Contrast/Color Correction render problem

So, on certain clips in my timeline when I apply either the Fast Color Corrector or Levels corrector to increase input black, when it is rendered the top line of pixels blinks black per frame. It's really annoying and looks unprofessional, and I am doing a video for a music client. I have tried replacing the clip, replacing the color correction, and nothing seems to be working. Anyone know what would be causing this?

No - the original video is fine, it only does this when I apply a color correction effect. It's only certain clips too, I don't know if it would in some way be related to sub-clipping. It appears to be sporadic since clips that come from the same source file are fine.
Also no - the computer I am using is relatively new and fast, so I haven't been using anything like that.
I have tried everything from re-subclipping to re-importing the footage. Do you think it's just a general problem with my video card? Because occasinally when I render AVI's I get a frame or two of random static...it's just weird that it is sporadic on the clips, but also consistently present on those ones that are affected. Or maybe it is my general cursed luck with technology.

  • Color Correction -- render does NOT match preview

Something seems very odd about Color Correction.
I select a clip that is too dark. I adjust the slider to lighten it up while previewing. It looks perfect.
Now I APPLY and the rendered video is very different. Typically now way too light.
So I adjust render, adjust render, adjust render. This seems a crazy way to do edit!
Why doesn't the render match the preview?
PS: Sometimes only part of a clip renders with the remainder being black. What's going on?

    Hi
    Not really knowing.
    a. The tool in iMovie HD 6 crude near of no use
    b. How do You judge the result. On Your Mac monitor - Not so good just an approx.
I connect my miniDV tape Camera via FireWire
Connect the analog out to a small TV/Monitor
Set in iMovie "Playback via Camera"
This picture on the TV/Monitor is very close to my final product

  • 3 way color correction preview problem

I can't see any changes in Visual Mode on my external monitor. Its outputted from a Aja Kona LH. The changes are visible in FCP so I know its working but need to be able to see it on my calibrated HD JVC LCD.
I can see adjustments in numerical mode.
    Project is 1080 Prores.
    What am I missing?

    Thanks for the help folks.
I tried all the suggestions and I'm still having the problem. Its really hard to grade color when the little changes I make don't appear as I make them in the external monitor. I wonder if its a performance issue with my G5 and the HD prores files. I have the ATI X800 XT and 6 gigs of RAM. I can see the changes in the canvas but not on the monitor unless I uncheck then re-check the preview. I should be able to see the changes as I drag the Mids around the color wheel in realtime right? Again see it in realtime in the canvas just not in my external monitor.
    Maybe a Aja Kona problem?

  • Losing Mask when color correcting

I am trying to isolate a certain color, so I applied a mask in Motion because I get a much better/easier mask there. I bring it back in to FCP and add color correction, no problem. But the second I try to limit the effect it is gone. It is like that makes the alpha go away or something. Any thoughts to why this is happening and any suggestions?
    Thanks as always
    Shawn

Ok, let me try this again.
On track one I have a clip that is black and white.
On track two I have the same clip that I have put a mask on in Motion. Which is over an object that I want to isolate the color which in this case is orange.
I add a color correction filter to clip 2, then I clip on the limit effect triangle in color correction and use the dropper to select the orange from my clip.
At the point the mask immediately disappears. That is about as clear as I can make it.
All I want to know is why this is happening and a possible work aroound. Color might be the be solution for this down the road, but would like to figure this problem out for now if possible.

  • Color correction problems with multiple monitors

I just upgraded my Win 7 from RC to RTM.  I then updated my color correction using Gretag Macbeth i1 for both adapters. My system has 2 video cards and 3 monitors.  Monitor 1 runs off adapter 1, monitors 2 & 3 run off adapter 2.  Both video cards and all 3 monitors are of the same model.  I set adapter/monitor 1 to the ICC profile 1, and adapter 2/monitor 2&3 to ICC profile 2 from Gretag.  Not running LR, everything looks as expected.
When I run LR on the primary monitor green leaves turn orange, if I had to guess I would say I'm loosing the green information.  If I move LR to display 2 or 3 the colors are as they should be.
I ran into this once before and it was something simple to fix this, but I can't seem to find it now.   BTW, this worked just fine before the upgrade from RC to RTM.

At first I thought a reboot cured the problem, but apparently not.

  • Color correction novice back with a problem/question.

    Hi,
I have been working on color correction for an edit of a live 2 camera shoot concert. Edits are almost all final. I dug into correcting color between the 2 cameras & after some practice got good results.
Tho, I noticed that corrections looked slightly different after rendering them, and again slightly different after exporting to full uncompressed quicktime video.
Saturation levels shifted (less), & some shots showed slightly different color balance. This is a unique shoot because the stage was fully lit in red light & red can be one of the most difficult colors in video (in my experience).
So I eventually started that vicious cycle of correcting not by eye but by anticipating what was needed to get a desired result after rendering & exporting... each time it was lengthy renders & exports before seeing the results.
So I had several versions of the project saved w/ different renderings, etc. All of this is stored on a 250 gig 2nd internal drive which I bought & installed just for editing. All files & edit lists etc were kept there.
So I'm trying to look at different versions after having to put the project aside for a couple of weeks, and every version I open shows me a list of render files that it says it can't find. I've just been choosing to re-render.
(I'm wondering if a routine session of running disk warrior on my drives could have contributed to this?? Thats the only thing I can think of, other than the OSX upgrade to 10.4.4, which also included a quicktime upgrade.)
I'm new at this so I'm trying to figure out if this disappearance of render files is normal? In one version I chose 'search computer for render files' or something to that effect & I watched it go thru my drives one after another & when it got to the 2nd internal drive (where all the render files should be), it spent about 1/10th the time that it spent searching other drives. It really jumped in & out of that drive really quickly.
Its not all the render files that are missing, I looked in the render folder & some have older dates, while a section of them are from tonite when I re-rendered. Then more with the older date.
    Anybody have any advice?
    Thanks for your help

  • Color correction problem between original sequence and multicam sequence... Please help

I used three camcorders to record a youth dance recital.  I created an orginal sequence for the three camcorders and another sequence using the multicam feature to edit the dances.  After I finished editing, I went back to the original sequence to make some color correction and brightness adjustments using the Fast Color Correction controls.  After that, I sent everything to Encore to create a DVD.  When I watched the DVD, I noticed some of my color correction settings were still off, so I went back to the orginal sequence to make some changes.  Unfortunately, the multicam sequence would not read the new settings.  After a few unsuccessful attempts to get the clip from the multicam sequence to read the clip from the original sequence, I decided to start over by clearing the Fast Color Correction controls from the clip.  The multicam sequence then adjusted back matching the original sequence.  However, when I started a new Fast Color Correction control in the original sequence, the multicam sequence would not take the new settings.  How to I get the mulitcam sequence to read the orginal sequence?

    Thank Jim for replying:
I am stumped on this one.  I did a few radical tweeks and it did not take.  For example, I made one clip in the original sequence go completely dark.  However, the clip in the mulicam sequence did not change.
I even deleted the render files and the work area render files and started over with making changes.  Nothing.  Any change I make on the original sequence will no longer adjust in the multicam sequence.
Any last words of advice before I delete the entire multicam sequence and start over?  Thanks.

  • Serious problem with a color correction

    Ok so here´s the deal....
I have a 83.62 Gb quicktime movie file. It came from a  Black and White color corretion made in Scratch and it was delivered to me wit a Uncompressed 32-bit ARGB codec.
I need to work with it on FCP, so i compressed it to Apple Pro Res 422(HQ) and then imported it to final.
While in final cut, a played the commpressed clip on the viewer and .....(HERE´S THE TRICKY PART).....it losses the color correction on the playback, but as soon as i pause it, it recovers the color correction again.
I´ve asked a few friends about it and nobody seems to understand what´s going on. The clip recognizes the color correction ONLY WHILE PAUSED. Not on playback, not even if I play it the Quicktime application. I´m completly lost.
I have a Mac Pro 2x2.4 Ghz Intel Xeon , with a  6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 ECC memory and a ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card. With FCP7 running.
I will greatly aprecciate your advice on this one!

Besides the fact that FCP plays videos at low quality for resources sake, I would suggest you export a two second clip (with current settings) and check about colour correction in quick time. If there is a problem convert original again in compressor but this time in the colour tab select the HD 709 colour space. The 709 space manains grading across conversions.
I underlined the 422 and not the 422 HQ but you get the gist...

  • Problems when rendering color correction.

Hi! I discovered a possible bug in Pro CS3. Maybe in Pro 2 too? When manually adjusting "levels" in the Color Correction menu, the rendering
makes some frame dropouts. I pulled away som blue tint in some
footages and the render results in jumpy playback when people move fast by the camera. Sounds' linear and OK. When scrolling the timeline frame by frame, some frames are gone compared to the original. Ticking
the Effect Icon in the Effects Control window on and off, it changes
back to normal in the original movie. Exporting it as AVI makes same.
But when doing Color Balance instead, and lowering blue, everythings'
    normal. Strange!

  • Can't see color correction until render

whenever i add like "fast color corrector" or "three way color corrector" the entire video goes black. i have to render each and everytime i make changes to view what i actually did. is there anyway to fix this?

I'm using Adobe CS6. I just got it today.
The footage file is a .MOV (shot with my Nikon D5100).
All i did was drag the video in the program, draged it to the workspace then draged one of the color correction presets to the file and the in the "program area" went black. Once i hit the Enter key, it will show the differnce, as i make a change the video will go straight to black again.
I'm lost and don't know what to do!

  • Color correction problem

    Hi.
I usually work on color correction using Color, but sometimes i use CC in FCP.
I have a clip that need to low down black levels, so i tried CC and CC 3 way, but when i click with eyedrop the blackest part of the clip, instead of blancing blacks, it turns all image to blue. What's happened?
can i have some suggest about it?
    thanx

To color balance, find anything in the shot that should be white. Using the Color Corrector 3-Way filter, click on the eyedropper for the highlights (the color wheel on the right) then click the white object in the shot on the Canvas window. If you're viewing your edit on a properly calibrated external TV monitor, it should look white there. Do NOT go by what you see in the Canvas as it isn't accurate. You can also use FCP's scopes for evaluation.
If it still looks a little off on the TV monitor and/or on the scopes, use the mouse to drag the dot in the highlights color wheel toward the hue it needs to be (away from the hue that is is currently).
You can also adjust the mid-tones and black balance hue controls as needed, but be careful when using the black levels and hue adjustments; a small adjustment can go a long, long way.

  • Color Correction Quality Loss Computational Problem.

I have an entire film finished editing, all color graded etc...
And I recently decided I want to go more conservative with the color palet.
If  I simply overlay a color correction over the entire film sequence.   Would I lose more quality than I would lose by going back through and  readjusting the color balance on every clip?
I guess this is  basically a question of how Premier calculates it's color correction.   Does it save it's numeric values in a largr than neccessary floating  point number or does it have to do rounding at each step?

I think that what Ann is asking is how did you do your color grading, i.e. 3-Way Color Corrector, etc.
Now, I am at a loss as to what you are now asking about. Which Effects are you now thinking about?
If it would be, say Fast Color Corrector, 3-Way, etc., then you might want to Nest your Sequence into another one, and apply that desired Color Correction Effect to the entire Nested Sequence.
    Good luck,

  • Color corrected video washed out by font / graphics

    Hi everyone-
I'm running FCP 4.1.1 on a Mac dual G4. I have some DV clips on the timeline which I adjusted using the brightness / contrast function of the Color Correction tool. When I lay font or graphics over it, the clips get all washed out, and look more like the original clips. After rendering, the Viewer tells me that the video clips are still brightness / contrast adjusted, even though they're not. When I remove the font / graphics, they look as I intended (adjusted).
I used these same graphics on other video clips and they worked fine. It seems to be an issue with the adjusted clips.
    Can anyone help? Thanks.
    Mac dual G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

what color is the render bar above these problem clips?
it may be that with these graphic overlays applied then you are seeing only a proxy or preview of the final effect and not a full render
if so, check your Sequence > Render settings and make sure to check the Preview and/or Proxy options
    cheers

  • Color Correction Novice rounding home stretch w/ a Q

    Hi,
So far, I've received some valuable advice & tips for my 1st attempts at color correction, esp since my production falls outside the normal applications. The help has been great!
I went thru my production and did scene by scene corrections, which lost most of its intimidation with enough practice. I still havent tackled the Keyframe approach to having corrections shift during the course of a scene - I'm hoping to escape without having to do that.
    Heres my question -
I did all the corrections, with a calibrated external monitor, and then had the program render all the video effects. Then I chose "print to video". When the program ran, the colors were a little different overall than what I had set in the program (less orange, more pink) and in a few scenes (orig underexposed, but corrected in the process), the color shifted more radically, esp in the shadow / black values which fell greenish.
I didnt see any of this as I was correcting, and the signal path was the same when I printed to dvd, same monitor w/ no calibration changes.
Is this normal? Maybe these shifts happen more discreetly in reg productions, mine is a live stage shoot with a lot of red light.
Thanks for all the help, & Happy New Year

    Hi,
Thanks for all the info, I'm starting to look at ways of sending what I have to people who need to see it. The project will likely still require some tweaking so this isnt a final mastering step by any means. Just looking for something that looks as good as what I see on the monitor after rendering.
Its looking like (from the lasts posts) that 'out thru firewire -> dvd recorder' isnt the best choice & if I can keep it in the computer & flow it directly to its burner, the opportunities for problems can be minimalized.
I tried exporting to quicktime, that resulted in an FCP Quicktime file that took 3 hrs to create & was almost 13 gig. (program is 50 min) so it looked great but was too huge to put onto a disk.
If anyone has guidance in this area, I'd appreciate it. I'm gonna poke around in those options & then likely post a further question seperately on this subject. I want to get it onto a dv disc via toast 6 (I see Quicktime w/ Compression is an option so I'm gonna explore that)
Thank you all again for the correction help, in that 13 gig version, it looked really great (no green in shadow artifacts ! )
