Contribute CS3 CPS client install?

I've used Contribute 3 in the past, using ftp and sending
keys to folks who need them. I also had to install Contribute 3 on
their client machine. I'm researching Contribute CS3 CPS and have
some questions for which I could not find specific answers to in my
research:
1. would I still need to install Contribute CS3 on a client's
machine?
2. using ldap, I would no longer have resend keys when my
password expires, correct (I am the admin)? so, would the client be
responsible for updating their password if and when it expires?
So far these all the questions at this stage. Thank you for
any assistance.

If you do not plan to administer a site with only Contribute
CS3, go to Administer site> Compatibility> set to Transition.
This will allow you to use other versions of Contribute. This
error message can be fixed by doing the following (back up your
.csi file for the site prior to changing this setting).
1. Navigate to the folder \_mm\ on your server and open the
file named - cthub*.csi
(example: cthub6f52d6a5152350b4.csi) in NOTEPAD or any text
editor...
2. Change the second line contents in the XML from a value of
2 to 1 for read_vers_minor
Then save the file and relaunch Contribute CS3 but make sure
you have set the mode to Transition.

  • Contribute CS3 CPS server and clients

Let's say CS3 and publishing services (one in the same)
reside in server A and client's web site resides in Server B, but
they also have Contribute on thier client machine. Could I set up
the CPS in server A (via ldap) and set permissions for the client
even though their web site is in server B? If I'm not clear, let me
know and I'll try to explain with more real examples. Thank
    you.

I guess I didn't see anything from Macromedia that tells me
that CPS works with the new version. I'm not looking for new
features. I just want to make sure there aren't any
    incompatibilities, outstanding bugs.

  • Installing Contribute CS3 on Win 7/64 home edition

On going through the long slow process of installing software on Win7 I ran into a snag with Contribute CS3.  I have the downloaded version burnt to a CD which I have never had a problem installing from on XP. With Win7, after agreeing to the terms of licence, I got a message to insert the CD.  Needless to say it was already inserted. I took it out and then put it back in, no joy.  I then attemped to install from the folder where the original download had been stored.  Same problem.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, but! I don't get as far as entering the code, see attachment of screen shot. The copy I have is a downloaded "try and buy" which I have never had a problem installing from before. I also tried installing in XP Mode (I've upgraded to the Pro edition) but got the same error message.

  • Need help installing Contribute CS3

I'm stuck on reinstalling my Contribute CS3. I've clicked on Local/Network on the question " How do you connect to your web server?" in the connection wizard part of the installation process and have no idea how to answer the next question they ask which is "What is the network path to your web site?" Can anyone help me on this

I unfortunately can't talk you through the process step by step.. I don't have the same version you're using and cannot reinstall english CS3, nor do I know where exactly in the whole process you're at now. I suppose the install of Contribute CS3 finished and you're now faced with having to create a new connection.
In order to do so, you prolly have to chose Edit > My Connections (exact names might be a bit off, I am using a German version) from Contributes main menu, then click "New.."
Where you went the wrong way the last time was by selecting "I am connecting to my website via... Local/Network". Choose "FTP" instead.
You'll need your FTP login data, if you didn't write that down, you need to ask your hosting company to send it to you.
You're looking for the following pieces of information:
FTP host name - usually looks kinda like this: ftp.mysite.com
    FTP user name
    FTP password
perhaps ftp folder - thats the folder where your "start page" is located, most times this can be left blank however.
If your site was protected with an Administrator password, you'll need that as well. Chances are your hosting company doesn't know it - it was set by whomever created the homepage and first enabled it for use with Contribute.
Adobe Support might be able to talk you through the setup process on the phone, but in order for them to do so, you'll need to have the above info at hand before you call them.
Is it possible that somebody setup your homepage for you and was sending you a Contribute connection keyfile? That would explain why you never had to go through these steps before. If that's the case, it might be easier to ask that person for another copy of the connection key file..

  • Client can't edit site with Contribute CS3

I put a site online last week (www.dunelakeslodge.co.nz) and
    supplied my
client with Contribute CS3 to update it, supplying her a
    connection key.
She is connecting OK, but when she tries to edit a page she
    gets a
message saying she "can't edit this page because Dave Addison
    (that's
me) is already editing it. Please contact blah, blah...".
I have connected to the site myself with Contribute 3, and
    got a similar
error: "you can't edit this site because you are already
    editing it on
    another computer"!!
It gave me the option to "unlock" the page, which I selected,
    and I was
then able to edit the page. However, my client still can't.
Anyone got a solution to this?
    thanks
    Dave

I'm sure someone here will be able to help, but just curious
    if you've tried
posting in the Contribute forum at all?

  • Contribute CS3 Client breaks the server XML

Well, I have found an interesting problem with the cthub XML
file that is stored in the "_mm" directory in the root folder of
your websites being administered by Contribute.
As you are no doubt aware, when at least one admin upgrades
to Contribute 4 or Contribute CS3 (aka 4.1) all the admins have to
since there are upgrades made to the XML files that control the
site. Well it appears that this upgrade makes the cthub file
    non-valid XML.
Take a look at this file and look for the tag "font_use_css"
inside the "group_list_item" child node of the "group_list" node.
In a copy of the cthub file that was upgraded you will find that
this standalone tag is missing the appropriate closing slash. If
you compare this against a copy of the cthub file from before the
upgrade, assuming you made a backup, you will find that the tag is
    properly closed.
Since this file is the master file with all of the role
information for the site, I wonder if this XML error is causing
unknown instability in the system somewhere.

I'm having the very same issue. Very frustrating. Support had me uninstall and reinstall. That did not wor
k, Then they had me uninstall and reinstall as a trial. That did not work. Very umimpressed with Adobe
    products and support.
Anyone have a solution to this issue. I'm at the end of my rope.

  • How do I browse directory contents in Contribute CS3?

    Hi everyone!
I have one of our users uploading photos to our website.  At the moment she uses an FTP connection via Adobe Contribute CS3 to our web server.  This has worked great in the past.  However, at the moment she's uploading pictures to a dynamic website [Wordpress] and not using Contribute to edit the pages directly [as this is obviously done with the Wordpress Administration web panel].  The method she has been using is, within Adobe Contribute CS3, File>Publish File from My Computer.  This is great, but the problem is that she can only upload one file at a time, and if she's already uploaded the file, she has no way of knowing she's uploaded it before, except for that Contribute appends a 001 at the end of the file name.
How can she access a folder structure within Contribute CS3, treating it like an FTP client?  I'm sure this must be doable.  Yes, I could install an FTP client, but she's very comfortable using Contribute CS3 and uses this application for other portions of the website which are static.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Hi,
To check if she's already uploaded the file, she can click the Choose button in Contribute. On clicking Choose button, Choose File dialog will be shown. In this dialog, she can browse to the appropriate folder in which she had published the images, and verify the contents.
For uploading multiple files through Publish File from my Computer, I do not think it is possible as of now. There can be a workaround though, insert all the images you want to a web page, and publish the web page to the website. Then, all the images will be published along with the web page. Then, you can delete that web page.
Note: The images in a web page, generally are placed in the 'images' directory of the website by Contribute. If you are placing the images in different folder, then, make sure that you change the publish folder for images to that folder.

  • I want MACROMEDIA Contribute CS3

I bought for my client a copy of Contribute CS3. He's
currently using Macromedia Contribute 3, one month demo. He likes
it, so I want to make it official. It's a small package for a small
nice programm (30MB in size). When I ordered Adobe Contribute CS3
the package was 300MB!!! What is happening ??
So I installed Adobe Contribute CS3 on his system, which took
a lot of time 45min. or so. But after the install I got Adobe
Bridge CS3 WHY?, Adobe Assets WHY?, Adobe Scripting WHY?, Adobe
version cue WHY? etc. etc. etc.
Why o why do I need a program like mDNSResponder.exe only
    needed for I-tunes.!!!!
    I DON'T need those ADOBE PAYLOADS. I only need what\ I bought
for and that is Adobe Contribute CS3. Please GIVE me a CLEAN
INSTALL. Where is the good old support of Macromedia.!!!! Even
UNINSTALL CS3 took half an hour.
There is NO option to only install Contribute CS3. It's ALL
    or NOTHING
    It's realy a BAD Adobe experience !!!!!!

  • Need to re-download Contribute CS3

I have Contribute CS3 installed on an old computer that is no longer connected to the internet. I still have one client using this software and I need to connect using Contribute to help her with the issue. When I look at my account it does not include the older software such as this. I need to download, install and register it so I can assist my client. I have the CS3 Contribute serial number.
I have also noticed that now that I am in the CC subscription I appear to be logged out of my other older Adobe products.

    Hi,
    Greetings from Adobe.
Please email your details to [email protected] to get the links to download Contribute CS3.

  • Contribute CS3 Requires Startup Password

I administer 30 or more websites. Have been working with
Contribute since version 2. Never required that I type in a
password to open up the program. Yesterday when I installed
Contribute CS3, and opened it up, it required a startup password. I
have no idea what it wants as I have never set a password. The
program is now unusable to me.
I sat on the phone for 6 1/2 hours yesterday with Adobe
support waiting for someone to come on to help with this issue. My
phone battery finally quit. Have also sent out a request for help
    on this issue. No response.
I am getting a bit desperate as people are depending on me...
does anyone have a solution to this?

Make sure it says "Enter Password, please enter your
Contribute startup password try the following" If this is not the
prompt you get, other prompts could be asking for CPS or your FTP
login, so make sure the prompt is what you are getting before going
any further into this registry fix. If you are not a local
administrator on your computer you may not be able to make this
    fix.
    1. From the Run command, type in regedit to bring up the
    Registry
    2. Drill into the HKEY_CURRENT_USER >SOFTWARE
    >Contribute 4.1> Security Preferences.
    3. Now select this folder and go to File> Export > and
name this file something like backupsecuritypref.reg
    4. Once the export is done, right click on the Security
Preferences, check Permissions, make sure your user name is part of
the security group. Highlight your user name and then verify that
you have Full Control to the folder.
    5. Now double click on the blue key Always Prompt for
StUpPWD, you'll see a value name Always Prompt for StUpPWD. Toggle
the Base set to Decimal from Hexadecimal, and change the value data
from 1 to 0 with the.
    6. Go to the next blue key, Require PWD, and do the same
thing. Toggle the Base set to Decimal from Hexadecimal, and change
the value data from 1 to 0.
    7. Try to open Contribute again, if it is not opening, try to
import the backup file backupsecuritypref.reg via the
    registry.

  • Contribute cs3 - transparent background!!!???

I have designed a website in dreamweaver 8 (part of my CS2
package?) including making some template pages for the client to
    populate with documents etc.
I have Contribute 3 (Macromedia - part of the package I have)
and, using this, all the editable regions show the correct
    background.
In dreamweaver I specifically gave the editable regions a
white background and a high 'z' layer number?
The div/editable region in question is normally so large that
it extends well below the 'wrapper' of the normal webpage and so I
have naturally set the overflow to 'auto'. It is where this div
extends below the visible web page and onto the page background
below that is the problem (read on...).
I have purchased and installed Contribute CS3 (it says
Version 4.1 on the 'about' screen) onto the clients computer.
When she creates a new page using this template - all is well
    - except that the background of the main div in question (where it
extends below the visible web page) appears to be transparent!?
The black page background shows through the div instead -
making it impossible to read the dark blue text (which shows
    correctly)?
We can change the colour of the text and the page background
temporarily (in contribute) but this is time consuming with over
400 documents to create via this template.
When the new page is published - the 'now scrolling' div
looks normal and works as it should - showing dark blue text on a
    perfectly scrolling white background...
Can anyone advise what I might be doing wrong or if this is a
compatibility problem or if there is a bug in the clients 4.1(?)
    version etc.?
    Mike
PS. on both my own computer and my laptop (new VAIO) i can
see the designated white background to the div perfectly and all is
    well.
..but I'm using Contribute 3 (macrmomedia?) not CS3?.

    Art,
    > I saved it and exported it as a quicktime movie,
    animation
    > compressor codec, millions of colors square pix.
In order to get that alpha channel into the MOV, your
    settings need to
be configured for millions+ (not just millions). Can you
    doublecheck on
    that aspect?
There's also the "Encode alpha channel" setting in the
    Import Video
wizard. That's what carries the alpha channel into the FLV.
    You might
already be doing these, but we have to start somewhere,
    right? :) We
should be able to figure this out.

  • CS3 InDesign & Illustrator Install Exit Code 7; Other CS3 Apps Install Fine

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse... (no offence to horse lovers out there - it's just an expression)
I'm having trouble performing an silent install of the CS3 suite from a network share on Windows 7.  I've read through a number of posts on here, one of which was a 3 page post on this issue where Mac & Win 7 users alike posted failures, successes and how they got there, and another about removing the OS check feature from the application.proxy.xml file (which didn't work for me; unless I did something wrong...?)  Unfortunately for me after trying much of what was suggested, I'm still facing a brick wall.
All these machines are Core 2 Duo's clocked at no less than 2.2GHz, have 4GB of RAM, have over 100GB of free disk space and are running fully updated/patched installations of Windows 7 32-bit (x86) with Office 2007 Enterprise.
When I try to install the suite silently it fails with 'Exit Code: 7', which according to the CS3_Deployment.pdf means "Unable to complete the silent workflow."  If I take out the "--mode=silent" switch, the GUI launches and installs fine.  I took a look at the compressed log file & searched for "Return value 3", "ERROR" and "FATAL" for clues, but its vague and nondescript.  I didn't copy/paste the entire log in this post for brevity's sake, but you can check it out here:

The underlined areas: What 'Policy' is this referring to: Setup's own internal policy (like the OS check) or something else?
Here's what I've done so far:
Went through the 'Run a silent installation of Adobe Creative Suite 3' document
Went through the 'Troubleshoot installation with install logs | CS3, CS4' document
Used the Adobe Support Advisor to go through the logs, but it always says that no problems are found.
Recreated the install & uninstall XML files, twice, via the "setup.exe --record=1" method for each application & the entire suiteNot that I think this is important, but I was never prompted to enter a serial number when creating the .XML files.
Renamed the XML files for each application (e.g.: Photoshop-install.xml; CS3Suite-install.xml; Flash-remove.xml etc.)
Copied the XML files to a common folder on a network share (e.g.: \\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\XMLs)
Created install batch files for each application, including the suite, that install via the following command"\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\Setup.exe" --mode=silent --deploymentFile="\\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\XMLs\Photoship-install.xml"
Tried the installs with & without the "--skipProcessCheck=1" switch but there's no change.
No applications are running during the installs.
Verified my application.xml.override file was in \\path\to\Adobe\Design Premium CS3\Adobe CS3\payloads\AdobeDesignSuitePremiumen_US_Volume
Verified I didn't have any strange characters in my application.xml.override fileI deleted and manually retyped all double quotes just to be sure.
I noticed that the "installSourcePath" property in the install.xml files created point to a local location rather than, what I would expect to be, the installation source folder where I copied the contents of the DVD to.  On a whim I changed it to point to the copied DVD files but that didn't seem to help either so I changed it back.

Aside from Acrobat Reader 9.4.0, Adobe Flash Player 10 (ActiveX & Plugin) and maybe Shockwave 11, these machines never previously had any other Adobe products installed.
For what its worth, uninstalling Acrobat Reader 9.4.0 doesn't seem to help either.  I didn't try removing Flash Player or Shockwave [yet].
Using the install XML files I created via "setup.exe --record=1", when I run installs for the individual applications silently [via batch files] one at a time, all applications install fine except for Illustrator and InDesign: Exit Code 7.
This may further help suggest my application.xml.override file is fine.
Even more interesting is that I get the same error on Windows XP and Windows 7 machines alike.  (See the image below taken from an XP machine; the same happens on Windows 7 machines so it doesn't appear this problem is OS specific.)
Other than removing Flash Player, Shockwave and ripping out our Anti-Virus solution (Sophos), which is going to be difficult, is there anything I've missed?
Anyone have suggestions on why Illustrator and InDesign don't install?

I spoke with Adobe Support today and was directed to this support article:
    CPSID_84332 - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/843/cpsid_84332.html
Although this article speaks to CS5 installations, even though I thought I made it clear that I was working with CS3, I decided to give it a shot anyway.
The first comment passively suggests troubleshooting [all] "install errors using Creative Suite 5 install logs", which links you to CPSID_84451 - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/844/cpsid_84451.html.  But again, its CS3 I'm having trouble with and I've already linked, what I believe to be, a more appropriate CS3 [and CS4] log troubleshooting document in my first post.
Step 1 requires restarting "your computer in a minimized state before running the installer." - This isn't at all optional nor ideal when we're talking about silent installations, especially when they can take place in the middle of the day - its highly distruptive, or deployments in general.  Plus, I'm not interested in developing a package that will perform the steps outlined and then undo everything.  Its important to note that this isn't a one-off problem: every machine that needs to have CS3 installed experiences this problem.  But for what its worth:
I did as instructed in the troubleshooting documentation but it didn't work.
No other applications fail to install, and all but these lone Adobe CS3 apps install fine; what gives?
Step 2 is to perform a repair installation of the Windows Installer.  (FYI: Windows 7 ships with 5.0, my version is 5.0.7600.16385, and for the record there doesn't seem to be a redistributable download available at this time.)  I can't use this as part of my silent installation package because it calls you to run `sfc /scannow` which is time consuming and, if something is found, often requires a reboot.  Fortunately for me, "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."
Step 3 is to preinstall Adobe Air and the AdobeHelp payloads:
AIR isn't part of the CS3 DVD, it has to be downloaded & installed silently (via -silent -eulaAccepted if you don't have the redistributable package); this was done but didn't help.
There isn't an 'AdobeHelp' payload, only 'AdobeHelpViewerAll', which will not allow a manual instalation so I can't do that.
In summary, these tips unfortunately did not solve the problem.

  • Copy/Paste images into Contribute CS3

We have been copying and pasting images from Word Documents
in Office 2003 into Contribute CS3 at my organization when
developing content. We have been able to copy/paste images from
Office 2003 and other programs like Paintshop Pro and SnagIt.
Since upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007 all image copying and
    pasting has stopped working.
Is there a known issue with this?
Does anyone else have Office 2007 installed and is able to
copy/paste images from a Word Document into a page in Contribute
    CS3?

It appears that the problem only occurs if you are copy and
pasting from something that hasn't been saved yet.
In Word I inserted an image from my hard drive and tried to
copy/paste it into Contribute and that failed. I then saved the
Word Document to my hard drive, re-opened it and was able to
    copy/paste fine.
Power Point, Snagit and Pain Shop Pro appear to have the
problem even if it's been saved first.
I was able to copy/paste an image from a Word Doc and
PowerPoint into MSPaint just fine. I was also able to copy/paste
between Office applications with out any problem. Snagit could
copy/paste into Office just fine and MSPaint.
This problem appears to be specific to Contribute CS3 but
    only from certain sources.

  • Adobe CS3 - Will Not Install

I just bought Adobe CS3 today but when I click on the install
file, it does nothing. I have searched the web for help, but the
one or two solutions I did manage to find seem far beyond me. I am
on Windows Vista. Anyone have any solutions? Any responses would be
    greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

<start sarcasm> Hey, consider yourself lucky! At least
you can SEE the installation file! </end sarcasm>
Seriously, I am now trying to install a licensed boxed
version of Contribute CS3 on a second computer, and the computer
can't even read the CD in the CD-ROM drive! The computer acts like
there is no CD in the drive at all. In Windows Explorer, I get the
dreaded "insert CD in the drive" message when I try to view the
    contents of the CD.
I only tried to manually install the program because the
AutoPlay didn't work. Other than finding another computer whose
CD-ROM drive could read the installation CD, I can find no
solution. And THAT'S not a solution, foks.
My idea was to download / install the trial version, then
activate it with the purchased serial number.
I shouldn't have to do that! This is so bogus... I have been
waiting for my download link for nearly an hour.
Adobe, what are you going to do about this installation
problem?? Can we get our money back?
