Contribute and intranets

Hi,
Contribute exhibits some very stupid "clever behaviour" when
used on a typical corporate network.
Specifically, it is not possible to link to documents stored
on a shared network drive without Contribute uploading the file to
the intranet server.
This means that:
1. There needs to be as much storage on the intranet server
as there is storage for documents on the network drive (in this
case terabytes!)
2. Any changes made to documents on the network drive are not
reflected in the documents on the intranet.
This makes it impossible to sensibly deploy Contribute for
maintaining a typical corporate intranet where large volumes of
documents on shared drives are managed by many different users.
I suggest that a simple checkbox is provided to the Insert
Link dialog that prevents Contribute from being too clever, and
simply inserts the URL specified.
Or is there another solution available that avoids either
users or site editors from having to go through gymnastics to
simply link to a local file?
Thanks,
Damian

I have just come up against the same thing. We only have a
small intranet written by me in Dreamweaver 2004 mx then 8 and I
have wanted to get the users more involved in editing and sharing
ther work for a while. We are only a small Housing Association and
I thought that Contribute sounded perfect.
However, what a fiasco, why does it give you the option to
link to a file on your computer when it doesn't mean that. What it
means is that it will take a copy of the one on your computer (In
our case a network drive e.g. I:\documents\example.xls) copy it to
a folder that it doesn't tell you about (even rename the file) and
then make you think that all is well and when people click on the
link on the intranet they think they are looking at the file on the
network share when infact they are looking at a copy sitting on
your intranet.
Dreamweaver doesn't do this you can link them relative to
document or root so why on earth have they done it this way in
Contribute without the ability to over ride the so called feature.
I was excited when I read your post because I thought Ah Ha
it is a common problem and therefore if I read further all will be
revealed but it seems like Adobe are ignoring you.
My sympathies, I hope someone that knows this software reads
this because I'm sure someone worth their salt could provide an
answer quite easily. It can't be as badly written as it looks at
first sight.
Good Luck to us both. Lets hope a Guru is watching out there.
PS I think Tom was a bit harsh, your solution did sound quite
sound if it weren't for this FEATURE. Afterall not everyone wants
to make everything dynamic these days.

  • EFP and Intranet Portal - Best Practices for architecture

    Hi All,
We are planning to create a portal for our partners  (b2b scenario). This portal will provide anonymous  and user specific access. We also have a intranet portal with ESS and MSS.  I have some doubts around implementing EFP and Intranet portal.
       1) What is the best practice solution architecture around portal instances? Is it suggested to implement both intranet and internal portals on same portal instance? Do you implement them as 2 seperate instances (and 2 seperate boxes) one for intranet and another for internet?
       2) There are couple of functions shared between inranet and internet portals. Has any one attempted   a FPN connection between a internet portal and intranet portal?
       3)  What is the best practices around an external portal connecting to ECC directly?
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Hi Pallayya,
We are implementing a similar kind of thing for our client.I can explain that so you find some glimpse out of it.
    We have decided twp ways.
    1) We are having one instance of the portal that will be accessed both in Intranet & Internet. We are using two different URL for intranet & internet. We have a reverse proxy in the picture also, coz it will increase the security of the portal in the Internet. The reverse proxy will be available in the DMZ Zone.We have integrated ECC & BW with the portal and some web dynpro application(For intranet only).
Now the user comes from the Internet will hit the reverse proxy first->then it will go to EP Server->in EP it will be decided which kind of request client is asking ->
If it is a ECC request->Portal Server sends back the request to Reverse Proxy->RP will send it to web dispatcher->Then it will go to ECC.
If it is a BW request ->Portal server sends the request to BW Server.
    2) There will be two different URLS for the portal in Intranet & Internet
For that we used two reverse proxy

  • Contribute and Dreamweaver

I was wondering if it is ok to work back and forth between
Dreamweaver and Contribute, also, I was wondering if I need to
change my ftp connection do I just need to make a new connection
key in contribute and also make a new connection to the server in
dreamweaver? I'm making a site for a client and they haven't
decided if they are going to host it or if we are going to host it.
If they decide to host it I'm going to have to change my whole
connection and I'm just wondering if I'm going to be able to do
    this.

I would use containers outside the editable region to help
control styles. For example, if you wanted a styled list, but
wanted Contribute to work well with it, you could do something like
the following. Tables are also useful to use because they are
easier to edit in Contribute. You could also redefine p tags, h1-5
tags, li tags, etc. per div container.
    #my-container{
/* any styles this may need */
    #my-container ul{
/* any styles for the ul tag */
    #my-container ul li{
/* any styles for the li tag */

  • Can we run Internet and intranet application on same node?

    Hi,
Could we run Internet and Intranet applications on same node?
    Regards,

    Hi,
You can run both sites on the same server. You should just set the site security on the intranet site to only allow access from internal IP addresses. But for security reason, it's not adviceable to do that.

I have developed a site for a client in Dreamweaver using css

  • Contribute and Project Seven Plugins

I have a client that has Contribute and wants to do more
updating of their website and ultimately manage the majority of
content updating themselves. I suggested Contribute and they have
that. However, the website uses several PVII plugins, specifically
Tab Bar Magic, Tab Panel Magic and Accordion Panel Magic.
Since I don't use Contribute at all and have the full
    DWCS3/Adobe CS3 Suite I am wondering:
    1. Should I recreate a more "Contribute friendly" template
and website design that will be easier for the client to update
using Contribute? If so what are the issues surrounding this if I
am using PVII plugins? Should I scrap using PVII plugins
    altogether?
    2. Should the client invest in the full DWCS3 and purchase
PVII plugins so they can have ultimate control of adding new pages
based on the template design and so forth without any plugin
    issues?
    Here is the website:
    http://ilheadstart.org

Thanks for the reply. I am going to download the Contribute
CS3 and play with it. However, I believe my client has Contribute 3
and not the CS3 version. Will that matter any?
The template for the website already has a "main body"
editable region which is where new content can be added on a blank
    page from scratch.
Okay so it's confirmed my client does not need to purchase
any P7 plugins. I was not clear how that worked with Contribute. I
am assuming the plugin effects just appear as they would but the
client can't edit any of that? Maybe once I have the trial program
I can see this for myself and answer it that way.
Also, you say the P7 plugins do not mess up edit mode. Again,
maybe I can best understand this when I toy around in the
    application.
My only other question is since the client has Contribute 3
and I will be using a trial of Contribute CS3, will there be a
significant new set of features I will see that they will not?
Lastly, looks like CS4 is coming or at least it's announced. Should
I recommend my client upgrade to Contribute CS3 or wait until
Contribute CS4 comes out? Please advise, thanks!

  • WordPress, Contribute and XMLRPC

Hey All. I am having some issue with Contribute connection to
    WordPress on my server.
Error: Please make sure you have sufficent permissions...
Well i am the Admin, so i have gave XMLRPC CHMOD 777 to be on
the safe side, along with the root folder, buts its not worked.
    The url to it is
    http://www.planecrazy.eu/demo/wordpress/xmlrpc.php
I am using this as the access point to my blog,
the page says Forbidden, i have visited the main wordpress
website and used this extension on some one elses blog and you get
    a very different response...
XML-RPC server accepts POST requests only.
Bingo, the problem must be that file. But i have no idea how
to sort it out, in the contribute user name i am entering the Blog
user name and password, is this correct or should it be my sevre
    username and password?
I have tryed it with a manual and cpanel install of
wordpress, does exactly the same to drupal too, any help would be
    very appreciated, thanks all

    I am having a similar problem. I can't connect to a blog
because of insufficient permissions. But I've changed the
permissions everywhere I can think to , and keep getting the same
    result...
"Error: Please make sure you have sufficent permissions..."
Is this a common problem, something new? I've connected to a
number of blogs with contribute, and this is the first time I've
    seen this.
    Any suggestions?

  • IBCM internet and intranet management on the same server

Could anyone help me see what I am missing? We are trying to test setting up IBCM using the same management point as the intranet clients. We have already successfully implemented PKI for intranet clients because we were bringing in a MacBook Air. We have
an external URL coming through reverse proxy and forwarded to our internal server. I can navigate to
https://sccmext.domain.com/sms_mp/.sms_aut?MPlist and get 403 access denied I also get that when I am on prem and navigate to the local server
The CcmMessging.log has errors regarding post to
    https://sccmext.domain.com/ccm_system/request failed with 0x87d00231
I think this has something to do with certificates... I have a SCCM Web certificate for the internal server hostname and another certificate for the external name coming through the reverse proxy.
I have the internet FQDN on the site system properties, MP and DP are set to allow internet and intranet based clients...

Here are some entries before and after that entry above:

These are from the IIS log file .195 is the SCCM site server, 81 and 82 are the reverse proxy servers. Sorry if I am not answering questions accurately, this is getting into parts of SCCM I am not familiar with at all.

  • Internet and Intranet Scenario

    Hi ,
We are in process of enable our portal infrastructure to internet facing audience. We are using the same infrastructre and middle tiers for both internet and intranet. However, we have different web caches. So far what we have done the following steps:
    ===========================================================
    Steps done till now...
    1) Intranet portal
    http://gcdsinggn3por24.abc.com:7777/pls/portal (this works fine)
    2) Virtual host configuration for the above protal on port 80
    http://abc.xyz.com/pls/portal
    3) Both the abouve URL's working but, Login pointing to intranet

    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14099_19/portal.1012/b14037/cg_advnc.htm#i1051038
What we need to achieve is when we click on login link from internet server, it should be redirected to login page but the base host URL should remain same as "http://abc.xyz.com/".

  • Contribute and Drive Shares intranet problem

So we use contribute for our company's external sites and it
    works well.
However, I would also like to use it on our intranet. Heres
    the rub..
when I test it, it works fine. Why? Because I have acceess to
web root on our intranet dev/staging server. So my copy of
Contribute can put files to it and test it, and work.
However, IT does NOT want to give anyone else access to web
root on the dev server. Instead, they give them a drive share that
    looks at a specific folder.
And Contribute does NOT like that at all.
Obviously this is a problem compounded by the fact that I
have less than a novice understanding of drive shares and windows
    networking.
Someone else MUST have encountered this problem.

We use it for our intranet. Users have the following
    permissions:
Read only to the web root and Templates folder (necessary for
setting up the site and using templates).
Read/Modify to _mm and MMWip at the root level (necessary for
    Contribute temp files).
Read/Modify to their individual folder under the web root.
    This works for us.

  • Creating Extranet and Intranet in a single web application?

I'm confused ... again! Maybe you can help.
Microsoft's best practices for setting up SharePoint 2013 is to utilize a single web application in a single web application pool.
    My Network Topology
I am setting up my intranet AND extranet in a back-to-back perimeter network topology using Claims and Kerberos Constrained Delegation. I will have a dedicated AD instance on the DMZ which my clients will be added to. My corporate users will access the site
via ADFS using their credentials on our internal network. There will be only a One Way Trust wherein the extranet AD will trust the corporate AD. We will be using Host named site collections and giving clients their own URL. They will basically be accessing
a single list and perhaps a page that gives them some reports about tasks across a few sub-sites and the a status of a single workflow on the root site of their site collection.
    My SharePoint Topology
I would like to follow MS' Best Practice as stated above but I'm not clear on a few things.
    1. Does it matter whether my extranet or intranet is on the Default Zone? I'm thinking that the intranet should be on the default since that is where Search crawls and that's the only place where search will be used in any way.
Is it possible to have two sets of permissions on a single web application, one for internal and one for external, without extending the default zone to create the extranet and thereby creating a new IIS website (webapp) in the process?
    Thank you!
    Love them all...regardless. - Buddha

  • Issue with Internet facing site and Intranet sites

    Hello All,
I have migrated the SP2013 environment using database attach method for our intranet site. We also working on the
SP2013 Internet facing site using the same content database as Internet site.
When I extended the web application for Internet facing site, zone to
Internet and these are the URLs: The Intranet website URL is
    https://intranet.contoso.com/SitePages/home.aspx (Root Site) and
SP2013 Internet facing site http://contoso.com (not a root site and publishing site template)
However, I found on the http://contoso.com users can still access the
http://contoso.com/SitePages/home with same content as Intranet.
After done some Google search, bloggers mentioned to have move  https://intranet.contoso.com/SitePages/home.aspx to another site collection so that Internet facing site can exist root site.
Can 2 we have to two root sites in same web application? I need the content database to be same so that managers can check
Internet facing site and after signing into SP2013, redirects to
    Internet site.
Which is the best option to achieve this with same content database.
    Please advice.

    Business Requirement:
Content Managers want to control internal Internet site (https://intranet.contoso.com) (with default zone, port 443, Root site) and also want to have SP2013 Internet site (with Internet zone
http://www.contoso.com (not a root site and publishing site template)), Anonymous access at Web Application level. I configured the site architecture
to have intranet zone as default zone and extended Web Application for Internet facing site with Anonymous site. This the current site architecture
Because content managers do not want to duplicate public site (Internet facing site) with will be shared with some lists that are stored in intranet site.
For e.g. a sub site named “News and Events” will be shared with Public site as well as Internet users. Therefore, if a manger wants to update a list in the public site, it should reflect in intranet site as well. Thus, managers
don’t want to have separate database but same content database.
    Problem:
I have extended web application to have different Internet zone, the site URL looks this: http://www.contoso.com/sites/public with publishing template and Anonymous access. Managers want to have public site URL to be just
http://www.contoso.com and not   http://www.contoso.com/SitePages/Home.aspx. As I am using path based site collection for extending site collection, I am
    getting this URL http://www.contoso.com/SitePages/Home.aspx
We also tried host named site collection, but it does not provide anonymous access and keep on asking for user credentials.
Q1: We want to have Intranet and Public site with same content database as per business requirements, Shall I following link       http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/81172/moving-content-db-for-a-site-collection-to-another-db-server?
Q2: Because I am constrained that I don’t want to have separate web application, (I know, its not regular requirement), how could achieve this requirements?
Q3: Do have to completely re-design web site architecture, with
www.contoso.com as main web application, then copy Intranet site collection and move this to
    www.contoso.com/intranet using
    Move-SPSite command
Any kind of pointer and help will be highly appreciated as I am struggling for 2 weeks to solve this.

Not that I know of, but you definitely need a relational database for this, and FileMaker is the best there is.
It might be worth asking them if they already have a template for your purpose.
Of course, they also make a simpler and cheaper version called Bento:
