Contribute 4: Won't publish on mac - help

I downloaded contribute 4 - connects fine, but eveytime i go
to publish i get an error saying it can't connect to the server -
this is on my mac os x,
however it works fine on my PC - has anyone experienced the
same problems? is there any compatibility problems with version 4
and some mac versions?

It happens whenever editing or creating a new page - i press
publish and after a minute of nothing i get the error.
"Contribute could not connect because the server is down or
not accepting connections. Please contact your administrator"
If i press cancel after this it will often read:
"Contribute had disabled your conection to this website
because an unknown error occured. for more information contact this
website's administrator"
I'm pretty sure it is to do with security settings on the
mac's - as it works fine on the PC's.
I have used other aplications for ftp - e.g. transmit
I have run all command line checks and everythings fine -
looking trough the security settings everything looks ok - any
idea?

  • IWeb won't publish to .mac

For the last 2 days, every time I try to publish iWeb to .mac, a box comes up asking for my password. I enter it, but nothing happens.
I think I may have an iDisk problem or a .mac login problem.
Someone please help. I need to republish asap!!!!!

I have encountered the same problems - my site was fine until yesterday when I decided to change it and now it won't publish.
Let me know if you figure out what happened
I'm using iWeb 06 and have not upgraded to the new one. I did install some software updates that come in automatically. I wonder if that might be the problem.
When I try to visit site - I get a download popup and my pages (name only appear on my desktop but they are blank and nothing happens when I click on the icon. Weird - weird - weird

  • IPhoto 5 won't publish to .Mac after Leopard install.

Ever since I installed Leopard (clean install) I have been having problems with iPhoto crashing while trying to publish a homepage to my .Mac account. I made sure it was fully patched (OS and iPhoto), repaired permissions, all the obvious stuff. Anyone else having this trouble or have a fix for it?
    Regards.

After further review I found there was one more step to reproduce, and a solution.
Using the iPhoto batch change, I always use "short date". Those file names are imported without change to Aperture. iPhoto uses the "/" and apparently Aperture doesn't escape that Unix special character properly when writing or reading to the filesystem. So it gets interpreted as a directory!
BTW Aperture uses "-" as a separator for dates in filenames. So I am now changing the name on import to Aperture and all is well.
Seems weird answering my own question, but I hope this post helps someone with the same problem until Apple fixes this bug.

  • Contribute 4 won't publish correctly

I just upgraded to Contribute CS4 and I can connect and edit
just fine. Whenever I try to publish a page, it overwrites the page
I was editing on the server by adding an extension of .new to the
file. For example, instead of events.htm, the page becomes
events.htm.new It throws an error saying "Access Denied - The file
may not exist or their could be a permission problem"
I've had our IT person check permissions on the server, and
they are fine (they worked under CS3) and I'm able to publish new
pages, just not edit existing ones.
Any help would be greatly apprecaited!

  • Links are broken, and iWeb won't publish to .mac

    Hi,
Just installed ilife and immediately ran update, and tried to continue editing/updating my site.
After publishing, the look of the page was fine, however, all the links to my blog entries were broken. Tried republishing, changing themes, and other to get it fixed. Still links are broken.
Now I am getting this error from .mac and iWeb:
An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/My_Page/Blog/Entries”. Try publishing again later.
Is this a known problem thats being fixed?
I hear of lots of people having problems. Any ideas? Anyone?

Well, I first took a lot out of my site by deleting from my Idisk so I could go down to a small site to be published. I checked on my sign in with .mac and discovered my husband's signin was current...not mine, so I changed that to mine. then proceeded and was successful. Hated taking down so much but it is still in Iphoto so can reconstruct.
For some reason I was getting a Publishing Error message so I would recommend checking on your settings for your .mac signin. i still am showing that I have 4.95GB in my site. I just need to reconnect some of my links and then all should be fine. Good luck.

Holy crap, I got it to work.
Essentially, I just waited until DiskWarrior reached Step 9 and told it to skip the step before it had a chance to freeze. It skipped successfully, moved on, rebuilt and replaced the faulty directory files.
So far the computer is booting like normal, I can log in, and I'm currently copying all of the data to an external as I type this.
I still have no idea why the computer wouldn't mount or boot to any drive, but I guess I'll deal with that later.

  • Help....Can't publish to.mac

when i try to publish my site, Iweb cant seem to log in. Keeps opening up my preferences, but my name and password are already there and accepted. I can even work through my idisk just cant publish through .mac
    any help would be appreciated1

It may also be a problem on Apple's side. When I was at the WWDC last month, I thought that my hotel's wireless Internet access was blocking whatever port iWeb uses for authentication. However, when I arrived at the conference I got the same problem trying to publish my page, I was asked to log in to .Mac. However, by lunch time the issue had resolved itself and I could upload from either site. Unfortunately, if you check the .Mac status page, this kind of interruption is NOT listed, so you have no way of knowing if it's Apple's problem or your own. You might just give it a little time to see if the issue resolves on its own.

  • If I already purchased FaceTime for Mac and recently upgraded my HD. How can I retrieve that app again? I found it in my Time Machine back up, but the files won't work. Please help.

Nope. I do the same exact thing. If you have DVD's and blu-rays you can't download a free application called Handbrake. You can set it to Apple TV2 automatic format and they will come out as playable m4v's that can play I'm iTunes. All you have to do is turn on Home Sharing in both iTunes and your Apple RV and you'll be good to go!

  • IWeb won't publish... HELP :)

Hey everyone. Everytime I try to publish from iWeb to my .Mac account it will only go so far. It will error out saying "An error occurred while publishing file 'x.mov'." Where x is a different file each time, it could also be many other types of files.
I have restarted the computer, and shut down iWeb and then brought it back up again, however it still won't publish all the way.
    Has anyone seen this yet?
    Is there a fix?
    Thank you!

Just saw the other thred. :S It did say that a lot of other people are having this issue. I think I'll call apple support and see what they know about this issue.

  • Mac help window won't stay open

When I open Mac help, it closes again after 2 or 3 seconds. Any idea why? I have an iBook G4 with OS 10.3

If after trying the above, you could also get and try a free-running utility called OnyX,
as there is a previous version available from Titanium Software's OnyX downloads
page; and read through carefully on the options this utility offers. You may be able to
reset the Apple Help Viewer so it has to rebuild itself on startup. There are other tools
in this, which essentially is a user-interface over some deeper OS X system tools that
are already on-board the computer. Some of the tricks are short-cutted so you can do
them without going into the single-user mode or run the Mac in Console, etc.
And if the system is acting fairly odd and these suggestions do not appear to help, see
how much hard disk drive free-space is available on the computer's hard disk drive,
then consider doing an "archive & install" and then update to 10.3.9 and give the new
system the last and latest security updates, and latest java it can use, QuickTime, Safari,
and other latest more secure browsers; and repair disk permissions between updates.
By the time odd things start happening in Panther or Tiger, there could be something else
needing attention in the system; so maintenance & preventative maintenance is suggested.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Why won't my Mac help work anymore?

I was trying to look up how to change permissions on a folder by going to the MAC help in finder when I realized no matter what I asked, it just wouldn't stop the spinning circle and a blank page.

Download OnyX and in the "automation" section is a "reset Mac OS X help"
see if that works, it has for some,
while your add it, check off everything in automation, it will give a slight performance boost.

Learn to clone that boot drive, it will save your bacon!

  • Mac Help "Support Articles" won't load

After searching for a topic in Mac Help, the resulting page has two sections: "Help Topics" and "Support Articles".
When I try to access one of the Support Articles, I get this error message:
The requested resource (/kb//apps/helpviewer/index) is not available
It appears that the folder "helpviewer" containing the file "index" is unavailable. After diligent searching I can't find a folder called "helpviewer" on my computer.
Test: Disconnect the computer from the internet and open a Help topic. "Help Topics" are listed, but there are no "Support Articles". This indicates that the Support Articles are on a server somewhere, and that I can download the article list but not individual articles. It appears that either the index file is inaccessible on the server or it is failing to be downloaded to my computer.
Is the fault on my computer or on the server? And what can be done about it?

I don't think that it's either your computer's or the server's fault. This happens sometimes when the support article has been updated, deleted, or re-issued and the older (referenced) version is no longer available. I just tried it and it worked with the article I asked for, but...
I've had this happen a couple of times; when that happens, I'd suggest going to the actual Apple support site and do a search there.
Edit: The "kb" refers to k nowledge b ase articles.

  • HELP: published to .mac but cant find them

how do I find my website after I published to .mac? I log on to my .mac and it only shows web pages I previously created with iWeb and it doesn't show the one I created with Aperture.

I think there's a 'preview in browser' button in aperture (which becomes available immediately after you complete the upload). This should give you the URL.
In .mac, you need to manually create a new site - and point to the location of your new aperture web gallery. It's a little clunky, and I find I need to 'relearn' the process everytime I create a web gallery for .mac in Aperture (which is rare).
If you lose track of where things are, don't forget you can browse your .mac file system in finder by clicking on iDisk.

  • Help with publishing without .mac

Here is my problem, I'm taking over a site for our local snowmobile club and I was asked to overhaul and start maintaining the site by the end of this month. Dec 21 is the day I'm suppose to publish the site and the club I'm working for wants to keep their website on local hosting company.
I know it's easy to publish on .mac but I have to keep with their rules so how do I publish on a none dot mac account?
    Thanks.

Mike ~ Welcome to the discussions. .Mac was re-branded as MobileMe back in July. This article explains how to publish to a non-MobileMe host:
