early-1990s consumer-grade critter.)  It did have good controls for those editing features, however.
The controls relevant to positioning consisted of two concentric knobs:  An inner one looked like the wheel I see in the picture of this "Shuttle Xpress" device.  The outer knob was a wheel around/below that one.
The outer knob was lightly sprung to center, and it was "derivative" control:  That is, it adjusted the speed of playback, forward or backward, at pretty fine resolution.  If you let go of it, it sprung back to center, thereby freezing playback.
The inner knob was a "proportional" control - you turn it a few degrees clockwise and it advances to the next frame, turn it another few degrees, it goes to the next frame.  Turn it counterclockwise a few degrees and it goes back a frame, another few degrees counterclockwise and it goes back another frame.
I would think that sort of a thing would map nicely to the FCP Canvas' thumb-wheel on the left, and the forward/backward speed control on the right - the former of course being like the inner knob described above, and the latter being the ourter knob.
Do you (or anybody else out there) know of a USB controller of that nature?

  • Scrubbing Issues with 6.01

Set-up:  Blackmagic Intensity Pro; Quadro FX 3800:  Dell Precision T3500: 12Gb Ram:  Contour Shuttle Pro:  3 x Dell U2410 monitors.  Latest drivers.
    Assets:  XDCam EX MP4
In the timeline, when advancing forward (or reversing) by keeping the right (left) direction key pressed, the playhead and the image in the Program / External monitors jump in both directions eratically, gradually stuttering forwards.
This behaviour is also present when dragging the mouse through the timeline and when using the Contour Shuttle Pro (as it uses the same keystroke as its template), either as a single frame advance or rapid shuttle.
This does not happen with material in the Source Monitor - all behaves as it should .
This behaviour did not happen with 6.00.
I have disabled the BMIP player and Hardware Mercury Playback; no change.
Any suggestions would be appreicated.  Thanks.
*** I have also noticed that when I stop scrubbing - using any of the above methods - the audio levels in the meters remain frozen for about 2 seconds before dropping back.  Returning to their normal position is instant when stopping normal playback.
I have created a new project and imported XDCAM assets, in case my current project has become corrupted.  It happens in the new project too.

Okay, I'm wrong - I apologise for casting aspersions on the wondrous 6.01.
This behaviour is now present on 6.00 with and without Blackmagic drivers.
I cannot understand what's happening.  It's not a new camera; neither are the PC and laptop.  I've just finished a long edit session with assets from the same camera on 6.00 on the laptop and PC - and this behaviour wasn't present.
On the laptop, it's almost as if there is a flash frame at the point of judder!
    Very strange indeed.

  • Logic Remote connectivity issues after updating to iOS 8 (solved!)

Has anyone else has been experiencing connectivity issues with Logic Remote after updating to iOS 8?
After updating to iOS 8 I could no longer connect so I sent a feedback report to Apple and got a response that cleared up my problem immediately:
Navigate to the following directory on your desktop system running GarageBand:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10/Data/Library/Preferences/
You can quickly navigate there using the “Go” menu in Finder -> Go To Folder (shift-command-G), then copy this path:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.garageband10/Data/Library/Preferences/
In the Preferences folder should be a file named "com.apple.garageband10.cs”.
Make sure GarageBand is not running and delete the  "com.apple.garageband10.cs” file.
Relaunch GarageBand and see if you should now be able to connect.
The same can be done for Logic by navigating to:
    ~/Library/Preferences/
And deleting "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" and restarting Logic.
Note that doing this will fix Logic Remote connectivity issues (and possibly other problems with latency and mixer functionality)  but will also delete any other Controller settings that you've configured with Logic, if you happen to be using another controller of some sort.

Thanks very much!  This solved my connection problem.

  • Contour shuttle express_fcp controller

does anyone know how to set up the contour shuttle express to control the jog controll & shuttle control in fcp
or how to control the jog & shuttle via logitech mx revolution

    Hi
If I google "contour shuttle express fcp"
then i get this [PDF|http://www.tomeso.de/data/tomeso/media/doc/FinalCutReadMe.pdf] as the first hit.
    Doesn't that work for you?
Then maybe you could phrase your question some more descriptive...

never looked for a 'ready-made' set-up, but made my own one..
    Uploaded with Skitch!
    • launch the ShuttlePro Preference (on my Mac, there's a tiny icon in the menu-bar/'Shuttle Setting'.
    • create a New one
    • now apply your 'commands', e.g. turning the jog-wheel to the right = 'cursor right, 1 step' ..
    • repeat for other keys and commands ..
iMovie doesn't offer as much key-combos as a professional editor as FC/e ..

  • Logical Standby working issues Oracle 9i, Windows

    Hi,
Set up Oracle 9i Logical Standby on Windows. (instructions as per Oracle Documentation)
Did not have any issues setting up.
While setting up the Logical Standby, Recovered the Primary Database until Oct 10/09 8:16 pm
Registered the archive log in the logical standby generated hence and the FAL took care of copying/registering the rest of the archivelogs.
Created and inserted some records in Primary database and could see them in Standby.
    So far so good.
On Oct11 data was entered into Primary database. Archivelogs were shipped to Standby, I could see them registered in DBA_LOGSTDBY_LOG.
The APPLIED_SCN,NEWEST_SCN were in sync as per DBA_LOGSTDBY_PROGRESS.
Today, we had some issues with data and when we queried the user tables: (no skip settings)
Couldn't see any data in standby past the recovery...
No errors reported in DBA_LOGSTDBY_EVENTS. No errors in Alert log also.
    What could be happening?
    Thanks,
    Madhuri

    I figured it out...
Today, we had some issues with data and when we queried the user tables: (no skip settings)
Couldn't see any data in standby past the recovery...I was using two tables as random spot check and both did not get updated. So, I was under the impression SQL APPLY did not do anything.
But, it did apply the redo on the rest of the tables.
These 2 tables in question were skipped because both of them had Function Based indexes.
They are very huge individual tables .
So, exporting them from Primary database and Importing them into Standby Database. Skipping DML in DataGuard.
    That solved the problem.

  • Early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 Mystery Logic Board/GPU Issue

I recently received an Early 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 for free because the owner couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. It would boot up with the startup chime, but never output any video, and kept rebooting and replaying the startup chime.  Using the diagnostic LEDs on the logic board, I was able to see that the Power Good LED (LED 7) and the EFI LED (LED 9) were both on, but the GPU LED (LED 8) never lit up.  After trying all the PCI slots and confirming that the graphics card worked in another Mac Pro, I confirmed it wasn't the graphics card.  I then tried a different power supply and different power supply cables, different RAM, different RAM boards, but still nothing.  (Note: I also went through all the usual stuff: Power Cycling, PRAM, SMC Reset)
I then ordered a replacement logic board (used from eBay) and spent the weekend swapping out the logic board.  After the swap, the Mac Pro STILL won't output video, and now the EFI LED (LED 9) won't even light up.  Tried resetting the EFI Firmware via a CD, and still nothing.  Does anyone have any idea as to what the issue could be?  I'm 95% certain I plugged everything back in correctly on the board, but I don't know what else to do other than tear it apart again to confirm everything is plugged in.  The only other thing I can think of is that the second logic board I received was also bad.
    Please help!!!

Your problem sounds like a graphics card problem to me.
confirming that the graphics card worked in another Mac Pro,
Was this also a Mac Pro 2008 model? was it running the same Mac OS X version as you are testing? what version?
what graphics card are you trying to use? Genuine Apple or flashed PC or unflashed PC? what Mac OS X version?
That second board sounds Bad to me if it won't say EFI-OK.

  • Roland TD4SX, Addictive Drums 1.5 and Logic Pro 9 issues

I have been using AD and Logic with my Roland Drum kit for a little while now and while the automatic mapping from kit to plugin is working for the most part, Logic seems to kill the midi coming from one of the pads (the middle tom 45(A2)) and I'm not sure why. It requires me to remap this pad to another midi key to get it to work. I could only assume that Logic has taken this midi key for its own use but I have no idea how to find out what it is mapped to and how to remove that mapping. Anyone know how to debug this issue?
I believe this is an issue with Logic specifically. The reason I know this is because that pad and the kit in its default mapping work perfectly in Ableton Live but not in Logic.

You might find that you have inadvertently 'learned' A2 as a controller assignment. Open the *Controller Assignments* window ⌘-K, and delete the learned message that is 90 39 Lo7 (A2).

  • Scrubbing issue audiobook itouch

It seems that with my 1st gen iTouch, and my 80gb iPod classic, that during audiobooks I get a very weird issue.
I can not scrub (fast forward) during certain tracks and it seems to be actually spreading.  I never had this problem before and seem to start with the new updates to iTunes.
Here is what happens.  I am listening to the Harry Potter books.  I have to pause it when I get to work.  When i start it up it remembers the position but can not play from that position.  It either skips to the next chapter, or sometimes two or three chapters ahead, or goes back to the beginning giving me the wrong time. So I go to the chapter that I was on and when I try to scrub it either starts the chapter over or skips to the next chapter as well.
I have tried restoring the iPods and reinstalling the audiobooks, but still the same problem.  I have set it to remember playing position but that increases the problem.  I have looked through settings on the iPod and iTunes and I can not find anything either.
The audiobooks are in MP3 format and I am changing them to AAC format.  But that can take a VERY long time.  I am looking to listen to some Star Wars books and Tolkien books and not looking forward to having to convert them.
Is this a common problem?  Has anyone found a fix?  Will this be fixed in an update?  or are there not going to be new updates for 1st Gen iTouch?
    Cheers in Advance
    Gelfangel

Take it to the nearest Apple Store and have them replace it.

  • Logic Express Sync Issue

    MAC G5 2.0 dual 1mb RAM Tiger – Digi 002 Pro Tools 6.9.2
Last night I downloaded and installed the Logic 7 Express demo from
the apple site. After opening and setting up logic I opened a current
Garage Band file. It plays very slow and sluggish. Similar to when you
have the sample rate set incorrectly. I keep getting sample rate
errors but can't seem to get it corrected. I tweaked most of the
options under the synchronization menu to no avail.
Pro Tools still runs fine, but Garage Band now does the same thing.
What did I hose? If I use the internal sound drivers from apple all is
well. I feel the issue is tied to Digi's core audio drivers.
    Any suggestions?
    T.

Call apple support. You'll have to provide a proof of purchase and they probably will give you a new serial no.

  • White screen started appearing when in Logic? RAM issue?

    Hi there,
Am a relatively knowledgable MBPro user. I've an old beauty from 2007 which has done me proud all these years. I recently upgraded the OS from the original Tiger ( ! ) to Snow Leopard and the last three months all has worked smoothly.
Yesterday and today however when I've been working in Logic (still Pro8 - yes, I know!) the MBP starts performning verrry slooowwwwly (beachballs) and the white screen obliterates the arrange window. I've restarted a couple of times but the problem's still there when I open Logic and start running it.
    My ETreCheck details are below.
Does anybody have any ideas as to how I mitigate this issue?
    Thanks!
    Adrian

I cannot say with certainty.  I would make certain that your data is backed up, erase the HDD,  install the OSX and then upgrade it to 10.6.8.  Then install the user data.  Any problems that may have been resident should be gone.
RAM upgrade issue: I researched via the Apple site if my particualr MBPro could have extra memory installed. After much online reserach, it was inconclusive - so I called Apple up and a techie told me that my model was one of the last that couldn't have RAM added.  Are you sure he was incorrect?  Obviously adding 1GB would indeed make a huge difference.
Do be suspicious and challenge advice you receive on these and any other forums.  Mistakes can be made and I have to admit I have done so, but not too often.    I have witnessed bad advice but I have never thought it was offered deliberately.
Regarding RAM, you have been misinformed.  Your MBP will accept 3 GB RAM.  Look at these two links, one for OWC and the other Crucial:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/Pro/Core2/http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/Pro/Core2/
    http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-memory-for/Apple/macbook-pro-2*33ghz-in tel-core-2-duo-(17-inch)
Read them carefully and you will see that both corroborate my position.

  • Logic Pro 8 Issues, Error Messages

    Hi all.
I've been having a variety of problems with my home recording studio, which i have neglected to post about until now- from what i've read it seems no-one knows how to fix them. I'm turning to the MacTalk community to resolve my woes... First things first, here's the gear:
     MacBook Pro (mid-2008), 2.4GHz C2D, 4GB RAM, OS X 10.5.6.
 I use Logic Pro 8 primarily, and this is where all the errors are popping up. I record to WAV, 24-bit, 48KHz (for the sake of diagnosing errors, I have tried 16-bit, 44.1KHz and noticed no difference).
 All audio-related work is handled on a WD MyStudio External FW800 HDD.
 My audio interfaces are an Apogee Duet, and an M-Audio ProFire 2626 (both running latest drivers).
Now, there are 3 (possibly related) problems i'm having with my setup.
    ✖ Problem #1
I receive an error message indicating a 'System Overload' at random times during playback and occasionally recording.
It halts the audio, and I need to click play or record again. Sometimes it happens again and again, other times it’s just a one-off. This problem can occur with either the Duet or ProFire interface. Apparently the number of tracks I’m recording or playing is irrelevant, as it happens under many different circumstances.
    ✖ Problem # 2
I receive an error message telling me that the “Drive is too slow, error -10004”, and this happens only in recording (I think; oh and it looks like the previous dialogue box). As mentioned above, I use a FW800 external HDD, so it shouldn’t be a hardware requirements issue – it SHOULD be fine as far as I know. It was particularly bad when I was recording 5 channels of audio into the ProFire 2626. Like the previous issue, it halts the recording, and sometimes recurs. It may not happen with the Duet.
I may be imagining things, but I think it records fine indefinitely when I’m recording near-silence, i.e. not playing my drums. It almost seems as though the problem is triggered when I get particularly loud. Perhaps it’s clipping, I’ll have to check. Still, it shouldn’t cause an error that halts recording should it?
    ✖ Problem #3
This one only occurs with the ProFire. I get minor crackles and little bits of distortion and ugly tearing sounds in some channels occasionally. They each only last a fraction of a second, and usually aren’t particularly loud, but they spoil takes. Can occur during silent passages OR loud parts.
For the record, I typically record to WAV, 24-bit, 48KHz, with a 128 or 256 sample buffer, Medium Process Buffer Range, and Software Monitoring enabled. However, I have tried up to 1024 sample buffer, Large Process Buffer Range, 16-bit, 44.1KHz WAV, and turned off Software Monitoring – none of this made a difference.
So, if anyone thinks they can help me out here, please do so! I’ll greatly appreciate any input ☺
    Cheers,
    Chris

This problem points to a buffer that is set too low. Make it one step bigger, but leave the I/O safety buffer OFF.
also: you can disable the warning message.
    2.
CAN also be buffer-related, but it may be the disk. Is it a 5400 or 7200 RPM disk?
It may also be that memory is too full. I would recommend installing Menumeters (freeware) http://www.pure-mac.com/diag.html#menumeters
You can monitor CPU-use, disk activity, memory use, paging activity and network activity with it.
Another thing to consider is to Freeze all Software Instrument tracks before recording. Also freeze heavily 'insert-pluginned' audio tracks. This may free up a lot of CPU power.
    3. This problem might benefit from the above tips as well, but I think you can win the most by NOT using software monitoring when recording (for all three issues); it brings extra latency and puts much more strain on the CPU. Through which plugs do you monitor? And why?
I'ld recommend using the direct monitoring capabilities of both your interfaces, and avoid Software Monitoring when recording. Also being aware of what is going on (by using both Menumeters AND Logics' own CPU-meters) can be crucial - especially Paging (when active RAM is written to or read from disk) can disturb Logic, as well as background OS X applications that kick in during a session.
I also recommend turning off Journaling before a recording session. To do that, open *Disk Utility*, select the recording disk from its' list, hold down the ⌥ key and choose the menu *File>Disable Journaling*.
To turn it back on after recording, same actions, only now the menu item will say *Enable Journaling*.

  • Quark Xpress, Photoshop & Illustrator - Major Issues

I have recently loaded Leopard and ever since i have, Quark Xpress 7.3.1, Photoshop CS2, and Illustrator CS2. I have had issues with all of these programs closing unexpectedly and the only way to get them to open again is by restarting! this is very frustrating and has happened at least 4 times to me today. Also my fonts will all of the sudden decide to be missing, and it's random, it will choose a font to be missing. This also requires me to restart before it can be fixed.

Check Adobe's website - not sure that CS2 is really supported on Leopard. I know that CS3 does work. At least to the extent that I use it.

  • Logic Pro 8 Issues

Im still using logic 8 right now, and I have had it for about two years now,but I am now getting this weird "System Overload Message" and also when I load it up, I have also gotten this weird message about my "DAE Folder" is missing. Does any one know how to fix these issues.
    Thanks for your help....

Most of the NI Instruments don't run on Leopard because NI hasn't updated the drivers for them (check the NI website fort info, they say the update is due in Decembre...). The same counts for other 3rd party plugs so either you revert to 10.4.11 or wait for the new drivers.
