Contribute 2 editing

I've created a web page in DW that has a spry horizontal menu
bar. When I open the page in Contribute 2 it views perfectly,
however when I select the edit key the horizontal menu becomes
misplaced on the page in the lower portion.
Also, my horizontal css menu bar displays vertically in the
edit mode of Contribute. Why?
What can I do to prevent the horizontal menu bar from not
properly displaying in the edit mode of Contribute?
Thanks for any available assistance

I am having the same problem.  Did you ever find out the answer.
I am having the problem after the designer added google-ad code with a frame.

  • You can't use Contribute to edit this type of file

I've updated a few pages from a website, so they're just
variations of pages that used to work with Contribute. Now I'm
getting a message--on some of them--that "you can't used Contribute
to edit this type of file." These are html files with the extension
htm. They contain tables. They are based on templates. They don't
seem to have any other distinguishing properties. Exactly what kind
of files don't work? What might I be doing wrong? I teach this at a
college & my students are as puzzled as I am.

Ancient thread, but if anyone else is googling this phrase I thought I might respond with a possible answer.  I encountered the same error but could not find anything wrong with the page in question.  Turned out the page getting the error message was fine! The issue was actually with a simple typo on the page that linked to that page--it was missing the extension (e.g., linking to "page2" instead of "page2.php".  The web server (and Contribute's browser) were pulling up the page even though the extension was missing but Contribute didn't know what kind of file it was so it refused to allow editing.

  • How to use Contribute to edit html or java script

I have a client who use Contribute to edit web pages but they
are unable to edit the html or javascript. I have a javascript
photogallery they want to update but they can't. Is there away
around this? I tried a flash gallery but they still can't update
the xml file. Am I missing something here?

You can give your users the rights to Edit page source in
external application (both for xml as javascript):
    1. Main menu>Edit>Administer websites, pick site
    2. Users and Roles, pick role, click Edit role settings
    3. go to Editing and check 'Allow users to edit web page
    source in external application'
When your users opens (using the Choose btn next to
addressbar) a .js or .xml file in Contribute (tested in CS3) just
click the 'Edit btn' and Contribute will open the file in the
    editor you selected.
    How to select the editors:
    1. Main menu>Edit>Preferences
    2. go to File Editors.
If this does not work in your version maybe you can use Main
    menu>File>Actions>Edit page source in external
    application.

  • Can I use Adobe Contribute to edit my website hosted on Yahoo Web Hosting?

I used to be able to use Adobe Contribute to edit my website hosted on Yahoo. Then Yahoo made some change a few years ago and said I couldn't use Contribute anymore. Can I use it now?

You'll need to ask the folks at Yahoo but if I had to guess, I would say you cannot. They probably have their own proprietary system to build their websites.

  • Does the client need to install Contribute to edit their website?

I have recently started out in the website design world (feeling VERY much like Alice!), and am trying to get my head around CMS.
Starting to explore Contribute/Joomla/Wordpress and although I  understand the manipulating templates/coding part of things, how does  the CMS process work?
As in, at which point do you, the developer/designer, put into use Contribute, or Joomla etc for the client, and then how does the customer use it? Do they have to install Contribute at their end?
I am about to start a website for a client with a face-painting business who wants a simple 3-page  site (home, gallery, contact), and wants to be able to update the gallery page. How do I start  with Contribute or Joomla? I have tried to wade  through the mountains of info I found online, but can't seem to find the BEGINNING!
    Thanks in anticipation!
    Magda

    Hey Magda,
I use Joomla myself, and about 2 years ago I felt the same way you do. I didn't understand how the CMS part of web design works. I do not know how Contributor works, but I know that in Joomla anyone can sign into an administrative "backend" where you can log in right in the web browser and edit articles and information.
So basically (in Joomla) if your website is www.genericexample.com, you would go to your web browser and type in www.genericexample.com/administrator. This will bring you to a login form, and after you log in you will be at an interface where you can edit your website content without even touching HTML or CSS. It's all WYSIWYG (but it does let you directly edit the HTML and CSS if that is what you want to do).
In Joomla you can add users and give them passwords so that your clients can update their website after you have completed it and moved on.
The interface is very simple to use.
    Kind regards,
    Tim

  • Contribute 4 Editing, when typing page jumps to top of page

When in the Dreamweaver like edit mod after clicking the edit
button I go to enter some text and the focus of the page goes
straight to the top whenever something is typed.. I scroll back
down and the text has been entered.. so I type something again and
it jumps back to the top again. We've been unable to work out how
to stop this.. and its becoming very frustrating, especially as it
doesn't happen on my work copy..
I'm using Adobe Contribute CS3 on my work system.. but the
clinet is running Adobe Contribute 4.
Has anyone else had the same thing happen to them, or does
anyone have an idea for why this is happening?

Javascript to retrieve (and send to server) 'scrolling status' onSubmit and restore it onLoad for the first one, AJAX for the second. Not really a JSP problem anyway.
    bye.

Looks as if many people are having this issue with no real aswer provided asside from 'Employees' sending private messages to users.
Currently have pages that render fine in a regurlar browser as well as the CS3 Contribute Browser, however when going to edit the page it simply does not render the page with any off the CSS styles applied.
    Dreamweaver CS5
    Contribute CS3 (our user base)
    Page
calls via SSI a (.shtml) file which containes all calls to css style sheets (non @import)
Help with this issue would be greatly appreciate.
    Thank you

Any employees want to shine in on how to resolve this issue?  Is the only solution to include all css style sheet calls from page itself and not the includes? any way around this?

  • Contribute to edit Slide Show?

What is the best way to allow a client to easily modify the
contents of a slideshow from within Contribute?
I would like my client to be able to add his new work to his
slideshow without having to do a lot of coding. Yes, he could
probably modify the Fireworks slideshow xml after he resizes his
images, and uploads them, can this be done within contribute?
    Thanks
    S

When you have an XML option you could use the Publish file
from my computer option under >File in teh main menu and update
    the XML using:
You cannot edit the .xml files directly in Contribute. What
    you can do is:
    1. in the main menu go to >Edit>Preferences
    2. go to 'File Editors'
    3. select .xml
    4. add the application (f.i. notepad.exe) and make it
    'primary'
Next you will have to adjust the users and roles settings:
    1. in the main menu go to >Edit>Administer websites and
    choose your website
    2. choose your role and click Edit Role Settings-button,
    3. go to Editing and check 'Allow users to edit source code
    in external application'.
    To edit the xml file:
    1. connect to your website
    2. click the Choose button on the right of the address bar
    3. browse to the xml file you want to edit
    4. when the xml file is open Contribute will tell you (This
file cannot be displayed in the Contribute web browser.
You may be able to edit this type of file with another
application. Edit your Contribute preferences to specify an
    application.)
    5. normally you would now go to the main menu click
    >File>Actions>Edit source code in external application,
BUT you don't, you click >File>Actions>Edit Page or the
    'Edit-button' in the main screen
    6. notepad will open the file, you can edit the file now,
save the file in notepad and then publish the file using
    Contribute.

  • Adobe Contribute to edit a Muse website?

Hello, I've created a simple brochure website for a friend's business using Muse.  Moving forward he'll edit the content himself.  Is Adobe Contribute the best option for him to use to do that?
Thanks in advance for your help, Rod.

    Hi Rod,
Adobe Contribute isn't a Muse compatible work-flow and unfortunately, your friend won't be able to edit the site himself without a Muse subscription.
Muse is a stand-alone piece of software which requires a user to have access to the original "yoursite.muse" file, all the support documents, photos, etc to make any edits and then re-upload the the web. So, he's going to need a subsciption, and you'll need to send him all of the supporting documents and files for him to have access to when making changes.
There is a small amount of flexibility if using Business Catalyst, which I have heard allows a small amount of client editing - but I am not an expert on BC - I would look through the FAQ yourself for more information on this. Note, this is also a paid-for service too.

  • Has anyone tried editing an iWeb site with Contribute or Dreamweaver?

Before iWeb, I liked using Adobe Macromedia Contribute to edit the.Mac homepages. I've been giving iWeb a spin, and it seems to occupy the same place in Apple's stable as the rest of its siblings — a pre-pubescent version of Contribute, which is a subset of Dreamweaver.
I haven't yet tried it, but it seems as if the iWeb templates would be a good starting point, and Contribute/Dreamweaver would be great tools to polish the site.
I'm still confused, though, as to what the .Mac WebDAV URLs are...that's the thing that always tripped me up. Dreamweaver 8 is a better at site management, it seems, but if anyone could post a "definitive" guide on using a third-party tool, it would be much appreciated.

yes you can use other websoftware to modify iweb sites either after it is on the webserver or if you save it to a folder before publishing.
I tried the demo of Dream weaver and it worked fine..also I used Rapidweaver which works too. Heck you could use anything that can edit HTML which is really just a text file.
The problem with iweb is it is using those stupid PNG files which are big and to make it worse it duplicates all your images rather than having them in a shared folder you can end up with dozens of the same image which when someone visits your site and changes pages it has to download the same image again!
    pretty crazy stuff.
iweb looks nice and as long as people are viewing it with broadband you'd be ok but dialup users are "toast" even on a simple site.
I got the demo of rapidweaver which is not as intuiative but in someways is more complete and have done a 3 page site.. others are developing themes for it and also there are plugins which add alot of functionality.
at $35 USD it is cheap and if you go to http://www.screencastsonline.com there are 3 videos to show you how to use it and a discount code.
I personally thing iweb is great but has some design flaws that will need to be delt with.

  • Can Contribute Edit Fragments rather than complete web pages

    Hi,
Currently evaluating Contribute as a means to allow business users edit content on our corporate website.
Our website is built using Spring MVC with a JSP Frontend.
Most static pages use one JSP, which includes a header, footer, left Navigation and Body as separate JSP Pages. There is logic in these to output diffrerent META info, Page Titles, etc (Header), and style the Navigation differently depending on the Page (left nav).
The main Body JSP is imported with the filename as a parameter which was passed in the URL.
Is it possible for contribute the edit/publish the Body JSP only?
Or can contribute only publish full HTML pages?
    Thanks,
    Gareth

    Hi,
contribute doesn't fully support .cfm pages.

  • Page Content Won't Display in Contribute (Edit Mode) or Dreamweaver (Design View)

I have pages on my site that have  decided they don't want to display content either in Contribute (in edit
mode) or in DreamWeaver (in design view). They always look fine in Live view, prior to hitting the 'edit' button or when viewing in a browser. Using CS4 on Windows XP. I use Contribute for small edits and this renders that tool useless as there is no WYSIWYG. It's a pain in Dreamweaver to have to keep previewing in browser when I'm used to working in code/design view. Any help most appreciated. Here's the page I'm currently having the problem with:

  • Editable div using overflow: scroll not eitable in Contribute

I have created a website using Dreamweaver 5. Within the site I created a template page with an editable text region. Within that region I have a div that has a overflow: scroll; command on some of the pages. On all the pages that I have used this div within the editable region my customer, who is using Adobe Contribute, can not edit the text. What do I need to do to make this text accessible to them while using Contribute to edit the copy.

my customer, who is using Adobe Contribute, can not edit the text.
I'm not sure you can do anything here.  But ask them to try double clicking on the text within that region.
