Contribute connection key
What and where is the Contribute connection key?

Use a connection key
Connection keys are files created by site Administrators that sets up the site connection automatically. Connection keys have the extension STC. For example, connection1.stc. A connection key includes connection information for a site, as well as the group which a user is assigned for that connection.
Please see the above document for more information.

Why do my Contribute connection keys not work?
I am using CS4 The connection keys that I create as a Contribute administrator do not work. Now sure why that is, because my own connection as administrator DOES work.
When I generate the connection key, I check "include the FTP username and password, and I have checked "Use passive FTP to connect to the server" in the Advanced Connection settings. In the "Would you like to send your current settings, I check "Yes", and I check" Include my FTP username and password. When the recipient of the connection key clicks on it, and enters his password, we get the following error message:
"Your username or password is incorrect. Please check your connection information."
I have tried this a number of times. I have even deleted the _mm folder on the server and started all over again.
Thank you for any assistance you can provide. What tells you that?

Connection key compatibility between Contribute 3 and 4
Does anyone know whether Contribute connection keys are
compatible between versions 3 and 4?
Can I create a connection key in Contribute 3 for a version 4
client or vice versa?
At the moment, I have several customers who may be on
different versions of Contribute and want me to handle the
connection key side of things, so I need to ensure that the keys I
create will work in either version. For windows users can you create a connection key in Windows machine and send the same.

I can connect to my website if I manually set up the
connection in Contribute. When I send a connection key we get an
error message that the username and password cannot be verified. I
have tried sending the key with the username and password included
in the key, also set it up so users have to enter the username and
password themselves. Nothing works.
We set up a separate ftp account on our website that only
allows access to a specific folder.
We recently moved our website to a new hosting company
Network Solutions. We did not have any problems with Contribute
connection keys on our previous host. Any possible solutions would
be appreciated.

Sending Publisher Connection Key gives Admin Rights in Contribute CS4
I manage numerous remote sites around the country remotely using Contribute CS4. Each site uses a common template with different header images and left navigation.
All of these sites function beautifully except one. On this particular site, sending a publisher connection key allows the user to connect to and edit pages on the site. However, the connection shows my (admin) email address, gives the user admin rights, and then puts a lock (.lck) file on almost all of the files, including the .CSS file. It also gives odd messages about workflow errors.
From my end on the Contribute Administer Websites panel, the user shows up as publisher, but on their end, they have admin rights and my email address displays on their connection
I tried deleting all of the files in the _mm and _notes folders and starting over, but this did not fix the problems.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.Hi,
Did you try re-creating Publisher keys for them, and sending it to your client? Also, with the existing key which your client has, what is the Role information for that connection key? This can be checked in the My Connections dialog.
Where is your e-mail address being shown? If it is in the My Connections dialog along with the connection name, then that is because the administrator's e-mail address is shown there.
Hope this helps. -
Connection key doesn't recognize Contribute Installation
I generated a connection key via Contribute, to try and test
a problem that a user is having. When I tried to use the key, I got
an error message saying "Please install Adobe Contribute CS3 using
setup.exe". Well, obviously it's already installed. Any
ideas?I've got the same problem.

Contribute 3: Problem with Connection Key
Hi,
I'm having a problem with connecting Contribute 3 to our web
site.
I have Contribute running on two PC's, one running XP Pro
Service Pack 1 and the other Service Pack 2, the one with SP 1 is
at home and connects fine. I used this one to generate a connection
key for my office computer (the one with SP2). Everything should be
fine, but it isn't.
The office PC refused to connect to the site: After double
clicking on the connection key and selecting Open, it presents a
dialog box with the name: Import Connection Key, and I enter a new
username, email and the password for the connection key.
When I click OK, it presents the following message: "Unknown
host. Contribute could not find the server "ftp.myhost.com". Please
check your connection information or contact your administrator."
When I click OK on this dialog box, it presents the following
dialog box: "Contribute could not verify your connection key. A
network connection to the server could not be established. Please
contact your administrator for assistance." Damn,I'm the
adminstrator and I have run out of ideas!
I can connect to the site with WS_FTP without any problems,
but I cannot do so with Contribute, neither with the connection key
containing all the FTP details, nor bypassing the connection key
and simply manually entering the FTP details.

The contribute connection I setup for my client doesn't work for him, but it does for me
I setup a Contribute connection for a client (I have Mac OS X 10.4.11). I tested the connection in another computer (a mac on the same network) and it works just fine. However when my client launches the connection in his computer (a pc) it get this error:
"Contribute could not verify your connection key. A network connection to the server could not be establiched. Please contact your administrator for assistance".
I'm the administrator, but it's hard for me to troobleshoot him, becuase the connection works fine for me. He also got a second error message:
"Contribute could not connect because the server is down or not accepting connections. Please contact your administrator."
I told my client to wait and try again later (I have had to do that in the past when setting my own connections, sometimes it works right away, sometimes the server doesn't respond on the spot). However I would like to know if any body else have had these issues and if the problem could be a network connection, and internet connection a mac-pc incompatibility, or.. what else????
I appreciate any advice.
Thanks,
AdrianaHi,
So this is a "real" AIM Name (Not an @mac.com or MobileMe valid AIM Name) ?
You can login on an older Mac And presumably Here ?
If you Migrated a User to the new computer you may find you don't have permission to Write to the Keychain and that chaning the Passsowrd is not actually doing anything.
In Lion go to the Finder > GO Menu and hold th ALT key so you can select Library
In the Library open Keychains
Highlight the Login.keychain.
Do a Get Info (CMD (⌘) + i keys together).
At the bottom of the panel that shows should be Permissions and Ownership
Your Account's shortname should be in the list.
You should have Read and Write Permissions (you may need to click the Padlock)
With the padlock Unlocked also click the cogwheel type icon and see if you are listed as "Make (Shortname) the Owner" (it should be greyed out if you already Own the file).
In Applications/Utilities and opening Keychain Access should also list as many entries for the AIM name as you have changed the password for (it creates a new entry rather than changing it)
Check that one of these does hold the right Password. (Delete the others if required)
I know that iCloud created @me.com names will only work in ichat 6 and the Messages Beta due to the way iChat 6 and above login to me.com and AIM so that AIM gets permission to read the password.
I have not heard of this issue the other way round.

Contribute Connection Disabled. Help Please!
When I try to connect to one of my sites in Contribute 2 or
Contribute 3, I get the following error.
CONTRIBUTE HAS DISABLED YOUR CONNECTION TO THIS WEBSITE
BECAUSE AN UNKNOWN ERROR OCCURRED. FOR MORE INFORMATION CONTACT
THIS WEBSITE'S ADMINISTRATOR.
Well...the problem is...I am the administrator and I have no
clue what is going on. Other sites that I have in Contribute are

Hi,
We are not able to reproduce the issue using SFTP connection
against
Windows 2003 Server with SSL enabled and SFTP running on it.
The SFTP server we have used is WinSSHD. Can you please let
us know what
SFTP server you have used? And also please let us know your

Sending a connection key from a Mac to a PC
It is very easy to send a connection key, but when I send one to PC from a MAC, I get this error "This connection key is only compatible with the Macintosh version of Contribute.".
Does anyone have suggestions on why this happening? The network path is the location of the website in your organization’s local network. The network path includes the name of the server on which the website is stored and the directory path of the website’s files on that server.
For example, your network path might be \\mycomputer\wwwroot\ (Windows) or afp://server:volume: (Mac OS).
Note: If you are a Mac user, to create a LAN connection, make sure to mount the network volume of the server you are creating a connection to on your computer desktop before you create your connection. In the Finder, select Go > Connect to Server to mount the network to which you want to connect.
Hope this answers. -
Changes to Contribute Connections - a howto?
Hello all...
have one client who we host for that uses Contribute - and
we're about to change servers for them, but I've no idea (and they
don't either) as to "what" to do to allow them to connect to the
new server. They do have a pretty simple connection key, so what
I'd like is a how-to on how to change that for the new server.
Perhaps it's as simple as changing the IP or some such item...but
as we dont' own same I've no idea on how to accomplish this. Is
there someone here who can provide a short quick stepbystep guide
to same?
JimI have exactly the same problem. It seems like I can't edit
the connection
key and that I have to create the Publisher settigns all over
again.
Furthermore, after doing that (I administer the site from DW
2004), the new
role settings won't stick. They are gone the moment I close
the dialog.
What I would like to do if possible would be to:
1) Just change the connection settings to the new server in
the old
connection key.
If that's not possible, I would like to:
2) Import the old Publisher role settings. It seems however
like they are
stored on the old server to which I no longer have access,
and the domain is
moved of course, so the http address and the ftp address
don't match any
longer.

Connection key compatibility problem between Mac and Windows
I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem and came up with a work-around?
We are rolling out Contribute CS5 to some employees.
The designers (I'm one of them) are all on Macs. Everyone else is on Windows XP.
We are connecting to our sites via local/network. IT didn't want to set up FTP (I won't go into why right now).
So, here is where the problem is... We set up the site and do the first connection on our Macs. Then when we send out a site key, to a Windows user, the key is no good. This is because Macs handle paths to network shares differently than Windows does.
I thought the solution would be to customize the key with the Windows share path before sending it to the Windows users. However, Contribute wants to verify the path before letting me continute to make a customized key. And that is where I'm stuck. Is there a solution to this - besides switching to FTP?
Thanks,
WardFor windows users can you create a connection key in Windows machine and send the same.

Hi, I have Contribute CS3/Dreamweaver CS3. When I create a
connection key, then send it to a user (or try to use it myself) I
get the message "Your FTP username or password is incorrect." In
testing: I create a key in DW/CS3, place it on my Mac deskcop, then
open Contribute CS3, double-click the key, I get the message. If I
create a new connection in Contribute CS3 as admin, I can get in to
edit site. I create a connection key, place it on my Mac desktop,
remove the connection in Contribute CS3, then double-click the new
key, I get the same message. Same problem for clients. All sites,
all clients. I can walk a client through manually adding the
connection and it works just fine. Anyone with any ideas why the
keys don't work???Thanks for sharing.
